We made an agreement with one of the employees to let my dog stay for 3 days. But, Andrew had different wants and he muzzled him and left him in the prison to rot. When my dog first started coming here she had unfortunate accident while playing and hurt her knee, the owner immediately contacted me and even comped us daycare visits. We first started using LA dogworks during the lockdown when we had to temporarily relocate to Weho and quarantine for work with our coworkers in the same corporate housing for 5 months. We ofcourse brought our Aussie with us and needed a daycare for her. After interviewing and looking at a ton of places in the area (and there are ALOT)- I was really disappointed in my options until a dog walker I met told me about LA dogworks. We love everything about LA dogworks so much that even though we have LONG since moved home to Pasadena, which is a 45 minute drive each way, we drive our 2 dogs all the way to Hollywood to make sure they're in the care of this amazing facility and staff for daycare, boarding, training and grooming. I've read a ton of negative reviews specifically about the owner and quite frankly- all I can say is: have you never met anyone from New York? Get a thicker skin! Andrew is incredible, he's a true dog lover, he adores our dogs and all the dogs that come to him, he's great with his staff and he hires only the best people who ALL treat your fur children as if they were their own. He is NOT a sugary-kiss-your-ass kind of guy. I lived in NYC for 20 years. To me, he's like being home. Hands down the cleanest- most cutting edge sanitization styled facility that I've ever found and the BEST people there that you can TRUST to care for your fur kids (yes, including Andrew). I can't recommend LA Dogworks enough! PS: I actually am a real client. PSS:I haven't seen The Profit - but I am a reality television executive producer. I've used their grooming services several times over the past two months, but when I called to be squeezed in the next day, the groomer Maddie said if he's too matted, she would not be able to groom him, and I agreed. However, when I picked my dog up, this unlicensed person shaved all of my dog's hair off, which is ignorant, disrespectful, and flat out stupid because it's wintertime. She took the unauthorized authority to decide what was best for my dog. Not only did I feel like she discriminated against me, but she thought her work was good. It's not. She's terrible. I called a better dog groomer in the area, and she was horrified and stated that they have a policy of consulting with the owner and training them on the proper maintenance of this breed's fur. It's terrible because as much as I liked the establishment, I have no faith in them. Also, she knicked my dog's penis during this butcher-fest and never informed me; shame my sweet boy was in discomfort until I spotted it. I have brought my dog, Raya, here for daycare and boarding. When I first got her, she was recently spayed (still with cone) and I had to work. I didn't want to leave her alone all day and they were so accommodating for her. They made sure she was looked after and limited her activity levels in a separate area. I just recently boarded her for 5 days and they returned her freshly bathed (she is all white, so I am super grateful for this!! we usually bathe her at home, so I am unsure how she did being groomed by someone else, but this was super helpful). I have never had any poor interactions with the staff, they always answer the phone immediately, and my pup always comes back properly tuckered out. At home, she is used to being kenneled when not supervised, occasional meals, and for sleeping, so this is something to keep in mind. We have brought her to a cage free boarding place before, and her return was not nearly as healthy as her return from LA Dog Works. She basically collapsed from overstimulation and play at the competitor, but when being picked up from LA dog works, she seems well exercised and content. Just keep your dogs needs in mind when choosing a place. Not a big deal, but something to be conscious of, her paws do occasionally have some black sticky stuff (I am thinking from running on the K9 grass?) between the fingers, which she had licked at a lot to, what I assumed, try to get off and groom herself. It made them pretty irritated (but she also licks her paws a lot from allergies so the combination made it a tad worse) so just something to be wary of with longer haired dogs. A paw trim before going might be helpful for you to do. Nonetheless, satisfied with the care of the team and their dedication to the dogs. read more

