The pizza is amazing. The atmosphere is local and cozy, and Jen and the crew make it feel like home.

We got very lucky as we chose this restaurant purely on the Yelp rating. Do not judge the business by its location, the building admittedly looks a little sketchy from the highway. Trust me, go eat. Here's the breakdown: The great: Great pizza. Nice crust, with lots of "crust bubbles." Cooked to a proper temperature to get done on the bottom. The menu offers round pizzas or square ones. We ate round, we saw square on another table. Both looked very appetizing. Generous toppings (ours was sausage, onions, and half jalapenos. So good!) Lots of tables. Very friendly folks in the open kitchen and serving. Sodas are cold, iced tea is fresh. We found out that the cook is the place's namesake Jen, and that our waitress was wither her daughter or her niece. (There was a third person behind the counter on prep, a friend of the family.) Even Jen's mom was sitting at the next table. It's nice to be in a truly family run place! The okay: Tossed salad is fine. It is very simple -- lettuce, croutons, cukes, tomatoes, onions. You can have any dressing you want as long as you want ranch or oil / vinaigrette. Speed of food prep was a bit slower than what you get used to... it seemed that the oven held one or two pizzas at a tiime, and so each order was prepped and fired before the next one was started. Not a serious delay but I cannot imagine waiting at a table on a full night. Restrooms were clean. parking was easy. The not so good: This is a minor point. The dining area is about 1 inch above the level of the kitchen/entry/main pathway. Although the edge is clearly marked and even the server gave us fair warning, it is easy to trip over. Yes, I did. Great, family run, neighborhood pizza joint. Service was perfect. Delicious garlic knots with lots of minced garlic. We had a 16" pizza with a variety of toppings that were generously applied. The crust is homemade, hand tossed and delicious. An excellent alternative to those hum-drum chain pizza places. read more

We have lived in the Fredericksburg area for over 40 years and there have been many good pizza places, but Jen's Pizza Den is certainly one of the most unique. Many good pizza places have come and gone over the years from Villa Capri to Napoletta's to Family Pizzeria to La Pizzeria (that used to be in the mall) to Basil's (Caroline Street) and while all of these places were great, they were also very similar with none really separating themselves from the pack. The same could be said for all of the current spots except for Jen's... Jen's pizza is just different. First of all, she was trained by a New Yorker and regardless of your opinion on New Yorkers one thing is true - they know how to make good pizza.The foundation of a pizza is first and foremost the crust and Jen has mastered this art. It's a light, crispy yet substantial crust - the round pizza and the square pizza are fantastic and she also offers a Sicilian which we have not tried yet. If you're looking for the standard soft, floppy pie, this ain't it. Just look at the many mouth-watering pictures posted in the gallery and I can tell you that this pizza is as good as it looks. The homemade meatballs are really good too and pretty much everything is homemade, which is the right way to do it. She opened Jen's Pizza Den in 2019, was able to survive through 2020/2021 and made it out to the other side intact. We should all be grateful that she did because we are lucky to have such a good pizza place in the Fredericksburg area that is not similar to the rest, it stands apart - a slice of New York true pizza in our town. Hopefully Jen's Pizza Den will be around for a while, but only with our support, so next time you want a pizza try something different at Jen's Pizza Den. *Pro Tip: Dine-In - enjoy a night out, eat your food fresh out of the oven, that's the way it is meant to be enjoyed. This is a difficult review. The quality of the food was very good but I have trouble comparing pizzas. We ordered the Sicilian and it was made clear when we ordered it wasn't a traditional Sicilian style. However, the crust was amazing. It was more deep dish/thick crust. Light and airy with a nice crisp on the outside made it a really good dough. Good quality ingredients made it a very good dining experience. We also had the mozzarella sticks that were nice. The marinara sauce was just ok but not a reason to drop a star from the rating. The young ladies are very nice and attentive throughout. Tried Jen's Pizza Den and let me tell you it did not disappoint. The pizza is really good along with the garlic knots. I recommend calling in and making sure if they are running behind but overall great experience. Will definitely be coming back! Highly recommend. Also really affordable read more

My husband, me and my stepdaughter tried Jen's Pizza Den today for the first time. We knew that they opened at 4pm, but got there just a little early since we had movie tickets for 5:45pm (Spiderman!). We walked in right on time, and the owner Jen came over and introduced herself and took our drink orders. My husband and I ordered unsweetened iced teas and our daughter ordered an ice water. From there, Jen's mother took over getting our order, after introducing herself. We ordered a 16 inch square pizza with pepperoni and extra cheese, then mushrooms also, on half. First off, let me say that the place was really clean, festive and old school, (which I love). The owner and her parents, both who also work there, were super friendly and welcoming. The pizza came out in a timely manner. It was more than enough for the 3 of us. It wasn't gourmet pizza, but it was a solid, decent pie. It was close to $30 before tip, for a 16 inch 2.5 topping and 2 iced teas. We'll have this again. read more

