We were in the area and starving! We decided to try La Catrina. So glad we chose this restaurant. The service and food were amazing! My husband had the enchiladas and I had the tacos duros. Both dishes were fantastic. You can tell everything is made from scratch and everything is very fresh! The place is very clean and I love all the colorful art. Being in New Hampshire I didn't expect much. This is definitely not El Paso, Texas. The female server was very nice. The tamales were nasty full masa little chicken very little flavor covered in a red sauce. A man was argumentative with me after telling him what was wrong with the meal I assumed he was the manager. OMG! This place is fantastic! From the margarita to dinner to dessert, it was wonderful. Diana was our waitress and she was so attentive and sweet- we felt right at home. Mango margarita, tacos Al Carbon, Mexican combination plate and an incredible flan were all the best ever! Even the salsa is delicious with some spice and great flavor. This was my first and only time coming, so I can't speak to the rest of the menu, but the tinga poblana was truly incredible. I am biased to my wife's Brazilian culinary excellence, so imagine my surprise that I find comparable food in a town I grew up in 20 years ago. The food is to die for, the service is friendly and the atmosphere is laid back. The kids meal is, as we speak, being devoured by a picky 2 year old. My fiancé and I decided to try this place out one day. It was a mixture of emotions. The tables were extremely sticky, which was a little off putting. That aside, I order a water and my fiancé orders an iced tea. My water straight up tasted like sewage. I have not tasted sewage, but I've smelled it. I was really nervous for the food after that. It was a bit of a wait and we were the only ones there. I don't mind waiting, especially in these times with lack of help. It was just strange how long it took. When our orders came out it was cold. With how long it took, one would think the food would be hot. I'm not one to say something when there is a problem. Looking back now, I know I should have. The food was very tasty, but was not hot at all. Not even warm. Between the water, and the cold entrees, we will not be back. read more

This is the perfect example of why some people, though they may have good intentions, simply shouldn't open a restaurant. I've eaten at a lot of very good, authentic mexican restaurants and while this review is obviously very critical, it doesn't come out of left field. We stopped in on a Friday night on the way home from Santa's village. Place was just about empty (bad sign #1), but we were starving and needed to eat. Despite lack of customers, service was snail-slow at best (if not completely incompetent). After a noticeable wait, chips and salsa came out; both were obviously from a bag/jar respectively (bad sign #2). The chips weren't even warm, which might've save them being from a bag. Upon reviewing the menu, my eyes popped out of my head as all menu items were exorbitantly overpriced, though we weren't leaving considering the time and our travels ahead. The kids got 2 tacos and fries for $8 each. TONS of meat, but little to no flavor, fries were out of a frozen food bag, and again shells were obv. not homemade and were cold/borderline stale. My wife got the soft tacos ($15 for 3 soft tacos with hamburger!!!), which she said were "fine." I asked the waiter what he considered the best pork dish and the best chicken dishes. After only explaining that some dishes are "shredded chicken" and others are "cooked chicken" I skipped considering those; though to be fair, I believe English was his second language. He then pointed to the carnitas as their best pork dish. At $19 I was skeptical, but figured "how could they mess these up if they are their best dish'?." I've made carnitas at home more than a few times, and if that's their best dish, they should consider hiring a new chef and/or closing their doors. What I got was INCREDIBLY bland, grey chunks of pork, some with obvious large pieces of fat still on said chunks. These were not shredded and they were certainly not cooked on a flat top to get the nice crispy bits that presumably most would look for in this dish. The meat was cooked fine otherwise, but had almost no flavor; I wouldn't be surprised if they told me zero spices - including salt and pepper - were used in this dish. Beyond that, they gave 3 cold (again) tortillas, which were obviously not enough to house the portion of pork they gave. There was no salsa, hot sauce, or limes with the dish, or on the table, for me to doctor these up with flavor or to make to my liking. The rice and beans were adequate at best. The lone saving grace was the pico de gallo which was obviously fresh and had a kick. Beyond the issues with the food, there was a table situated literally right in front of the men's room door; the 3 waiters seemed to rotate between waiting tables, cleaning, and tending bar with zero semblance of organization; they dried dishes/glasses on top of the bar with the dishwasher rack just sitting there in plain sight; I watched them clean the bar top with window cleaner; and finally I watched someone in the kitchen (maybe the chef/cook?) just sitting there on a chair right next to the kitchen doors messing around on his phone the entire time. Maybe we caught them on a bad night, but this was one of the worst restaurant experiences of my life. Anyone who thinks this is good, authentic mexican food should go to a legit restaurant and experience the real thing. I'd rate this as well below chain-quality. Everyone working there seemed very kind and genuinely nice, but this was so beyond disappointing, especially at the outrageous prices. I wish these nice folks the best of luck - they certainly need it. read more

The chicken quesadilla with a green sauce was the best quesadilla I have ever had. I've had two shrimp dishes that were delicious. The shrimp large and succulent. Save room for the fried ice cream!!! living in NH Plymouth area you dont find much culture when it comes to food so it was nice when i saw this place open in Ashland. The prices are high but WORTH IT the Carnitas remind me of home growing up in Providence RI where theres a taco shop every corner. So so very good. We went in for lunch and thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience. This restaurant is beautifully decorated and they put much care into the food they serve and it shows. The chips are crispy but not too salty. The salsa is authentic and tasty. For lunch my hubby ordered chimichangas with beef and he enjoyed them. They came with a generous helping of fresh guacamole on the side. My son and I are both vegan. He ordered veggie fajitas and I ordered a burrito with rice beans guacamole and tomatillo sauce. The burrito came with the tortilla a little crisped up, and it was great but I needed more heat so I asked for hot sauce on the side. That made it prefect. It was too large to finish for lunch so I brought half home. The fajitas were also great - so many vegetables: broccoli and peppers and onions and zucchini. It also came with rice, refried beans, and a generous side of fresh guacamole. We brought more than half the veggies home and will definitely be making wraps with the leftovers. We ordered chicken quesadilla to go for my other son. When we got home we found xtra chips and salsa in the bag. We are here on vacation til Friday and we will definitely be back! read more
