We stopped here after golfing at Sycamore Ridge in Spring Hill. It had a nice atmosphere and what looked to be a decent sized patio. The staff was very friendly and attentive. We had the super nachos, the chicken magnifico, Monterrey burrito and Barbacoa burrito. Loved the nachos - they were NOT a pile of chips covered with toppings, but instead tortilla quarters layered nicely with all of the toppings! Way more enjoyable way to eat nachos. The only complaint was that the meat was a little over cooked in the Barbacoa burrito. Everyone thought the flavors were good though. I thought the margaritas had a little too much sweet and sour. We spent $30 for 2 meals and a margarita. We would not hesitate to go back if we were in the area, but wouldn't drive out of our way to go. read more

After much consideration and acclimation to the local area I have decided to update my review. Perhaps I was feeling homesick for California Mexican style food at the time, but the employees here have proven to be really accommodating and friendly. Very child and family friendly, this is the perfect place for a church gathering or any other social plans you may have. I recommend the Tacos al Pastor with the pineapple salsa and avocado, and the black beans are so yummy! Other favorites: tamales (authentic) and the chile rellano with the sauce they serve is something to be remembered. I compare La Carreta to Mi Ranchito. And since there's no 'rito in Gardner, this is where to go! The espinaca cheese dip is delicious and their chips are just right with the crunchy/salty mix. I've had burritos, enchiladas, and tacos at La Carreta and have been happy with all of it. They have a wide variety in their menu as well as having lunch specials. Great Mexican restaurant in Gardner. The dishes are pretty typical for the area, and the servings are large. Is there anywhere that you get more bang for your buck than the Mexican joints in the KC Metro? They all give you a ton of food. I've always found the service to be fantastic, and the prices are very fair. Always be sure to check out the special, and it's often something not on the menu, and almost always an awesome deal. For me, the only thing they don't do well is the salsa, it just doesn't hit the spot for my taste. That's so personal though that I don't hold it against them at all. Definitely give this a place a shot when visiting Gardner. read more

The food here is just so-so and everything is covered in grease, literally. The menus the floors were all sticky to the touch. I ate and left and probably won't be back. I've had worse food but this place didn't seem to be very clean and I am a stickler about eating in a dirty place. read more

Loved the food and service! My boyfriend complained because he wanted some weird special order type of thing and the waitress repeated it back to him two different times, he didn't get what he had ordered but he never said anything else about it until we left so he can't really complain. Went here to try it for the first time. Everything was going great and then our queso got to the table and our 2nd bite we found a hair in it. Not a big deal at first, it happens, and we didn't really mind. Then, the next scoop we found two more hairs in it. We proceeded to tell our server about the issue and told him that we would no longer be eating the queso and that we were good on getting a new one(because by then, we had lost our appetite for queso)... he says okay and walks away, he then comes back a few minutes later and says "we don't have anyone with that color hair working here" and proceeded to blame the hairs on my girlfriend, who was sitting on the furthest side of the table away from the queso. After that, he then walked away and a few minutes later we saw him with the manager laughing and looking at our table from a distance. I was pretty pissed off by then but we decided to give the food a chance and order our main course. We ordered and waited a quick 10 minutes for our food, which was great. The food was over all an 8/10. It was pretty good and my girlfriend had leftovers to take home as well! Overall besides the incident with the hairs and the accusations from the manager/server, we had a good time and the food was good. Not sure if I would recommend this place to other people simply because of our bad experience. read more

This is our go to place for sure if we are not wanting to leave Gardner area. Good variety of food, great flavor and service. They do offer specials that are not on the menu so ask your server. I give it 3 stars because the food is always pretty darn good and comes out pretty quickly. And NORMALLY the service is great. But the last 2 times we have been here thee service has been very poor. We waited over 10 mins for someone to even come acknowledge we were there and take drink orders. Then they charged us for 2 alcoholic drinks we didn't even order.