We've been taking our dogs here for almost 4 years now for both Daycare and Boarding. Our dogs are our children and we drive 30-40 min each way to take them here because we trust the staff and the faculty that much. Don't be fooled by negative reviews about people's feelings and personalities. The fact is our dogs are happy, safe, and loved while they're at LA Dogworks. My husband and I were evacuated from our home in Malibu due to the Woolsey Fires and we called LA Dog Works and Andrew offered to let the Dogs stay the two nights for free (for evacuees). Andrew is seriously the nicest being there is. He is so knowledgeable about dogs and literally trained my dog in a minute! They went to from timid and scared to excited and licking it face. LA Dogworks is great. For 4 big reasons... let's run through them, shall we? 1) Communication. This is a big one. Transparency and reliability at LA Dogworks is miles better than competition. Getting in contact with them is never an issue as it has been with services like Wag. Part of the reason is the fact that they are privately owned. I took my little guy in for an evaluation to get a feel for his mannerisms. Believe this is standard for all dogs. During the evaluation Andrew came out and walked me around the facility explaining the care and thought that went into designing and selecting the amenities, facilities, and staff at LA Dogworks. Believe this is also an opportunity to learn and sell training programs as well. 2) Accommodations. I had a special case with a 6 month old puppy that Dogworks' competitors either didn't have a policy in place to accommodate or wanted to nearly double charge for "special treatment." This was not the case at Dogworks. LA Dogworks had a great policy that allows for dogs up to 7 months to be intact while being able to play with other dogs and get the socialization that is necessary for developing puppies. 3) Price. Their prices are better than most if not all competitors. 4) Care. These folks care about your dogs. My dog was taken care of and after a long 4 day stay with them looked great. You could see he had had fun, was taken care of, and happy. Give these guys a go. They'll take care of your puppo(s). read more

Honestly, I was a little scared to come here after reading a lot of the reviews. But to my surprise, it was a very pleasant and speedy experience. We brought our dog in for a quick nail trim and 'backdoor' cleaning. The staff was really friendly and super helpful. We didn't have to make an appointment, so walk ins welcome. Though I should say, that was just for a quick trip, I'm not sure if the same applies for a full grooming, I'd call to be safe. Not even two minutes after walking in, Peaches was taken back for her nail clipping and 'backdoor' cleaning. We could see here through the class window, and the technician was very friendly, I wish I had gotten her name. Why not five stars? First the smell. It didn't smell like dog or pee or anything, it was more of a flower or some other scent that was really over powering. But again, I suppose it's better than wet dog and pee! The other 'downfall' (I use that word lightly) was that I thought twenty-five dollars was a little steep for a nail clipping, and they said they couldn't do much with the other cleaning. But still was a little more than I was expecting, but the service was fine and everyone was very friendly. I will definitely be back again. read more

My dog loves LA Dogworks so much that he pushes me out of the way to get to his friends inside. Honestly, I would love to join him at a place that makes him so happy. The facility is also great. It is clean and spacious and the dogs look like they are having a fantastic time. My dog Bowie is an enthusiastic lab and the LA Dogworks crew know when he needs a break. LOVE the staff. I have taken my two dogs for doggie day care to LA Dogworks about 5 times. Once they sent my Ginger back with a report card saying she needed time out. She was chasing another dog around. They said they gave her about 10 - 15 minute time out and she was fine after that. I have taken both my dogs there after that incident and they told me there was no problem. Which brings me to last week when I called and Emily told me that Ginger is no longer welcome in the dog park because she's too much trouble. She said maybe after the holidays when its not so busy they can work something out. I waited till the 5th of January to call and ask if I can bring my two dogs back and Emily said I would have to speak with Andrew.. She said Andrew would call me back "very soon". I waited an hour an a half and never received a call. I called back and Aiden said that Andrew and Emily were discussing the matter and he Promised me one would call back momentarily. It is now Saturday mid afternoon and no one has called me back. This is awful customer service. Not sure why they decided they didn't want my business anymore but to treat a repeat customer who has spent hundreds of dollars there in the past year is inexcusable. It's