Time and time again when I have guests in from out f town I invite them out for brunch, fantastic menu, and the steak croissant is amazing. I usually order the Dantes pancakes (pumpkin) crispy and love how they're made. It's Illy coffee or nothing. And since it is a French bakery I suggest you try the baked goods always fresh and undoubtably tasty. All I can do is challenge you to make your way over here to Beverly Hills one of my favorite nooks for really good breakfast and brunch check it out. Nothing to do with Paris or France and any conversation is difficult as the place is acoustically challenged... My Salade Nicoise came with seared tuna that was perfect, but the rest went downhill from there and had nothing to do with Salade Nicoise. The lettuce underneath came out of a pre-cut supermarket lettuce bag . Pitted black olives, utterly tasteless, in this day and age are a damn shame-on-you. Where were the picolines that you can even find in LA these days? No potatoes, anchovies, a half a string bean on the bottom of the bowl and an unripe tomato slice... All this sad state for $16?! Worse and worse: a balsamic bottled dressing, thick with xanthan gum is hardly a vinaigrette. My friend's ham sandwich barely fared better. The baguette had no crunchy crust, the rest. It's a quaint little "French" patisserie in West Hollywood. There's some outdoor, sidewalk seating facing Doheny and plenty of space inside. Parking is easy, there's a small lot behind the building and plenty of street parking on the side streets. Food was authentic. The croissant dough was flaky and doughy in all the right places. The chocolate croissant was filled with enough chocolate for three, but I'm not going to complain about too much chocolate. If you sit down, they bring out a basket of muffins and croissants to start the table off. Service is a hit or miss, but on busy mornings, expect it to be slow. Had a dog with the dining group so we were seated outside around the corner. Service was HORRIBLE. Had to ask to have our order taken, had to ask for water. Cappuccino arrived with the saucer filled with spilled coffee and no offer to change out the saucer or to bring me a new one. Food took long to arrive. Condiments offered and we accepted but they never came. Servers did not come by so we could not ask for the condiments. At least 2 orders came to our table that were not ours. I love it so much I wouldn't even consider giving this Temple of Cuisine 4 stars and am surprised at those who do. 1. Ambiance - excellent. I recently enjoyed brunch at La Conversation. The pumpkin pancakes are absolutely incredible. These pancakes came as part of the breakfast special. I ordered mine with scrambled eggs and Canadian bacon. I love the muffins they leave on the table. Yummy! I do not love how pretentious the people who visit this place are. I came here for Sunday breakfast with the BF. I must have passed this place a million times and never noticed it, but apparently plenty of other people have because it was super packed. The complimentary mini pastries were a nice surprise and I especially liked the mini scones, although the boy was all about the croissants. I ordered a savory croissant, which was only so-so, and not warm enough. Maybe I should have tried the pumpkin pancakes..... There aren't too many places that can beat La Conversation for it's quaint, charming atmosphere. Sitting right around the corner from busy Santa Monica Blvd, this little cafe promotes a relaxed, casual feel and succeeds! Although since I went there for a Sunday morning breakfast, that might have had something to do with it. The mushroom and swiss croissant was fabulous! The crisp, buttery croissant mixed with the tang of the swiss cheese blended perfectly together, and the coffee was good, hot and endless. They did screw up my friend's order just a bit, but ended up taking it off the bill so there was redemption. The place gets busy so I recommend getting their early. read more

La Conversation is a very adorable brunch place that I have been to many times, but after a while the thrill is kind of gone. It's very sweet to the eye. I love the French decor and feel. Though, it can feel a bit cramped inside. Especially on a saturday morning. Since it is a bit of a hot spot with limited seating if you go on peak hours you can be prepared for a little wait. If the weather is good I recommend sitting outside. The service is okay. I was really disappointed with my latte last week while I was there. When it arrived it had no foam at all. It was just espresso and hot milk. It was a bit depressing. I just don't know how to complain about someone's skill in bar drinks, because if you don't know how to foam milk, you just don't know. I really enjoy the small pastry baskets they bring to your table while you wait for breakfast. Compliments also to their orange juice which is sublime, just be sure to get ice in it as it is served luke warm. This can also be a spot for celebrity sightings if that is what you are in to. I've seen a few people there, but I've heard better stories from others. The food is good, pretty basic. I prefer their lunch selection over the breakfast menu. I've heard their pumpkin pancakes are really good. I like just getting two eggs with potatoes and toast. I'm a simple kind of girl like that. Before heading out to a John Legend/Roots show at the Troubadour right around the corner, Diana P. and I needed to grab a quick bite. This little cafe looked way too cute to pass up. We parked behind the shop, but there's meter and free street parking all around as well..some guy tried to charge us $5-7 to park in his lot. No thanks. Inside reminds me of the cafes right on the streets of Paris. Such a quaint little place! Fell in love instantly. The servers were just as charming. Super attentive and friendly. Wasn't too crowded for a Friday afternoon. Just a few other patrons - sitting outside mostly to enjoy the sunny day. I can see this as the perfect little brunch spot for a date or to meet up with a friend, or even just to come by yourself for coffee and a freshly baked pastry while people watching. Would love to come back and try breakfast/brunch with so much to choose from on their menu. For lunch/dinner, they have a load of sandwiches and salads to choose from. Also got wraps and a few other entrees. Our waitress suggested her favorite, the turkey burger, so we ordered that with a salad for our side. Fresh fruit or roasted potatoes were the other side options for any sandwich. The burger was DELISH! So juicy and flavorful. The salad and its balsalmic-ish dressing was perfectly sweet and tart. This place never disappoints me. 1) their bakery is so amazing. It has the best walnut tea cakes ever!! and if you want a pear tart, you cant do any better than the one here. They also have a bunch of other pastries with custards and chocolates and creams that are to die for. We came on a Sunday morning. I recommend coming in as early as possible. We got here around 10:30. By the time we left around 11:30(?), there was a wait. We ordered the smoked salmon benedict and the eggs La Conversation. Both were delicious though I preferred the smoked salmon benedict. And it was a great bonus that we were given little pastries before our meal. Yeah yeah, I know you get bread at restaurants, but these pastries are not just bread. One of the pastries were freshly baked croissants. Delicious! And I'm not even a big croissant person (or pastries person for that matter). The other pastry was good also though I admit I don't know exactly what it was. All in all, the service was good, and the food was really good. The server was nice, helpful, and patient. And we didn't have to ask for our coffee to be refilled. This is definitely a place to check out. =) read more

