4++ French bakery / cafe located in the Pico-Robertson area. For my experience, note that I came in to grab some food to go and they were closing soon, so I wasn't able to have the full on dine in / service experience so I probably didn't get a good representation of the usual vibe there when it's full. I came in and grabbed one of their spinach and cheese croissants (to go). They definitely don't skimp on the fillings here. It was perfect for heating up the next day for breakfast. I was able to try a few of their other pastries when I was drinking at the wine bar next door (they had received some end of the day leftovers and got to try a couple of them). Both times I've been happy with their pastries. I would love to come here and go in during the busy times to get the full experience here soon. Wow FINALLY they reopened! I used to go all the time when on Doheny. Then before Covid they went out!!! Really missed them! Now back on Pico. Went by today and got two veggie stuffed croissants to go. They were great! Always loved their croissants!!! They have a huge pastry case with beautiful desserts! Can't wait to go back and dine inside and have breakfast or lunch there. One note they start to run out by noon. They close by 4:00. Call ahead for stuffed croissants. My family and I have been ordering from La Conversation for over 15 years. It's great they have a storefront again in LA making it easier to pick up desserts. They have a small seating area. I've tried various cakes, pastries, and other goodies from this bakery and each time they've been delicious and presented beautifully. We were lucky enough to have La Conversation make our wedding cake this last May and we were blown away. I had seamless communication with them regarding the cake flavor options, design ideas, and about set-up/delivery for the big day so it was a relief to know they were proactive in thinking of all the details. We decided on a chocolate cake with buttercream icing. I mentioned we had succulents in my bouquet/boutonniere and they were able to incorporate them onto the cake! A lovely little cafe and bakery right off Santa Monica at Doheny... I've lived in WeHo for years and didn't even know this place was here, but it's worth a visit for sure. I found the street parking easy, there is indoor and outdoor seating, and the noise level and setting make it a good choice for a casual meeting. Tables are a little tight, but it isn't a large space. Working with a laptop might be challenging if you like to spread out. They have a breakfast and a lunch menu, but I was there at an odd time and for a meeting, so decided to just go with coffee and order food to go to surprise the waiting SO at home. The coffee is fabulous and they're great at refills. Staff is endlessly helpful and efficient. It's the kind of place where you feel like after a few visits, you'll get to know everyone there. My colleague raved about their croissants, and she's French! So that seemed like a good bet. I went with two Swiss and mushroom croissants, which the server told me they were out of but would make up a couple of fresh ones just for me. Awesome. As I was paying my bill, I was right in front of the bakery counter so... how could I resist? Again, since I was going home to my patient SO (who didn't even complain about my scheduling a relatively long Saturday afternoon meeting), I decided to get a few things to bring home to her. They had these lovely Macadamia Hearts , which are like a thicker cookie/cake hybrid that are dipped in white or dark chocolate. They're $4.25 each, so I got a couple of each type. And they were delicious. Perfect sweet and romantic little treat that I highly recommend if you need a little gift for your squeeze! This cute little cafe is located on the corner of Doheny and Nemo. My friend and I stopped by on a Saturday for brunch and really enjoyed the ambiance and food. I had the Danie's Breakfast Special that came with two eggs, two pumpkin pancakes, and your choice of meat, I went with the smoked bacon. Overall I thought the food was good, I wasn't a huge fan of their pumpkin pancake (and I normally love everything pumpkin). The highlight for me was the free basket of goodies that was provided. It came with a mini version of their muffin, croissant and scone. What a great way to advertise their pastries because after I was done with brunch, I went straight into their bakery to buy a few items to go. I can tell you that I would have never tried their pastries if it wasn't given to me as part of my meal. I'm always trying to be health conscious but if something is given to me for free, how can I say no!!! If you are looking for a nice breakfast spot in Weho with outdoor seating, this is a great choice. I easily found 2 hour street parking off Doheny. Charm is a funny thing. Not the bauble on a bracelet. I mean the suave savois faire. It's used to describe those who have a way with words. I take it as a given that Prince Charming lived up to his name, as there aren't many men who could've successfully wooed Snow White, Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty. It's also used to describe a place with an intimate allure. A locale in which the ambiance and the food are undeniably enchanting. La Conversation is most definitely charming. The rustic appeal of the interior makes you feel as though you had walked into a cafe in