3.5 stars. Long, detailed review... Arlecchino Ristorante is a casual-elegant Italian restaurant that is uniquely inside a one-room schoolhouse that was built in 1907. This restaurant is open for dinner and catering for dining in and takeout. It has many of the same menu items as its excellent sister restaurant Alla Famiglia. Each meal includes bread and oil, optional appetizers (e.g., meatball and mussels diavolo), a first course of salad and pasta, the chosen main course (e.g., chicken marsala, cacciatore, veal chop, and filet mignon), and then if desired dessert. Alcoholic beverages (e.g., cocktails, wines, and beers) are also available. For my husband's and my wedding anniversary, I made a reservation for Arlecchino through OpenTable. We arrived shortly after they opened for the day. Our first impressions: Valet was required for our vehicle. We felt interested in seeing the exterior and remodeled interior of the schoolhouse. Most of the restaurant was empty then, but the seating hostess took us to the worst table--the smallest table inches from the front door. I requested a different table, and she then gave us a much better one. OpenTable had said that the dress code was business casual, but other customers wore casual clothes, and a hostess wore shorts and a baggy sweatshirt hoodie. Our names were written on a chalkboard above the kitchen and on my menu but not my husband's menu. Our waiter provided timely service and spoke courteously with us. (If you are wondering how to pronounce the restaurant's name, he told me something like are-lee-kee-no or our-lee-key-no.) Here are my ratings for what my husband and I ate: Autumn Spritz - 4 stars - This spritz contained apple cider, Marie Brizard Apry, prosecco, and soda, and I liked its flavors. Smoked Provolone - 2 stars - Smoked provolone was topped with black truffles and arugula. Neither my husband nor I liked this appetizer. I took two bites, and he tried to eat half. Casa Salad - 4.5 stars - This salad consisted of mixed greens, roasted peppers, raisins, walnuts, olives, gorgonzola, and slightly too much vinaigrette. Caesar Salad - 4.5 stars - My husband ate this salad, and he said that it was his favorite food in the entire meal. Cavatappi Alla Vodka - 4 stars - My husband ate this pasta, and I took one bite, and I thought that it tasted good. Cacio E Pepe - 4 stars - Months ago at Alla Famiglia, we loved the locatelli romano cheese wheel at the tableside, so we felt excited to try it at Arlecchino. The waiter definitely mixed the linguini, cream, oil, and pepper in the cheese wheel. This cacio e pepe tasted good but not as great as what we remember from Alla Famiglia. Halibut - 3.5 stars - My main course was this special menu item. The halibut tasted bland but was served with black-tiger shrimp, carrots, tomatoes, zucchini, cauliflower, and butternut squash that added some nice flavors. I did not know the price for this fish until I saw the bill, and it was $72. Veal monzu - 4 stars - The veal was nicely breaded and fried and topped with mozzarella, jumbo lump blue crab, pine nuts, and lemon butter. My husband ate it, and my one taste-test bite indicated that it was flavorful. My husband was not interested in trying dessert, so we skipped it. Our total bill was $178 plus tax, tip, and a credit-card surcharge. Comparatively, I think that Alla Famiglia has significantly better food, but Arlecchino is worth a try. read more

$80 steak was cold. Pasta sides were excellent. Chicken dish was average. Ambience water condensation was dripping on us and the table. It was brought to the managers attention. Manager went into a long explanation of why which we didn't care about. Manager said would get us a complementary drink which never happened. Service was average. I was near the neighborhood and looked up on Yelp for a recommendation and this restaurant came up as a sophisticated option. Parking is tight, but there is valet. I found a spot on the street. The building is a former school, which makes it interesting. It was busy on a Friday, but I was able to find a seat at the bar upstairs. I find it bizarre that sophisticated restaurants have sports screens at the bar. If you're sitting at the bar, there's nothing else for you to look at. Not in the mood for sports? This is not the place for you. I was surprised that an Italian place like this did not have a good Barbera wine on the menu. Bartender gave me some recommendations and I thought I was getting a sip to try, but he just brought the whole glass. I liked it so no worries there. I ordered the breaded zucchini as an appetizer and a meal. There were four pieces. But they are stuffed with goat cheese, and it just felt too rich. It's OK if you're in a group, but in my case, two pieces was all I could handle. For dessert, I had the banana crème brûlée, which was OK . I would not order it again. Food is spectacular (especially in the food desert of the south hills). Service is always excellent and so is the wine menu. Order anything and you'll enjoy, but you will be taking food home. Salad and pasta come with every main course and if you get an app(meatball, banana peppers, greens and beans, etc) you'll be stuff before the mains come out. Have a choice of pasta but my favorite is the standard vodka sauce...and definitely pour some of the Calabrian chili oil over it. They are well known for their massive veal chops but I prefer the seafood diavola(which is generally available) or a classic parm (due to the size).. If I do go veal I prefer the pizzaiola. And no matter how full you are get the raspberry tiramisu. And don't worry there are always specials so many of these will be available most of the time. read more

