We came in for Mother's day, Matty was our server and had us waiting an 45 minutes before a dish came out. It was hardly warm. We order 3 items the pasta scampi dish, crepes and a dish for home. Poor service and Mother's Day was better last year! read more

Today we went to LC for breakfast on Sunday. I ordered a double Bloody Mary with no garnish. It came looking thin and watery on the BM mix. Husband ordered oj. He ordered the chicken fried steak, gravy on the side with deep cooked hash browns. That came ok except for undercooked hash browns when we had ask d for well crispy. My chiliceles came and was extremely disappointed! It was a scramble of soggy corn tortilla strips with crumbled chorizo with two fried eggs on top and a drizzle of sour cream and sliced avocado on top. About an eighth of an avocado. Absolutely zero sauce or seasoning, extremely dry and tasteless! I poked it around and salted d and peppered and then sauced it with tapatio . It was still bland and untasty. I asked the waiter for cheese hoping to give it some flavors. He brought me two stone cold refrigerator slices of pepper jack. I crumbled them over the plate. I stirred, nothing helped. This was the most abysmal thing I had ever been unable to eat. I've eaten live raw squid that attached itself to my taste buds and live raw abalone that kept trying to leave the table. I'm thinking muchly about driving to murphys rather than subjecting myself to this blandness! On aside, the place is rundown and worn out, dirty and stained floors on the stairs , faded and worn signs and worn out leather furniture in need of reconditioning. read more

We were out of town guests and on our way out we stopped for breakfast. #1 - No steaks (not to mention it was a small menu) #2 - The soda was bad so I asked if they an replace that with an orange juice, sh e said yes but didn't look at me as she said it and forgot to replace it. I had to walk the counter to ask and I asked for a coffee refill too. #3 - Coffee NEVER got refilled, and after asking 3x we finally got the orange juice after our meal was delivered. #4 - They took forever to bring the food, never did a courtesy check up on our table of 6, and non attentive. #5 - They added the gratuity to the tab and gave racist vibes. We stopped this morning for breakfast around 8 am. There was not a lot of people these, which was fine for us. Sierra was our waitress and was very personable. I'm glad she asked if we would like a morning beverage and suggested the Bloody Mary, so I decided, why not! I'm glad I did! It was perfect and a great way to start the day. She was very attentive checking in with us throughout our experience. Food was good too. We asked for something that was not on my menu, and fortunately they were able to offer to us. Ambiance was nice seeing the sun rising enjoying breakfast. Area of opportunity would be to take the time to wipe the front door inside. It's sticky and dirty when you use it. Worst service I've had in memory. Walked in and was directed to a table. Sat there for a 1/2 hour completely ignored. Another 20 mins to get a drink after ordered. There is something off with the service every single weekend visit. The online menu doesn't match the restaurant menu, Manager blames the new owners because they do not have access to it. I don't understand how the weekday service is so much better than the weekend. Too bad because the foods decent. Im going to review this because unless you are a local you have no idea how hard it is to get staff to work in a small town of 3500 people. New owners took over 2 weeks ago and this is by far the best food we have had here in 5 yrs. Give them grace this is a new transition, you are in valley springs where people come to relax not go 100 mph. The chicken parmesan was on point best ive had in a long time and my husband loved the chicken marsala. Coming from a business owner in food industry perspective if you see an off the clock employee helping their cohorts well they must really love their job and want to make sure valley springs has a nice place for families to eat because we dont have hardly any, no business is perfect and lets not use yelp to try to hurt small town feels. read more

