I came by with some family on Sunday after a long morning, and we wanted to try this new joint out. As expected, brunch and lunch time was packed, so there was a little bit of a wait. The environment looked really nice, and they definitely went all out with the decor. I really enjoyed the look and atmosphere of the place. I could tell the servers and hosts were a bit overwhelmed because it was extremely busy, and I completely understand. After we ordered, they were kind enough to bring out our beverages: water, juice, and coffee. However, this was where we ended up waiting quite a while for our meals. We ordered a few platters along with nachos, and I honestly feel like the nachos could have been brought out first since they're a quick appetizer that the table could enjoy while waiting for the main dishes. Once our meals finally arrived, I was excited because this was my first meal of the day. Unfortunately, when I took my first bite of the carne asada, I was pretty disappointed. The meat was extremely bland. The best part of my plate was probably the frijoles. I was hoping the salsa provided at the table would help add some flavor, but unfortunately, both salsas tasted very diluted. I know some water is normally used when making salsa, but I felt like the ratio was off and it didn't have enough flavor or spice to balance out the meat. I still devoured my entire plate because I was starving, but my family members had similar thoughts. They also felt that their proteins were a bit bland and agreed that the salsa could have used more flavor. There is definitely room for improvement, but I appreciate the service and understand that they were dealing with a very busy Sunday. Hopefully, with some adjustments to the seasoning and salsas, the food can match the great atmosphere and hospitality. read more

I stopped by Tortas Ahogadas El Tío recently and wanted to share my experience. The service was friendly but the food itself wasn't the best. but I do have to point out one thing the pictures on the menu look nothing like what actually comes out . It's a little misleading because the photos make the dishes look big and loaded, but the plates served don't really match those expectations. It's not a huge deal, but it does take away from the overall experience when the presentation doesn't line up with what's advertised. Also the tacos I had the meat tasted so old. I wonder if they just reheat the meat daily. Food came out cold. It felt like the tacos were just sitting there waiting while the kitchen forgot about them. The guy with the mustache had a friendly face but the worst service I've ever dealt with. Had to ask multiple times for salsa, ketchup, straws, and the check. Every time we asked for something he'd disappear and leave the girl to handle everything by herself. When I asked for straws he actually gave me a look like why are you bothering me? Then when we asked for the check he sent the girl over instead of handling it himself. This guy is a liability to that business. The food itself has potential but none of that matters when the service ruins the whole experience. Go to 7 mares grill instead, food is always amazing tasting and the service is great at 7 mares. My husband and I visited once when it was at the smaller location down the street, and tonight was our first time at the new spot, what a great upgrade! The atmosphere really made us feel like we were in an authentic Mexican restaurant, full of great energy and welcoming vibes. The service was outstanding, our waiter was very attentive and made sure we had everything we ordered. As for the food, it was absolutely delicious! I went once when it was in the smaller location and this is my first time coming to the new spot. I really like all the colors - the mural on the wall, the colorful tables and chairs plus the outdoor seating. The service was fast - we were seated right away and got our drinks right away. It was pretty slow service after that but it was ok cuz I enjoyed the vibe here. I had the mini torta and taco dorado. The taco is crispy with potato on the inside. If you want meat, you have to ask for it and they put it in top. Be ready for a messy but tasty meal. And yeah, the torta is ahogada (drowned) with the juice!! It's really good though. The ambulance is casual, clean and a bit noisy from the crowd, the wait staff is disorganized as they are scrambling to seat customers, bus tables, take orders and service guest. Their efforts and ability to focus on customers is truly challenging but they do their best with a smile. My meal (a fish taco) was unpleasant as it was over salted, the other food we ordered was delicious, when we flagged the waitress and explained about the fish taco being too salty she offered to accommodate and removed the plate and brought another fish taco without salsa/sauce. It was absolutely refreshing and delicious. I believe accidents happen and they corrected the issue to my satisfaction, it may have been an isolated incident. They really should focus on staff efficiency and organization. We will return and give them another opportunity. read more

The service is a 5 star. The food is decent. The owner took care us, Nahiem. He was super on top of it even though he told us 2 chefs were out and one waiter. I had the Torta Ahogada. This was soft and flavorful the raw onions in the broth was delicious. My wife had the Barbacoa tacos. The consomae needed salt and the shell of the tacos could have been crispier. I'm updating this review because I think it's time that we give this place a break. I have found that almost every time we order to go, they get the order wrong even after repeating it correctly over the phone. We purchased food here last Thursday 5/29 and the Lengua tacos are my favorite and I think the best around, but this time they were so salty that they were inedible. I was able to get through 2 of four when the last two were horribly salty. I'm not sure what exactly is this places issues, I wish they would improve only because I want to support them as a local business. After this last time, me and my husband agreed that we need to give this place a break. read more