What a great little pizza restaurant, clean, well lit, and friendly. I placed a carryout order with Jen and waited while enjoying a beer and was able to chit chat with her mom who was there also, they are very down to earth and friendly and definitely want to make you feel welcomed when coming in. I ordered 2 pies both being a 12" Sicilian square pizza, the first one being a pepperoni, mushroom, and extra cheese and the other being a bacon, mushroom, and banana peppers. I also ordered 2 orders (each order is for 2 meatballs) of the homemade meatballs with marinara sauce. Since it was a carryout order I had to wait till I got home to enjoy my pies which the wife enjoyed also, the meatballs were the one thing the wife was after as she loves them. The pizzas were good and tasted great and was what I was expecting. Now with these thick pizza pies the wife and I were not going to eat it all in one sitting and had plenty of leftovers of the next day. I will say when it comes to reheating pizza from the day before I will do it but it's not the best, that was until Sunday afternoon. I heated the oven to 375 and placed the slices on a pizza stone and put them in the oven for 15 minutes and then removed them. What a fantastic pizza to reheat! The crust was still crunchy, the flavors all married together and just a great leftover lunch. Jen's pizza den is going to be my go to now even if I have to drive to pick my pizza up as it is worth it in my opinion. Ordered ahead for pickup and was told it'd be an hour since busy Friday. Fine. Tired of the usual pizza and willing to give it try. This review is based solely on the pizza itself and not that wait. ....best pizza I've had in this area. Ordered two round pizzas and appetizers. First, the crust is orders of magnitude above what you'll get from the usual. Truly good, and everyone who tried it remarked how good the crust is. Second, the blend of ingredients (we basically ordered a supreme) with the cheese blend is superb. My family all agreed this was the best pizza they'd had in this area. Ok, the sides (had garlic knots and cheesesticks) aren't phenomenal, but they're good. I wouldn't take the time to write a review about the sides but would order them again...but that pizza and that crust...best in the area. That was round pizza. Haven't tried the square, but will. Place inside is nice and quaint. I'd definitely enjoy eating in but we picked up. Will be back. read more

I've experienced this establishment twice, now. Once was carry out, we had pizza with pineapple, banana peppers and pepperoni and a cheese and pepperoni. Delicious! 4.5 stars for that day! Last night we went in to eat in, to celebrate good news a friend got. We ended up ordering four pizzas and three appetizers, i think? Between the nine of us, bc we were all separate checks, or so we thought (one person took all the checks and paid, surprisingly). From the first pizza to the last pizza being placed at our table, there was about 30 minutes. Of course my pizza was the last one to come to the table! They did try to keep us up to date with how long the last pizzas would be before they came out, but dang, i was hungry! For some reason the pizza was nowhere near as good as it was when we got carry out. It didn't seem like maybe the pineapple wasn't cooked ON the pizza and was possibly added at the end? The pineapple, dough and sauce, all had no flavor... it was so weird! And i ate 3 of my square pieces to be sure. Maybe when we got carry out, we ordered the Sicilian square? And i got a regular square last night? But i wouldn't think the Sicilian square would be THAT much different, right? I'll go again, and next time order the Sicilian to see if that's what the difference is - everyone was nice, though. This is the best pizza I've had in a very long time! The sauce was so fantastic, I asked for extra to dip my crust. My go to is their meatballs and baked spaghetti with extra sauce. If you're lucky, you'll find lasagna on the menu. Because I'm in love with her meat sauce, I ask for extra. My boys enjoy their pizza. The crust is the best. Jen has done a fantastic job! Literally the best pizza I've had in Virginia, maybe ever in my life? I got the plain cheese and it was so thin and crispy, but also chew, and HOTTT! They also have thicker pizza if that's your thing. My mom got the baked spaghetti, which was perfectly al dente with deliciously balanced meat sauce, also HOTTT!! Great pizza! We went here with family after stopping by Mellow Mushroom,which had a long wait time, and deciding to try Jen's instead. And it's honestly one of the nicest customer service experiences we've had in Virginia. They not only were attentive but extremely friendly, making small talk. Haven't experienced that since living in Oklahoma! It's very much a family business, and outer table was visited by every family member at least once to check up on us/take our order/etc. Also the pizza. I mentioned it earlier, but let me get into some more detail. We ordered a large cheese and large Hawaiian. Large size comes in 16 inches, and they place them on rotatable stands so you still have plenty of space. Friggin delicious. The dough tastes homemade and the pizza was cooked just right with none of that rubbery cheese you sometimes get at other places. My son, who is an EXTREMELY picky eater, has never in his life eaten a pizza crust. He destroyed the crust at this place. I was amazed! read more

