We got here at 2 pm for a late Sunday lunch after a hike at Big Break, which is very nice by the way, but under construction at key places right now. Looking for a lunch spot I saw that La Costa had 48 reviews at 4.5 stars and is priced at one "$" -- so despite the sketchy locale we decided to go for it. The line was snaking out the patio into the parking lot because of church letting out we guessed, and 90% of the patrons & staff were speaking Spanish, so it was a bit of a shock, but when we saw large numbers of people happily bent over tasty looking mounds of food we decided to give it a whirl. The patio is huge, well covered, and nicely arranged and decorated for a large taco stand type place. There were four or five tables ahead of us, and yet we ordered and were served in about 15 minutes, from the park-the-car to food-in-the-mouth. Wow. Fast and clean - the place was jammed but whenever someone stood up staff would be there wiping it down. The $ menu is great - no carnitas but a very decent selection of fish and shrimp items like the ceviche tostada I had. For under four bucks they piled my tostada with about 1.5 cups of ceviche that was 1/2 shrimp & marisco and 1/2 onion mix. I had ordered a pollo taco too because I was hungry and the food was dirt cheap, but the tostada was so big I only ate the taco because it looked too yummy too let get cold. My wife liked her carne asada burrito, but said the beef was too bottom-of-the-pan greasy, so she'd probably give La Costa fewer stars than me. Yelper tip o' the day: We hit the grocery next door on the way out - they had the usual Mexican/American selection but I found *powdered* horchata and agua fresca mixes for the kitchen pantry - the horchata is good. read more

I know I should stop eating. But I just can't. This is the best pastor taco salad I've ever had. Yumm!!!! I'm actually kind of sad that I've never been here before, I've been missing out in a big way!!! I'm going to write my review as I sit here and eat, I just can't get enough of this taco salad. I found this place with the help of yelp and i'm sure glad I took the drive. This restaurant has a great vibe and atmosphere. From the music to the smiling faces of the employees. I love the outside seating area just a few feet away from the water fountain. The birds try to make friends with you to get a quick snack and I sure didn't mind the company. I truly adore this place and I can't wait to take my hubby here for some grub. My food was both hot and fresh. for 9 bucks I got a huge portion that I could not finish, as much as I tried!! There is nothing I would change about this place. When I walked in to order I was slightly overwhelmed by the options and shear size of this restaurant. But the beautiful girl at the register was so kind and helpful. I asked for her favorite meats since this was my first visit. She was so sweet and told me her favorites and why. Ordered a carne asada burrito today and it was pretty much a sloppy rice, sour cream and onion burrito with a little bit of meat sprinkled in a greasy and stale tortilla. Prices have gone way up too. Idk why I love this place so much... it is soooo far away! Strangely enough, one pre-COVID evening, around 8pm, we decided to venture all the way to Oakley (we somehow convinced my husband to drive us, lol) and she popped my La Costa cherry. I always get a carne asada burrito (regular) and add cheese. Something about letting this burrito sit for a minute makes it that much better! We drove back (aka the burritos sat for a good 45 mins before we ate it) and my first bite was... orgasmic! That burrito didn't stand a chance. Fast-forward to yesterday... we decided to take another adventure to La Costa an hour before closing. We joked about how we were probably going to get bottom-of-the-bin meat since it was so late. She convinced me that was probably the best meat since it would be soaking in all that greasy glory. Well, we grabbed our burritos (mind you, my husband tells me he doesn't want one before I leave the house... 15 mins after I'm on my way he texts me that it's probably a good idea I grab him one anyway, lol). OK, so she decides to give me a tour of Bethel Island, hence the "letting the burrito sit" part. We drove around Oakley and Bethel Island for about an hour, then we drove home (another 45 mins). I get home and she texts me that she annihilated her burrito, lol! I'm in the middle of cutting mine in half because I'm attempting to be a good girl, but who am I kidding?! Mine is gone before I blink. Basically, I'm telling you... La Costa is worth the drive. I can only speak for the burritos bc that's all I ever get. read more

