La Cabañita is a popular place, especially on weekends. We were fortunate to get seated right away during a lull in their incoming customers. But be prepared to wait up to 20 or more minutes when they're busy. I can tell whether the food is going to be authentic by looking at the rice, well theirs is pretty close to my mother's Mexican homemade rice. They have a great variety of dishes and specialty dishes available. The chicken mole dish was also pretty close to my mom's recipe. The corn tortillas were also homemade. The only reason their food doesn't get 5 stars is because the chicken breast mole dish was a little bit dry. As for service, I really wanted to give them 5 stars. I know the servers hustle and are busy. When we went it was close to the restaurants closing time so I think they were running low on energy. So be kind to your servers. They work hard for us to enjoy the experience of dining out. read more

We brought out of state friends to La Cabañita when they asked to have Mexican food while they were visiting. It was a Wednesday evening and I called to see if I needed a reservation for four, and they assured me I'd only need one if we were a large party, but they would put my name on the wait list so we'd be sure and get a table quickly. True to their word, we got a parking place directly in front of the restaurant and walked right in to have our choice of several seats. The menu is extensive and has something for everyone. The guys both chose carnitas. I had chicken enchiladas poblanas and our other friend is vegetarian and chose cheese enchiladas in a verde sauce. We also had Jamaicas and Modelos. Service was quick and attentive and the Jamaicas were delicious and refreshing on a warm evening. Chips and two salsas (red and green) arrived a minute after we sat down. We happily munched and visited while we waited to give our order and then for our food to come. It was not fast, but we did not want fast food. We came for a nice carefully prepared dinner in a restaurant with good service and ambiance. And that's what we received. The carnitas were perfectly cooked, crunchy from the frying on the outside but still tender and flavorful inside with a delicious dipping sauce. The rice is pretty but uninspired, but the black beans were delicious. The chicken enchiladas were stuffed with tender, moist white meat that shredded easily, and the poblano sauce was herbaceous and satisfying. The green chile enchiladas also received rave reviews. Portions were large and provided some fantastic leftovers. We have other beloved mom and pop Mexican restaurants in the area, but if you're willing to pay a little more for a full dining experience in a lovely restaurant, you can't go wrong at La Cabañita. read more

Still the best Mexican Restaurant that I know of. My family and I regularly come from the OC to eat here. Mainly because we have never found a place nearer to us that comes close in terms of quality. The service is always excellent, the food arrives quickly and it is always delicious! The chips and two salsas before the meal are second to none and unlike some restaurants, La Cabanita just keeps refilling your bowl. The restaurant itself is always clean and they have maintained the same comfortable ambience for many years. La Cabanita is the best! I can't say enough good things about it. We dine across various locations from upscale, Michelin-star restaurants to tiny, hole-in-the-wall spots that serve clean, organic, and flavorful food, and have NEVER come across a staff member, manager, and certainly not an owner, who is ill-mannered without a smile to have told a WELL-BEHAVED 3-YEAR OLD (WHO WAS LOOKING AT THE CHRISTMAS DECORATIONS OF SNOWFLAKE STENCILS ON THE WINDOW NEAR THE DOOR AND NEAR OUR TABLE WITH THEIR PARENTS, I REPEAT, WITH THEIR PARENTS, NONETHELESS) TO GO SIT DOWN since 'there are people carrying around hot plates". As I mentioned to you while confirming whether or not the establishment still serves children, we've dined there on occasion, witnessing young children who were (obnoxiously) talking loudly and walking around their tables without anyone from the restaurant, nor the parents saying anything to them to have a seat. The children that we saw were NOT of French or Italian/European descent as our granddaughter is, nor is our granddaughter's picture (or ours, thankfully) on your INDUSTRY WALL OF WORSHIP; something tells me if they were, you would not have dared to say anything)...but, to DISCRIMINATE in the manner in which you chose to is PLENTY OF REASON ENOUGH to NEVER support La Cabanita in word, nor dining. My family and I wanted to have a nice dinner out at one of our favorite spots. We arrived and put our name to be waitlisted. Our party of 5 was missing one person and the waiter told us after 15 minutes he would hold a table for us when our last member arrived. When she arrived they had told us it would take another twenty minutes to seat us, despite holding a table for us. I'm sorry to say I will not be returning to this restaurant nor recommending it. I haven't left a bad review here in years. If I don't like something, I don't write about it. With exceptions. If you don't take a dish seriously, don't put it on the menu. I had a bean and cheese burrito, salad style. It was disgusting. Poorly rolled, they just shoved their undressed cheap, tasteless carrot salad and chopped lettuce inside. No taste to the beans, if you don't like to cook pinto beans, just don't. cheese on top only. Gross. Corn soup, I didn't realize the strings of goo in the soup was actually cheese at first, I thought it was a film on top just mixed in. Another disgusting dish. Served cold, the soup was cold. Even the chips were stale, and cold and tough. Worst take out meal ever. I will never go there again. And it was the dinner hour. read more

