Very oil soaked bags with Empanadas de Pollo
    BriBri R.

UPDATE: called them to complain about what we received as it was mostly inedible . My fiancé actually called initially and was was talking to the woman who answered the phone who didn't seem to understand him. I had to get on the phone and speak to her in Spanish . Not sure how they deal with phone orders .... Anyways they said to take pictures of the greasy empanadas and drive back there and they'd give us half of the order . That's right HALF. And meanwhile we were pretty much given a bag of grease that you could more or less wring the grease out of. Disappointed . We tried actually blotting them again and thought we'd gotten most of the grease out . Upon looking at them in the morning the bag is once again saturated in grease. I initially had 3 stars but am reducing to 2 due to this. Very oil soaked bags with Empanadas de Pollo- I've gone to this location a few times . The girls working the register are super nice and the emapanadas are normally quite good. Baked goods are also pretty delicious . The empanadas are what I usually pick up there since I'd tried the food and found it just ok. The last couple of times however i'd noticed they were a bit greasy but the bag this time REALLY took the cake. I just opened the bag and pulled these out to find them drenched in oil. I don't know if I can continue eating there because someone's obviously not draining these after they are fried. The amount of grease soaking the bag is insane. When I initially started eating these a few months back I loved the fact they were light and crisp and that despite being fried there was no grease on the bag and my fingers after eating them. They must've changed cooks because this is a huge change: Horrible for your health and waist line. 3 stars because the girls are very nice and the baked items are good . If they could just get this oil situation sorted out I'd happily continue buying these empanadas but health is important so we'll see.

I love Punto Rojo. I usually frequent the one on Hillside Avenue in Jamaica, but was pleasantly surprised to find this location in the Glen Cove area. Like its other locations, this is a Columbian eatery that serves a plethora of Columbian culinary staples and has a full bakery to boot serving Columbian pastries galore. This location is in a strip mall so parking is pretty ample. The location isn't terribly large but can accommodate about 10 tables, clean and brightly lit so you can see all their baked goodies. The menu has all the items you could want from a Columbian restaurant - roast chicken, fried fish, fried breaded pork loin etc. All the food here is excellent and authentic and you know this based on the sheer amount of locals and natives that flock through this place. The night we went there were no less than 10 families that came to pick up either large catering orders or huge cakes (and it was just a regular day - not a holiday). Portions here are enormous and prices are very reasonable. Service was excellent and friendly. Definite thumbs up.

Stopped in for a quick lunch. Grabbed a few empanadas....chicken and beef. They had a ton of other flavors but wanted to try the basics. Girls at the counter were very nice, and the food was ready to go in the case. Solid fillings on these, beef had more flavor. The chicken had almost a chicken soup taste to it but was good. The pastry part had a nice crunch but soft on the inside. Pop a little hot sauce on and youre good to go! $2.50 each very good price wise.

Scrambled eggs, rice beans, sausage, plantain, arepa! $11.45 comfortably feeds two

My girlfriend and I decided to pop in to try it out for the breakfast. Both of us were pleasantly surprised. First thing we noticed was how clean the cafe was, the staff promptly greeted us and sat us down. Reading through the menu we were slightly overwhelmed with the amount of different dishes they have. We decided to go with #10 which came with sausage, scramble eggs, rice and beans, and a arepa. We also decided to get a chicken & beef corn empanada. The empanadas were 10/10 plenty of flavor not greasy or dry. Make sure to use their homemade hot sauces that adds a nice kick of flavor to them! And the breakfast wow talk about bang for your buck. The one dish was more than plenty for my girlfriend and I, the sausage was packed full of flavor. Everything was on point, fair to say both very happy about finding our new little breakfast spot, and excited to come back and try some more of the mains, and deserts they have on display.

Besides almost every table full at 1:15 lunch...including the back room and it is a large restaurant. We were seated without a wait. Took longer to navigate the huge menu. Hubby and I just wanted a light lunch. He ordered the chicken wings and I ordered the "fish" sandwich w/o cheese. Unfortunately, I was served the chicken sandwich not the requested fish sandwich. It still came with avacado, onions, tomato and lettuce. (No cheese as requested). Once I took a bite I realized I had the wrong sandwich. I was disappointed. Waiter apologized and offered to switch it up...I can see he felt bad and we were not quite sure where we both messed up...could have been me? Him? Not a big deal...I just kept it and enjoyed. Chicken was slighty dry (cheese would have fixed the dryness) but seasoned perfectly. It was a large sandwich with two layers of thin grilled chicken. I would split it next time. I like the way it was served...wrapped in a paper. I requested un-seasoned fries and my request was honored. It was all a generous portion. The restaurant is high energy, food around us all looked delicious and fresh, cocktails looked really good...I wanted to taste the cappuccino martini next to us...tempting to order one. Service was timely, friendly and efficient. Noise level a tad high however it was easy enough to carry on a conversation. Overall, I understand the reason this place was so busy...definately a solid fun place...wish it were on my neighborhood as I enjoy exploring different dishes. Thumbs up for sure.