inexcusable to treat anyone with such disrespect regardless of what we spent there. There is a reason they have so many one star reviews. That's what they deserve. And Andrew please stop using that tired excuse that I must of seen the episode of whatever that show is called. I never heard of that show. Shame on both Emily and Andrew. Not nice. UPDATE. Just read this response from the owner (who I've never even had a conversation with) - and also just saw I received a private message from him - asking me to remove my review and again stating that I'm "lying." That's convenient. Only what possible incentive would I have to lie? I'm a screenwriter, not the owner of some competing doggy joint. This is- in fact-- the only negative review I've ever written on Yelp. Meanwhile, all someone from LA DogWorks (or himself) had to do is call, email, text---whatever---and ask how my dog was doing after the incident .... and this review would have never happened. That's the right thing to do-- at least pretend to have concern about the animals in your care. But this owner simply ignores the fact that no one from his doggy loving doggy store had the slightest concern for a dog that they HURT and instead tries to divert the attention towards what an (imaginary) terrible customer i was. Let's say in some alternate reality I was actually this terrible customer, would that somehow make it okay to hurt a dog and then not even freaking check in to see how that dog was doing? As for the incident and calling me a liar -- I suppose I could scan a copy of the vet bills and files associated with my dogs injury, as well as the email I wrote to him. He says they put up with my "excuses, my rudeness, my disrespect" Talk about creating things out of thin air. First off, I was the paying customer - why would I ever need to make excuses about anything to anyone there? Not to mention, before this incident I never had any sort of issue with anyone in his staff (or much interaction at that). I was even nice enough to not mention the actual groomers name in the original review...yet the owner did in his response. ha. When I first moved back to LA I was looking for a daycare and boarding facility. I tried LA Dog Works a few times and was VERY disappointed (guess I am not the only one based on other reviews). I was drawn to the facility because of the proximity to my home and the press on their website. Mistake. The facility is staffed by a bunch of kids who just see this as a job and couldn't care less about you or your dog. The turn over in staff is very high, it is so chaotic and disorganized, no one is knowledgeable and your trying to talk to a bunch a yahoos that you are frightened to leave your dog in their care. It's like the owner just checked out. Yes, it's a nice facility and it is open 24 hours, but everything else sucks! Stay away from this place and go to Canine Cabana. read more

I'm amazed that the owner is commenting on every negative review. I understand his desire to correct misconceptions, but the snarky comments I could do without. My dog did get an ear infection (his first one) after being groomed at LA Dogworks in 2010. I did speak to someone about it, but it was dismissed out of hand. I didn't demand money back, I just took my business elsewhere. I still maintain that the grooming is exceedingly expensive compared to where my dog is now groomed. I have never been so disappointed in a business in my life. I had been bringing my dog here for 6 months and loved that I could pick up and drop off any time because my job sometimes requires long hours. There were always some questionable elements if this place. My dog loves EVERYONE, but didn't seem to like this place and he would always be returned to me so thirsty. The final straw was a night I came in late to pick him up. No one was working in the front so I wandered back to find someone. What I found was my friendly lovable pup wearing a muzzle tied to a wall. I was horrified and near tears when I asked the worker if he was normally kept like this (would explain why he's always so thirsty). His reply made me sick: " your dog was barking when he was playing with the other dogs and I was trying to produce music in the back and couldn't handle the barking." ummm, I'm sorry. I left my dog here over the Thanks Giving weekend 4 days total when i went to pick him up he reeked of urine his bedding was soaked in urine. He was really quiet and lethargic which is not like him at all when the lady that works there handed him to me she told me oh he ran out of wet food so we gave him his dry food. MY DOG DOESNT EAT OR HAVE WET FOOD!!!!! Never in his life has he been given wet food if this wasn't a red flag the fact that he had no voice and was horse for 2 weeks was the final straw for me. My dog sounded horrible for 2 weeks after