I used to be a regular here but haven't been in a while. I must say, Isaiah the busboy was the most attentive at the place. I give the 3 stars because that's what my experience was. Isaiah is the reason it's getting the 3. I went there with a friend and we seated at the counter because it was busy. We waited several minutes before anyone came over to us, almost like the forgotten stepchildren. Isaiah flies in and saves the day. He takes our drink order and expedites the process-- we were about to leave. What I noticed while sitting in front of the ice cube bowl, EVERY server used the glass that was to be served to the customer TO SCOOP THE ICE!!! It's so unsanitary and guess what, Isaiah was the ONLY one that used the scoop. I saw so many issues just sitting at that counter, it caused me to think twice about eating. I eventually caved because I was hungry and needed food asap. The delay though... Isaiah deserves a raise and employee of the month. read more

Delicious, unpretentious, never let me down. On the weekends they serve a complimentary basket of mini heavenly pastries. This is a favorite breakfast spot. The make a delicious cafe latte. But it was so good at this place. my one quip is that the eggs benedict is on a huge croissant, which you could say, it a huge plus, but this was after already eating a free croissant that they give you before your meal. I only ate half of the giant croissant, but still loved the eggs benedict. the food here is clean with not too much grease or anything. the canadian bacon was very tasty and the hollondaise sauce wasn't overwhelming. I've had the pumpkin pancakes before, and they're good because they're not super super sweet, but definitely subtle. Great choice, esp with the potatoes that are SO tasty and not overly salty or greasy. YUM. It says on the menu that the food takes about 20 min or so to come out, but I don't think we waited that long. I love the decor... very fun as if you're in a cafe in france... which is the point of course! The past 3 times I've come, i've been able to park in the lot next to it. If not, there's usually metered or unmetered parking around too. In the traditional pre-meal bread basket, they had delicious glazed croissants and blueberry muffins! Yum! The lack of attentive service could have been because of where we sat - my friend wanted to sit in the little nook right when you walk in to the right. I wouldn't recommend that spot. The floor felt a little slanted - or it could have been my tiny chair. (And I'm a tiny person and I still felt like I was in a tiny chair.) I'm sure that my experience would have been different if we had sat in the main dining area or even at one of the beautiful outside tables. I had breakfast here last Saturday with my friend, Mark, and it was really great! We sat outside in front of the restaurant in front of one of it's big windows. (There are also about 4 two-seater tables along the side of the restaurant, which runs along a small and quiet street, that are probably quieter and get more sun in the mornings.) A good 1/2 to 2/3 of the seats outside were occupied by a great mix of people. From touristy types to people with dogs to the young and hip. My friend and I both ordered something .. two words, first word starting with .. I think .. a "D." (Yes, I could try to be more vague, but I don't think I can.) Basically it was two eggs anyway you want it, two pumpkin pancakes, two bacon or sausages, and potatoes or fruit. I had my eggs poached, got bacon, and fruit. If you like you're yolks runny, but white cooked like me, I'd recommend asking them to make the eggs slightly softer than they normally do. The bacon was crisp and thicker than a lot of other places. Def not paper thin. The fruit was good, but there weren't many pieces. My friend who got potatoes instead had a pretty good quantity on his plate. For a drink, I got a soy latte. I'm not sure what kind of soy they use, but it had the consistency of water and I'm sure it wasn't vanilla soy like most places use. Although I'm trying to avoid dairy, I think I'd opt for the regular latte next time. Oddly enough, the latte comes in two sizes. I have never seen that before. Small is like a diner coffee cup and the large is like the regular latte cups, coffee cup height, but wider. For all you dog owners, dogs are allowed outside. YAY! read more

This place is the absolute cutest spot for breakfast! I LOVE the complementary bread basket of goodies you get when you dine in. I haven't been in YEARS and just happened to be in the neighborhood. I ordered 7 mini pastries and it was around $18 so be prepared to PAY. I ate them all! My favorite was the white chocolate dipped heart cookie. Outside sidewalk eating, on a nice corner in West Hollywood/Beverly Hills. I had the turkey, brie and grilled onion, hot sandwich with salad. It was gooey on the inside, and crunchy on the outside. I also tried the soup of the day, broccoli, no dairy added...not as guilty and it was really good! I wish the sandwich came with like a raspberry jam or something to dip or spread on the sandwich. The brie good but a little overpowering. The turkey was tender and juicy, onions grilled to perfection. The service was a little slow, it took probably 10 min to get water. He had a full sidewalk, so it's not his fault. We didn't waste anytime and ordered immediately, the food took a normal amount of time. Soup was out pretty fast.
