Came for a girls night dinner and tried out this place which was different and a new option to add for a dinner spot. Thankfully my friend noticed they were BYOB and brought wine as I completely missed that on their menu. It was pretty calm for a Sunday night and we were there for awhile. The bruschetta and bread that was brought out was honestly not my favorite we didn't really eat it. We started with their fried calamari with cherry peppers which was delicious and ended up bringing half of it home. We actually both ordered their PAGLIA e FIENO which was absolutely delicious. The cream sauce was wonderful and there was a decent portion of seafood in each dish. For dessert we ordered the creme brûlée and strawberries Zabaglione. The creme brûlée was good something you normally would get. The strawberries Zabaglione was perfect and refreshing with fresh strawberries with a nice thinner consistency custard on top. Our server Elise was wonderful as we were catching up with each other and very slow to order. The inside was very clean with a modern decoration. Parking is street parking which was easier enough to find on a Sunday evening. The only thing I was surprised for a byob Italian spot was some of their pricing was a bit steep for the place itself. read more

Lovely upscale local Italian restaurant. When you walk in, there is a bar area that was deserted as it is a BYOB establishment. The hostess stand was empty but was quickly greeted by one of the servers and seated for our reservation. We started with the seafood salad special which was fresh and delicious. Last night celebrated a birthday with a group of family and friends. It is quiet and comfortable and on a freezing night, the restaurant was at the perfect temp. The server was very attentive and spoke clearly. They opened our wine (BYOB) and served bruschetta as we looked over the menu. Food was brought out hot in a reasonable amount of time. The serving size was perfect ( I had 8 scallops over risotto). We were never rushed and actually were the last ones in the restaurant. We were there on Valentine's Day and the service was excruciatingly slow. I ordered a $50 dish with lobster, shrimp, and scallops which was "meh" at best. The lobster was overcooked, dry, and tasteless and the shrimp were tough and overly chewy. This dish was skimpy and way over-priced. My husband had a pork chop soaked in tomato sauce. My wife and I went to La Cambusa for dinner. Very few of the many tables were occupied, but we still had to wait for 40 minutes from the time we ordered dinner until it was presented to us. We were then overcharged on the bill, the price on the bill was higher than the price on the menu. The waitress said they changed the billing the day before, but did not update the menu. For the diners convenience on the invoice they had a list of three tip amounts with a square to the left to check which one you preferred. The amount included both the food and the tax. I believe the tip should be on the food and only on the tax ad my discretion. Of course, I put a custom tip on the bottom. As for the food, we ordered a veal dish and a pasta dish that included shrimp and crab. The veal dish was tasteless. The crab was meager and the shrimp smelled from and tasted like iodine. The food has been not as good lately. I had previously thought that this was hands down the best Italian restaurant in the area. It's pricey, but you don't mind when everything is top notch. The last few times the fried calamari was overcooked (previously so tender and the best around). The lobster ravioli was bland. The panna cotta was overset and lacked flavor. We were party of four on Saturday night. The place was not as busy as thought they will be. They have a small bar area as you walk in but it is a BYOB. We were seated in the back room and I liked that the tables have plenty of space between them and is not cramped up. Their menu is very small (see pictures), they also have daily specials that the waiter went over. The service was great and very attentive. Their portions are on a smaller side. The fried calamari was great, soft and fried perfectly. The filet of sole special was tasty but again very small portion. Go here for a nice BYOB Italian meal and ambiance.... but it was a little pricey in my honest opinion and that's why I probably won't rush to return. Ordered a bunch of apps for our group of 8 with several picky eaters and had them family style which included calamari, shrimp, prosciutto, burrata, and Cesar salad. Everything was pretty good and basic but I think for the price I'm not sure I'll be back as this was my third time. I do believe the acoustics have improved as they had installed those screens which absorb the noise. (This was a needed improvement as we were shhed and told to hush the first time I went with a group of girls that were laughing too loudly for a bday dinner.) My special was served "over pasta" but in reality it was a just small scoop of pasta on the side. An order of penne vodka without shrimp was $27 for my MIL and penne with butter for my son was $27. So that's my biggest beef...basically $60 for a $4 box of pasta. It was easy to get a reservation online and they did call to confirm. Our server was extra nice and jovial and probably a little too touchy feely with my father in law but it was in good spirit I'm sure he liked it....just a little inappropriate in my honest opinion if you want to know about the service. We've had dinner here on several occasions and hosted two family parties at La Cambusa. Anthony and his staff (especially Elise) are excellent. They were very accommodating for both of the parties I hosted there and go out of their way to help with set-up and decorating. Few places go out of their way like this to help with set-up. Elise even came in extra early for us to accommodate deliveries and decor drop offs. All our guests raved about the food and ambiance at the restaurant. Anthony is very fair with his customers and really provides an over-the-top menu with lots of great options for parties at a very reasonable price point. Food is high quality and plentiful. We live locally so were eager to try this place. Came here with another couple on a Friday evening. Restaurant is really cute! There's a back area so it's bigger than it seems. Service started off slow - maybe they were a little understaffed. Once we had a server, she was really sweet and helpful! Food was good - very fresh! Had calamari, garlic shrimp, lemon chicken, veal. They now are located in Wyckoff, New Jersey. At present time, they are only open for dinner starting at 4:00pm. They do not have a liquor license, but you can bring your own bottle. Parking is on street. The restaurant is chic inside, simple yet elegant. Everything is new inside since they just opened a few months ago. The owners are from Italy so the food is as authentic as it gets. The menu has a wonderful selection of Italian classics and specialty entrees as well as daily specials. One entree looks more delicious than the next, one dessert was more scrumptious than the best. La Cambusa is the restaurant you go to for consistent, exquisite Italian cuisine. La Cambusa is a must try Italian place in North Jersey. We recently went here for my fiance's birthday dinner. Upon entering, the restaurant seems small and intimate, however, due to our larger party we were sat in the back of the restaurant, which was another whole room. From the outside, it did not seem like there was that much space! I was pleasantly surprised to see just how large the restaurant was. The staff were all amazing. They were very attentive and answered all of the questions regarding the menu options that we had. As for the food itself, words cannot describe how good it truly is! There are so many unique options that you would not typically see at other Italian restaurants in the area. I highly recommend this place for anyone looking for a nice night out! First time at this location and was not disappointed. Made reservations for a Wednesday night 6:30 and nice dinner crowd for mid-week. This is a BYOB so come prepared as I did with a nice bottle of Frogs Leap Sauvignon Blanc. Seated immediately with Crostini Bruschetta, Bread and olive oil. For an appetizer it was a fresh Arugula salad with red onions and cherry tomatoes. For dinner it was Zuppa de Pesce, perfectly cooked Shrimp, Fish, clams, calamari, mussels and half of a rock lobster tail with a red sauce over a linguini. This also came with Scallops and for me I prefer them to be a little tighter and I attributed this to adding the rest of fish at the same time. When I cook this meal at home the scallops go in first and cook for about 2-3 min and then I add the rest of the fish. My partner likes the way it was served so it's a matter of choice. All considered the was delicious, spices were right on and still brought some home. The other meal was a Pollo al Limone chicken in a lemon wine sauce with artichokes, capers and sun dried tomatoes. Both dishes were a 4 on our rating scale. For dessert it was A Lemon Sorbet and Pistachio Sorbet, Cappuccino and double espresso and the establishment was kind enough to share some Sambuca. I can appreciate restaurants where folks are dressed for dinner and there was no riffraff in the building.