I went to Sunday brunch and was sick 3 hrs later. Not just a little sick but food poisoning sick. My husband got sick about an hour after I did and we had completely different things. I called my girlfriend the next day to see how she was and she also got sick but not as bad as us. When my friends suggested playing La Contenta this past weekend, I was a bit hesitant. I've been playing less than a year, so I'm still a padawan learner with a lot of holes in my game. But my friends said we'd play 2 on 2 scramble format, so I figured I'd be ok. I arrived early so I could hit the driving range and make sure I was still hitting my driver straight. Unfortunately, recent storms had been unkind to the range, and it was closed until further notice. "No worries," I thought. "I hit everything straight when I was at the range last week. I'm pretty sure I've solved that slice." I went to the clubhouse to check in and bought a case of neon pink balls because I figured these would be the easiest to find if (when) I missed the fairway. My friends rolled up shortly after that, and we were off to the first hole. Normally when you say a public course is really nice there's an implied "for a public course." Not so with La Contenta. It's a really nice course period. We've had a wet April, but the tee boxes and fairways were in great shape. There were some bald spots on the greens, but I'm sure they'll be fully repaired in a few weeks. I checked out the course map before driving up, so I knew this course was a lot more challenging than the par 3 courses I've been playing. Most of the tee shots are blind, and the longer fairways have rolling hills, so after making that blind tee shot, you may need to make a blind fairway shot. There is a lot of water on this course, and some of that water is camouflaged. For example, several holes have a stream running across the fairway right in front of the green. You won't be able to see those streams until you're right on top of them, so make sure you take a good look at the signage before you tee off. The best golfer in our foursome is a member at Del Rio, and he was wearing a Del Rio shirt. I did not wear my OGCC shirt. It's not like anyone at the club has *asked* me not to wear OGCC gear, I just can't imagine they want me representing them in public. In retrospect, I'm *really* glad I didn't wear an OGCC shirt to La Contenta. Things started off great. My partner JC and I took the first two holes, and I was actually contributing. I didn't even mind all the jokes Mr. Del Rio was making about my bright pink balls. Then we hit the third hole, and things changed. Turns out my slice was just taking a break and waiting for the perfect time to put me in my place. I burnt through my first sleeve of pink balls on holes three through five. Well played slice... By the eighth hole, JC and I were down six to two, and our opponents were getting cocky. There was a glimmer of hope though. Cart service came by, and our opponents started drinking. We ... well JC ... started to mount a comeback, going three for three on holes ten through twelve. I opened up my third sleeve of balls. By the time we teed off on fourteen, I was opening my last sleeve of balls. I made a silent promise that I was going to make this sleeve last. Spoiler alert. I did not keep that promise. I did, however, start playing better. I mean, not good enough to wear my OGCC shirt in public ... but pretty good. Like my normal level of play good. JC was heating up and getting us nice looks at the green from about 50 yards out. The short game is my strength ... well, the least sucky part of my game, but semantics. I broke out my new 60 degree chipper and hit a nice short over the bunker onto the green about 15 feet from the hole. I wanted to shout "hell yeah! That's how we do it in Oakdale!" But discretion prevailed, and that's probably a good thing because JC hit an even better shot, so after all of that, we still didn't use my ball. We are down 9 - 8 as we tee off on eighteen (and I am down to my last pink ball). JC is excited because we have a chance to finish all square. I'm excited because I finally hit my drive in-bounds, and I figure there's no way I run out of pink balls now. Promises made - promises kept baby! That's when the golf gods blessed me with even more humility. I hit my approach shot, and it felt pure! But the sun was in my eyes when I looked up, so I had no idea where my ball went. I really wanted to look for it, but JC spotted his ball down the fairway, and I didn't want to slow everyone down. So I swallowed my last drop of pride and pulled an orange ball from my bag. Oh hell, who am I kidding? I swallowed my last drop of pride five holes ago when JC parked the golf cart with a big-@ss puddle on my side, and I didn't say anything because I felt like I deserved it. We ended up losing 10 - 8, but I'm ok with the result. It was fun, and I'll definitely be back. Probably not anytime soon, but definitely after I learn to keep my tee shot in-bounds. :-) read more

