I've been coming to La Eda's all my life. I left the area for 30+ years and recently returned. It hasn't changed a bit -- in a good way! It still is hands down the BEST Italian food I've ever had!!! And that's saying something because I've had Italian food in South Philadelphia, Little Italy in New York City, Little Italy in Baltimore, the Italian Club in Las Vegas, and hundreds of other Italian restaurants around the country. Portion sizes here are amazing and the prices are fair for what you get. The Gnocchi and Cheese Ravioli "half and half" is to die for! The service is excellent, including some servers who were there 30 years ago. I've never had a bad meal here. It's always the same, perfect! Do yourself a favor, experience La Eda's now because you never know in the run down Mon Valley...it could become the next great place that is here today and gone tomorrow like so many other great businesses from previously here. read more

Italian restaurants build their reputations on their sauces, and it's here that La Eda's fails miserably. I've lived in NY most of my life and maybe I got spoiled but the sauce here is no better than most cheap jarred sauces you would buy in a supermarket. Sugar is used with a heavy hand, making them too sweet. When making red sauce, sugar is supposed to be used to reduce acidity, and only a pinch. Way overdone here, couldn't eat it. Their wedding soup is very good, their salads fresh but overloaded with lettuce. Not impressed at all. read more

I really enjoyed eating here. The decor is rustic Italian and the food is very very good. I ordered the manicotti with a side salad. There was nothing about the food to complain about. The only reason I took one star away was due to the really slow service. Once we ordered, it took almost 40 minutes for it to arrive, and then waiting for the check took almost as long. I would love to come back to eat here again, but fingers crossed they move a little quicker. read more

Authentic Italian at its hometown finest. The half and half was amazing. Homemade gnocchi and raviolis. This hidden gem only takes cash but it's worth the ride through dying monesson. I have been to this place at least four times in the last five years as part of a large group, a few other times by myself or in a small group. The experience varies. They have handled the large groups well, having an event menu for us, allowing an open bar, and the service was good and timely, considering. On my own or as part of a small group, not so much. The service was slow - at best - and with no apologies for it, either. Once, about five years ago, I was there with my colleague, the chair of our search committee and our candidate for the open position (party of four). There was also a large group that came in while we were there. We waited 45 minutes for our food, while the large group was getting served, which put us behind for meeting with the search committee afterward. I think this is poor management on their part, to say the least. When I have been there on my own, the service was slow, the food was just OK. People in other reviews have raved about the food, but I think the sauce is bland and so are the meatballs. They do make a good chicken parm. I have never witnessed the owner or manager yelling at employees in front of customers, but that is inexcusable. That they do not accept credit/debit cards is another hassle, easily remedied by putting in an ATM, but NO! I do not know who they think their clientele is, but more people all the time are not carrying cash, and those who only pay cash for everything are dying off. Adapt or die, people! read more

This was a nice surprise to stumble upon. We had just moved into the valley and had to find a quick place to eat. It took awhile for our food to come out but we were happy when it did. We are fussy about our Italian sauce/gravy and theirs was very good. We had manicotti, gnocchi, meat raviolis, and meatballs. Everything was obviously made in house rather than boxed or frozen. The bread and salad were so so. The portions were substantial for the price so it was well worth the visit (we will go again!). read more

To state right off no one makes a better red spegetti sauce than me. No bull. I refined my Mother's recipe and I therefore hardly ever need to eat in Italian restaurants. However, I met an old high school friend for dinner here and must say I would come back. I nearly always get spaghetti when going to an Italian restaurant for the first time. This is my test dish and Edna's passed. If they can't pass on basic spaghetti I don't return. (By the way , white spaghetti with sauce clumped on top is a sacrilege.) Second test is price. I never will pay $15+ for a plate of pasta. Period. Third is portion size. I expect to roll out of the place or box some for home. Note, I do not care about service, if the servers smiles, is rude, forgets things. I say grow the hell up! Waited almost 15 minutes after we were seated for our waitress and then she walked by and said "i will Be with you shortly" .... 2 more tables were seated and our waitress STILL didn't get our drink order..... finally as we were getting ready to walk out, an older lady came to take our drink order and also the food order..... ordered a glass of wine with a glass of water also and had to ask two more times for the water .... food was delicious but the wait staff needs a lot of work !!!! read more

