I've been to Café Amici before for lunch (which was excellent), but this was my first time trying dinner--and it didn't disappoint! The prosciutto pizza was a standout--light, refreshing, and the crispy crust was perfect. Everyone at the table ordered a different pasta entree, and we were all impressed. The penne vodka sauce was creamy, flavorful, and rich without being too heavy. One small issue: we ordered a lot of appetizers, and no one came to clear the plates before our entrees arrived. With a smaller table, it got cramped and messy, and we had to ask someone to take the finished dishes. It felt a little sloppy and lack of service for an otherwise great experience. Especially since we had to ask someone other than our server for boxes and the check since she wasn't attentive. That said, the food definitely makes up for it. We stopped in on a Saturday afternoon, around 3pm. It's a nice looking restaurant, and was very lively. Two or three big tables, with small children, had the kitchen a little backed up. Appetizer of fried zucchini sticks took about 20 minutes to arrive, and I had to ask for silverware. The mains of a turkey burger and the Amici burger were very good. Packed with flavor and cooked to perfection. The chocolate cream pie was more of a chocolate mousse. It was a little pricey too. Almost $90.00 with tip. Enjoyed a very nice dinner here with my husband. It was our first time dining here and we enjoyed everything. The staff were very kind and our server was very attentive. We enjoyed the Italian wedding soup, rice ball, roasted chicken, and Tagliatelle. Our food came out in a promptly manner and tasted delicious. The entree portions were plentiful and we even had leftovers. I went there with five of my girlfriends for lunch. They offer a full brunch menu, breakfast menu on one side and a lunch menu on the other side. Lots of great choices like omelettes, French toast, eggs salads, burgers sandwiches. Something for everyone. We started off with a delicious pizza that we shared. Chef Arthur Toufayan came out to greet us. After that, we all ordered different things. My two friends shared a salad and burger, which they split for them. I had a kale salad with ahi tuna which was more than enough, actually couldn't even finish it. My other friends ordered another salad and were raving about the chicken and how delicious it was. Love Cafe Amici! We came in for a quick dinner because no one wanted to cook and the food is always great here. It was extremely quiet for a Friday perhaps being the weekend before Christmas. When we were brought bread to the table our initial server had changed twice already and she said if you want butter or anything to let her know. This was odd as if you're having bread they usually pair it with butter. We were able to be seated by the window and started off with the zucchini fritti appetizer that came with a lemon wedge. Delicious as always. We ended up taking most of it home to save room for our main meals. I ordered the Rigatoni Melanzane. The pasta was fresh and cooked to the right temperature. The mozzarella was good but it definitely could have had more and sell as more eggplant I found maybe 6 tiny pieces of eggplant in the entire dish. My friend ordered the penne vodka with a chicken cutlet and he was wowed. A huge delicious portion. My biggest complaint would be it seemed like every 5-10 minutes a different server was coming over and checking on it which was rather odd to me but maybe due to the slowness? Was the lunch worth $90 (plus tip) for 2 people? Short answer: No. To be fair, it was a really busy afternoon for them--There was a huge party (baby shower maybe?) that made the kitchen get backed up, it was so bad that our server had to apologize for our food taking so long. That's not their fault but, my goodness I was getting hungrier and hungrier! I drank my Coke as an appetizer and once the fried zucchini came we didn't have utensils. Still, I was hoping the meal would be well worth it but it was just okay. Not bad, just a bit pricey for what it was. Had a really nice meal with my sister and her family here last night. Now normally, the term "really nice meal" would mean a 4 or 5 star review. After all, the tuna and crispy rice, chicken parm, caesar salad and everything else were delicious. Service was super friendly and attentive and the place was nicely decorated and inviting. But there were two flaws. First of all a restaurant leaning heavily Italian, should serve bread. Okay, so maybe the infusion of a few mediterranean and Asian dishes on the menu countered that need but it should have been an option. I thought that was weird. I've never eaten Italian food without a loaf of bread or some rolls on the table. Bread does several basic but very important things in a restaurant. First of all it's a welcome. It also sets the tone for a meal as well as gives you something to munch on besides your fingernails while waiting for your appetizers. It can also play a subconscious role in choosing your menu items. Spectacular bread brings your guard down and makes expensive menu options seem more reasonable. After all, if the bread is so good I can only imagine how awesome the entrees must be. Does bread cut into appetizer revenue, offering free food in place of something you're going to pay for? Perhaps but I think its benefits far outweigh possible economic determinants. Second of all, and while some might consider this petty, they don't do free refills. I paid $14 for two club sodas that were each refilled once. And we're not talking Pellegrino here, just basic seltzer, carbonated water. I consider that ridiculous. I don't mind paying well for excellent food and do so with great frequency but crap like that just pisses me off. It's club soda, people. Water with some bubbles. In all fairness, our super polite server did tell us that they don't do refills, prior to bringing them to the table but that doesn't mean it was acceptable. It's really sad or maybe I'm just petty but after paying close to $200 for a pretty damn good meal served by some really nice people, I won't be returning for a fairly stupid reason. The hostess was patient and instead of rushing us to the first open table she instead allowed my Mom to pick a seat and waited until it opened up. She was happy to accommodate the table choice. Amazing food, service, staff! 