Arlecchino was absolutely phenomenal! My boyfriend made reservations for my birthday and from the second we made it to valet (yes! They have valet parking!) the service was exceptional! They started off by handing us menus - mine was personalized with my name since it was my birthday! Such a nice and fun touch! Our server then went over all of the different options since it was my first time at the restaurant. It was a lot to take in, but she was super helpful the entire time! For appetizers we got the beans and greens and then the smoked provolone (?? My boyfriend ordered so I think that's what it was!). They were both amazing! Highly recommend! (BUT I will say looking back .... The appetizers were not needed with the amount of food that was about to be served) You start off with a salad - we went with the house. It was very tasty and had walnuts and raisins (I'm not a raisin person but they actually went super well in this salad!) The dressing is super light and refreshing. Then comes the pasta. We went with the cacio e pepe! They make it table side in a cheese wheel! It was awesome to watch! Our server explained the whole process and some fun facts about the cheese wheel! .... But that's not all You then get your main course! (At this point I was absolutely stuffed, and was only able to eat a couple bites) but I got the margherita and substituted eggplant for the chicken since I'm a vegetarian! It was so so good! My favorite restaurant in the South Hills area! Food (5/5): I've more or less gotten the same thing every time (about 3-4 visits), but it's so good there is no reason to change. The chicken parmigiana is by far my favorite of all-time. The right amount of crisp on the skin with a generous portion of sauce and added cheese. The cacio e pepe is also a must, creamy and filling. They make it table side which adds to the experience. I also get the house salad which is fantastic. The raspberry vinaigrette along with the raisins and bleu cheese makes for a tasty blend of flavors and textures. Service (5/5): Every server I've ever had here is knowledgeable of the menu, engaging, and attentive. Never an issue. Price (4.5/5): You shouldn't expect it to be cheap because it's not. Wow! Arlecchino's is something to talk about! First of all, the restaurant is in an old school house. As a former teacher, this made me happy. The restaurant is usually packed on the weekends and a reservation is recommended! However, we were unexpectedly in the area, and we popped in right before they opened. We were able to score a spot in the bar area. It overlooks the entire restaurant AND the service is impeccable! Our waiter/bartender was super helpful and friendly. We were the only ones in the bar area for about 15 to 20 minutes, but as soon as it got packed, the service was still the same! Each meal starts out with bread and this banana pepper dipping sauce that is heavenly! The entree portions are HUGE and come with a salad and side of pasta. You really could share the meal, but we opted not to! Some of the pasta is even mixed in a large wheel of cheese! Definitely recommend making reservations and plan for a 2+ hr as they do a full 3 course meal experience. You'll be met by the Valet which is complimentary (very friendly and quick, don't forget to tip on de). Bathrooms are to the left and right upon entry, followed by other doors to the main dining area. Seated immediately. We didn't feel crowed or cramped as other stated. Our server was great, explained the menu and specials well. We started the house salad which was crisp and delicious. We of course tried the Caico e peoe, a small upgrade fee but worth it as not many places offer it, along with the vodka pasta. I must say, I normally hate vodka pasta but it was very good. For our main My wife settled on a Filet Mignon (medium rare) and I ordered a chefs special (parm pork chop). Her steak came out medium well but our waiter was more than happy to get her one cooked medium rare. A manager came out and apologized as well. The replacement came out perfect. Mistakes happen, was important here is they were swift to replace it and happy in doing so! Im not sure how we had room for desert but we finished it off with the strawberry cheesecake. Traveled the world, and this is by far my favorite place to eat. Just amazing. Food is tops, drinks are great, staff is wonderful.

