    My taco, ohhhh
    Kat S.

My son and I were able to go out yesterday for lunch at LA Carreras. My first thought when we walked in was, that it was really clean and the aroma was so inviting. The young lady that helped us was very nice, she gave us time to order and set us up with everything we needed for our upcoming meal. My son had a Super Steak Burrito he said it was very good. I had a chicken tostada, so delicious, the meat was tender and juicy I had them add some avacado and sour cream.. My two steak tacos also very good, the steak was flavorful and not fatty, I added avacado to them...I also enjoyed a Cantaloupe Fresca, I love it it's my favorite. Thankyou LA Carrera for a good lunch with fantastic service, and a clean restaurant..We Appreciste You!

We've really come to depend on this nearby Mexican restaurant for our weekly cravings. My husband gets the wonderful shedded beef Nachos Grande, I change it up and try new things. My favorite is the taco salad. I also love the pickled veggies that come with the combo platters. My son loves the enchiladas. They do take out and you can get delivery. The food is ready really fast which is great for hungry tummies.

    Come eat here!

Great Mexican food restaurant. I love their California burritos with Carnitas. They also do great chips and guacamole. I highly recommend this place and I also support them because they are local to where I live. If you're in the area definitely check it out.

Have had poor experiences here numerous times. We always have a long gap in between visits and think, "it will be better this time". Not the case. Food quality is poor and prices are high. Today's incident was a large 18 taco order with a "medium" side of rice and beans. (Basically a 12x12 tin, with half rice and half refried beans). Left in a hurry, then started thinking about the bill when I got home. Didn't get a receipt and couldn't think of how it added up to $130. Went back in for a receipt and found my rice and beans side cost $55. Just speechless...... Was not even worth arguing over. Completely my fault for not checking before paying and for thinking this trip would be different than all the rest. Do yourself a favor and just avoid the place. I need to stop being so delusional and thinking La Carreta is magically improving.

I was trying to decide whether or not to leave a review I decided that I should. I've visited La Carreta about one month ago. I had heard about quesabirria tacos and wanted to try. I noticed them on Doordash and that they sold them but every time I tried to order the restaurant was not available to order from. The tacos were $5.99 however Doordash is price is a little inflated most of the time. I decided to visit the restaurant and have dinner there with a friend. I did not see the tacos on the menu but ask if they have them in the server kindly told me that they did. When I asked how much they were she said she thought they were around $4+ I ordered four tacos and drinks and a enchilada plate to eat there and an additional six tacos to go for my husband and son. When they brought out the four tacos, they were not crispy at all. They were very soggy and required eating with a fork. There was also no consommé and they forgot to put cheese in them. I did not want to make a big deal out of it so I did tell them that the tacos they served would be OK but please make sure to put cheese in the to go order and to make them extra crispy. I was shocked when she brought the bill. It was over $100! I was charged $8 each for the tacos. ...that's $80 for ten tacos ala carte! The service was good, so I tipped her 20%, and decided that I would not return to that restaurant. As I walked out I turned around and came back in and asked her if the tacos were really $8 each. She tapped something into the register and then told me, "yes they are". I thought that seemed outrageous...even for North Bay prices...considering she told me she thought they were around $4. But I turned around and left determined that I would tell everyone I know not to eat there. I completely forgot about it until I logged into Uber eats today and saw their restaurant listed and selling the tacos for $5.99 each.

Picked this up to go. OH my goodness!! Excellent! Spicy and flavorful. So good!!

I love, love, love this place!! I forget about it because I'm so used to just going to the Mexican restaurants close to my home, but this place is great. The prices are HIGH, that much I have to agree with on other reviews, they seem much higher than "normal" sit down restaurants in Marin. The fact that you walk in, order from a menu board, are given a number then go find a seat is a little awkward if you've never been there, but once you are familiar with the menu and the process things go smoothly and the food is soooooooooooooo worth the wait. Staff here is friendly, service with a smile, and very patient as you read the extensive menu board. I usually just have water, and don't mind that it's room temp, if you want ice, just ask, and they'll get you some. I picked up an order to go on Thursday night of Chile Verde that was off the hook delicious. The pork was perfectly spiced up, just spicy enough to make me THINK about eating a tortilla and drinking some milk, the beans are so flavorful, and the rice is great too. Authentic, it reminds me of my trip to Mexico as a teenager. This place is immaculate from the front of store to the restrooms!!!

Breakfast burrito-Chorizo, eggs, retried beans, cheese, & potatoes. I'll skip the potatoes next time.

Haven't had anything else on the menu yet except their breakfast burritos. We got chorizo burritos for brunch and chowed them down. It was tasty and good and really should try other things on the menu next time. The potatoes were a little soggy & mushy so maybe I'll get a little rice in it instead.

The one thing I was let down was the amount of chips and salsa given out as we sat down. There were three of us and we received two small bowls of green and red salsa. When I say small, they were the size of the bowl you order fries and they give you ketchup. Now, for the price you pay for Mexican food now a day, I am expecting a little more salsa and chips. I will be coming back, as the food is great, and the people are so nice. Just don't be so frugal on the chips and salsa.