10/10 We hosted a baby shower here (12 people total) and Cafe Amici was so accommodating and helpful. 1 waiter served our entire table, and there were 0 issues. all food came out hot and at the same time (even though we pretty much ordered 12 different things off the menu). Stopped by here with my friend for breakfast just as they opened at 10. We were the first customers so safe to say it was not busy or difficult to get a table (it was also a Tuesday). For being called a Cafe I felt like they didn't have a lot of breakfast options or drinks besides coffee based ones (there was no matcha) and now that I think about it, tea wasn't offered to us either. I ordered the Avocado Toast. I thought it was good! I subbed out the bacon for feta which I felt actually elevated the meal. The service was good because it was slow. To describe a feeling is a harder task. So for you, I will describe the atmosphere and shall hint towards my feelings in order for you to grasp the majority of the picture. ~~ A small-to-medium sized dining spot. When you first take steps into the cafe, you are met by a glimmer of light at all angles. Setting the stage immediately for you, the protagonist, to enjoy a meal. You walk to the hostess area (in which takeout is available), and the waitresses provide you with smiles, making you think to yourself aloud for a moment... "City of Stars, are you shining just for me?" They weren't but you'll still tell your mates they were... you rotten, yet love-deserved, slug. The wall decor is lovely, like a rusty Tuscan vibe means the Roman republic. You feel at home, but you also feel fancy. At a slightly fancy home. That is the ambiance. It envelops you into it's story, you're just glad to be there. Food: I've attended Friends Cafe multiple times at different hours. For lunch my pallet tends to acquaint itself with a sandwich. Something about two fat pieces of bread shutting up my fat face. Ironic? Satiric? Or On-Brand? Firsdoffff they got a nice tasting sauce which is obviously king of the court when your wagering and waffling on score. How do I know? Well I start off with the Calamarrrr. ~ Fried Calamari has become as popular as chips and salsa, as wings, as dips, as juicy fruit such as juicy melons. It's a go-to appetizer all over, and it's for a reason. The issue? A lot of joints trynna make something they can't do. Where you getting ya squid? Have you ever strangled a squid over a pot? Have you ever had 8 tentacles suction cup your lips and ask ya if you'd like to dance? Have ya ever wined and dined an octopus with their own freshly inked fettuccini? I bet ya haven't... I bet ya haven't kid. So don't tell me I don't know what I'm talking about. Don't you dare. Since I know what I'm talking about, I tend to try Calamari at ever place I go to as a sort of "test." I often like contrarian plays on the classic Italian app... but ya also gotta respect the classic when done properly. Cafe Amici does calamari well. They don't go crazy, they play the game the original way and my respect goes out to them for this. ~ I've yet to gobble down one of their artesian pizzas with my mouth, but I've done so with my eyes and with my nostrils. It passed those 2 tests... it's ready for the last and so am I. I have though eaten a bicep sized chicken Milanese sandwich from the joint. What a lovely little treat. A nicely done original type sandwich, good bread, thinly sliced chicken and plenty of balsamic. On top of that, they make both yummy and tasty French Fries from Italy served along side the sandwich... as all good sandwiches should be accompanied with. An ecologist would call that mutualism. They elevate each other. Symbiosis. Ambiance. Good words. They elevate me and I elevate them. What else what else? Da Fried Meatballs are noiceeeee. The hot cherry peppers? Ha. Class. If you know you know ya knobhead. Knock down that door and rip open some Arancini, also pretty good. The sauce helps it a lot. Gotta make good sauce folks. Write that down and eat it up til it sinks into the shallow deep end of your subconscious. I've got a taste of their chicken parm which was solid, could've been flattened a bit more. Scarpariello is good. Tagliatelle with short rib and shrooms could be classified as very good. Listen it's an easy menu to glaze, and a strong one to order from. They make it easy for you, ya can't screw up. And look at me now, coming to a close. Like a feathered pen, I stayed on point (a drip here and drop there when I went to refill) but nonetheless... no more ink no more me. UPDATED: Kind of disappointed. I was really in the mood for the angus burger which I had last visit and was phenomenal. Ordered it the same exact way, patty cooked to a medium temp, and what I received was extremely over cooked and well done. Ended up not eating It. Also ordered a Margarita pizza with prosciutto and was given a plain cheese pizza with a few slices of prosciutto and absolutely no basil. Inquired about it with staff, and was shocked at the response. There is one staff member in particular who has rubbed me the wrong way twice now. This time around they thought it appropriate to mock me when I tried to explain that this was not the pizza I was expecting. Then the chef came out and asked what the issue was, took the pie to the back, brought it back out and to my surprise they just took some basil, chopped it up and tossed it on top.