We were looking for somewhere good to eat after enjoying Descanso Gardens, and this place was close as well as highly recommended. While the food was nothing fancy, it was delicious and felt like home-cooked comfort food. The tamales were amazing - I actually had leftovers, and they were just as good the next day. All the staff were super friendly and efficient. Parking, at least from what we found, was street parking only, so I imagine it could get difficult at higher peak times. A cute little place my friend wanted to try in the hilly part of Glendale right below downtown Montrose on Verdugo. It was pretty busy on a Saturday afternoon. Once we were seated - the server was right over. Throughout the entire visit, service was very attentive. We ordered the Chiles En Nogado and a combo with a chicken mole enchilada and a Chile Relleno. My friend was happy with her dish (Chiles En Nogado), her main reason for coming here. She raved o er the fresh handmade tortillas that came with it. My combo was good, not great but good. The mole was good and not too overly chocolate-y like some tend to be. A good balance of all of the rich flavors you'd expect. The Chile Relleno was just ok. Overall, not a bad experience but I wouldn't make another trip from West LA for it. Expect to park on the street I. Front or around the corner. The local parking enforcement will ticket you if your tires are not turned the right way on the hill and they write tickets seven days a week. read more

Everything about this place is so great! Service: amazing, the waiters really try and help if you need to modify plates, and they're overall just really kind. Loved the decor and setting, it's feels so homey and authentic; so many beautiful decorations . Food: Their tortilla chips feel so homemade and came out warm- they're so addicting. I was full by the time my Potato Flautas came! They were topped with guacamole, cotija cheese, lettuce, and salsa. The tortillas they're made with are so yummy, similar to the chips. I honestly do wish the inside of the flautas had some sort of salsa or filling other than potato to make it juicy but I'm sure that if you order meat flautas then it'll taste even better! Overall really yummy and carefully crafted. The rice and beans were also good. We got the flan de nuez and the sopapillas. So delicious!! The flan isn't super sweet which I enjoyed. I was in the area on a Tuesday and hadn't eaten all day. Decided I'd look for a good Taco Tuesday spot. These yelp reviews looked good and it was quite close to La Cabañita. I had my very small service dog with me so I went in. There were only two people in the restaurant area I went into so I went in and stood there for a bit before I was acknowledged by the host. He finally asked how he could help. I asked about a Taco Tuesday menu. He said "yes we have Tuesday specials". He was giving me a strange look. So I offered "my dog is a service animal" to which he replied "we don't allow pets". I explained that she is a service animal and not a pet. Then he mentioned something about "seeing eye dogs". I stated again that she is a service animal and performs a very specific function for me. "What is that? "She's a medical alert animal". He asked what that was in a pretty rude tone so I responded "she alerts me if I'm going to pass out before I pass out." Again he stated he didn't think she could be in there. He'd go get the manager. So I sat and waited for about 10 minutes-she never came out. He finally comes to me & says "the manager is busy but you 'can stay'" (without going back to even have a conversation with her. I was only staying so I could speak to her & hopefully to (kindly) educate them a little as to how the interaction SHOULD have gone. I'd already decided to leave as I'd really had a terrible day, I was hungry & now I was super irritated. She never came out, I wasted my time & limited mobility walking in & now had to leave without food. If you read this, please La Cabañita, please review the ADA guidelines on service animals. It's really not difficult, and that transaction should have gone so differently. Please educate your host Raul because he broke laws and was really unnecessarily rude to me when he didn't need to be. Maybe he had a bad day like I did but he really needs to be educated before someone with a service animal sues your restaurant!!! DO BETTER!!! read more

This La Canada/Glendale/Montrose Mexican restaurant was the ideal spot to meet for tres amigas coming from West Covina, Santa Clarita, and Northridge - it was central for all three. A good first visit. Here are a few tips and helpful info: 1. Parking - is the most challenging one for only street parking on either N. Verdugo or Ocean View (rear area of the restaurant) and both are busy streets 2.