If we had the opportunity to give ONE *special* place more than even a full 5 star rating, LA COSTA would be my place. They don't tax you! Everything is what it's priced on their menu FLAT. Only $5 flat for one of their burritos.. And boy don't get me started on one of those. It's just something ya got to try. Got to. Everything else is just as amazing. The burritos are just my go to since they're sooooo filling. Every type of meat they serve there is cooked to perfection. Simply delicious. I've never had anything there I didn't like and I've tried nearly everything.. From the tacos de al pastor to especially the burritos de asada to the carnitas plate to the ceviche.. It's all great. And the staff is great too. There's always that family vibe. They take care of you. I've actually been a fan for a while. I used to come when "La Costa" was merely what looked like a public bathroom stall in the middle of a plaza with an outside sitting area surrounding it. I knew from my first visit that they were going to grow and grow and grow. That's just what they did and they did it well. All the decor and sitting areas both inside and out were well thought out and nicely schemed. It's a VERY inviting place and the atmosphere is always lively. Ate here today prior to a wedding. Place scared me a bit as it was so clean and strip mallish....I prefer the hole in the wall spots usually...but YELP said it was great so in I went. Glad I did. How do we do it? Randomly exploring this little town on a great Sunday, we came across this restaurant located on the corner with plenty of parking. Yummy, yummy trio of carne asada tacos accompanied by the traditional rice and beans. Salsa? Yes, please! Two kinds were given to me and there was a third on each of the outdoor tables. Horchata was delightful! Mmmmmmm. Although it was late-ish in the afternoon, this place was consistently busy, but everyone received their food quickly. Some walked up, drove up and rode up. Discovered La Costa today. The shrimp ceviche was the perfect pick me up during these weird times. It was mildly spicy, acidic, and super fresh. Best Inexpensive Mexican food around Oakley area!! I used to come to this place even before they renovated and with renovations the place has seriously upgraded! I love coming here... the staff is super nice and always cheerful and smiling! Food is very affordable and tasty as well. I haven't tried everything on the menu, but they do have a great selection to choose from. From experience, I highly recommend getting a burrito for $5, an enchilada plate that comes with refried beans and rice for $7, or try 2 Tacos because for one it is about $1.50, and one is not enough because you're definitely going to want more. I love this place and I have been a customer for quite a few years now. I would love to give this place a 5 star, BUT I always order the same thing here which is their carne asada burrito. I LOOOVVEEE their burrito and I have yet to find another place that even comes close to La Costa's. Food service is fast and their environment is amazing. They got big garage like windows that they can open during the summer months and plenty of tables and chairs. I'm not from Oakley, but I been coming to La Costa since before they renovated it, and I must say the new La Costa is very nice and clean, I like it. The food however has went down ever since the change, portions got smaller, prices went up and the food has gotten a little bland for my taste. Also the past couple times I've came they've gotten my orders wrong but the staff were friendly about it and exchanged my orders. They also have an awesome salsa bar with lots to choose from, jalapeños, limes, serrano peppers, and 5 different salsas to choose from, it's awesome. I love this place. I used to work for a civil engineering company where we did a lot of land surveying in the Delta, and we'd go out of our way to make sure we could stop at La Costa on the way home. We started going there in '99, back when there was no canopy and the tables were wood, but the burritos were $1 cheaper. They raised the prices and immediately starting putting money into the place, and it was WELL SPENT. I'm a big fan of the carne asada burrito... the mixture of the beef, red sauce, sour cream and onions is incredible. "The Sour Cream Rush", as my friend Jake called it. Pile on the crusty Tapatio sauce with every bite and chase it with Mountain Dew, and have a taco for dessert. Incredible. Oh, and to echo the comments about the staff: LIGHTNING quick and fun to watch, very courteous, and fully bilingual, even when the call out order numbers to be picked up... "Catorce, fourteen!" I started a fan club on facebook... just search for "la costa tacos y mariscos", which is the full name of the place. I wish they sold T-shirts... I'd wear one in a heartbeat, as would lots of proud locals, I'm sure. read more
