My wife and I decided to try this restaurant because we enjoy discovering new places. The food was good, not great but good enough to keep coming back. However it was like walking into a church, religious pictures and sayings posted everywhere and religious music playing. Grabbed pick-up from this place and got our food fairly quickly (i.e., it was ready when it was supposed to be). After leaving a $5 tip for pick-up for food that cost about $20, the woman handling the register seemed to be upset by this. Not sure if it was an off night or what, but the woman's reaction led to the rating I'm giving this place. The food was good - especially considering the location - but I won't be returning. 4 stars for the food. 1 for service Service is hit or miss. Tonight was a miss. Only three tables in restaurant and one already had their food. We were greeted and got our drinks quickly. Ordered our meals. Our food was brought out within a few minutes. That was the last time the waitress came to our table. We both needed more water which we never got. Our waitress could be seen playing with the children of the other table. (They were obviously regulars and loud and Poorly behaved kids at that) As well as making several trips to the only other table in the restaurant. When she finally showed up to just drop a check off we asked for more water. She took one glass and never returned. We left our money for the bill on the table and left. The first night I was in town I was famished and was very pleased that My Dad and my step mom chose to take me to this beautiful authentic Mexican restaurant.. The food was overpriced for the portions that we got served. We didn't get a chance to get refills even though we were charged $5.98 for three. The service wasn't great either. Best place ever - and I get a hug every time I go in (there have been no hugs exchanged for this review). Lots of chips included with good salsa. The pork carnitas are amazing. If you have had them elsewhere know it is not the same. Everyone is very sad when they see mine and realize they should have gotten them. Really good food happens at this place. Very friendly staff that make you feel like you are at home. I have to be honest about my ordering at La Covina De Eva, I always order the really spicy shrimp (camarons a la diablo). I just can't get past it. It is the best dish on the mountain in my opinion. My excitement in this gem is at my highest culinary level. Real Poblano Chilies, Creamy Cheesy home made beans, salsas that are carefully balanced using quality New Mexican chilies. We arrived on a very busy Saturday afternoon and Eva was on the run ... literally! I love how she makes you feel like you are her number one priority. The hubby really enjoyed his enchilada and taco and even though our friend's chicken chimi was delivered as a beef chimi, he was NOT disappointed. I ordered the Pollo Especial and shared a bite with everyone at the table because it was SO good! Stumbled upon this hidden gem. Parking lot was crowded, but we decided to see how long of a wait. No wait at all, seated immediately and the service fantastic. We had chips with salsa, great flavor & very mild. So we asked if they had anything with a little heat. She brought out a hot, a mild & an empty bowl. She offered to mix it the way she eats it and we gladly accepted. She also left a hot salsa and gave us a couple warnings. She was right, the hot is HOT! I asked two locals where the best Mexican food was in the Snowflake-Taylor area (out of the five or six choices) and they both said Eva's Cocina. Don't miss out on Eva's Carne Picado. I chose chicken for my "carne" and it was fantastic. Different (and better) spices than typical Tex-Mex. And the beans and rice? Typical Tex-Mex, which I was quite satisfied with. My dining companion liked the fajitas. A moderately busy Saturday night with several large groups, but service was prompt, polite and very friendly, in contrast to what several previous reviewers wrote...Maybe they didn't like all the Bible scriptures plastered all over the place, but nobody was cramming religion down my throat, just real good food, reasonably priced!
