Really enjoyed dropping in for lunch at La Pizca. We started with the Oaxaca chicken wings, which were crispy, juicy, and had a great Oaxacan spice blend. For my main, I went with the wet blackened shrimp burrito. The shrimp was seasoned perfectly, and it was packed with some really delicious veggies that added a great fresh element. Smothering it in their sauce made it even better. The service was excellent during our afternoon visit. We actually got to meet the chef, who was very kind, welcoming, and clearly puts a lot of care into the food (they also run Corazón Café in SLO). Just passing through town, and Yelp came through for us again! Everything was truly delicious and tasted wonderfully authentic. It reminded me of the first real restaurant meal I had in Mexico. The ingredients were fresh, vibrant, and perfectly seasoned, with plenty of vegetables--not just meat and cheese! (Although the meat and cheese were fantastic too!) The quesadilla description sounded amazing, and it absolutely lived up to the hype. My wife had the plated pork tamale with red sauce, served with seasoned sautéed vegetables, rice, and beans. Everything tasted incredibly fresh, the flavors were rich without being heavy, and the tamale had the perfect texture. Freshly made chips (yum!) and house salsa arrived at the table and were happily refilled when we asked. The service was warm and welcoming, and the owner even stopped by to check on us, which was a nice touch. I saw this place on Nextdoor and it had good reviews so thought we would try it. I agree with some of the comments where is everybody? The chips were fresh and we ate all of them and she brought us more. Normally I'd never keep eating chips, but they were good. They have miscellaneous salsa you can choose from. The food is good and fresh freshly made. They were out of Carnitas except for the taquitos. So my husband and I each had the taquitos cause we wanted Carnitas. They had a little bit of avocado sauce and sour cream sauce would've liked a little bit more. Not a very big menu, some of the specials looked good with steak tacos, etc. Everybody was very friendly and of course, since it wasn't crowded, we didn't have any issues ordering. They had the beers we liked. My husband had a Pacifico and I had a corona. We will be back, I just hope they get a little bit bigger menu and not run out of Carnitas. I have eaten there every week since they opened because everything I tried was spectacular. Others agreed on Next Door and Yelp except a few that actually used the words "it sucked". Now I think I understand. The owner must be off on Tuesdays. The cook (not chef) must have put the protien in the microwave. It was so dried out I could barely chew. The Grande taco was 1 inch larger than normal with the shreaded beef being bland and the "grande"corn tortilla was soggy and could not pick up and eat, could not cut through due to cheese adherance to tortilla. It just shreaded. I do recommend a number of dishes here but not this one, unless you wanted a vegitarian option. This one needs to be re-thought through. Dined here for dinner-they have a very large open dining room and table service. She brought chips and a Smokey salsa to munch on while we decided what to order. We got enchiladas with mole sauce, a chile relleno and tostadas with chicken. The chile relleno can be ordered a la carte or with beans and rice and grilled veggies. We got the relleno and enchilada with the sides and all were wonderful. The mole is quite spicy so be prepared-the chile relleno was the best we've ever had-the tostada was full of grilled veggies including cauliflower and all were wonderful. Staff was very kind, responsive but only one wait staff, so we had to wait a bit. The highlight of the meal was the churros! Wow were they crispy, fresh, with de leche drizzled on top and so delicious. We'd go back just for those. About $14,50 for the enchilada plate or chile relleno which is quite responsible these days. I had a chili relleno that was delicious. The sauce was so tasty and different from your usual. My husband had a quesadilla with chicken. It had homemade tortillas with lots of grilled veggies and delicious chicken. Everything tasted very authentic and definitely different from any other Mexican restaurant. The portions are generous too. The chef came out & talked with us to see how we liked our meal which was an added surprise. This was our first time visiting the restaurant, and we will definitely be returning soon the chef came out to let us know. He had other things prepared in the back, which were not on the menu. Basically, we tasted almost everything that he specially prepared that day I didn't take a picture of it, but he made a yellow posole, which was hands-down one of the best poles I've ever eaten. You didn't need to put any thing on it to make it taste better such as Chile lime cabbages it was perfectly seasoned my whole family enjoyed the meal and we are looking forward to coming back and the waitress and the chef were very welcoming.