France. The pastry case is filled with tarts and cakes that look almost too good to eat. Aptly named, a seat at any table brings with it a cozy comfort where you'll want to sit for hours sipping their aromatic coffee while engaging in idle chit chat. I've dined here many times, and the food has always been reliably delicious. The Belgian waffle is amongst my favorites. Like a Butterfinger bar, it's crispety and crunchety. Topped with fresh strawberries, I order it when I feel like treating myself. The Eggs Benedict is gloriously rich. A buttery, flaky croissant fittingly replaces the typical English muffin and mixes perfectly with the tangy hollandaise and eggs so fresh the yolk oozes with orange brilliance. As for lunch, their Nicoise salad is amongst the best I've ever had. Ahi tuna that tastes like it was caught that morning mixed with olives, potatoes, onions and green beans, then dressed with a balsamic vinaigrette that is equal parts tart and sweet. The Baker's Favorite is a sandwich one might expect to find on any Parisian street. Chicken Apple Walnut Sausage, buffalo mozzarella and dijon served on a baguette, I can't help but take massive bites every time I order it. And the turkey panini, with caramelized onions and brie is so decadently delectable that one taste will curl your toes. To quote the Terminator, I'll be back. read more

The reason that this quote occurs to me as I sit to write a review of this business is rather straightforward... it's very clear that the owner/head chef at La Conversation found something that he loves to do. It comes out in every item I've ever had from here. Last night it was an apple turnover that put any other apple turnover I've had to shame. A week ago it was a plate of red velvet cupcakes which was all I could afford for my boyfriend's birthday this year (unemployment is a bee-otch). The week before that, another local favorite business had a cake from La Conversation to celebrate their seventh anniversary party. It was by far the best cake I've had in my life, and I'm generally more of a pie guy. And those are only their baked goods. Don't even get me started on their quesadillas. I've had several varieties and each one is better than the last. Bottom line: When you try a place ten times, and they nail it ten times in a row, you know that you're dealing with something special. A place owned by an artisian and not a businessman. Someone who loves to bake, loves to cook, someone who'd never dream of going with a standard, boring recipe for anything when he can put his imagination and creativity into the menu and make something spectacular. So stop by, order anything on the menu, and be delighted. It's that easy. Not to mention, it's in a beautiful location on the West Hollywood border of Beverly Hills, somehow a quiet corner yet a block away from a busy major street. If you really want to spoil yourself, have brunch at La Conversation followed by a spa afternoon at The Gendarmerie spa a few doors down. It's the talk of the town! Get it? OK. Never mind. This cute little cafe is on a pretty dang busy street so immediately look for parking once you turn north from Santa Monica Blvd. In addition, there is parking on side streets to the west of the Doheny that is free of charge. There is metered parking on the east side of Doheny. As for the place, I sat outside so I didn't get a chance to look inside but the outdoor seating was great on a nice summer day. The table was a bit small for three people but it was OK. We started off with some drinks and I just got a plain iced coffee (free refills on coffee btw). Afterwards, I chose the Salmon Eggs Benedict. It is a croissant (toasted) with some smoked salmon, poached egg, and hollandaise sauce. It also comes with salad, fruit, or potatoes. For $18.95, it is one of the more expensive things on the menu and although I thought it was pretty good, the price is pretty steep. The best part was the salmon and egg yolk mixture. You don't really need the hollandaise because the salmon already has so much flavor and if you feel that it's a bit dry, you got the egg yolk to add some moisture to the dish. The salad was a plain salad with some type of vinaigrette. Nothing too special either. I did enjoy the benedict even though the salmon was salty. I tried to compensate for the salt with extra croissant. I hear on the weekends, you get a pastry basket or croissants and muffins. We got a small basket enough for 2 pastries a person. Something good to nibble on as you wait for the food. Only issue? The service. They were pretty inattentive, a bit rude, and sometimes unorganized. I guess the food at atmosphere outweighed that but beware of the spotty service. Sounds like a mobile carrier review... Worth a visit to check out the place and to have a pretty decent meal though. read more

RIP Beloved breakfast place here for over 30 years . Yes another victim of greed. Tear down all of la and you will be left with nothing but chains and unhappy people. Developers have yet again destroyed a place that brought joy to the entire neighborhood. Shame on you, the new owners of the building , who decided to tear it down. Needless to say the whole neighborhood is disgusted with your actions. People brought their dogs, kids, and the elderly spent time there relaxing. The staff was like family. But hey, what's that to you? You probably don't even live in out neighborhood so who cares as long as you turn a profit, built something hideous, increase our traffic and call it capitalizing on an underdeveloped property. As the Thais say, you have a dark soul, and this neighborhood hopes you take that darkness and move on soon. Hopefully not to destroy another neighborhood institution. read more

