Ordered the escargots, Dover sole, and soufflé. I really enjoyed the sole. The fish was cooked perfectly and was very moist and flavorful. The escargot and soufflé were pretty tasty too. My only complaint was the old fashioned I ordered. It was small and watered down. Other than that, it was a fine experience.

Everything here is wonderful. From the food to the service to the overall vibes I loved this place. All the food is spectacular and the service is the friendliest. A great Georgetown spot!

This was my first time here and my husband hadn't been here in over 20 years as we live out of state. But the fact that this restaurant has been here 50 years and survived the Plandemic certainly says a lot! We would highly recommend it. The atmosphere is very cozy and it's likely you'll be sitting close enough to others to overhear their conversation. But it's a small space so they are doing the best they can. If you're looking for a more private dining option pick somewhere different but risk not having food as good as La Chaumiere. We started with soup, Lobster Bisque and French Onion. Bread and butter were also provided. Both soups were very good but be aware that the bisque does not contain lobster meat. I tend to like the places that place meat in the bottom of the bowl and pour the soup over it so you know you're getting a spoonful or two of meat. I realize not all recipes include that so I'm just making mention in case that's important to you. Otherwise, both soups were delicious. I had the salmon in puffed pastry with dill sauce. It's a bit like the idea of beef Wellington but with salmon. I loved it! And the green beans and carrots were served slightly crunchy which is exactly how I prefer them. My dish also included mashed potatoes so there was no need for another side item (besides my soup). My husband had the 14-oz Ribeye which was a special and not listed on the menu. It was $68 and included some greens and potatoes. The side sauce (not sure if it was butter or Mayo-based) had a delicious tarragon flavor. He said the steak was cooked to his liking and he gave it an "A" which is quite rare for him to do. And I forgot to mention, service was impeccable. Overall, go try this place!

Never disappoint. We visited here again before Thanksgiving. We loved the environment and the service as usual. The food is classic. Honestly, if you want classic traditional French food in DC area, this is the place to go. Also, my brother ordered a special veal kidney. It was great. If you want to try some new ingredients, try it here. That your chance and you might get some new experience.

First I want to give a compliment to our server Philippe! He was absolutely wonderful and definitely made our experience memorable. The food was very good! My favorite was the French onion soup for the appetizer, super flavorful! We went for my sisters birthday and it was pretty packed so definitely make reservations. Enjoy this little taste of France!

A group of us had dinner here while in town for a meeting; we were celebrating the birthday of one in our group as well and so wanted to go somewhere nice. This was perfect! Two of us shared the Foie gras as a first course and it was rich and delicious. I enjoyed the trout for my entree and the accompanying potatoes and vegetable went nicely with the sweet, perfectly cooked fish. We shared some excellent wine and also shared an assortment of soufflés for dessert. The soufflés were delicious. Service was excellent and the upstairs room where we were seated was quite and relaxed. Truly a wonderful option for classic French fare in Georgetown!

Old country charm at the edge of Georgetown this place has all the components of a place that received a Michelin Star. A few updates and attentions to detail could get this place a solid 4 Star Review. I was treated to a birthday dinner hear on a chilly December evening. The dining room centers around a small harth in the center of the dinning room with a small fire warming the room. The space is a buzz with wait staff and bussers that are clearing tables and filling waters; but with as many tables set-up as possible the space verges on claustrophobic. It also didn't help that we were seated near the kitchen door meaning all of the action had to breeze past our table. You can tell that many locals come back to this place and are given two coveted tables/booths in the back, we saw several older couples/friends roll in, have 1 or 2 items and a drink, and roll out over the course of our dinner. I love that support of a place by the community. No bar seating means wine and cocktails might come out slower. Indeed, much of the service seemed slower at the peak of dinner, which was at odds with the fully staffed dinning room. The low number of restrooms was also a challenge in such a large/fully booked place. Now onto the food. Rustic French staples like Foi Gras served with toast, Roasted Oysters with herb butter were perfectly seasoned and came with extra bread for soaping up every drop of butter. The fish in the Trout Almandine was perfectly succulent and the Seafood Bouillabaisse was served with hearty portions of delicious fish. The beef dish (can't remember exact name) was also cooked perfectly medium and smoothened in a well seasoned jus. The price is very Georgetown but the quality is there. Maybe a calmer evening would let the true charm of this place shine but the bones are good!

