Cafe de Olla! highly recommend
Kyla K.

I fell in love with cafe de olla the first time I had it. When I shared my love with others, I was told that La Catedral has excellent cafe de olla. It's true! The host was friendly, the ambience was colorful, and the coffee AND food was delicious. I would definitely recommend!!

Cajeta latte

A+ food and service from the team at Catedral! Came with my parents, aunt, and grandma for a late lunch. This was a recommendation from my girlfriend and her mother so I had to check it out. Walking in for a late lunch, we didn't realize the restaurant was about to close. The staff were very kind to still set up a separate table and serve us while cleaning up and closing the rest of the venue. Phenomenal hospitality on their part. The food itself was also amazing. They serve HUGE cups of coffee. Good quality coffee and lots of it is certainly well appreciated. I had the cajeta latte which as delicious. For food I had the chilaquiles verdes with cecina, guac, and tres leches cake. The chilaquiles were perfect! Great flavor to the sauce and perfect texture. I would absolutely recommend this venue to anyone looking for good breakfast food. For being a religious themed restaurant, it certainly is a blessing to the neighborhoods and people that attend their locations throughout Chicago.

Terrible tasting boiled ground beef tasting torta with random nerve and fat meatballs
Jacqueline F.

I ordered a torta de asada and the meat was pretty disgusting. First it was cut like ground beef so tiny meat morsels but also they threw in some giant meatball size ones that were all fat and nerves. No Jalapeño no avocado just a ton of onion. I had the torta on 3 different occasions and picky the first time did it seem edible. Will not give them another try. Chillaquilles are all htpe and frankly too expensive for tortillas salsa and eggs. Empezaron bien pero ya es in asco.

Mixchata

I highly recommend La Catedral they have a variety of food my personal favorites are las enfrijoladas poblano chilaquiles, veggie omelet arroz de leche crepes and don't forget to try their Cafe de olla

Chilaquiles verdes con pollo

We came here to celebrate my dad's birthday. The staff was very welcoming from beginning to end. We got there at around 11:30 am on Saturday and the wait was about 20 minutes. I had the chilaquiles verdes with chicken and cecina. It's my go to. HOWEVER, my mom ordered the birria chilaquiles and omggggg so good. You definitely need to try because it'll be my new go to. So good and not spicy. The room we were in was really perfect for 7 people but 12-13 could have fit, so they are able to accommodate large parties.

Mole con pollo

What a lovely building and amazing location! La Cathedral is more than a cafe and this establishment does an amazing job of showing that. My friend and I decided to get brunch here and we knew we were in the right place when there was a waitlist. After a 15- minute wait we were seated and services immediately. The staff is polite and even with small language barriers they did a wonderful job of communicating with my friend and I. I greatly appreciated the staff for that. We ordered two orders of Mole con pollo and the wait was maybeeeee 10 minutes. No joke. The food was hot and fresh. My first impression of the food was that the chicken would've been mole, not the chips. The chicken gave more chicken tinga than mole but I guess I was to put it on top. The mole was more so spicy which I loved but my friend wanted it more mild. We weren't sure which mole we were getting with the abundance of varieties but she still enjoyed it. We know for sure we will be returning!

Strawberry waffle w/o strawberry syrup

There was a lot of staff that helped out with seating us, taking our orders, and bringing the food. The food was alright, the cafe de olla was good - but overly sweet, and the waffles were very stale. If I came again, I would have to try different menu items. It is very nicely decorated and spacious inside, seems like they are very accommodating to larger parties, as many people were there enjoying their breakfast.

I had a fantastic plate of chipotle chilaquiles - smoky, perfectly spicy, with tender, savory chicken that hit all the right notes. The Coffee De Alo was a sweet, smooth finish to the meal, balancing the spice beautifully. Wouldn't change a thing! Highly recommend. The restaurant is beautiful and great for large groups.

