Stopped by for a quick birthday dinner tonight. Our server April, was so nice and helpful. The…read morecustomer service was top tier. The food was fresh and absolutely delish. We loved the music and even heard some karaoke. Definitely will be returning to this gem!

Mother's Day dinner was disappointing, especially since we had an early 5 PM reservation and the…read morerestaurant was only about half full. It took nearly 15 minutes for our server to greet us, and our appetizer arrived before our drinks, for this round, only three drink orders total. Throughout the visit, we felt pressured to place our entrée order before we were ready. Once our food arrived, we noticed the enchiladas had red sauce instead of the tomatillo/green sauce we ordered. The food runner insisted the red sauce was tomatillo sauce, which was clearly incorrect. What stood out most was the lack of service continuity. We were seated by the window and noticed our server, Jacqueline, left around 6 PM simply because her shift ended. There was no introduction to another server or any handoff whatsoever. After waiting quite a while with no one checking on us, we eventually had to go to the host stand ourselves just to close out the bill. Our tab was around $200. Rather than dine and dash, we paid in full for the food and drinks, but chose not to leave gratuity based on the experience. The food itself was nicely presented and overall tasted good, but high prices comparable to Chicago do not automatically make a restaurant upscale. If you're looking to overspend on Mexican cuisine while receiving poor customer service, this may be the place for you.

OK, once you get past the fact that it's a hole in the wall Mexican place let me tell you the…read moreservice is great. They're always prompt. They bring you free chips and salsa to your table. I usually opt for the same thing every time, the queen which is skirt steak And rice and beans with a cheese enchilada and shredded lettuce and tomato it never disappoints. It's always spot on delicious it comes with your choice of corner flour tortillas. I always get corn. It's just a perfect meal. They have other things of course and my family gets those such as tacos or Maria that sort of thing Overall for the price point. You get a lot for your money. It's delicious food and it won't break the bank perfect for family is or a date or anything. It's just a really good place.

I am wondering if El Amigo, in Schererville, is under new management…read more Today, I was there having dinner. They were busy so there wasn't much of being checked in on, which is fine, I understand. When it came up to go pay. We proceeded to go pay and noticed that I was being charged a "fee" for using a debit card. Up to my current knowledge a debit card is not to be charged a "fee" like a credit card (could regulations/laws have changed and I was unaware absolutely). So then I proceeded to ask the lady why a "fee" was being charged on a debit card. She then proceeded to state that their system has always been doing it and that she has been there for the last 10 years. I have been going to this restaurant for about the last 10ish years and not once seen this person before. This person proceeded to become rude and blatantly nasty. I called her out on it and said "damn, you're rude" She proceeded to say "I don't care" and continued to repeat "I don't care" throughout the whole interaction, rather than try to come to a calm solution/explanation. For someone who works in a restaurant or a business I think that's highly unprofessional to be completely honest. I then proceeded to ask if there was someone above her who I could speak to about this for which she stated " God is above me". I responded to her saying absolutely "God is above all of us". She continued to be nasty and rude throughout the whole interaction. Another employee tried to come in, intervene, and help with the situation but she just gave the worker an attitude and told him to stay out of it. We ended up just paying it and whatever. As we walked out, she proceeded to tell us "Just f**cking leave". To add to this, during the interaction she proceeded to inform us this was her second time of the day arguing with someone. We absolutely left after we had paid. It's very unfortunate that a restaurant that I have loved going to for the last decade of my life I will no longer be going to. This all occurred because of one rude/nasty interaction with whom I believe to be a newer employee. I truly wonder what happened to the ownership here because the owner's son was always so polite, kind, approachable, and always went out of his way to interact with this customers.
