There is a new owner. A skinny middle aged woman who had the customer service technique of a pit viper. We ordered the prime rib rare and it came tasty and tender but the entire exterior meat was medium well and only the interior was not rare but medium rare! When we confronted her with 40 years meat cooking experience she basically implied FY and stalked off. Now if you ask for one iota more sauce, dressing, horseradish or sour cream they charge you .75 per item! Unfortunately we took our outrage on the waitress with zero tip! However during our entire meal experience the wait staff congregated together past the cash register and gossiped! Minimal checking on customers no conservations unless they already knew you! First I'm a pitmaster and chief. I'm always on the look out for a good steak and prime rib. I've cooked for as many as a 1,000 plus people at once to just small parties so I think I have a good idea of what a good prime rib should be. This place does not even meet minimum standards. Ordered it rare. It came medium to well done. No seasoning I could taste. The edges were well cooked with the center medium at best and chewy. It was served with a foil wrapped baked potato. They might cook good hot dogs but I wouldn't order their prime rib. When I talked to the owner she was negative and basically told me to kiss off. Was visiting a friend who lives in Valley Springs and he suggested this place. He is a frequent visitor it seems so when I looked at pictures and reviews I knew I was game to try this place. I love that they had outdoor seating for a nice day. Its a strip mall parking lot so the views are much to write home about but it was nice to have the option. Service was attentive and helpful. She made some suggestions and we ordered the deep friend mac and cheese because its not on the menu and was a special that day. They were soooo good! They have a variety of food options but since its a hot dog place I obviously had to order a hot dog. I ordered the Hawaiian dog. It was huge and pretty messy. It was pretty good but felt it could have used more pineapple or at least more ripe pineapple because I barely tasted it. I love food with sweet/savory combo's and I didn't get much of that here. What an awesome time today. 5 of us rode up here from Oakland for lunch today, while friends from Ione joined us. Called Stacy in advance, and she reserved a table for 10 . Jaron, I believe how to spell her name, was our waitress. She was a kick. Lot of laughs/fun with her. 4 of us had steak sandwiches, others hog dogs, and a few other sandwiches.Great fun all around. We stumbled across this place on accident (or maybe divine intervention) when my husband passed the Burger King we planned on stopping at for lunch. Ambiance is casual sports bar. We were impressed with Christy's great service and positive energy, delicious gourmet hot dogs, and their spectacular onion rings and chips. Even their garden salad with ranch dressing was memorable. We loved their freshly made onion rings (nothing frozen) fried in beer batter. The onions still had a little bite to them, not mushy like some places make them. They were perfectly fried but not greasy. Christy read my mind three times. Once, when she recommended the chips to my husband, since I ordered the fries, and the onion rings for the side to his second hot dog. I was just thinking we should try different sides before she recommended them. Second, she said she'd bring us jalapeño relish (aka sweet and fire sauce) to try. It normally comes with a burger, but she knew we'd love it. Just yesterday, that condiment was on my grocery list (to add to egg salad), but I never made it to the store. And I've never tried it before. What a strange coincidence! Third, she brought extra napkins before I asked. That's excellent service when they read your mind and think ahead lol. My husband couldn't decide, so he had the Extreme Dawg and the Chicago Dawg. Both were outstanding, but he favored the hot link in the Extreme, just because it was bigger. He still loved the Chicago dog with the relish and fresh toppings. I tried a bite of both, and they were eye-popping delicious. My Reuben sandwich was great too. I had half and got full off of the salad and sides. Christy was so funny and said that her name was Susie if we didn't like it there, but Christy, if we loved it. We loved everything, so kudos to Christy and the wonderful chef and owners running this place. We left right when hundreds of bikers were lined up outside. My pup and I were camping nearby and didn't expect it to be so hot out. After setting up my campsite in extreme heat, I needed to find WiFi to finish some remote work. Initially I was headed to Starbucks, but when I got there, there was no patio. By chance, Hawg Dawgs had everything I needed! It was like an oasis when coming in from hot dry camping. Christy, our server, was so welcoming and kind. I explained my situation and felt like I was having a heatstroke when talking to her. She really made