Absolutely amazing street tacos! Chips and salsa aren't included but order some chips and white cheese dip, they'll bring salsa with it & it's delicious! Hadn't eaten here in quite some time. I always say I loved it more when it was just a hut. We sat inside because it was a hot day. I ordered 2 chicken tamales with beans and rice and guac and chips. Everything was missing flavor. How could this be with Mexican food? I grabbed salt and limes to help the guac. It tasted like smashed avocados. It was fresh. The beans and rice lacked flavor. It originally opened in June 2003 as an ice cream shop, but has since evolved into a full-fledged restaurant and bar. I got the shrimp fajita bowl and it was nothing short of spectacular. The shrimp was perfectly cooked, perfectly spiced, and was accompanied by a generous array of fresh vegetables and toppings. The portions were huge. You won't leave this spot hungry. We stopped by La Vallesana right when they opened on a Sunday. Parking is street only, but is relatively easy to find. The restaurant is essentially self-serve-- you order at the counter, provide a phone number, and they text you to grab it when your food is ready on a tray. They have outdoor and indoor seating as well. We love the tacos and the burritos here! I particularly enjoy the wide variety of meats they have and everything is very flavorful (especially with the flavored rice in the burritos). The red salsa was a bit too smoky for us, but we enjoyed the freshness of the green salsa. They recently raised their prices but everything is still relatively affordable ($3.25 per taco, $10 per burrito). You can also order online and pickup from their website. Only downside is they don't provide you with water, so either bring a water bottle or be prepared to go thirsty if you don't want to purchase a drink! read more

So good! I was trying to force my boyfriend to try somewhere new for both of us (he's always hesitant) and he finally caved and we weren't disappointed! I visited La Vallesana on a Friday night. Before the pandemic, this used to be one of my favorite Mexican restaurants in St. Louis. However, the pandemic understandably forced many businesses to change up their model, and la Vallesana just isn't what it was before. The food here isn't bad. However, it is nothing to rave about, and the prices are a bit higher than you would get at nearby Mexican restaurants. I ordered a torta de cabeza, which was relatively small and the bread was a bit dry. You can get a much better and cheaper torta across the street at El Torito or Latinoamericana. It is also pricey considering that post-pandemic, La Vallesana has moved to a bit of a self-service model. You order at the counter, and you get a text when you can pick up your food. You're paying a lot for very little food and service. They do carry house-made ice cream and popsicles, which are delicious! I especially like the pistachio ice cream from Vallesana. All things considered, there are much better Mexican restaurants on Cherokee for the price. read more

Came on a weekday and was surprised that there was quite a bit of people here. - Tacos Surpemo - Basically just meat, lettuce, cheese, and tomato. We tried to order three different types of meat, but they only gave us the steak. I wish the tacos was a little bit more wet because the tortilla seems kind of dry. - Fajitas Quesadilla (Steak) - I actually really enjoyed the quesadilla. The steak was actually really tender and I appreciate how much sour cream they put into each one. Overall pretty good food and definitely recommend coming to get the quesadilla. Their menu is quite expensive and offers a number of vegetarian options like a vegetarian fajitas, taco salad, and mushroom quesadilla. Every dish pretty much comes with chips so don't feel obligated to order a separate order with guacamole or salsa. The staff are friendly and have a open bar to make margaritas. Food is INCREDIBLE!!! Especially the Carnitas. The red sauce is good but very smokey. The avocado salsa is the real star of the show. They will also make any cocktail of your choice in a pineapple which is a unique and fun experience. However, the layout of the restaurant is a little challenging. You walk in and immediately face a register without having time to look at the menu. This was quite possibly the worst dining experience of my adult life. If you sit outside, they make you use a QR code to order from a menu with no photos or descriptions of the food. I suspect this is because they're just going to give you whatever they have lying around anyway. I was served old dried up meat in a tortilla shell that I would feel uncomfortable feeding to a stray dog. I ordered a $25 "premium drink" that was made improperly.... Not even close to what was ordered.. and clearly not made with premium alcohol. This was after the bartender sat there playing on his phone for 8 minutes instead of making our order and we had to walk up and directly ask them to please serve us our drinks (we had tickets to an event starting). Everything about this place screams: it's time for a health code inspection. I am shocked that we accept this level of food service in St. Louis. My go to is a little place down the street but decided to try a new place. I have eaten here before but it was years ago. Everything is allá carte, and you order from the counter then find a seat. The food menu is located front and enter, but if you want a drink you have to search for the drink menu, posted in a wall kinda in a corner, on opposite side, behind you. They have two drink sizes for margaritas, 16 and 32oz. The drinks are way overpriced for what you get. There was a curly hair guy behind the counter who greeted us and was very nice. He took our order and let us know we'd get a text when the food was ready. We took two seats at the bar/window seats. Our drinks were ready right away and were sat in a little cubby area by the cashiers. I'm pretty sure they were premade margaritas. A 16oz costs $10!!! If I'm paying $10 for a 16oz drink in a little Sysco cup then it better do the job. As I suspected, it did not. I'm not sure how much hornitos tequila was in the drink but I'm guessing very little. The food came out quickly and was pretty good. I ordered pastor tacos and queso and chips. The queso was a weird yellow color. I'm guessing they just pour a can of nacho cheese in a bowl, heat and serve. It was watery. For that I was charged $8!!!!! The two stars are for the tacos and the friendly worker. I will not go back. This place happens to be a good friend of mine's favorite Mexican place. She raves about it all the time so I figured I'd give it a shot. Started with their guacamole which was fresh and also served with warm tortilla chips. I then had some of their chicken tacos which came with cilantro & onions and two types of salsas. The chicken, very tasty and they came on corn tortillas. Along with this I had their fajita chicken quesadilla, which was cooked perfect and the veggies real delicious. Can't go without getting a margarita right? I went with their frozen passion fruit marg which partnered very well with my meal.
