I've bought more pasta dishes from Cavanna Pasta than I can count on my fingers and toes. There are about a dozen different types of pasta and 1/2 a dozen sauces, lots of great vegetarian and meaty options! I love how they are at different farmers markets as I can go after work at the Penn Quarter market or catch them over the weekend near me around Falls Church, Mosaic District, and Reston. Come early because they sell out quick! I highly recommend the prepackaged Eggplant Parm, Pesto and Artichoke Cannelloni, and Marinara Spinach and Cheese Cannelloni, Spinach Tagliatelle, Cheese Pansiotti. The only dishes I don't recommend are the Gnocchi (difficult to cook), Thin Tagliatelle (thicker is better and easier to cook), and Pesto Sauce (too thick). My favorite dishes are the prepackaged baked Eggplant Parm, Pesto and Artichoke Cannelloni, and Marinara Spinach and Cheese Cannelloni. I love tossing them into the oven and within 30 minutes, viola! A delicious pipping hot Italian dish bursting with flavor. I really like how they are fail safe - you don't have to worry about overcooking pasta or buying sauce, cheese,or additional ingredients. Everything is included and those dishes are the best bang for your buck! When I'm not feeling lazy, I love cooking the fresh homemade pasta particularly the Spinach Tagliatelle and Cheese Pansiotti. The pasta is really soft and tender, it cooks al dente in a couple of minutes. It's really easy to over cook the pasta as I've done this a few times particularly for the thinner pastas. The Spinach Tagliatelle is unique pasta and thicker than fettuccine. As the spinach tagliatelli is hard to find and a top seller, I'm lucky if I get a chance to buy it before its sells out (keeping fingers crossed!) Of all the fresh pastas, the Tagliatelle has the largest serving and goes well with pesto. I really like the Cheese Pansiotti, a large ravioli stuffed with cheese and subtle garlic flavor that melts in your mouth and goes with ragu or marinara sauce. I wasn't a big of a fan of the thin tagliatelli, which is like spaghetti/bucatini, or the mini ravioli. I prefer the larger pastas. If you haven't cooked Gnocchi before, I don't recommend purchasing it. You need to cook it in under 30 seconds, I waited an extra 30 seconds and it turned into mush! To add insult to injury, I blended in the pesto sauce, which turned into mashed potato! I ended up throwing out the meal, $35 literally down the drain. Although the Pesto sauce is tasty, it comes frozen and very thick and difficult to blend in with the pasta. I recommend using it as a spread for sandwiches rather than for the pasta. I used the pesto for the thin tagliatelle, it was really hard to blend in and made the pasta congeal and clump together. The pesto sauce isn't worth $18. If you are going to eat the pasta within a week, I recommend just refrigerating them as they keep well. I don't recommend freezing the pasta as it tends to stick together. The pasta also keeps well after you cook or bake it. The pasta were good after a week. I gone to several farmers markets just to get Cavanna Pasta, they are that tasty and delicious! When you buy Pasta just made... you will never go back into a grocery store and buy "box pasta" again. Tasting is a BELIEVER... His homemade Ravioli is out of this world, and a MUST try as well. It is nice to find a "Mom & Pops" type store. He is extremely friendly, and he will tell you a lot about his pasta and how to cook it or what is the best Pasta to use for which meal... Great fresh pasta. Really good, you'll never buy store bought again. The sauces are also well made. One minor issue I have is that the pre packaged dinners are all gluten free pastas. It's a pasta shop and all the dinners are made with gluten free? They are good but I can taste the difference and would prefer to have an option for regular pasta on the dinners. It's a bit odd not to have a regular and gluten free option and just have gluten free only. Again, they are still tasty, but would be better with both choices. I agree with the yelper who also mentioned the owner can be a little grumpy seeming. He seemed a little bristly both times I've been in the shop. I'm updating to say the last time I was there, the owner was friendly and talkative. I think he's just possibly a bit shy or has a different demeanor than Americans are used to. read more

I noticed some of the reviews are positive so maybe I just caught him on bad days. I would be willing to say it might just be me but saw it with other customers too. This is a catering company/ homemade pasta retailer. Cavanna is not a restaurant where you can eat cooked food. There are no tables or anything, just a counter and some fridges/ freezers containing product. The pasta is very good quality and obviously home-made. My only complaint is with the price. We felt it was the cost was not all that cheaper than buying a cooked meal out. It was $30 for 2 pastas with 2 accompanying sauces. I just wish it was a little cheaper and then I would visit here and spend a lot more of our money with this business. Check the hours before you go. They are open at some specific hours and not open every day. read more

