Checking out this Mexican place near us because we don't want to drive too far that day. It was right next to the High Ridge library so even though their parking lot was not that big, we just parked at the library lot and walked over. The decor was pretty typical for Mexican restaurants, so was the food, so it didn't earn or lose any points in my opinion. However, the margarita flights were seriously disappointing. We ordered fruit flavors, like watermelon, mango, berries, etc. The drinks that we got, however, while tasted refreshing, didn't have any fruit flavors and no matter how hard we try, can't really tell which one is which. This is a cute, casual Mexican spot that is definitely good for larger groups. I visited with family (a group of 7, with two small children), and they were able to accommodate us easily for a weeknight dinner. I know that my sister is a big fan of this place, but I was a little less impressed, unfortunately. To begin with, our service was very slow--it wasn't very busy and we experienced some long waits, including waiting probably close to 20 /minutes to get our checks after we finished eating. As for the food, there were mixed reviews. I ordered the enchiladas Marias. They were very dry, even with pouring A LOT of salsa over them. I wouldn't try this dish again. That said a couple of family members ordered burritos, which were GIGANTIC, and they seemed to really enjoy them. The house margarita was pretty good as well, and an excellent value for the size. They have some comfy booths, four top tables, and an additional bar with dining room downstairs, and a downstairs courtyard patio. Dress code is very casual. The Food: La Casona has an extensive menu of Mexican, Tex-Mex, Southwestern, and, most recently, American breakfast favorites. My recommendations are any of the street tacos, especially the al pastor, and the steak fajitas. I also really dig their cantina salsa and fresh chips. Wow $1.50 Taco Tuesday for chicken or beef is a steal. My family went with 6 soft chicken tacos and 2 beef hard tacos. The chicken tacos were my favorite! They do not disappoint for $1.50.... Their queso is also a highlight. Chips are more of a Dorito type that could use a bit of salt but still good quality. The service here is always on par. Plenty of parking for customers to enjoy. I've passed this restaurant many times and always made note to stop by. Today was finally the day. I arrived and was seated quickly. I went in between lunch and dinner so there weren't many people there. They played music and it was quite relaxing. Made for a good atmosphere. Also nice and clean. Anyway - The menu is quite extensive! It took me a long time to decide what I wanted to try. I went with some chicken and cheese enchiladas with a side of rice. (Comes with 2 sides but I wanted double rice.) I feel like I barely waited 10 minutes before food came out. It was very fast and delicious! Their chips and salsa are wonderful as well and the queso - I could swim in. I also ordered a blackberry margarita at the end of my meal thinking it would be small but was shocked to see how huge it was! It was phenomenal though. This is our favorite go to place for great food and great ambiance. They really make you feel like family here. The food is great (get the alambre street tacos. You can thank me later!). The salsa is outstanding. The margaritas are kick your butt good! Be prepared to take your time because they don't rush you, especially if seated downstairs. But I promise it's worth it, or I'll eat my weight in tacos. (I'd do it anyway but...) Oh and parking is super and if you dash to that little gas station right by the restaurant you'll get some of the best coffee you've ever had! And the JeffCo library is right there as well, so you can load up on tacos, coffee, and a good book! read more

Had to come back... Couldn't stop thinking about this place ever since the last visit a little over a month ago. Ordered the three amigos again. Absolutely fantastic! I will say that I do like the pork and the chicken more than the beef but still amazing overall. The chips and salsa are literally my favorite from any Mexican restaurant I've ben to in the StL area, and if you order the white queso as well and mix the two together you will not regret it. Service was stellar, and as far as ambiance, the upstairs is a little plain/ quiet and traditional Mexican restaurant décor, but I'm told the bar downstairs is where all the action is so I will definitely request downstairs next visit. read more

Another update. Visited the other night and noticed the past 3 times we have dined over past couple months that the chips were brought to the table cold and they were pretty hard on the teeth. Not to say they were stale but just harder to crunch through. Food was still top notch as always but the first impression for any Mexican restaurant is their chips and salsa so it was disappointing that this has happened on 3 consecutive visits. Maybe the chip warmer is on the fritz or they have changed something with the chip recipe that has changed their texture?? Still love the food, and the service. Will be back again! read more

First time in. Hubs wanted nachos so we thought we'd try a different place. I know it's been there forever, but it's never really looked overly welcoming. Tonight was the night. We walked in and were greeted right away and sat down. The server came over right away and took our drink order. I tried the Sangarita. It's half housemade Sangria and half Margarita. Very refreshing! Fresh apples, an orange and a cherry. Hubs had the chicken fajitas, I had the Pollo Cancun (chicken w/ shrimp, onions, peppers and cheese sauce.) Daughter decided to join at the last minute, we ordered for her. Chicken Quesadillas. The server was super pleasant and helpful. All in all it was a nice experience. We'd go back for sure! LaCasona is a great little neighborhood place with better than average Mexican food. I specifically like the pan fried tacos.

