Great local Italian restaurant in Allendale. Calamari was average but Fettuccine Bolognese Alla Tartufo was very good with veal and mushrooms. I do think the prices are a bit elevated though ($29 for the pasta). The tiramisu and tartufo for dessert were great, although nothing particularly exceptional. It was our 3rd time dining there in 1 month. Tried to give it a chance however, 3 strikes, you know the rest! The food is marginal at best. For some reason, they are afraid to season their food. 4.5 stars We ordered takeout from Mezza Luna Bistro the other day and had another great experience! In all honesty, there were a few inaccuracies in the order, but the staff politely rectified the situation, and the food was absolutely delicious. We started by sharing not only the complimentary rich balls and doughy semolina bread, but also an order of the Eggplant Napoleon appetizer and the Fettuccine Bolognese Alla Tartufo pasta dish. The rice balls were more on the mushy side and less fried than others; they were also served in a creamy tomato sauce. The bread was excellent, as was the gooey layered eggplant and cheese dish. The homemade fettucine was topped with a chunky, rich sauce that included milk-braised veal and truffle-scented mushrooms in a tomato ragu. The pasta had been one of our favorite dishes on our dine-in visit, so we were thrilled to savor it yet again. From an entree perspective, I divided up the Chicken Carciofi and the pork loin special to share with a family member. The poultry dish included 3 large, thinly sliced breasts that were served with roasted artichokes, peppers, and mushrooms in a light lemon sauce. Now, I typically am not a lemon fan, but the hearty broth was actually very nice and without an overwhelming amount of citrus. It was served over creamy mashed potatoes and with a side of sauteed spinach. The roasted pork loin had been very well-seasoned on its edges, and each of its many slices was nice and tender. The meat was served with a side of fragrant mushroom risotto and a cup of apricot sauce. I had initially skipped the fruity jam so that I could try the pork on its own. I wound up liking the meat so much that I ate my portion without any of the apricot. We had also ordered a side dish of Bolognese, but received the Penne alla Vodka by mistake. I had not had that creamy sauce in years, and their version was heavenly! I also sampled some of the penne that came with an order of Chicken Marsala (which had incorrectly been topped with cheese), and I found that sauce a bit weak and watery. Normally, we do not order dessert when we get takeout, but we were super intrigued by the Homemade Chocolate Mousse Cake, so we decided to indulge. The rich cake did not disappoint! In fact, its layers of chocolate cake, mousse, and ganache composed probably the best rendition of the treat that I had ever had. It was a must order for sure! Though we had a few snafus with the order, I still adored our food from Mezza Luna Bistro and would gladly return! read more

Went here on Friday November 1st 2024 with some family to celebrate a special event. I can't remember if i've been here before but it is a beautiful place. It is an Italian restaurant with elegant tableclothes and napkins. The whole restaurant has an italian vibe to it. At this restaurant, one can bring their own alcoholic drinks like wine, liquor, whatever one wants! As a party, we also had our own waters. Loved the fried Calamari appetizer! Perfect taste, not too crispy, and just to my liking. Now what the party did was preorder some appetizers- like fried calamari, meatballs, and mozzarella and peppers (an italian thing!) Bread was also very good . We then was able to order from the menu anything we wanted. I decided on the penne ala vodka. They also have a gluten free option, which is helpful for someone with a gluten sensitivity which we had in our party. Others ordered the chicken samboita, sertino, and other dishes. Menu wise they have a variety of options- fish, salmon, chicken marsala/ franchaise, sortabata, and many options, plus one can get veal as well. Dinners come with salad. for some reason i didn't like the salad as much, but the rest of the people in our party did. Our waiter was very good at refilling our drinks, as well as taking our orders, and clearing plates off the tables. Food came in a timely manner and everyone's food did come out at once, and at the same time. I very much enjoyed my penne ala vodka. Others also enjoyed their food. Server also did a good job checking on us and making sure our food was okay, and it was great! When everyone finished eating, we were handed the dessert menu, and a couple of us ordered coffees, and one ordered a slice of cake, and i had a scoop of chocolate ice cream. i thought it was cool to have both chocolate and vanila ice cream as a menu choice, because some people do prefer chocolate. Ice cream was good and creamy and very enjoyable. Then we were handed the check, paid via a credit card, and left the tip on there i believe. Also used the restroom, and it was very clean. What a random find. My friend and I wanted to walk around the nature preserve and happened upon this restaurant. The lunch specials are so worthwhile! Three appetizers for around $16? This restaurant is my best friend's fiancé's favorite restaurant. We came here for his birthday with a group of people. We arrived and had to wait as the place was packed. It's very popular for dinner on a Saturday night. We were sat at a comfortable booth in the back after waiting for 15 minutes or so. You have to bring your own wine here as it is a BYOB restaurant. We started with the pumpkin ravioli, it was delicious but not as much of a pumpkin flavor as I had hoped for. I had the shrimp fra diavolo. It was the perfect amount of spicy and I really enjoyed it. They gave us up with complimentary bread, salad, and a meatball before the meal! I ordered the Jumbo Gulf Shrimp Fra Diavlo, which was really good, but I forgot to ask them to leave out the Calabrian Chili, and it was a bit too spicy for me (my bad for forgetting). So. What can I say that I didn't say in my last review. Adi don't change a thing! Excellent food and a great service staff. Chilean Sea Bass was not on the menu but not a problem when we asked. We've been coming here for quite awhile, if not with our spouses then a guys night out. My cousin is a regular here and knows the staff quite well. Once again this is BYOB for those who want to know. Liquor store right across the street, so you can bring it nice and cold. Ice buckets provided for chilled wine or champagne.
