I can't wait for the outdoor dining to open--it's private, brick-lined, and tucked away from the street, which is especially nice for Ridgewood.

We tried two of the specials: the orecchiette with sausage and broccoli rabe, which was absolutely delicious, and the chicken saltimbocca, which was fantastic -- by far the best dish of the night. We also had the cacio e pepe pasta, which unfortunately missed the mark. It was extremely undercooked -- even hard to cut with a butter knife -- so that was a bit disappointing. That said, everything else was wonderful! The desserts were outstanding -- their tartufo is unique and not like others I've had, and the Nutella ricotta pie was my absolute favorite. Very rich, very sweet, and a generous portion. Despite the pasta hiccup, we really enjoyed our meal and would absolutely come back again! Oddly they don't have a cappuccino maker and no regular coffee-just espresso I believe.

The carbonara was made nicely and didn't feel too heavy like other places. I thought the red sauce pastas were a bit lacking in flavor. Amatriciana didn't have any spice. Pomodoro needed some salt. Romaine salad was small and had too many croutons. Eggplant was delicious. We went during the day so there wasn't much ambiance perse. It is run by a family, and they were attentive. They are very serious about their work and respecting Italian traditions, which is commendable!

The first sign that something felt a bit off came when the hostess--who mentioned she was the chef's wife--presented the specials. She only described appetizer specials, including, somewhat oddly, guacamole and a Greek appetizer. Different, but not necessarily a dealbreaker. Since no entrée specials were mentioned, we assumed there simply weren't any. The menu is huge, not in offerings but rather the shear size of the menu was overwhelming. We were served bread, which was mediocre, and decided to order the stuffed zucchini flowers and burrata to start. Both appetizers were good. However, we were surprised to find that the bill reflected $22 for just four zucchini flowers. I don't mind paying for quality food, but that felt excessive--even for Ridgewood. We also initially received the wrong appetizer, though it was corrected quickly. For our entrées, we had the veal Milanese, which was decent, though slightly over-fried. Later in the evening, when a nearby table was seated, we overheard the dinner specials being described and realized there had, in fact, been entrée specials available. Unfortunately, we were never told about them, and some of the dishes mentioned sounded like options we would have considered ordering. There were a couple of aspects we didn't enjoy. First, the chairs were extremely uncomfortable. Although they appeared upholstered, they essentially felt like fabric stretched over wooden blocks--not ideal for sitting through a meal. Second, while the waitstaff was pleasant, it was difficult to get their attention for things like drinks, and the restaurant seemed understaffed. On the positive side, the hostess was warm and personable, even taking photos for guests, which was a nice touch. As the evening went on, however, the restaurant became quite loud. For a Tuesday night, we expected a quieter atmosphere, but it felt more like ladies' night out.

The hostess (& owner) was terrific as were all the servers. As for the food... it was outstanding! We had the tagliatelle, tortellini special, scallops and pork chop special. All were served hot and were all delicious. If we didn't live so far away, La Lanterna would be a go to restaurant for us. Now, unfortunately, it will be only when we see our NJ friends. (We may need to see them more often!) Bravo!

Osteria Sola gave our family an experience we will never forget…read more We held my mother's repast there, and from the very beginning, Massimo Sola could not have been more gracious, accommodating, or thoughtful. This was obviously an emotional day for our family, but he and his team created exactly the right atmosphere: elegant and classy, but still warm, comfortable, and family-centered. Our group of 32 guests was able to relax, talk, laugh, remember my mother, and truly enjoy being together. The food was outstanding from start to finish. This is authentic Italian cuisine prepared with real care. Every dish was flavorful, beautifully presented, and memorable. There was not a single mediocre item served. The short ribs and branzino were particular standouts, but honestly, everything was excellent. The service was just as impressive as the food. The staff was warm, attentive, and genuinely hospitable. When we went through all the bread, they went across the street to a local bakery to get more. When we were short on white wine, they helped procure additional bottles. At the end of the meal, Massimo even gave us a complimentary bottle of champagne to take home as a thank you. Those kinds of gestures say a lot about the heart of a restaurant. Every person in our group raved about the experience. Osteria Sola is a hidden gem right in the middle of town, and more people need to discover it. We are deeply grateful to Massimo and his team for helping us honor my mother with such a beautiful meal and such genuine hospitality.