Today Feb 24 Tuesday we went in for a late lunch. Want to try there Taco Tuesday . Just to remind everyone they are only servicing lunch till 3pm. We got there around 1:45pm. My wife doesn't eat beef, long story . She wanted the chicken tacos. Nicole stated she was sorry but they where our of chicken for the tacos. My wife was a little disappointed but ordered something else. Within in 5 minutes Nicole return to our table to tell us the cook Donna felt as bad as she did and Donna was going to cook a piece of chicken to make the chicken tacos. The tacos came out perfect as well as my beef tacos. Both Nicole and Donna went out of there way to take care of one of there customers. Excellent service and Tacos where great!!! My wife and I played here yesterday 8/4. The course is in beautiful condition, the greens are in great shape. Teed off at 10:50, pace of play was awesome, never had to wait. The front desk pro-shop took good care of us (Nate?) matched the golf now price. Very enjoyable day! read more

They can't seem to get it together. There were 7 of us. Food timing was way off. Two of us got our meals while the others waited at least 15 minutes. My salad came with my meal when I had asked for it before. Steak was over cooked and fatty. Mashed potatoes were chunky and dry. When I complained after the meal no compensation was given. All our waiter could do was apologize. No one else came over to discuss. I felt sorry for our poor waiter as he was at the mercy of a bad kitchen and bad management. We won't be going again. This golf course is very well-known as one of the very best. The nicest thing about it is that it's not in a big city and you truly get the full experience of escaping. The Course Pro (Glen) is one of the easiest people to talk to and will take the time to help anyone that wants to better themselves. This place really does care about its patrons. In addition to being one of the most beautiful courses I've had the pleasure of playing on, the food at the restaurant is the best way to finish a day on the green. Came on a Sunday morning, when I walked in there was a party of 9 and a couple parties of 4 or less. The restaurant was very slow. We ordered and it took 35 minutes to get my drink. Then we ordered food and it took another 45 minutes to get our food. We got our food and asked for ranch, never received it also ordered toast and there was no jam, my toast was cold by the time I got the jam. The waitress felt the need to ignore us we cleared our own table and got ourselves out to go boxes. Food was good but the service was horrible. read more

Any one that cannot make hollandaise sauce is not a cook. And I will not be back to try something else on menu. May I suggest Knorrs because what I received on my eggs benedict was so awful I could not eat anything on my plate once I tasted the sauce. It was like eating wall spackle. And reduce the menu size and prepare meals professionally. Again get the package knorrs hollandaise sauce you cant go wrong! Also get larger coffee mugs. 3 sips and you're in need of a refill is just not right. read more

Look, this is a good course not a great course. It's a tough course (if you play from the blues) and still a monster if you play from the whites. You will have to have a little knowledge to play the course if you haven't played there before. It's definitely one of the most interesting courses in the area. Ad far as green fees go to you'll get your moneys worth for the experience. Especially if you play from the blue tees. Now, if your a weekend duffer that plays a local muni course your fat ass better be in shape to walk the hills. You will be doing a lot of walking up and down hills! "But I got a cart..." Big friggin deal! There are curbs all along the cart path. You just can't drive out to your ball like a school bus driver as you do on most courses. Bring your hiking boots and some water. Then suck it up there beautiful because you need stamina to hike around. And that's a great thing! Get some exercise. It's one thing I enjoy about the course. The course is really a decent but the homes around it are intrusive and distracting. I've played this course for over a quarter of a century and it's grown. "Why are you saying that, it's a golf community?" Yep, it sure is. That means you got homes around you the whole time you play. It takes away from the natural beauty when you look at a bunch of friggin homes the whole time you play. If you thought that you'd be looking at nature the whole day well you're in for a bit of a surprise. Once again, the course is awesome to look at yet the homes are distractions so take it for what it is. This ain't a country club community. It's shingle springs! The worst part was Kayla the bartender. Rude! Gave customers the finger. Thought she was joking but found out she is just an arrogant jerk working in the sticks acting like a hot shot. Twenty something years ago I was a quality control person who contracted with a company that did quality control reports for this course and four other courses. If the bartender gave somebody the finger they would've been fired. Guess days have changed. Save your money. There are tons of good courses. Blow this place off and go to a course with some class and some taste. read more