Arlecchino is an amazing restaurant. Really cool vibe inside and top notch service. If you are going for a full dinner, be prepared for a long experience. My wife and I were there for around two hours when we went. It was well worth it though! They start you off with their homemade bread, which is excellent. I wish I would have only had one piece though because they keep the food coming. We then had Caesar salads. Incredible dressing and super fresh. Then come the main dishes. You are given the options between a Cacio e pepe, which comes made table side in a big cheese wheel, or a pasta dish with vodka sauce. My wife and I got one of each and both liked the Cacio e pepe dish better, but both were very good. For my meal I had the stuffed lobster tail. By the time it came however, I was so full I could barely eat any. What I did have was delicious. It made for great leftovers the next day. Overall, a great meal and experience. read more

They're owned by the same people as Alla Famiglia, so you know it's good Arlecchino offers more than just a meal; it's an experience. From the moment you walk in, the service and attention is impeccable. We went for my husband's birthday, and they made it extra special with his name up on the chalkboard and a personalized menu for him! They'll start you off with their bread and "holy oil", but try not to fill up on it because there is a lot more food to come! Next up is a delicious house salad that is split amongst the table, and that's followed by your pasta course - which you can have marinara, vodka, or Alfredo style. It's finally time for the meal, and you can't go wrong with anything on the menu! This time we had the bolognese and chicken parmigiana, and both were fantastic! They also provide very generous portions, so we'll have leftovers for a few meals. Perfection - it was my first visit to either Arlecchino or Alla Famiglia, and I cannot wait to come back. We were celebrating two birthdays and not only did they put their names on their welcome board, but they printed special menus (which both of them kept) that said "Happy Birthday ___________!!" The food was decadent and fresh at every turn. We tried many, MANY appetizers and all of them were hot and so full of flavor. The smoked provolone and beans and greens are a must. We also tried both pastas, the vodka and cacio e pepe, and they were cozy and hot and delicious. The cacio e pepe is prepared tableside and it's such a fun experience! We shared the chicken Margherita and it was tender and paired with a salad of arugula and cheese and tomatoes - just wonderful! To finish, dessert was everything we could have hoped for - it was a raspberry tiramisu, but in reality it was like a raspberry burnt almond torte, which is even better. The portions here are HUGE and so filling, and the service was impeccable from start to finish. We were so impressed with how smoothly the staff works together throughout the restaurant. This was the first time I visited the restaurant with my family for my birthday. The restaurant itself is a historical school building with valet parking. Keep in mind the restaurant is next to a sanitary sewage plant and an auto body shop so you pay for the ambiance inside the restaurant- not the outside. The food was very good. I ordered the veil monzu while my family ordered the veil Marsala and the Milanese veil chop. With each meal we received a house salad, meatball, and alla vodka pasta as a first and second course. Each of us ordered wine and cocktails which were very good. Service was exceptional. Our biggest complaint was the Milanese veil chop, the restaurant's signature dish, as it was mainly fat instead of meat. For a price of $85 I would expect the signature dish to be around 75% lean meat with 25% fat, not the other way around. Overall I would visit again. The food is exquisite and authentic Italian which is presented perfectly. I love that you get appetizers, salad, pasta then your main meal. The only thing a little disappointing was the bread. (I expected a nice hot crusty bread to go with some of the most delicious appetizers I've ever experienced) like the Mussels diavlo, meatballs to die for, fried cheese or hot banana peppers stuffed with sausage. The house salad is a meal in itself and I could easily eat this every night along with the parmesan and ala vodka pasta prepared tableside a huge wheel of cheese.