that when i took him to his groomer of 5 years she tells me "he tried to bite me he's never done this before he was scared to be put in the kennel". I have been leaving my dog here for boarding for a couple years now, however his previous stay will be his last. As a result of his stays at LA Dogworks, I have found dead cockroaches in my dogs food. I buy high quality food (Blue Buffalo) and the nature of their manufacturing process makes it impossible for something like this to occur on their end during production. I spoke to the owner Andrew on the phone, and he confirmed that they previously have spotted cockroaches in their facility. He stated they attempted to prevent them by placing the food in sealed containers. This hasn't solved the issue. Besides this, I have encountered no other issues with them as a long time client. I am now looking for a alternative facility as I feel it poses a health risk to my dog. read more

The Owner of LA Dogworks acted-out with extreme hostility toward me. My puppy seemed lifeless when I came to pick him up, resulting in urgent veterinary care. I will probably never know what happened to my puppy, except that I witnessed him kept in a small cage, with a row of other dogs in similar conditions. Andrew is in no position to condescend to anyone - especially not the overly-trusting pet owners who pay his bills. I had to warn Andrew, when he stalked me outside a competitor's dog hotel, that I will not tolerate his personal attacks, defamation, or stalking. He actually followed me and my puppy into our new doggie daycare business and shouted some outlandish lies about me. Then Andrew followed me out onto the street and up to my car, demanding to know why I left him "one star" on an oline review. Under California State law, I have the right to leave this online review. I had to rush my puppy to the vet for a kennel cough after his stay at LA Dog works (I have the vet bill and prescriptions to prove this). My puppy was almost lifeless, and at risk of pneumonia. In violation of my instructions for my puppy's care, my puppy was confined at LA Dogworks to a row of small cages crowded with the bigger dogs "not allowed" in the indoor park area. This was not what I paid for! In addition, I discovered that my puppy was being walked out on Highland Avenue: too risky! I am so hurt, I have not yet been able to write my full review! Disclaimer: I am not a paying customer. I merely went for the free evaluation as I was considering their day care and boarding services. I spent 30 minutes here, so my review is solely based on that short experience. But with that said, a few things happened in that short period that swayed me from not returning. Upon entering, the place is REALLY nice. Beautiful facility. I was really impressed. The lady at the front counter was very nice and helpful. So my experience started off really nice. It wasn't until my dog and myself were taken into the back to test her out with other dogs where things seemed to bother me. 1.) I was placed in the kitchen which had a window that looked out into the dog area so I can watch my dog interact with the other dogs. The workers there were removing a bunch of dogs out of the area. Unsure why, but seemed like a standard practice. All of a sudden, my room was flooded with dogs as someone left the gate open and a bunch of dogs escaped and were running free throughout the facility. 2.) In this moment, there were two male workers who didn't seem to hide their frustration, even in front of me. I heard one of them say "I'm going to kill this dog, I swear" multiple times as he picked up the escaped dogs and put them into a separation room. 3.) The owner, Andrew, met me in the observing room. For the record: super nice. But I can tell he has a quick temper. The female worker that was observing my dog in the play area tried making a suggestion to him (because my dog wasn't quite getting along with one of the dogs), he quickly shushed her. These 3 moments made me feel oddly weird at the place as if there was something else going on. Most likely all in my head, but I saw enough that made me not feel very comfortable leaving my dog there. So I decided to leave... immediately. I can see on the female workers face -- she knew why -- but I lied and said I was in a hurry to get somewhere. Sorry. On the way out, Andrew highly suggested a martingale collar with a chain. Not sure what all the bad reviews are all about for LA Dogworks. I've taken my 2 yr old Cavalier King Charles puppy, Abby there for grooming and daycare. The place always smells fresh and clean, the employees are sweet and happy, and the owner was nice and professional with me. The groomer did a great job on Abby's cut and nail trimming and she smelled wonderful. Abby is a bit shy when it comes to socializing with other dogs, but she is hanging out with other small dogs and building her confidence and social skills. She's warming up nicely and looks forward to going there. She actually gets excited, which is amazing to see! read more