It was busy but the food was worth the wait. I felt I was eating in Guadalajara. Best torta ahogada I've had in the states. The bolio salado, the salsa, the chile, all authentic flavors. New bigger location so we had to go back and support the local family business. This is not the same restaurant that I tried before, new location, a clean bathroom and dining area and friendly staff who treated us like they wanted our business! Definitely seen the pride of ownership come back. Food was so much better than the last time. I don't know if it was because of the pandemic or because it was take out last time but it wasn't the same at all. Tortas were bomb, sauce was not runny but savory and delicious. Bread kept its integrity, filled with meat and pickled veggies. Tacos were okay but I think I'll try something different next time. I wanted to wait until I had gotten food from here a few times until I made a review & ever since my first experience here, it has always been great! My torta was huge! But not only was it huge, but it tasted amazing too! Every ingredient just worked together. & not only was it good, but it was also affordable too! Honestly, I would have been good with just a torta because I got full with just half of it, but I HAD to get some taco's. The tacos were also good! It was my first time getting their Chorizo taco's & I was not mad about it. In fact, I loved it. Wish I could have had more, but I was also full, so thankfully only got 2. We spent literally 2 hours trying to get our food . 40-50ish min wait to sit ( they told us it would be about 30 which is fine ) but then we got seated then waited 30 minutes for someone to get us a menu then another 30 for water and for them to get us drinks. Add another 30ish for them to take our order then another freaking 50 million hours to get our food . I was so hungry and frustrated. First off, I can't believe this only a 3.8/5 star place. Maybe I'm not seeing what's wrong but this was at least a 4/5 star spot for me. I ordered the Torta Regular (Carnitas for the meat choice) and an Horchata. Horchata was nice consistency, cold, and sweet. Maybe add a pinch more cinnamon? I'm not sure though, maybe don't fix what's not broken. Now the Torta, one bite in and I was in heaven. The bread was phenomenal. Everything inside was fresh and cooked well. I will criticize that one piece of carnitas was tough and I had to discard it. Also 2 tiny pieces of aluminum foil on the edge of the sandwich. You could say I'm nitpicking about the aluminum foil. Staff were friendly and constantly checking if I needed anything or if I was helped. If you've never had a Torta, this is the place to go read more

We made it here tonight for the first time for our anniversary dinner. I'm so thrilled and proud to have this gem in our community. Amazing food, the restaurant is beautiful and quaint. My husband got the torta with two tacos. His drink was Jamaica and pineapple juice, which was a recommendation and he loved it. I had two Barbacoa tacos and a fountain soda. The tacos were incredible, with LOTS of tender, great flavored meat. The menu is amazing and so hard to pick. We will be back for breakfast, since that menu looks delicious! read more

The location and new restaurant were very nice, lots of parking very clean inside. The server was very kind and attentive. The food however was not good sadly. The chips were stale tasting and the guacamole had little to no flavor. Got up to the restroom BOTH were out of toilet paper (already a bad start) The service was not the best , really slow and I had to keep asking another server that wasn't mine for things. I kept observing other tables. one table had someone from the table get up to get limes because they had been waiting for a while . Another had to raise his hand to get someone's attention. We asked if the aguas fresca were form scratch they said no just the Jamaica one. Funny thing is I saw them pouring a jug of artificial Jamaica mix into the drink dispenser . The food is decent . My kid order a side of fries that cost me almost $9 for some plain fries ! She never getting a side of fries again. We've been coming since they opened since they're conveniently located in the corner of my house! The service is fantastic when the two young guys are there .. they're fast and attentive which keeps me coming back but today there was a major hiccup, I work in the restaurant industry and I understand mistakes are bound to happen, but it's how you bounce back from it that makes a difference. I could hear from my table how the cook was yelling at my server over a mistake the COOK made with my food.. that's absolutely not ok!!! It made us feel uncomfortable and it shift the mood completely were we just paid and left with a very sour taste in our mouths. Went for the first time in the new location with my family and friends. We were all craving tortas. So why not go to a torta spot. Me and my husband ordered a regular torta with carne asada and for my son tacos de carne asada and pollo. Let me tell you that meat was salty AF! I took one bite of the torta and it felt like a cup of salt was poured down my mouth. My son couldn't even eat the taco de carne asada he said it was yucky. So he just ate the chicken one. They kindly offered another torta but by the time they came to see how our table was doing my friends already ate what they ordered. So they took one item off our bill. Not only that we asked for chips and salsa as appetizer and they had to go back and check if they had any chips left lol which was weird. The salsa was super watery.