(the highlight of the night) Service was right on pointe and absolutely perfect. The main entrees were spectacular, not only in the presentation but cooked to perfection. The wine selection was vast and the full liquor bar was well stocked. Desserts did not dissappoint. The gelato is fantastic and I'd order it again in any flavor. This restaurant provides a gastro experience like no other with huge portions. I would be safe to say no one left hungry, that is for sure. Be aware that a 20% gratuity is automatically added. this place! Omg what an absolute hidden gem! This place is absolutely worth checking out, especially for a special occasion out. The atmosphere is cozy, and fancy without being overwhelming. I love that this is an old schoolhouse, you can really feel that old location feeling when you walk in. I will say we were slightly overwhelmed by the fancy menu, but our server Russell made it easy to understand, and gave his recommendations as well(Russell was an awesome server!). We ordered the giant meatball to start, this can easily be shared between 2-4 people. The meatball was so moist, the perfect amount of cheese, and that marinara sauce is so bright and wonderful! The rustic bread and holy oil are awesome, it definitely sets the mood for the meal. For our salads we ordered one of each, I personally had the Cesar salad because the other salad had ingredients I can't have, so I skipped it. The Cesar salad is that light yet flavorful dressing that I crave, it's simple in presentation, but it's just a solid choice if you're someone who doesn't like a lot going on in your salad. The casa salad is perfect for those that love a mix of flavors and textures, definitely a hearty mixture. For our pasta choice we hands down had to have the highly recommended CACIO E PEPE , not only is it fun to watch them prepare it table side, it's so delicious! It gives you that Alfredo taste without the heaviness, they will also bring out a house made chilli oil to compliment the pasta (start slow with it) For our main dishes we both went with chicken. Neither of us could decide on just one, so we picked two and decided to share lol. We chose marsala, and parmigiana. The marsala is just beautiful, it's hearty with the perfectly cooked mix of mushrooms that offer different textures, the chicken was generous, juicy and cooked to perfection. The sauce, omg the sauce! Sweet, earthy and followed by the wine flavor, it's the best I've ever had. Other places taste like a mushroom gravy in comparison lol. The parmigiana was just everything it should be, the lightly breaded chicken, juicy, and covered in that bright marinara sauce that I am still thinking about two days later lol. It was perfection even the next day! Even though both of us were absolutely bursting at this point and had plenty of leftovers, we couldn't pass up sharing a dessert. The raspberry tiramisu is an absolute must try! It's not traditional (no espresso) but they use vodka, candied almond slices , and it's just amazing. I would recommend asking for a bit more raspberry sauce because it's just that good! *Notes* get there early, definitely make reservations, and don't be afraid to ask questions. They do offer free vallet parking (the lot fills FAST) but we got there right when they opened at 4 so we didn't use them. This isn't a place for young children, I'd say teenager+ would be best for this establishment. This is a business casual place, but they're not strict with the requirements just use your best judgement when picking out an outfit. My husband and I were really excited to finally have a date night at this highly recommended restaurant, but were regrettably underwhelmed by the experience. We had a 4:15 reservation on a Saturday, which was nice to be able to beat the crowd. We called in advance and they said it usually takes 1.5-2 hrs so it was perfect to be finishing around 6. We first had the complimentary Holy Oil and bread. Bread wasn't warm, which was OK. The Holy Oil was incredibly bitter, so much so, that we asked the waitress if it was supposed to be like that and she said to some degree, yes. In any case, we didn't care for it. To our surprise, the head chef came to our table to acknowledge that the Holy Oil that was served that night was uncharacteristically bitter, likely attributed to a bad batch of olive oil, so they wouldn't serve it and apologized. We were appreciative of the acknowledgement and