We came across Cavanna Pasta at the Arlington Farmers Market last weekend. We were interested, because what's better than yummy homemade pasta, and when the lady told us she'd throw in a free vodka sauce if we bought the crab ravioli, we were sold. Last night was finally crab ravioli night in our house, and all I can say is YUM. The pasta alone was fantastic - good consistency, super tasty, and so fresh. The crab stuffing was out of this world. Seasoned perfectly, and the raviolis were stuffed full - they didn't skimp on the crab meat one bit! The vodka sauce was outstanding. I really can't say anything more about that. I will absolutely be heading back to the Cavanna Pasta stand soon - I can't wait to try more of their pasta - I think next in line will be some regular noodles of some sort, followed closely by the pumpkin ravioli. read more

Right after having our daughter, we were thrown in to the chaos that is being a first time parent. Our home looked like War War III and we thought we were living in a parallel universe. We had tried to plan for the craziness and prep freezer meals but we had a couple of freezer fails. Enter Cavannas. We were able to get delicious pasta that is ready for thawing and heating. We bought a couple pastas from them. My husband enjoy the cream based variety he picked. I had the sausage pasta and it was good. In those early days of being a new mom, I was mostly eating granola bars as it was a quick bite to eat but the sausage pasta was a welcome reprieve from the monotony of granola. I would definitely recommend this place for a quick weeknight meal or even to stock up your freezer for nights where you don't have time to cook. read more

I got the eggplant Parmesan from the Bethesda farmers market. It was excellent but very expensive. A $20 serving served two of us. I would definitely make it again for a nice date night at home, but it is too pricey for a rotational meal. read more

This is one of the best pastas I've ever had! My family let Lorenzo at the Bethesda Farmers Market and we stop by now almost every week. He is so kind and a great person always making us want to come again. We've tried the porcini and spinach/cheese ravioli as well as the fettuccini all with Vodka sauce which is outstanding!!! 10/10 would recommend and come back again because it makes an amazing family dinner:)) read more

My wife and I frequently go to the Central Farm Market in Bethesda, MD, and, when there, we always head to the Cavanna Pasta stall first (because they sometimes run out of our favorite dishes). Indeed, their stuff is absolutely terrific, and it's clear that they have many regular customers like us. Since I am gluten free these days, I always pick up their gluten free meatballs, the Beef and Spinach Cannelloni, the Eggplant Parmesan, and the gluten free lasagna - all of which are absolutely delicious. Their stuff is great either for a quick "heat it up" meal for just the two of us, or (since we tend to keep plenty of it in the freezer) for guests as well. The customer service is also both friendly and excellent. Five stars. read more

I go to RedRidge Pet Market for our puppy food - great BTW! Cavanna is next door. Has been closed a couple times, but I was intrigued nonetheless. Went this afternoon, and they were open. I went in and after speaking to the owner, purchased their Eggplant Parmigiana and Artichoke Cannelloni. Had it tonight for dinner with a great Barollo, and both were delicious! Perfectly seasoned and the right amount of sauce and cheese. Husband and wife team are both elderly Italian, and very hardworking. Business is not as good as should be, so they are always at farmers' markets selling their products. If food quality matters to you, I would highly recommend this place. I came across Cavanna Pasta at the Colonial Williamsburg's Merchants Square. I am gluten free by necessity and I am always trying to find something good. Well, I was so pleasantly blown away by the taste (which isn't always the case when it comes to gluten free) that I will definitely be visiting the Merchants Square again this weekend! So far I have had the Eggplant Parmesan - sautéed eggplant, parmesan cheese, and red sauce ... a classic combination which had fantastic taste and texture. I also bought the gluten free meatballs in a tomato/onion sauce which were out of this world. WOW, I didn't know a meatball could taste sooooo good. I have the Artichoke & Pesto Cannelloni - Three rolled crepes stuffed with an artichoke/cheese mixture in a pesto béchamel sauce in the freezer and looking forward to another outstanding dish. read more
