We chose this awesome place based on their Yelp rating while we were in town doing some house-hunting. What a delight! I had a steak taco which was fresh, fresh and fresh! Tender marinated beef, cilantro, avocado, with lime on the side. Minor quibble - a bit more generosity with the cojita cheese would have taken this over the top. As seen on my pics, the amount of cheese much have been about 1/4 tablespoon and were the size a fresh ground pepper. Chips were thin and crunchy with a homemade salsa. Service was fantastic - the bar guy who subbed as a server spent time talking through the food options despite my annoying questions. Follow up was perfect. My husband had the chicken tacos with rice and gave it double thumbs up. One more thought - clean and fill your hot sauce bottles! We visit the Porters Neck K38 often. Love the food & always great service!! My ONLY issue as a regular here for over 3 years is the cleanliness. The tables are fine & plates/utensils are always clean. It's the general inside that is just getting kinda gross. I never want to sit near a wall, the food splatter & misc 'unidentifiable stuff' on walls near tables is ICK. Light fixtures & such look like they have caked-on dust that's never been cleaned. Its also a bit dark & with the lack of cleanliness it's beginning to make me wonder what the kitchen is like???? I mean, we never see that part..... It just needs an interior OVERHAUL! Please! Would not go again, below average. I got chicken enchiladas with rice. Rice was extremely dry and enchilada was not good at all. Paid 20 dollars for the most basic chicken enchilada option, a drink, and a singular slice of avocado on top of my enchilada. Service was slow and the waitress seemed annoyed the entire visit. Last minute Monday night dinner and drinks was perfect at K-38!! They had fish tacos for $4-$5 and margs for about the same! My friend had the specials but I had the beach blanket tacos which were hard shell tacos wrapped in a soft shell and held together with a little queso!! Sooo good! In addition, I got the street corn which was cold, but tasty. And they actually took it off the Cobb for me! And for a drink I got the Cabo lemonade. It was a great concept, however, the glass was too big for this drink. The tequila was watered down by the ice and other ingredients. The chips and salsa we so good that we had two bowls full. ‍ We also had the guava and queso which was also perfection. She ordered the steak fajita quesadilla and I had my usual tuna roll. Tried this place out for dinner with family on a Tuesday night. The restaurant is obviously popular and had a full restaurant but not too full to be seated immediately. They have really fun decor that was cantina style with lots of colors and unique decor. The style of food is a southern baja....fresh with southern twists, such as adding BBQ to many of the dishes. I tried the shrimp pineapple and bacon enchiladas that had a BBQ sauce instead of a red or green tomato sauce. Very unique but I found the bbq sauce overwhelming. I didn't taste any bacon and the pineapple was hardly there (more about the pineapple later). The sides were very fresh and went well with the entree. You get a choice between rice or beans, or street corn but it costs more and we weren't told that when given the option. The corn was not very flavorful, either. They have specials and Tuesday is half off fajita night, which was a great deal! We also tried the key lime pie. The pie itself was tasty and had a good lime flavor... not too sweet and tart. It was a small slice for the price. The crust was soggy and had probably been sitting in the fridge for awhile. They added a prickly pear sauce and that was amazing but definitely needed more. Here's what messed it up...they tossed canned pineapple chunks on top and around the pie. It was awful and ruined the pie. It didn't add any good flavor or texture to the pie because it was canned pineapple. I'm assuming canned pineapple was also used in the enchiladas, which is why I didn't taste it there. The pie would have been much better with only the prickly pear drizzled over. Wouldn't order it again. Service was nice and we were taken care of well and quickly. The prices were a tad high for tacos and enchiladas, but in this economy, it's hard to hold this against any restaurant. Overall, I was a little underwhelmed but I'm also pretty picky when it comes to Mexican food. I can see why so many enjoy this restaurant and think it would be ideal to meet friends or spend an evening with family. It's festive and has a lot of options! read more

Chips and salsa came quickly and were good. I got the chicken fajitas which were good, but super salty (otherwise I'd go 5-stars). On a Tuesday, draft XX Lager was $3 and fajitas were 1/2 price (so $7.50). Very reasonable prices. read more

I woke up this afternoon craving Mexican. After looking at menus for half an hour, I landed on K-38. I had a hankering for fish tacos and went with the San Felipe Taco. I saw the Chile Relleno and had to try that as well. All I can say is the meal was everything I wanted and more. The service and quac were good but everything else was subpar to say the least. The margaritas were undrinkable. The taco shell on the taco salad tastes like a bad wanton. The enchiladas were tasteless and the Mexican rice was inedible. The street corn was so salty it was difficult to eat. And the fish tacos tasted like a McDonald's filet o fish. 3 years ago the food was great. The seafood quesadillas was spectacular. But now it seems to be a Mexican hooters. I went here for a dinner date with my husband. I ordered the bbq chicken tacos with a side of refried beans and rice. He ordered the ribs with a side of French fries, and cold slaw. The tacos were good, but I wasn't fond of the execution of it. The pulled chicken was very juicy and made the taco shells soggy. Also my first bite of the taco I bit into a huge bone from the pulled chicken. I probably wouldn't order that dish again but it was good overall. I also order a coconut pineapple mixed drink it was overly sour the first go round but our waitress was so nice and had the drink remade with out the lime and it was delicious the second go round. Also the complementary chips and salsa was nice. Their salsa is packed with great flavor and tastes fresh. My husband enjoyed his ribs and said they were really good. I haven't been here since I was in college. I work out in Porters Neck so came by for lunch after an early day. I got a prickly pear margarita and seafood tacos. The tacos are massive so two was more than I needed for lunch after starting with chips and queso. My friends had the shrimp tempura roll which they said was good and filling. Came in late on a Saturday night and were seated right away at a table outside. There were a few other groups outside as well. All employees had masks on and our waitress was super friendly. She said you're welcome after every thank you! We order house margaritas and since my husband loves their salsa, she brought a second cup! Our food seemed to take awhile to come out but I never went inside to see how busy it was. When the food came out it was hot and tasty. I've been to K38 multiple times but this time was especially special. I came with a party of 19 for my dear friend's retirement party. Our server Caroline was the sweetest girl and helped with our every need and request. Any time any of us had a question about a menu item, she immediately knew an answer and even gave us some recommendations. 2nd time coming but first time at this location. In the first visit I wasn't impressed but thought it was a fluke. This visit was the nail in the coffin. The food was actually gross. My two sons ordered fajitas and they brought them out in a plate because they were out of the cast iron plates. The vegetables were steamed not sizzling with only peppers and onions. You can drink the salsa, that's all you need to know! Jk but for real! They make all of their chips and salsa in one place and distribute it to their restaurants that way it always tastes the same. This locally owned business is a huge hit amongst locals and visitors. They will be busy at any of their locations so expect to be on a wait. It's worth it though. I've tried everything from burritos to fajitas and my latest favorite is this Baja cobb 1/2 salad. It's amazing and instead of dressing go with salsa Service is always just okay but they are busy and most importantly food is hot, quick and tastes great! Love their food, when you get the correct order. But be careful when you order take out. I would recommend you verify what you are getting. It would be lovely to have silverware or even a napkin.