We went for dinner here with my bf's family, who happen to eat here whenever they are in DC. Our party of 6 was taken upstairs for the seating. Service was quick and attentive, making sure we had our drinks in order. I tried an espresso martini that was delicious. For my app, I got the lobster bisque, which hit the spot on a cold winter night. My main was a stuffed pheasant with bokchoy and mushrooms and was one of the specials of the night. Never had pheasant before, so I didn't know what to expect, but it was ten, er and the sauce was salty and complex. My boyfriend enjoyed the soup du jour, which was a parsnip soup and a red snapper that was also a special of the day. I do think the trout Amandine is popular as 3 people in our party got it and thoroughly enjoyed it.

Celebrated my birthday here a few nights ago and I have to say the food tasted impeccable! Our server was also very attentive. Our food was brought out in a timely manner, over all I can't complain about anything! The ambiance is European cozy, the prices are on the higher bracket but the taste makes up for it!

We were sat in the solarium area, and it was during the heat dome, and it was really warm in there. Otherwise, though, it's completely charming inside and reminds us of some of the best French bistros we've been to in the country (e.g. Balzathar, Le Supreme). The three cocktails we tried--the frose, le jardin, and the clouseau--were all stunners. And of course the bread deserves another special mention, *especially* the room temperature butter. Thank you for not serving hard as hell butter! We shared the warm shrimp salad to start, and for $31, we were expecting more than a few avocado slices and 4 shrimp on it, but c'est la vie. The dressing was incredible, and the greens were crunchy. That's actually the only dish of the night that we thought was unfairly overpriced. One of us ordered the burger and the other got the rabbit pappardelle--you've got to get rabbit when you see it on a menu, which isn't often enough! There was a good amount of super tender meat and the pasta was perfectly al dente, all in a lightly stunning sauce. Chef's kiss. The burger was, no surprise, another triumph. There was juicy meat, bun integrity, and all the right accouterment notes. The fries are standard. Our daughter got their mac-n-cheese, which is probably just the gratin dish renamed. It was OK. We kind of got out of control for dessert and ordered the pot de creme, the cookie dough ice cream, and the profiteroles. Honestly, these were all good, but nothing that stood out as exemplary as with the savory stuff. Our only major complaint was the service. It was really spotty and while there was a very, very long gap in between when we got our water and then put in our drinks, but our mains came out almost directly after the salad. And the guy was just not very hospitable. Not necessarily a "bad" experience...it just could have been a lot better. Four stars, and we have already declared that we will be back again to "The Dip" because there is so much else on the menu that we want to try.

Dispelling the myth that French cuisine is pretentious, we felt like we were in a home, and that we would be fed full to the brim. Came in while it was packed late into the night. We were sat immediately and had a wonderful time. Our waitresses were patient and had great recommendations for our first time trying French food. They seem incredibly experienced and added comfort in the way they spoke to their customers and ran their tables. We were even greeted by the owner who was great and cheery to each table he visited. The one night we went, it was incredibly packed with people having intimate, lighthearted, and laughter-filled gatherings, tables with multiple rounds of wine, everyone sharing their fries, and so he should feel proud of this place. Touches like this made it as though we were dining in someone's house. And I love that they start you off generously with bread and butter. Its a type of french loaf that is nice and fluffy, and I'd recommend setting some on the side if you're ordering a brothy dish. We ordered Moules Marinières, which came in a delightfully large cauldron of juicy plump clean muscles swimming in an herbaceous-garlicky white wine sauce. Unassumable from the simplicity of ingredients they threw together, but incredibly complex in flavor. This is one of the few times I actually tasted bay leaf, and amongst the fewer times I found the use of rosemary not be so overpowering. The mussel liquor at the bottom was perfect when soaked up in bread. What an incredible dish. We also tried a classic, Le Steak Maison, which was also distinctively flavorful. Our steak had a perfect cook at medium rare, and was uniquely seasoned with some sort of blend of herbes de provence. The fries were pretty standard and substantial, but paired with the Béarnaise sauce, it was such a tangy play of richness and acidity. Again really simple ingredients just executed so well. Great job, looking forward to coming again to try more on this large menu.