him addressing us personally - and who can fault them if it was a supplier issue? The Casa Salad was excellent and we both really enjoyed this. perfect combination of acidity from the vinaigrette, saltiness from the olives, and sweetness from the candied walnuts. My husband got the vodka sauce pasta, which was amazing (i love to eat the bottled sauce at home). I opted for the Cacio E Pepe and was really excited about it. the preparation was fun to watch and the flavor was great - but it was not even room temp warm - it was cold. I let my husband try it and thought maybe this was how it was supposed to be? but his dish was piping hot and mine was ... cold. i didn't address it with the waitress and decided to just take it home and enjoy it once heated, especially since i had a big dish ahead of me. the Seafood Diavolo was Amazing. the flavor was explosive, fresh and there was no shortage of seafood. i LOVED the scallops, Mussels, and big Shrimp! I thought that the lobster would be the star of the show but really it was the scallops and mussels for me - so good. This was a home run for me and my husband agreed. My husband got the Milanese Veal Chop as recommended by the waitress. my husband described it as overly decadent, where you couldn't really appreciate the veal chop. Breaded, Fried, and then sitting in butter was a bit much. He wished he went with his initial choice and ordered the Griglia, which was a rosemary seasoned grilled chop served with Au Jus. the portions are generous, we each were able to take home leftovers. but between the miss with the olive oil, the cold pasta (which they forgot to put in our doggy bag), the overly decadent chop, we were underwhelmed with our experience, especially considering this was moderately upscale. Pulling in the driveway it looks like a huge house! I found it a little odd that they only do valet parking. It was so cold on this night to and surprisingly it was pretty dead so I didn't think valet was necessary. That poor valet guy! Restaurant had a bar area upstairs and a while back room as well as the front. It is beautifully decorated with Italian art. Very romantic with candle lights. The food was amazing! Everything we had was great! Each entree came with a salad and a pasta. The entrees are on the pricer side then an average steak house but the salad and pasta that accompanied it, made up for it! The salad was different and had berries and nuts! It was great! They also offered the cheese wheel pasta (Cacio e Pepe) as your side! Which was great since that's what u was gonna get as my entree until the server told us our entree came with salad and pasta! I was able to get their blanked cod! Which was excellent and so big! I had leftovers for days! The Cacio e Pepe was so good!! I wish I had more. My friends all enjoyed their dinner as well. They both got the veal pork which is served 4 ways! Friends kept recommending Arlecchino's to me and I thought New Years would be the perfect time to finally experience this amazing restaurant. It did not disappoint! I made reservations and despite being quite early, the staff seated us right away. Latisha was our server and she made the entire evening an experience! Latisha was knowledgeable, kind, attentive and a true delight to have as a server. The food- my goodness the food! Every. Single. Bite was incredible, from the holy oil to the seasonal apple crumb cheesecake and every thing in between! The meatball was recommended to us by Latisha as an appetizer and was an excellent choice! The meatball was so tender that it fell apart in your mouth and it was so perfectly cheesy! I've never had a more flavorful Caesar salad, the bread made for a delightful crouton on top! The Cacio e Pepe was phenomenal (somehow even better the next day!) Our entrees, the filet and the veal parmigiana were cooked perfectly and absolutely delicious! I celebrated my birthday here and immediately saw my name on their birthday wall. Their dipping oil was delicious- we had to limit ourselves to make sure we didn't fill up on the bread. We all got entrees that came with salad/pasta then our entrees. We all got their house salad (amazing) and they prepared the pasta in a cheese wheel right in-front of us. The service was outstanding and our server helped guide us to order exactly what we would love. It was such a neat ambiance I would highly recommend coming here for a celebration! read more