We chose to try a new place, and El Rey caught our attention. We arrived around 7:30, and the restaurant wasn't busy since it was a Sunday evening. Looking at the menu, I was drawn to their ceviche. We decided to start with guacamole and chips, share a ceviche, and have a Quesadilla con Carne Asada. The guacamole was fresh and well-made, the ceviche was exceptionally delicious, and the quesadilla was very well prepared and tasty. Our server was very friendly and helpful with our questions, and we even shared a few good laughs. The service was excellent. El Rey has been a local spot in Novato for many years, family-owned and known for serving traditional Mexican dishes in a welcoming setting. It has built a reputation in the community as a reliable place for a hearty meal, and many locals have been coming here for decades. The restaurant is a standalone building in a shopping center and offers a large seating area. They also have an outdoor seating area, which I imagine would be especially nice on a warm evening. As a first-time visitor, I left impressed. The food, service, and relaxed atmosphere made for a very enjoyable stop on our drive. We would definitely come back again the next time we're in Novato.

We drove around, debating a few different options and decided to pop into Tommy's Salsa. The first thing I noticed was how charming the atmosphere was, including the lighting and warm cozy temperature. It was a chilly evening and absolutely wonderful to walk into this welcoming atmosphere. The young woman who took our order was super sweet and friendly. I ordered the chicken soup with a side of avocado to put on top and my husband had a beer along with tacos. I noticed they were very busy with a lot of people coming in for pickup. We were starting to get nervous because the game was about to begin and our food was taking a long time. even though we had to go ask for our food, worried that we were forgotten. I still did not dock them a star because of how friendly they were and how delicious the food was. Very nice people work here! We enjoyed complementary chips, along with a tasty bean dip, My soup was a generous portion, and the broth was tasty but a bit on the salty side, still, loaded with vegetables and generous portion of chicken: two drumsticks. The squeeze of lime that was provided was the perfect compliment. It would've been nice to have more time and feel relaxed, but we had to rush back for the game. I have a favorite Mexican restaurant in San Rafael however, every time we go there, the bright fluorescent lighting is brutal and it's like eating in a refrigerator . And the people that work there are kind of like robots and don't really seem to care about us. I'm only saying this because yes, the food is important and Tommy's has absolutely delicious food, but it is also about feeling comfortable in the environment. Next time we are in Novato, we will definitely eat here again!

We had a reservation for Father's Day and waited about 10 minutes for a table to open, as it was the busiest I have seen. The table was nice, big enough for the five of us, and the ambiance is always great here as well. We were quickly greeted by our server, Eli, who provided chips and salsas to whet our appetites, and we soon narrowed our focus to the food and drink menus. We ultimately decided on some El Jefe Tacos, a shrimp and crab enchilada, a three-item combo with two chile rellenos and a cheese enchilada with green sauce, a carne asada taco, and the volcanic Molcajete (served in a warm stone bowl with grilled steak, chicken, and prawns. Covered with a red chile, roasted tomato sauce). For libations, we went with a mojito and a new drink - for us at least - the pineapple mezcal mule! The food came in a timely manner, and the molcajete was still bubbling! Hence, the volcano nickname! The mojito was very minty and refreshing, and the pineapple mezcal mule was an acquired taste for some of the group - I enjoyed the smoky earthiness of the mezcal, but it's not your run-of-the-mill tequila, so if you are new to mezcal, be aware of the difference. The food last time was a bit spicy, but this time it was not an issue. Still spicy, but not to the point of being overpowering. Even the salsas were not as extreme. Good for some of us! All the food was delicious, and the three-item combo was great to look at as well. As we say, "the eyes eat first," and indeed my eyes were little piggies that meal! Overall, the service was great, the food great, and the entertainment a perfect background for what would have been just a noisy bunch of chatter. Overall a great Father's Day lunch.

I ordered the tropical pork. I told my daughter that it was a Mexican version of Chinese sweet and sour pork. It has many of the same ingredients. It was very flavorful and came with rice, beans, and plantains. It also came with a nice side salad of mixed greens and balsamic vinaigrette (?). My daughter ordered a combo plate with a veggue burrito and chicken flauta. I tasted both. Good, but didn't really shine. We were both surprised to see broccolli in her burrito. We finally got the chance to do that, and it made us wish we had done it earlier. As we entered the restaurant, I saw the bar with people sitting there, drinking, chatting, and watching football on TV. My first mistaken impression was that this was more of a working man's hangout. But when we went into the dining area, we were seated, and I looked around at the other folks there and overheard some of their conversations, I realized that the place is more of a local favorite. The atmosphere was warm and family-oriented. I saw couples, young and old, and families with children of various ages. Our server stopped by shortly after we sat down, and we received a basket of freshly made chips and salsa, both of which were delicious. I had read about their tasty margaritas but decided against ordering one this time because I was tired and driving home to San Francisco. So we went straight to the main course! I ordered Adobado, a dish I hadn't tried before. Adobado features thin slices of pork tenderloin marinated and grilled in a chipotle-adobado sauce, served with plantains and sour cream. It turned out to be a very satisfying and fulfilling choice, but not enough to prevent me from asking for a flan. Let me tell you about my obsession with flan! I love flan, but to me, a good flan is one that is not too sweet and not overcooked to be too hard. It should be firm enough to not fall apart when served to you, but soft enough to tremble as it is presented! The flan here was perfect! The two guys who worked on the floor were wonderful. They answered our questions while we were ordering and stopped at our table several times afterward to see if we needed anything and to make sure everything was fine. The restaurant has nice decorations. I don't know much about its history in the neighborhood, but it seems to have been there for years. I spent a few minutes looking around at the various drawings on the walls and other decorations around the dining area. It will grab your attention. Overall, this was a pleasant experience. We will stop by there again, and I'll make sure to try their margarita next time!