I was very disappointed when we went there again. Food was ok, pricing has went up considerably. I got the shrimp and crab enchiladas and there was no whole shrimp or crab meat. It looked like over processed tuna from a can. 18.00 I was thinking when we went in that there was a new owner, everything inside had changed it truly didn't feel like a Mexican restaurant anymore. This place just gets better each time I visit. The enchilada sauce is amazing! The nachos were just right amount of crispy, and the steak taco shell was grilled slightly and such a nice surprise. Was very disappointed. Place seemed dirty. The table we sat at was by a window and about half way thru dinner realized there was a huge cob web running from the window to the window sill and flapping up and down when the air conditioner blew. Servers were pleasant and semi attentive. Food was very bland, and not much of it. I ordered the fajitas with rice and beans. The plate had maybe a 1/8 cup of rice, and the beans maybe a serving spoon full with a quarter size of cheese on top. Fajitas were not sizzling when they came out and the meat was cold before I could eat two tortillas. Tasted like they had no seasoning on them.. Last tortilla had a large hole in it. Stopped here by accident! The husband & I were trying to go to the place up the hill but couldn't exactly find great parking for a truck & trailer. Came down from the stop sign and here there was a large, open parking lot! Great for us having to park a car, truck & trailer! We were quickly seated, our waitress came right over to take our drink order and chips and salsa were delivered. Chips were warm and salsa was cold. The salsa was a little bland, we asked if they had another spicy salsa & the waitress so no. It would be nice if they offered up another if you requested, but we made due & added some green hot sauce to kick it up a notch. Not being from around the area, we asked the waitress what she'd recommend and she said she doesn't like spicy food and hasn't eaten much but would recommend the fajitas.... which are basic, in our opinion. So we continued to explore the menu where we found Authentic Mexican tacos! We ordered an appetizer of Ceviche, tacos Nortenos and al pastor. The ceviche came out quick & taste was good. It was served on a tostada w/lime wedges. I've yet to find it on a menu before so I'm not sure where that ranks, but we really enjoyed it. Then out came out tacos with green sauce, rice & beans on the side. We quickly bit into those, and yum! We ended up ordering some sour cream for them and that made them even better (and helped cool down our hot mouths, because of our kicked up salsa & the green sauce). Al pastor comes with pineapple, onion & cilantro and the only downside was after the first 2 tacos I had used most of that up, since it came piled on all the tacos but mostly in the middle. Husband said the same with his, used up the onions & cilantro after the first 2. The rice and beans were good too! We've been to many Mexican restaurants where the rice is dried up and old but it has nice texture and flavor. Beans were good too! Overall really good food! I'd recommend that the waitress ask others what's good and then when newbies like us come in, she could ask well "do you like spicy, traditional, etc" and then find a few great plates to recommend. Maybe she was new and didn't quite know yet. How you greet and treat people really makes or breaks the dining experience. A little more onions & cilantro and a little more enthusiasm & knowledge from the waitress and this would have been a 5-star review!! read more

If I could give no stars, I would. Had the worst service and slowest waitress ever there tonight! The manager did not seem to care. First, it took forever to even get our drinks. Refills did not come out in a timely manner and only after multiple reminders. By the time the food came out, we were not even hungry anymore. 3 fajita orders with NO tortillas brought out! We had to ask for them. Wrong tacos brought out and had to be returned for the right ones. Missing toppings on 2 of the orders. And 1 order finally came out when all others were finished eating. Unfortunately, that was not even edible due to being burnt and was sent back. When the skillet was picked up there was sour cream and guacamole all over the bottom of skillet and a pile left on the table. Neither were ingredients for the meal! When speaking with the manager, she did not appear to care or even act sincere. The inedible meal was taken off bill but only a dollar discount on the other order with multiple mess ups. This restaurant used to be good but has REALLY gone down hill. Sorry we went to this restaurant tonight vs waiting at the one in House Springs!! Left extremely disappointed!!! read more

After living in High Ridge for 20+ years, we finally decided to try La Casona. We normally go to Que Pasa but thought we would give this place a try. As we rated, it's A-OK. Pros: Food and margaritas were very good. Cons: Quite a few. 1. The website and facebook page are outdated. We went there and tried to order the specials and were told that they don't have them anymore. We showed them what we found and they said they didn't know. 2. The portions are much smaller than Que Pasa. MUCH smaller. And if you want more than one basket of chips and salsa, it will cost you $1 per basket. 3. Service was very slow and the restaurant was not crowded at all. Again, the food was good but we certainly didn't feel like we got our money's worth. We will stick with Que Pasa. read more
