Carne Asada tacos are made from skirt steak

La Cocina De Mama is our go to for authentic Mexican cuisine. The menu is diverse from regions such as Oaxaca, Yucatán, Baja Med, & Tex-Mex. This night we enjoyed sipping Bourbon Margarita, & Modelo Negra. Dinner for me was Cochinita Pibil is a slow-roasted pork dish with Mayan origins. My husband enjoyed the traditional Carne Asada Tacos, which was delicious as always. The service, Mexican decoration always makes feel comfortable & welcome.

My new favorite Mexican spot! The rice and beans had their unique spins on them (which is rare) and the menu had so many unique and great options for both drinks and food. The salsa was perfectly salted and the queso stood out as well. The service was quick and speedy

I figured it had been about 5 years since I ate here, and based on the date of my last review, it was! Time for an update, and I'm happy to report that La Cocina de Mama is still a solid restaurant choice. We dropped in for an early dinner without a reservation, and we were pleased to be able to be seated immediately. Our server quickly took drink orders and delivered them back to the table. The menu is huge, and it has some good favorites (burritos, chicken tortilla soup, taco salad), and some more inventive options. They also have a gluten-free section, which makes it easy to eat GF here. I probably ate too many chips (the salsa was flavorful without being too spicy), but I still thoroughly enjoyed my entree of Camarones Escondido. The server confirmed my great choice when I ordered. Tender chicken breast covered with sauteed spinach, shrimp and a cheese sauce. It hit the spot, and the ample portion size meant that I had delicious leftovers to enjoy the next day. This may be our new favorite Mexican restaurant. Check it out and you may find that it's your new favorite place too!

It was a busy Saturday night. Several large groups were there but we still got served in a decent amount of time. Friendly server. He has his hands full. From the time we placed our food order til it came out to the table was 7 minutes 30 seconds. The food was presented very clean and pretty. We will definitely go back again.

This place is authentic and unbelievably good. I won't come to Louisville without a meal here.

Amazing service, ambience and delicious authentic Mexican cantina so closeby! We enjoyed the Mama's dip first which was creamy queso, beef and pico de gallo. The margarita's are top shelf and tasted so smooth!

One of my favorite Mexican restaurants. I sat at the bar and ordered a sangria ($6). It was a good sangria but the swirl margarita was even better ($7.50). I did learn they have a happy hour! I believe from 3-7. For dinner I decided to get a cup of the soup de tortilla ($5.99) and the salmon tacos ($16.99). I was hungry but did not finish it all. There were 3 salmon tacos plus a side of rice and black beans. The soup was delicious and full of flavor with crispy tortilla strips on top! The tacos were good too. They had a little fishy flavor but it is salmon. I added some more chipotle sauce and it was yummy! The service was good. They checked on me and made sure I was good with my drinks.

This is my first time here. I happened to randomly see the place when I was looking around for Mexican restaurant. I would consider this to be relatively upscale Mexican with some culinary refinement. The menu is quite diverse, and I will post pictures. It was a difficult decision, but I ordered Cochinita Pibil, which is a pork dish with Mayan tradition with rice, black beans, and plantains. All were excellent! My server Artemio was excellent and friendly. The only slight negative was the fact that mixed drinks were fairly expensive and weak, but that didn't take away much from an overall very positive experience. This place is definitely worth checking out!

    tamale and enchilada

I got this delivered. It was amazing. The salsa was fresh and not too thick. The tamale was massive and homemade. The enchilada was also very good, and the ranchero sauce was amazing. It came with grilled veggies and beans. The veggies were so flavorful and fresh, and the olive really complimented them. The beans were melt in your mouth and so creamy! Will definitely be back!

Got takeout the night before Thanksgiving so we didn't have to cook. My mom loves coming here but I hadn't had it in years. This place is definitely worth a shot they never short you on any portions!

Fajitas vegetarianas with some pretty killer black beans, Mexican rice, and some of the best plantains I've had this side of the border

I love good Mexican food. I also love large portion sizes, because... I love leftovers. La Cocina De Mama has all of the above. We dined here one evening, and enjoys their delicious chips (served warm and perfectly crispy) and really, really good salsa. The fajita vegetariana stole my heart, for so many reasons: -SO many veggies (broccoli, mushrooms, and cauliflower, in addition to the standard onions and peppers) -GIANT!! -served with rice, beans, and some of the most delicious sweet plantains I've had the pleasure to devour I've pretty certain this restaurant is a step above your typical Mexican place, and I can't wait to try it again. Just to make sure.

I had been wanting to go for quite some time to try the Birria because I heard it is so amazing, and it really lived up to the Hype! Oh, did I mention they have the viral soft serve margaritas!?!?! I got the strawberry, it was so pretty, excellent presentation and absolutely delicious! I will say it was more like a dessert to me and I would have preferred to have it after my meal instead if before but that's just me. We got there between 6:30 and 7:00 and it was really busy, luckily our friends got there first and grabbed a table. They had already had a round of drinks while waiting on us but it took a while for anyone to come over to greet us or refill their drinks but again it was busy and everyone was helping everyone. We ended up splitting the birria platter and still had plenty of food to take home which we just ate last night as leftovers and were still absolutely fire!! I think the egg roll and quesadillas were my favorite over the tacos bc I love the melty cheese. I also ordered a small side of queso which was surprisingly a little spicy which I really enjoyed. They even surprised us when my BIL ordered a small margarita and it came out in a fish glass (see photo). It was so unexpected but also so cute at the same time ... it's really the little things like this that bring joy, okay? LOL This place was absolutely amazing and I can't wait to try it again.

We were leaving for the second leg of our trip and were running late, as usual. We decided to run across the street for a sit down lunch, what's another hour? Two smiling faces greeted us at the door. They offered a high top but my hip was absolutely not digging it nor a table up the flight of steep stairs. Once seated, we were greeted promptly and had water in front of us almost immediately. We each ordered soup and then a sandwich to share. I had the Sopa de Pollo . A hot bowl thick with thin noodles and lots of chunks of chicken. The chunks were too big to eat without being cut up which was a challenge in a bowl of broth. It was so hot that I had to wait a while to try it and even then had to blow on it. It was delicious. Unless the soup is your meal, order a cup. I still took nearly a pint of soup back with me. My husband ordered the Frijole Negro - a huge bowl of black beans that was served with a large pile of raw onions on top. Like the chicken soup, it was burn your mouth hot and a very large serving. He said it was good but he'd not order it again. Moving on to the sandwich. We had the Cubano. I'm not even going to describe it - just trust me - order the Cubano. Do not look at the rest of the menu - order the Cubano. Don't even bother looking at the ingredients, just order the Cubano. Have you ordered it yet? Do it already. The Cubano is huge. We split one half and had the other when we arrived at our next stop. Do consider that we had soup first; otherwise, we'd have eaten the whole thing. The accompanying plantain chips were worthy of their own review. They were wonderful. Who knows if and when we'll be back to Louisville but when we are, La Bodeguita will be the first place we stop. BTW, have you ordered the Cubano yet? What are you waiting for? Put your phone done and order it! Enjoy!!