We called an order for pick up, they didn't even start it until we arrived 25 minutes later (they said it would be ready in 20) The quality is mediocre, you'll pay almost $30 dollars for 2, 2 topping 12" pizzas (which is a medium/ smaller than you're expecting pizza) There's nothing artisan about the place or pizza, it was "bad" but I could have eaten pizza of similar quality at dominos or papa johns for half the price & better customer service. When I give 5 star reviews, it's not often. To quote a fellow yelper, 5 star reviews are earned, not freely dished out. To me, this place is getting five stars not all for food quality, but there are certain things about this place, and in one visit, a fellow customer will either overlook or fail to understand. The menu is very simple. There's maybe 12 items, and most of it is the pizza. I got a 16 inch round pie as they were out of the dough to make the smaller 13 inch one. Immediately, the owner, Ricky, got to work. Ricky makes his pies the way some people would make something they are truly proud of. He's got more pride and zeal for pizza that I have not seen in a long time. Everything on his menu is homemade with nothing frozen and all of it is fresh. He was also extremely friendly and was always trying to strike up something. Not to mention he was super confident in his own product that it almost sounded like he'd bet his own life for the sake of it. Confidence sells. And if the pizza tastes average, it's the trick that makes people want to come back to get it again. When the pizza was finished baking, he put some garnishment on it, and boxed it up. Certainly was excited to eat this. I'll start, yes, the pizza is a solid 3/5. Tastes a bit salty and the crust a bit thin. But he's got something good. The sauce is not rich, the cheese layering is perfect, and not one bit of cheese stuck to the box. If he continues, he's going to do just fine, and has already earned a fan in me. It's hard to believe I wolfed down 6 of the 8 slices! Still, it's unorthodox, but it works very well and is good, really good. Ricky, keep up the amazing work. We travel I-95 between Richmond and Baltimore often and have been wanting to try this place for a while, based on previous reviews. Ours is going to be mixed. On the plus side - It's a pretty little place, very clean. The owner and his family are such nice people. He came to the table to ask how everything was and when he found out this was our first visit, he gave us a complementary meatball. As others have said, the meatballs are really tasty. Our side salads were super fresh as well. On the minus side - the pizza tastes good. We're fans of thin crust and this one was just right. Unfortunately, ours was a little over cooked for our taste, the cheese a little too browned. We also split a baked spaghetti. Given the choice, we chose the meat sauce over the marinara. It was underwhelming. Something tells me the marinara would have been better. There was, however, a decent amount of cheese baked on top. Truly disappointing was the dinner roll that came with it (no garlic bread??) that was obviously microwaved - yuck. Finally, there are only 2 choices of salad dressings, ranch and Italian. I really wanted to love this place, instead it was just 'meh. We probably won't venture off the highway to this one again. read more

We have passed the restaurant many times in its former iterations, and based upon a few of the reviews we saw we decided to stop in last week and get carry out. First off the service was very friendly and it was easy to order, something that I have found to not be the case when I want a pepperoni pizza but all the pepperoni on one half (not half Pepperoni) at most establishments. The place itself was very clean and inviting. The pizza had a thin hand tossed crust, and I got the 16 in. square which was definitely enough for two meals for my wife and I. While thin, it has a nice chew, with just the outermost edge being crunchy. There is a comforting yeast flavor that reminds you this is homemade not some restaurant service product. The tomato sauce has a nice herbal flavor with slight acidity and a VERY light sweetness, not really sweet like the other place that has square pizza (not knocking them, I get a hankering for it now and then, too LOL). The pepperoni and cheese were also really good quality and tasted great. One amazing aspect of this pizza was how well it reheated. It was literally better than most pizzas are that come hot from the oven when we reheated it the next day. I'm hoping this place is here to stay and I look forward to trying the Sicilian pizza as well as the other menu options. I tried Jen's for the first time tonight and I am glad that I stopped in! The pepperoni and sausage pizza was delicious and was obviously homemade with fresh ingredients. I had the lemoncello cake for dessert and it was to die for! This is a small family run business with a very friendly atmosphere and I felt right at home as a first time customer. Jen and her dad were working behind the counter and her daughter did a great job waiting my table and making sure I had a great dining experience. I had a friendly conversation with Jen and her dad as I paid my check and told them that I would definitely be back. Stop in and give Jen's a try and you won't be disappointed! read more
