Food-wise: black beans are flavorful, the burritos are a nice Chipotle size (if not, even bigger), they have frijoles con queso and queso con loroco pupusas-- they were a little gritty but I also don't usually add the curtido. Not sure why anyone would give this place less than 5 stars. It's one of the very few Olathe restaurants that deserves one. Come here to get authentic food made and served to you by a nice family. Expect that it won't be Taco Bell fast because it's made from scratch by family members. There are dozens of Mexican food trucks around. This is the place to go to get a fat belly! read more

WAIT ABOUT A MONTH (Late July) FOR THE OLDER COUPLE TO GET BACK FROM VACATION.  IF NOT CHECK EVERY CONTAINER OF YOUR CARRY OUT ORDER FOR ACCURACY. Have a bad dish it happens. With this train wreck we will not be back until they come back. See attached receipt Chicken Flauntas are a plate with rice..... except they forgot the rice. Tostadas.... well they broke out the beef for 1 tostadas onto 3 shells and very little vegetables. Huarache.... up charged for asada (steak).... too much work to use steak?  again light on the shredded beef and vegetables Chicken Quesadilla .... well almost got it right they used cheese and the flour  tortilla, but forgot the chicken. Pork Tamale ...Never made it to the bag. Sauces had lids not tight,  on so it was all over the containers. I should have known it was not going to be up to grandma and grandpa's standards,  when I waited the 20 minutes and went back in and the girl tells me our food is ready...... what was it you ordered again? We lucked out when we found this place, and after going in regularly for the last 6 months. This happened..... very disappointing. I hope they can get their house in order. read more

We pass this restaurant/bakery almost everyday since we live a few miles away! My husband I decided to stop by on Sunday evening and we were pleasantly surprised! We were the only ones there and it brought me back to our trips to Mexico! The place was very clean and the service was great! The menu is plastered all over the walls with pictures! My husband ordered a steak burrito and I ordered a chicken quesadilla! Our order took a little longer than expected but we didn't mind! The food itself was delicious! New owners and the menu has changed slightly and the prices have increased again. They do offer papusas which were just ok.... The rest of our food was definitely not up to the same standard as we were used to. The hot red salsa wasn't even edible. This makes me sad because this place used to be soooooo good! read more

This was my first visit to El Panzote. My father-in law had discovered it earlier and has been 3 times before and he took me today, When you walk in the door you have to admire how neat and clean the place is. They have recently added more table space to accommodate more guests. The owner was very helpful in assisting us place our order from the large color photos of the various of plate options. The seasoning was outstanding, very flavorful but not overpowering for my tastes. The portions are very generous. I will be getting a second meal out of my burrito. This place is as much as a bakery as it is a Mexican restaurant. The whole back wall is a pastry shelf and I can't wait to come back some morning for a cup of coffee and to try one of the amazing looking sweets! read more

Ate here against my best judgement. I'm picky about Mexican food since my Mexican mother's family owned a Spanish-Mexican restaurant down in Central Mexico. I know all about real Mexican food, and had warned my husband, who ate with me, that I wasn't sure about what they offered. All I can say is I would have much rather had a Chipotle burrito. Asides this, we had come here, about two years ago, for some of the sweet bread. The puff pastries seemed pretty good so I decided to get some more. This time I was highly disappointed when after chewing the bread it seemed to have pieces of paper in it. I'm not sure what happened. read more

I was quite impressed with this restaurant. It's pretty typical to what I remember from the cuisine in Mexico and the staff is quite accommodating and friendly. I requested the chicken empanadas and the beef empanadas. I was quite satisfied with the results and I will try to go back again. I'll give this place another try but for right now I will assign it four stars. read more

We came here because of the line at the BBQ next door. All I can say is OMG this little place is Awesome!! The flavor in our entree was outstanding! Great little spot. If you are a gringo and scared of a place that might have a slight language barrier this place is not for you. Me personally i like that challenge. Food is great. I had tacos 3 carne Asada and 3 al pastor. Star of the lunch was the asada Gordita. This isn't your Taco Bell Gordita this is . All I have tried here is the tomato-based seafood soup, and oh my god is it good. Best broth and flavor ever. My boyfriend got the tostones, which I thought were excellent. Great service, the owner is very personable. My one complaint is that they do not have tap water available, we had to buy bottled water. read more

Just ate here for the first time with my wife. Sunday afternoon she got a chicken tamale and a chorizo and el pastor taco. While I got shredded beef flautas and a Chile rellano. They brought out two sauces to use both hot and delicious. Looking forward to coming back! Most authentic non Tex mex Mexican I have had in a long time. I tried his place today. I had the Bistec a la Mexicana and a taco de chorizo- it was good! My daughters had Tacos de Asada. I tasted it and it was good too but not as good as the tacos de chorizo. And the tortillas on the tacos seemed like they had just been heated up in the microwave. I like my tortillas heated up on a pan (maybe I'm just being picky ) Anyway, overall it was good. Great Mexican food for those of you that enjoy eating in Mexico and understand the difference between American Mexican food and real Mexican food. This is cheaper than a plane ticket to Veracruz. Had a pastor and chorizo taco as well as a chicken tamale. The tamale was huge, moist and very flavorful. The tacos were excellent as well. Love small authentic Mexican restaurants. No Tex Mex. Gentleman working today was very polite. Had a small conversation with him. Very pleasant. Played safe with a beef burrito with rice and black beans since it was my first time here. Burrito was delicious and very generous on the size. AMAZING tacos. One of the best authentic mexican tacos in kc. Cocina II is really good as well. The bakery has .75 cookies that are worth every penny. Gotta try this place! read more