Yum. Stumbled upon this quaint location with the help of yelp. Neighborhood, European bakerei, meets Philadelphia native with a french twist. The food tasted real as there are no preservatives or microwaves used making it more than worth the wait. A basket of yummy pastries are brought to the table as you are seated. Had salmon with eggs benedict and potatoes served on a real coissant. Mom had a roasted vegetable omelet which was well seasoned and not salty. Dad had Belgian waffles which had a unique flavor. We left very full! The only drawback is the tiny and therefore slightly noisy atmosphere. Outdoor seating by sidewalk is available. Taking amazing pastries for dessert to go and share. read more

It's been almost 2 years since I first came to this small French café. I started coming here because I left my heart in Paris and was missing there so much. Some of their decor reminded me of a small corner café I enjoyed while I was in Paris. I was initially coming to La Conv. for that sentimental reason as if I was trying to collect missing puzzle pieces to fill in my inner incomplete Paris puzzle, but my relationship with this café has grown since. This place has become a special place for several reasons. This café has a great vibe and brings so much luck. It witnessed so many of my unexpected great events that happened here. My promotion was announced, new contracts signed, introduced to the new field of work; also deep talk with girlfriends, heartfelt advices from my dear gay friends, brunch with long known friends, and I even met a new client here. And many more good things all happened here in the past 2 years. While they bring me so much luck and joy, I enjoy their café au lait just like I did at a café in Paris. Their Croissants are soft and moist and always have a subtle butter flavor. Muffins look always cute and they are crispy outside and moist inside. Their fruits are always fresh and generous serving size. Their omelette? It's big and very good! Try their quiche at least once, so we can talk about it. Oh yea, can't forget about miniature croissants and muffins served on weekends. They are way too good! Sometimes I do to-go when I don't have time to sit down. I ask for their miniature croissants and muffins, and I expect 4 to 5 of them in a bag as that's their usual serving size on the weekend. But my bag is so full with a whole bunch of the miniature pastries. La Conv, you always make me happy and make me smile a lot. Thank you, La Conversation. This review? Long overdue. What's the conversation you ask about La Conversation? Well...... From what I know, this is small unique organic establishment with a hint of Paris atmosphere. I frequent this spot because it's close to work. I don't really get down with coffee ( Yeah, you read right. I don't drink coffee. I grew up watching my parents drink enough of it for me and half the kids I kicked it with around the way. ) Anyway.... I like a croissant or a nice scramble eggs and/or oatmeal and/or bacon. The mixed fruit from here is usually seasonal, fresh and WELL CUT. ( we all are familiar with certain spots that hand out fruit bowls that are LACKINGGGGGG with freshness. Not here. ) Not only are items well prepared here but the service is top notch. I usually like to mess with Naomi, she recognizes my voice from phone calls and knows my orders down to a tee. Ok. Yeah, I've been working in the area for about three years but in that time I've seen quite a variety of patrons frequent the spot. It's not an iHop type of joint. Where one might bring a big party (6-8 people) and have a brunch type of feast. This spot is a bit more intimate, way more personable here. Small tables, set for engaging catch-up conversions or business idea pitches for whatever the case. Oh yeah, don't trip if you see a couple grannies coming thru the piece. The pastries from here are amazing! I'm sayin' doe! At least every other time I'm at the spot I see a granny-Ann pickin' up a cake for her granddaughter ....or an assortment of cookies and Lotte cinnamon muffin pastries for her book club crew.... They're faithful to this spot! At least the locals are for that matter. Music to your mouth, and ice cream for your eyes. Sit on the veranda outside for the best experience -- dowdy old Doheny looks somehow more like the Champs d'Elysee, when viewed from La Conversation's angle. I called to place an order for 7 dozen croissants to pick up in a few days and Bebe was so kind and helpful! I asked for a break on the price, given the size of my order, and she didn't hesitate to take care of me. Overall, I was very impressed with Bebe's attitude and kindness and wanted to acknowledge her for that. We randomly came to La Conversation for a late lunch on our way to Beverly Center as we were searching for an outdoor seating restaurant for our doggie :) service was a bit slow but it's expected for a small French cafe. We ordered Bouchee a la Reine --(thousand layer pastry with chicken Béchamel and mushrooms) and a Pear and Arugula salad with chicken to share.
