Eating here right now. I have been to La Choza many times, starting in the early 2000s. This is my favorite restaurant on Cozumel. It was great then and remains great now. Two blocks from the shore downtown, with top notch food and drinks. The restaurant is casual and service is friendly. A guitarist was present to serenade us today. I loved La Choza. It was easy to get to and the nachos we had were the most delicious, packed nachos! We found out we weren't as hungry as we thought after devouring an entire thing of chips with their delicious dipping sauce and way too many awesome nachos! We ordered the chicken fajitas to share and also enjoyed those. They were flavorful and delicious. There was plenty for each of us to share and I put some of the chip sauce on there to give it some extra great flavor. The prices were good as we enjoyed a few Dos Equis with dinner and left feeling like we got a deal. We will be back here again to try some more food and beers! It was great!!! WiFi too :) read more

This was our third time to La Choza. They do a really nice job. Still in the throngs of COVID they have ample cleaning and hand-sanitizing. It is open air with great circulation. A permanent hand washing station is present within the restaurant. Great food and drink! Classic lime margaritas are perfect. Guac that is excellent, and also enjoyed the ceviche too! Chicken fajitas very nice. The Aztec soup.....is a must do! Servers and management are very friendly and attentive. We very much w joyed the hospitality.....as we have in visits past! Dined on Feb 18, 2024 and the chili relleno came out cold. Chili rellenos are served hot with the melted cheese spilling out, so I sent it back. I figured the kitchen would microwave it or make a new one but the wait staff never checked back while my party ate their meals. I asked my waiter for my food or the check, twice, but the waiter seemed too busy to do either. Could've been a language barrier. So I asked the manager if my food was coming, he said the microwave died so no chili rellenos for the night. He did apologize and asked if I wanted food but it was time to leave. The manager gave me the check which did remove my order, we left and I grabbed tacos elsewhere. read more

We ate at La Choza twice on our trip to Cozumel. Upon entering, the restaurant is very spacious and clean. There is plenty of helpful staff ensuring the guests are taken care of! They were great. The food both times was extremely delicious. Try the horchata when you stop by as well. The restaurant is close to town but does not feel like a tourist location either. A friend recommended I come here for Mexican food and Margaritas. We usually don't venture out of our resort, but I wanted some seafood. I read reviews on this restaurant and asked resort employees about it, they all gave me positive feedback. We had dinner here last night and it was delicious! The chips and dips were addicting. Green and orange sauce with their chips! We ordered lobster kabob and a fried snapper to share and those dishes were enough to put us in a food coma. Snapper was unbelievably crisp and perfect! My husband had a margarita and I had a pina colada, the drinks were very good. I had such a great experience that we will be coming back on our next Cozumel trip! The food was not bad but I can't really say it was good. I am giving this spot a 2 because I feel that it is just another unauthentic, mediocre restaurant in touristy Cozumel; I don't want others to come here when I feel they can have a more authentic experience a block or two away. I'll start of with the good. The decor and set up of the restaurant was very nice. The front wall of the establishment was open, so it was like you were sitting on the front porch. There were also plants and paintings all around, even a water fountain; very nice. The service was not bad but it definately was not good, but I did get a chance to interact with someone who seemed to be a manager. He was made up for it, he made sure that I as a was taken care of as a customer. As soon as we entered, they placed the complimentary chips on our table. But rather than salsa, it was a spice cream base dip that I did not care for; later on in the meal, I added it to my entree and it was a good compliment to the dish ( only because it was the only element of spice available) but as a dip for chips, not strong/ good enough. I then ordered a mango margarita. It tasted like an artificial smoothie mix, chalky; but I did taste tequila. I ordered the fajitas because I wanted something with tortillas and the waiter says that was the most authentic option. I've had much better fajitas in the states. And it is not as if the fajitas tasted different, like I was eating something I was not familiar with so I didn't like it, they tasted like fajitas I've had before just not as good. Nothing was memorable ( except the pile of onions they threw on top of my chicken that just didn't work well with the dish). I was slightly surprised by my experience because of some of the good Yelp reviews. But I will say it looks like a number of the reviews were referring to seafood dishes that the restaurant offered, so that might have been the authentic options they have. But regardless I feel as if you have a restaurant that makes one genre of food, if you want to be classified as authentic, good food you should have a variety of authentic dishes. read more

I absolutely loved coming here for dinner! The ambiance was very nice and clean. We were sat immediately upon arriving around 6pm and had amazing service! They start you with homemade chips and a chipotle-like dip. The guacamole was chunky and flavorful, and the pico de Gallo was great as well. I had a frozen margarita with no added flavoring, but you can get mango, strawberry, etc. The marg was great and not too sweet! I selected the veggie fajitas with cheese on top for my entree, and we were also given the choice between two soup options (Lima bean or chicken noodle soup) and they both were good. I also really enjoyed the fact that they had fans throughout the restaurant that kept it nice and cool. I would truly recommend coming here when visiting downtown Cozumel! read more

Wow! Amazing when you get to try authenticin the actual country. The client suggested this location and we all enjoyed the amazing food. The queso was like no other queso I ever had. The guacamole was also so fresh and the flavor was off the chart. I had the chicken quesadilla which came with a side of guacamole and refried beans. The staff are very friendly, some speak English & Spanish both while some other speak a little English. Open air atmosphere is a plus. Very clean restaurant. I highly recommend this place when visiting Cozumel Mexico. It's only about 5 minutes via Taxi from the cruise port. Dont miss the Avocado pie, amazing!!! read more

My husband and I popped into La Choza for lunch on a Saturday afternoon in Cozumel. The restaurant was super busy and service was a little spread thin. We didn't get a whole lot of attention but we still enjoyed our ice cold beers and food. They start you off with complimentary chips and a dip that I thought was a little strange, quite honestly. It tasted like Italian dressing mixed with sour cream. I would have preferred a fresh salsa for sure. I ordered the chicken fajitas for lunch and they were really delicious, especially with the fresh guacamole. My husband had another entree but we both agreed the fajitas were the right call. Yummy! My husband had the steak and I had the mole poblano. We both greatly enjoyed our meals. The meat was tender and perfectly cooked. The mole was the right combination of sweetness (from the chocolate) and spicy. I wouldn't recommend the ceviche. The waiter offered to knock it off our bill, but I paid for it anyway because I ate all the avocado slices. So it was my choice to pay for the appetizer, even though they were gracious enough to offer to remove it from the bill. Mariachi made its rounds amongst the tables. Three separate parties requested songs. The band did not charge a specific amount, giving the patrons discretion to pay as they wished. My husband and I chose an antique song called the Chula Mula. Most mariachi bands are not familiar with the song, so it was a pleasant surprise that the main singer knew it. The entire experience was intimate and enjoyable, making it a memorable one. No need to recommend the chili-based, Salsa Cozumelena, made in-house, since it and corn tortilla chips find your table when you are seated. Salsa color, ecru. Verdict--excellently spicy, easily beating any US-imported salsa with ease. (Buy some at the register because you'll never see it again, unless you come back to this restaurant). We ordered the fajitas, which comes with fish and cabbage soup and flour tortillas. The presentation tells you it's just not your local American Mexican spot. Onions were fresh and caramelized; chicken, savory and well-cooked. No sour cream here, nor dedicated tomato salsa, so I splashed Salsa Cozumelena all over the dish, leaving me sweating and sated!