Large cafe de olla

Came to try the 2nd location since I figured there wouldn't be as long as wait and that was true. This new place is super cute as spacious. I got the chilaquiles verdes, unfortunately they were quite salty. Not spicy either so if you like spice then verdes are not for you. Rice was salty as well. Meat was good. It is pricey but I think that's how most places are now a days. Drinks were delicious though. La catedral has always been my favorite place to get breakfast/brunch, I'm not sure if it was an off day so I'll definitely come back to try another dish again. I remember the sweet dishes to be very good.

I recently visited the new location in Chicago and it did not disappoint! They have lots of free parking near by. The location is big and you don't have to wait as long as the original in little village. I always get the chilaquiles, which in my opinion are the very best in Chicago. Today I decided to venture out and try the Pamela panini with strawberry salad. It was a light, delicious lunch. The cafe de olla is a must!! And I also tried this corn dessert that was too die for!! Our waiter delfo was amazing and funny. I would come back just to visit him. It's also decorated so beautifully. 10/10

The place is small with a hard time to walk around when it's full. It's a nice bar restaurant and didn't realized until we were leaving that there's a back area. The bartenders could be a little more social and happy bc that seem a bit dull and unhappy working there. Unlike Martin he was happy. Mildred was our server and she did phenomenal. We stood at the door for about 20 minutes before someone finally told us the wait would be 1-2 hours. Keep in mind, the place is pretty small and already crowded, so there's barely any room to stand while you wait. After getting on the waitlist, we decided to go to a nearby spot for food--but not even 5 minutes later, we got called back saying our table was ready. When we returned, we were seated along the wall in a very tight space--so tight that if I stretched my arm out, I would've hit the person next to me. We noticed a large table nearby had been sitting for a while without food. When their food finally came out, it made us realize our wait would probably be even longer. After another 20 minutes passed and we still hadn't been able to order, we decided to leave. I'm not sure the space is fully ready for the rush right now--it feels overcrowded and service is slow. I'll give it another try once the hype dies down. I'm happy for their success, though--just be prepared to be patient when you go.

Starting with margaritas (because obviously ‍), queso and chips that were dangerously good, and the chicken empanadas that came out perfectly crispy with so much flavor. We kept looking at each other after every bite like "okay wait... THIS is the best thing here" and then another plate would arrive and prove us wrong again The carnitas fried rice??? I genuinely cannot stop thinking about it. So savory, flavorful, comforting, and packed with crispy carnitas on top with the eggs and pickled onions... literally unreal. And then the skirt steak tacos absolutely stole the show. The steak was cooked perfectly, packed with flavor, and paired so perfectly with all the toppings and sauces. Every single bite tasted fresh and homemade in the best way possible. And can we talk about the ambience for a second because WOW. The music, the energy, the vibe inside, everyone celebrating, the drinks flowing -- it felt like the perfect Cinco de Mayo dinner spot. The service was also AMAZING from start to finish and made the entire experience even better. One of those dinners where you leave already talking about when you're coming back If you're looking for the place to celebrate Cinco de Mayo, date night, tacos & margaritas, or honestly just an incredible dinner in general... this is IT

The atmosphere is easily for dates, friend outings, after work outings etc. The restaurant decor is nice. It puts you in the mind of a European garden. There is no parking but a garage across the street along with metered Street parking. Beware parking cost $46 for about 2.5 hrs. The food bill was $141, way too expensive for tacos and a few margaritas. I will pass on this place.

Appetizers were quac and chips, and shrimp ceviche. The guac was really good, but the ceviche was the star. Served on a bed of cucumbers, it was visually beautiful, and the flavor was fresh and complex. There was also a LOT of it. We ended up taking some home. Entrees were steak and shrimp for me, and Tampiquena for my friend. In both dishes, the steak was done to perfection. The sauce that came with my shrimp was spicy and deep--lots of flavor layers there. Both of us took home portions of our meals because there was a lot of food on the plates. Finally, the service--the servers are attentive without hovering. If we needed something, they were there, but never intrusive. It is hard to believe this is a little neighborhood spot, given the service and the quality of the food. It was not too busy tonight--we ate early--but I recommend reservations. It is very popular with the neighborhood. Bottom line, we each had 2 margaritas, appetizers, and entrees, and our bills with tip were around $105.00 each--totally worth it!