The wine is sold in half or whole bottles (not glasses), so I opted out this time. The menu is a mix of traditional Spanish tapas as well as American and Latin American mixed in. Our original Resy was canceled due to a change in business hours, so we were offered a complimentary dessert. We tried the cheesesteak empanadas, croquettes, bbq pulled pork arepa, garlic shrimp, octopus, short rib gnocchi and finished with tres leches cake. My favorites were the octopus, shrimp, gnocchi, empanada, and tres leches cake. Croquettes were the least favorite, just not exciting, and they were kind of smashed. The octopus was very tender and enjoyed the sauce and sundried tomatoes that came with it. Everything came out at the right temperature and at a good pace to not overwhelm the table with dishes. The restaurant is dimly lit. I found the booth backs to be very hard and uncomfortable - could use an upgrade. Prices per dish are high for the size, but to be expected with tapas in the states. There are a lot of choices so there's something for everyone.

The paella Valencia lacked flavor and the seafood didn't taste fresh, the empanadas were forgettable, and eggplant parm just didn't deliver. Nothing was bad enough to send back, just consistently underwhelming for the price point. Pricing was in line with other tapas spots we've been to, and portions were fair -- no complaints there, this is tapas after all. The issue really came down to flavor and execution. The one bright spot was our server -- super attentive, checked in at all the right times, genuinely nice. Any stars this review gets are for him. Unfortunately the food is what brings us back (or not), and we won't be returning.

This review is solely based on their pizza since I see that they have a pretty large menu and I…read morereally can't judge the other items. We strolled in at around 5:45 on an early Saturday evening on a brick cold New Jersey day and they were BUSSSSY. There weren't many patrons dining inside their small restaurant, but there seemed to be PLENTY of takeout business for whole pies and delivery too. In addition, they had, if my count was correct, at least 9 gentlemen working behind the counter, which pretty much speaks for the volume of business they have (else they are grossly overemployed and overpaying). From what I saw just based on the pizzas on display next to the cash register, the slices looked pretty good. Unfortunately, as the old saying goes, looks can be deceiving. Not to say that the pizza was bad, but it could have been better on multiple fronts. We ordered 4 slices - plain cheese, pepperoni, buffalo and a Santoni's Special. In addition, my wife, veering on the healthier (and smarter) side, ordered a pear salad with chicken. First, I didn't get to try the pear salad, but my wife raved about how good it actually was and how she thoroughly enjoyed it as we munched on our pizza, which she should have been jealous of, but shockingly wasn't. Second, the pizza. My kids ate almost the entirety of their plain cheese and pepperoni slices, so I didn't have a chance to try them, other than a few roni cups that my son claimed were too spicy for him. As for my slices, the buffalo and Santoni's Special, the buffalo was a doozy. When I bite into a buffalo pizza slice, there's nothing I hate more than the fact that it lacks buffalo flavoring and this one was one of those cases. It was more on the side of just tasting like a chicken pizza slice with a slight hint of buffalo flavoring, if that. The Santoni's Special was a bit better in that it had green peppers, sausage, pepperoni, onion and mushroom. It reminded me of a Sbarro supreme slice of pizza. It might not seem like much of a compliment, but I actually enjoyed the Santoni's Special, albeit it was not on the piping hot side, nor did it keep is shape. In fact, neither slice I had was hot, which was very surprising considering that it took a while for them to be served to us, which can only have meant that it was heated up in the oven --- or so I thought????? Also, both slices I ate completely fell apart in that when I tried to fold them in half (like how a true New Yorker eats their slices of pizza), they cracked at the crust and broke creating a fissure looking like I had cut the pizza in that area. It was somewhat annoying as I had to eat the slice with 2 hands, which to me, is a big no-no as one should be able to devour a slice by holding it with just one hand. What self-righteous pizza lover holds a slice of pizza with 2 hands? Well, I had to unfortunately because of the fault line on my pizza. The pizza here definitely has potential and I don't know what a whole pie would taste like, but I'm pretty sure it would be fresher than the slices we had. I get that pizzas where slices are served from are typically sitting out for long periods, but you gotta heat the slices up a lot longer. Cold pizza should only be reserved for the morning when you wake up from that hang over and don't have the mental acuity to throw it in the oven or microwave it.
