I was recommended to come here to try the chicharrons. So that I did! We got a full one which was my favorite great taste not to hard also not super greasy which was a plus for me. I can definitely just eat it like that straight up. I also got the pork rinds which I love to eat with lime and hot sauce. The prices for this were pretty fair and better than any where else I've been in Winston. I can't wait to go back and get some more and definitely would like to try the food that they offer so stay tuned! read more

I decided to revisit this place and try some different items. I've tried the Chile Rellenos and the Carnitas which were a bit of a mixed bag - declared by the spot to be authentic - opinions vary! In this visit I was looking to try the Chicharron Con Carne, which is pork rind with meat (pork belly). The Chicharron Con Carne were individually huge, featuring a large amount of meat (pork belly) and fat attached to the pork skin. You buy them by the pound, so I ordered a pound and received 3 Chicharron and the cost was a little over $26! Finally got to check this spot out for the first time. I think its a cool setup they have....they offer fresh cuts of beef and pork...didn't get a good look at what was being sold exactly, but they do sell meats by the pound. They also have some Mexican / Spanish specific beverages there too (Jarritos, Mexican coke, etc). They also have a decent beer selection too if thats your thing. Ordered one of their pork combo plates w pinto beans and rice. I think its cool also that they give you freshly made tortillas as well. Also ordered a side of their Spanish rice, a side of shredded beef and some pork skins. Pork skins were amazing and I almost ate most of them before I got home. The food itself was pretty tasty....full of Mexican spices...I actually loved the flavor, but be warned it does pack some spice and heat to it. Not overtly spicy but enough to at least make my nose run a bit...sorry for being too graphic. Anyways, it was all tasty ...the rice, beans and the pork as well. Only complaint I have is that I was expecting both the beef and pork to be a bit more tender than it was. It wasn't dry at all and they do a good job of making sure you get the proteins drenched in the sauces and seasonings they're served in, but some of the bites were more tender than others, if that makes any sense. It's a cafeteria style setup there. You can get their items served a la carte also. Service itself was pretty good too. The lady who helped me did explain the dishes. She also mentioned their in house chips n salsa was the best anywhere. I didn't grab any this time, but will the next time. All in all I enjoyed it and will be back again soon. Fresh Tortillas, yes you will find them here. However, that's not all they are about. They have some great Mexican food you can just point to & get to go. Get a nice hefty plate of authentic Mexican food to go, that's the only downside is that you have nowhere to eat there. It's only to go, but I tell you what they package it nicely for you & it will still be nice & hot when you get it home. & it will feed at least 2 people & comes with plenty of fresh made tortillas. The best I'd the fresh made Chicharron the kind that's crispy skin with meat on it, ohhh it makes you drool it's soo delicious & fresh they tend to run out of it early in the day. They also make fresh pork cracklings. All of it super delicious! I use to go to the flea market to get my Chicharron & they charged double the price, it sat in grease & now you have to pay for parking. This is way better, better price & less of hassle for parking! Tortilleria La Esperanza just opened in Clemmons, and it is a welcome and unique addition to the village culinary scene. Restaurant probably isn't the right word here, since there are no tables or chairs, but the cafeteria style set up allows you to pick from an assortment of hot bulk entrees, including three different barbacoa options (beef, lamb, and goat), chilles relleno, tripe, and ribs. You can purchase by the pound or (for most entrees) a combo that includes a truckload of tortillas, rice, beans, and salsa. Portions for the combos are huge. On this visit I opted for the beef barbacoa combo and added on one red and one green tamale. The beef was melt in your mouth tender and very tasty. Homemade tortillas are a hit (15 came with my order). The tamales were great as well! Definitely give this place a try, especially if you have an army to feed back at home. read more

I have only gotten tortillas and chips from this awesome tortilleria in the Lowe's Foods shopping center in Clemmons. Today, I took a closer look at the hot foods bar and couldn't resist the Chile Rellenos with rice & beans. Two huge Chiles battered in a light breading and covered in a light orange salsa that I could literally drink by the cup full! Mexican rice and frijoles (delicious pintos) all washed down with the best Agua de Piña (pineapple juice) I've ever tasted. Go, you will not regret it. They have a tortilla machine in plain view in the back and the Chile Rellenos plate came with 15 fresh, piping hot tortillas! I'll never buy store-bought tortillas or chips again. Right beside Brewer's Kettle if you want to walk next door and enjoy some authentic Mexican food with an adult beverage, but I won't be able to pass up the Aguas de Fresca from now on! I just noticed this establishment and had to stop in and check them out. They have quite a selection of take out menu items. I tried the chicken tamales and they were pretty good. Quite large compared to some other Mexican places. They had chicken and pork cooked different ways and it all smelled so good but I had just finished lunch. Clemmons now boasts some of the best Mexican food in the Triad. Tortillería La Esperanza not only has amazing fresh corn tortillas, but they have a cafeteria counter filled with meats and side dishes to build a meal for every member of the family. Prices run approximately $9.99 per pound for most meats, including barbecoa in three varieties: beef, lamb and goat. They have pork ribs, whole chicken, steak and eggs, Chile rellenos, tamales, chicharrón in three varieties, small bite-sized pieces, massive whole slabs and the meaty strips about the size of a rib. Carnitas we're not on display, but they prepared some in the back for us, plus we sampled their chicken ala crema... which is awesome! You can order a combo which comes with a pound of meat, rice, beans, salsas and a dozen tortillas, all for $13. We got the carnitas and the barbecoa de res (beef). The carnitas needed a little more flavor, but a pinch of salt did the trick. The barbecoa is outstanding! The tortillas almost look like flour, but they are corn, and have the best texture and flavor... not to mention that they are served nice and warm. The tamales weren't too exciting, but they never have been my favorite. The Chile relleno was great with a poblano Chile stuffed with cheese, and the tomato sauce had a touch of sweetness, much like tomato soup. The meaty chicharrones were both crunchy and chewy and excellent when dipped in the juice from the barbecoa. The rice and black beans were both great, along with red and green salsas. They also have fresh made cheeses, so I'll have to go back to try their homemade Quesa Oaxaca, a Mexican string cheese. They will give you samples of everything they make. Service was fantastic. And 2 combo meals with 2 different meats, rice, beans, 2 dozen tortillas, two tamales, a chicharrón and a Chile relleno fed a family of four, plus leftovers for just $34. read more

In town for work and always looking for something different and good in the way of meals. This place hits the spot. As mentioned, it's more of a Mexican cafeteria/deli than a restaurant. Had a chile relleno and the beef combo which were very tasty. Excellent salsas on the side. Beverage assortment was interesting, including Mexican Fresca. No diet drinks though. Tortilleria La Esperanza is a different sort of eatery. It is designed for take out service only. My wife assumed she would get tacos but they do not sell tacos as a meal option. What they do offer (and it is a valuable addition to our area) is an array of proteins, expertly prepared and available for review on a hot bar. One can purchase meals (protein of your choosing, side of rice and a side of beans), proteins by the pound, fresh corn tortillas, red or green salsa and others.