our visit there enjoyable. A huge thank you to her. She let us know they had WiFi and let us take our time on the patio. People I met here were all so friendly. We came back the next day for lunch. I had the garden salad it was chopped with red onions, tomatoes, and all around so good! I know it sounds crazy, it's just a side salad, but it's not just that. The thoughtful preparation of their veggies shows just how much they care about the quality and experience of your meal. It's not just a bagged salad thrown into a bowl. I also had the calamari fries and they were tender and delicious. I really enjoyed the food here. The service is outstanding. The WiFi is a bonus. Came here on a Tuesday and I feel compelled to admit this was a last resort. I was meeting a friend halfway and didn't know the area very well. We literally tried 3 different spots before we ended up here for lunch as many things is the area were closed or had a limited menu on Tuesdays. There is a small seating area on the front patio and when you walk in there is a good sized bar and more table seating. We were greeted right away and told to sit wherevers. I was surprised at how many things sounded good once I got the menu; I actually had trouble choosing. I saw on the menu board they had a chicken tortilla soup and I love to try that wherever I go so I had to order that as a starter. I chose the western burger with chips and I think I made the right choice. I saw lots of people with fries when I walked in and they didn't look very good. My friend had fries with her burger and said they were just ok. The chips were crisp and salty and the burger was very good as well. The waitress did for get about my drink for some time and we were never offered any refills so that was a bummer but overall we had a nice time. They had a lot of dogs and burgers I would be interested to try in the future. Dog friendly patios are definitely a plus for me too so I would absolutely come back here and in hindsight I'm fine with everything being closed because I don't think I would have tried this place otherwise. read more

We stopped on a super hot Sunday and sat outside with Rocky, our BC pup as we're working to acclimate him to many surroundings. The owner/manager (?) invited us to come inside as it was too HOT to be outside. (providing our pup would sit quietly while we ate). She brought him a bowl of water and we enjoyed our delicious and fun lunch. Not only is their food extra, extra tasty, menu choices are innovative and very creative! I've been in calaveras in and out since 2006. I've NEVER eaten here. Not sure why. Cuz IVE MISSED OUT!!! I decided to try it out so I grabbed a pastrami burger and sweet potato tots. This is literally the best burger I've had since Idek when. And the SWEET POTATO TOTS WERE SOOOOO GOOD!!!! they were perfectly fried with just enough crisp and were moist and so yummy. The burger wasn't dripping with grease which I especially appreciate, as I'm a bus driver and my bus is my office. Friendly environment, id like to go on a little dinner date there with the hubs. Stopped here for lunch on our way to nearby San Andreas. When we arrived, it wasn't too busy and we were told to sit anywhere we'd like. The server came to us and gave us our menus. She was extremely friendly and attentive. I personally ordered the Girlie Dog which came with bleu cheese crumbles and bacon bits. We also had their poutine, which wasn't traditionally made but it still tasted good. I also ordered their chile limon fries which were basically just fries with tajin on them but they were yummy. The entire time we were there, our server was attentive and friendly and always checked in on us. If we had any questions, she was able to answer them with ease. How have I missed this little gem?? First off, for those haters complaining about Covid practices ... you should just keep driving, alone in your car with gloves and mask on. There were still people eating, the bar lively, and decided to try Hawg Dawgs. So glad we did!! The food was excellent! As soon as I ate a fry, I knew they weren't frozen but fresh-cut potatoes. The Western hamburger was cooked perfectly, the sauce tasty, the onion ring crispy, and the added bacon -- ready for this?? -- .88 to add and delicious! Very soft bun. The meat is fresh ground there ... juicy and tasty! The salads were fresh, and the toppings chopped like diced tomato and onion. The croutons were homemade, and the dressing tasted homemade. Finally the steak. My honey always gets rib eye, medium. He took his first bite and made all kinds of sounds -- normally a quiet and reserved person, he went on and on about how juicy and tender the steak was. He has had steak all over the state and declared this one to be in the top three -- although he couldn't name the other two. I took a bite and agreed -- it was outstanding!! To top it all off, the bill came with packets of cookies! Yum. You know the food is good when you don't have to add seasoning. Just pepper on the salads.
