I was pleasantly surprised by Taqueria Chapala. It's location is in a small plaza with plenty of parking, near a busy car wash, so patrons were coming in to pick up food while waiting for their cars. For a late Monday afternoon, they kept pretty busy! I thought it would just be a plain, simple order at the counter spot. But, wow, instead it's a colorful and fun interior with cool tables and decor. It's sit down with table service and their staff is extremely attentive and service was quick. I got a veggie burrito bowl which had lots of grilled peppers, onions and zuchini, over rice and beans, topped with guac, sour cream and cheese. It was a lot of food, that I was able to have leftovers for the next day. Really enjoyed my late lunch here. read more

I don't usually leave negative reviews, especially for small businesses, but I feel a responsibility to be honest so others don't have the same experience I did. I came in excited to order a breakfast burrito. From the start, the interaction felt a bit off--the person taking my order seemed surprised that I was there to eat. Still, I went ahead and ordered. When the burrito came out, I took one bite and immediately noticed an unpleasant, metallic taste. It reminded me of residue left behind on a flat-top grill when it hasn't been properly cleaned. On top of that, the burrito was undercooked--the eggs were still raw and the cheese wasn't melted. I brought this to the attention of the waiter, and what concerned me most was that he didn't seem surprised. That lack of reaction made me uncomfortable. To be fair, the waiter himself was very friendly and kind. My son ordered pancakes and really enjoyed them, which is a positive note. However, given my experience with the burrito, I didn't feel comfortable letting my son finish his food. I hope this feedback is taken constructively. Sorry, I really hate to deliver a review thats not good. Unfortunately when we ordered recently, we had 2 orders of the pastor tacos which were good, but I was missing the other order of two tacos. We also ordered two burritos (chicken) and the shell/wrap was dry(old) and the burrito itself was dry. No sour cream, the chicken was a grayish color. It was a huge let down. So we came back for lunch and this time we decided to eat inside. This place is very cute and quant. It has like seven TVs in there, so if you ever want to watch sports or anything, it's a good place to do that. The chips, salsa and guacamole dip were amazing, very fresh & crisp chips. The service is excellent they're very friendly, professional and attentive. I ordered ground beef tacos and rice and beans and my husband had shredded chicken tacos and enchiladas with rice and beans. Well everything was delicious so tasty and fresh. Average Mexican place. If you come here you will not be disappointed or highly satisfied. This place is brand new. We came here because of the opposite auto spa, as we need to wait a long time so why not eat! Anyway, first shocking thing is we went at noon, but there's no breakfast. Anyway I ordered California burrito, which supposed to come with meat (which I chose to ignore), choice of hash browns or French fries, guacamole, salsa, rice, black bean. First of all, the burrito is hot in two sides and cold in the middle! Not a good first impression. And as I expect from this type of street side Mexican places, two much rice! This place also has an enormous amount of rice. Hash browns are not seasoned but decent. I couldn't find guacamole, but salsa tastes nice. They didn't ask me for choice of spicy, which is a bit strange and can definitely be improved. Finally a nice burrito should have stuffing mixed nicely, which in this case is not. I found salsa in one side, hash browns in another side. Taste is average, if I come to the auto spa again I will come again as I need time to kill. But I won't crave for this! If the restaurant management reading this review, spend some time perfecting the burrito, there are very nice burrito places like senir sisig in lafayette, which does amazing California burrito. Small clean restaurant that is close by. We went a few times. Our favorites are the birria taco, shrimp tostada and the beans and rice. Yummy michelada. The salsa and chips are fresh. It is just as important to consider how you feel AFTER eating somewhere as you do during the visit. My wife and I came here while waiting for our car to be cleaned at the car wash that they are next to. We ordered chips & salsa, fish tacos, and carne asada tacos. Service was a little slow despite the restaurant being empty, but our server was friendly and attentive. She brought us chips and salsa and told us that we could get other salsas inside at the salsa bar. The tacos came out hot and looking good. My fish tacos were tasty but a little too salty. I never really understood why so many Mexican food places over-season their taco meat. Speaking of over-seasoning, our carne asada tacos were drenched in marinade to the point where I could really taste the soy sauce in it. Of course, everything was flavorful and tasted good but we would pay dearly for it later that night, as I will explain next. The tacos dried me out so much that no matter how much water I drank afterwards, I was still thirsty. This continued into the night where I had nightmares and even into the next morning when I still felt dried out. My wife felt a little nauseated too. You can say we are sensitive people, but this doesn't happen to us everywhere. Also, there were some very fatty pieces of meat and some bone in it too with the carne asada. We thought we enjoyed the food when we were there, but realized that we did not once we left and returned home. We were probably too hungry to notice how we felt at the time. I think this place is cute and it has potential. The servers are nice and friendly and they have a charming vibe. Honestly, I would give this place another chance if they reassured me that they are cutting back a little on the salt and soy sauce and letting the natural flavors shine through. That being said, I would probably return for drinks and appetizers, even if I skip out on the food. Also, they should sell single churros instead of requiring you to purchase three at a time. I would have purchased one but 3 for $7 is a little steep. I just wanted to share one with my wife. With some improvements, this place could be great. I will wait and see. read more

Amazing...... from the customer service to the food... impeccable flavors..... the Chile Relleno burrito is crazy fire I added asada to it.. one of the best burritos you can get... The pollo flautas are insane. All the toppings mesh well together. The salsa rojo & salsa verde is smackington. I also got a strawberry horchata which was pretty good. My husband and I went there for breakfast because he was craving chilaquiles. We both ordered the chilaquiles and some scrambled eggs with cactus. We being Mexican knew what to expect. When the waiter brought us the food, I tasted the chilaquiles and they were the most disgusting chilaquiles I've ever had. The red sauce had no flavor and had a bitter taste as it came from a can. The chilaquiles should be made with fresh tortillas and not from tortilla chips. The scrambled eggs with cactus were also awful. I do not recommend Taqueria Chapala to anyone! read more

Was disappointed in the chile relleno, the chile didn't seem fresh and the carne asada taco I ordered, the meat was way over cooked like eating beef jerky. However the shredded chicken taco I ordered was delicious which made my review a three star. She asked me a few questions and, based on my answers, recommended the crunchy shredded chicken tacos. These were delicious... minus the oil dripping off. They were really crunchy but not hard (if that makes sense). The veggies in the tacos looked fresh and tasted fresh. The orchata also gets 2 thumbs-up. It was tasteful and not grainy as some tend to be. The restaurant is extremely clean... yes... even the bathroom ( I washed my hands). The restaurant has a modern look with authentic Mexican decor. We tried the horchata and it was a little too sweet, but delicious all the same. The chorizo burrito was good, but we felt that there could have been a better egg to chorizo ratio (lots and lots of chorizo) I have to agree with the other poster Rudrasis in his assessment.