Forewarning: this is a review having never been able to take my dog to use their services for reasons you will see below. When I got my pup a few short months ago, I was excited at the prospect of eventually being able to take her to doggie day care. I'd heard mixed things about LA Dogworks (see other reviews), but as it's convenient to where I live and work, I thought I would give them a call and feel them out. After being told that they are open 24hrs (convenient) and that I could come in between 7am and 7pm for a "short evaluation" before leaving her for the day, I decided to try them the very next morning. I gave myself an additional 30min for this evaluation and arrived to find that 45min is needed. Sadly, I didn't have that time, so I was forced to rush home as fast as possible to leave the pup with my roommate in order to get to work on time. On the second day I arrived a full hour earlier than I needed (7am), just in case, and was told that I needed to make an appointment, and they begin at 930am. I would have gladly made an appointment, but the information received during both my phone call and visit suggested that I would be fine to just show up. I'd have loved to use this service, but three attempts to give them business is about my limit. read more

LOVE THIS PLACE! I've been bringing my dog Pearl here for several months now and I can't say enough good things about LA Dogworks :) The staff is always super nice and attentive. I work long hours and I love that there is always someone there 24/7 so I can pick up and drop off whenever I want without worrying that I need to make it by a certain time. The dog care world in LA is so twisted thanks to Yelp. I actually did follow the advice of fellow "yelpers" and took my 5 month old red heeler to two other "high rated" doggie daycare places in LA and they were creepy. This place is CLEAN and WELL MAINTAINED. It is the first daycare that Layla hasn't come home thirsty. When I watched her run and play in the huge, "grass" covered space, she looked wonderfully happy. Yes, the prices are a little higher, but, my personal preference, is to pay for quality. What I learned from this process is don't listen to anyone on Yelp. Don't even listen to me. Go visit them individually. You'll see (and smell) the difference. These doggy daycare wars on Yelp are pathetic and misleading. read more

I dont know what seems to be the problem here, but it definitely seems outside of the scope of the actual facility. The place is great. Both my dogs go there regularly and they are well taken care of. Boarding and day-care can be harrowing for any pet, so people, if the dog seems a bit skittish, that is because your life is too busy to be able to be with him the whole time. It is a trade off. That being said, my dogs LOVE it there. They play and play and come home tuckered. When I go back they are pulling into the doorway with excitement. I dont do grooming there, so I can not comment on that. As for boarding, it is safe, secure and not too expensive. Of course your pet will be a little bummed. You left him somewhere else. What counts is they are safe, cared for and loved. The staff is really dog-lovers and they have really adopted my pets as their day-time kids. Some pet owners freak over every little thing, and I understand that, but lets all remember they are dogs who just want to give and receive love, so if they smell like a dog park because YOU had to drop them there.... is that really that bad? Methinks not. I have not been to other ones in LA, so I cant comment or speak on any others, but because i really do love the staff, why would i try? It looks like there are some back and forths between them and another company. I am a real yelper (though admittedly i tend to read, not review) so my review is one of experience and not tit for tat. I took my "yummy bunny" there to have her nails clipped, and they did a really good job. ( Wired Hair Daschund/Terrier Mix) It was really clean so there weren't any weird smells so I was really impressed. The front desk was extremely nice. There was a young lady working at the desk, I didn't get her name but she had her own dog with her who was blind. Awww, he was so cute and she was super nice to me but there was a guy working with her but he didn't have much of a personality. I thought he just took a sleeping pill that's how blah he was but the nice young lady over shadow him so no biggie.. Also, the young lady who cut my baby's nails was really nice as well, sorry I didn't get her name because I like giving recognition. I would most likely try other services in the future. read more