Loved our meals! Great homemade Italian food. Appetizers, salads, and entrees. Outstanding sauce. Had half gnocchi/ravioli and they are nice enough to offer the ravioli portion half meat/cheese. Wow! Driving from Bucks County, Pa to hunt in Ohio, I found this gem on Yelp! Thank you very much Yelpers!!! We needed a good meal and got a great one. I had chicken parmesan sandwich that was great! We also ordered fried chicken which was so good and crispy, but not at all greasy. The pasta is made in the kitchen daily. No kidding the gnocchi was wonderful. I have to say this is the closest to my Grandmother's Italian cooking as it gets. My Grandmother was born in Italy and moved to Belle Vernon. My Father and I rave about this restaurant. All of the food is made from scratch and nothing is processed. The prices are extremely affordable as well for the portion size. Food is awesome, service is sub-par. As stated, the food isn't the issue, service is. Have been going to La Eda's since the early 90's. Lately the service has been slow (From filling original order, providing any assistance once meal has been delivered, or rendering bill), incomplete orders (they forgot my soup again), one glass of water during our meal isn't nearly enough to dine on and the waitress never stopped often enough to ask for more (or where my soup was). Took forever to get the bill and then no one in attendance at the register. Fortunately had exact change and just left it on the counter. I visited La Eda's a couple days ago with a friend and as local italian restaurants go it is ok. I wouldn't call the ingredients fresh. I ordered the meat ravioli (lunch portion). You get 6 for $10.00. The food was slightly warm but not hot and the service was extremely slow. My friend and I observed the waitress walking back and forth as if forgeting something. The ravioli was not homemade and tasted as though it came from a frozen bag you could buy at a grocery store. My friend ordered the chicken sandwhich which was served on a hamburger bun and the breaded chicken appeared to be something you can buy at Jacee Foods in Charleroi from a frozen box. My friend did not find it very tasty and described the potato chips it came with as generic and not very good. We also ordered the zucchini planks (four large planks for $6.00 served with red sauce). There was more breading than zucchini which were long and paper thin slices. Again, you could buy better ones at Jacee Foods and eat them at home. I inquired about the gnocchi and was told they are made from potato flakes and flour. Really?! I expect a restaurant chef to prepare this dish from scratch using real potatoes . The waitress informed me that it is a popular dish but I know I can make real gnocchi's at home. They are quite pricey at this establishment so why bother ordering them if the chef can't be bothered to create cuisine from scratch. I've heard a lot of good things about La Eda's so I decided to take my out of town boyfriend there when he came to visit. It was the first time either of us had been there. First, the service was terrible. Our server was absolutely one of the most unpleasant people I've ever had wait on me. She didn't smile once, and was very unfriendly. Second, the food was AWFUL. My boyfriend and I are both proudly Italian, and grew up with homemade Italian food. This food was NOT homemade Italian food. My boyfriend had watered down sauce that had to have come from a jar. His gnocchi were extremely doughy, and the ravioli tasted like frozen ravioli you can buy at the store. I got the chicken alfredo. It was the worst alfredo sauce I've ever had--tasted like jarred sauce. Not only that, but there was fried chicken on top...not grilled. I've never had fried chicken on alfredo before. The chicken wasn't homemade either..it came from a frozen bag of fried chicken. Last, they don't take cards! It's 2015, who doesn't take cards? Luckily, I happened to have a little cash on me, but I normally don't so we got lucky there. I would not recommend going here if you've ever had REAL homemade Italian food. read more

Went up to visit my son's grandparents and we all went out to dinner on Saturday night. Not real impressive from the outside, but has a festive, fun look inside. We had been there one other time so we knew what to expect...SOME OF THE MOST OUTSTANDING ITALIAN FOOD YOU'LL EVER HAVE at EXTREMELY AFFORDABLE PRICES!! We had set reservations, so we got in with no fuss, if you are going on weekends highly recommend you do the same. Now on to the food: Appetizers of note are the Pepperoni Rolls and the Awesome Blossom--their house salad is a great starter and the house dressing is excellent. Wanted to try something different this time, but I went with the tried and true Assorted Platter which consists of Ravioli, Gnocchi and a huge meatball. You talk about comfort food, sauce is outstanding, ingredients are fresh and the taste is excellent. We just wish we had a restaurant like this in the DC metro area....course if we did, we would never be able to get in, excellent-value restaurants have a way of doing that!! Service was absolutely horrendous!!!! If I could give a negative star, I would. The waiter was slow and never checked on us, even when she was bringing us our food. She was chewing gum the entire time she was taking our order and not to mention you could smell alcohol on her breath. She served us the wrong food and we asked nicely if she could have it fixed and she gave us an attitude and said and I quote "NO, not now" so we asked for a manager and she gave my girlfriend a snobby look and didn't even let my girlfriend finish asking for a manager and then she walked away with an attitude and came back about 4mins later and slammed my Pepsi down and said "the manager said she would take care of it THIS TIME FOR YOU" with the worst attitude I have ever heard or seen. Worse than my 6 year old. After she said that she grabbed up our food with attitude and stormed off. We we're so annoyed and upset at this point we left without out our food and said never again. Their food is out of this world, best chicken Alfredo i've ever had. my husband tries different things every time and it always is delicious. their portions are HUGE, I can usually only eat 1/4 of it and the rest I have to take home. house salads are also huge and amazing, tons of cheese and the best house dressing. i usually only go during the weekdays in the afternoons, in the evening they are usually packed sometimes you will wait a little but its definitely worth it. just ordered take out from there for tonight! its a little hidden gem. very reasonably priced, for the person that said its an independent olive garden, olive gardens prices are a few dollars more per meal and you get about half as much. doesn't even compare! read more

First time we been here. Food was terrible. We got the meat ravs with small salads. The sauce was not the greatest. The meatball tasted like dog food. The ravs tasted like generic store bought ravs. Salads were ok but we had better. Service was terrible. We waited like 35 minutes just for our ravs! We can get faster service at McDonald's on a busy day compare to here. Most importantly the owner was yelling at her waitress. She was slow but a nice person. The owner brought our food in a disrespectful way. The owner shouldn't yell at her staff like this specially in front of customers. The waitress was crying and the owner does not care about her staff. She should have more people working because one person cannot handle the job. I do not know how her staff can put up working here. I love this restaurant. My fiance and I go in very often to eat and we always enjoy or meal. My fav is the HOMEMADE cheese raviolis and the house salad. The portions are very large and very reasonably priced. Their house dressing is to die for and always pleases. The meals are very large my fiance and I usually split a meal and it feels us both. Their sauce is excellent as well. And for the staff, most of the bartenders and waitresses are pleasant and kind, however there are a few that are slow, rude and very unpleasant. Other then that I love this place and will continue to dine there frequently. And for those who say there food comes from a bag or box.. You are way wrong. I know a few people who have worked there and everything pasta wise is 100% homemade. Now as far as sandwiches go idk about that but everything else is prepared fresh.
