Been living in the Oxnard/Ventura area for 5 years now and I've never been here. Well this morning was the first time I'd ever been here, recommended by a friend of mine. He had recommended a breakfast burrito, So that's what I ordered: egg, sausage, hashbrowns, cilantro, hot and mild sauce. We sat for a short time for our food (2-3 minutes) to receive it steaming hot with everything cooked for it just then. It took me about 2 minutes to eat this thing. No, it wasn't small, it was gargantuan. The biggest 5$ breakfast burrito I've ever eaten. It was the fact that it's deliciousness outweighed the mass (figuratively speaking) that allowed me to eat this thing in record time. It was amazing. The food was made in a timely fashion, the ladies that worked there were so sweet and nice and the food was spectacular. Recommend this place to anyone and everyone that enjoys good food. read more

Only problem, really unorganized..u got 2 girls on the register, but it seems that one of the girls is just handing out orders to the other girl instead of helping her out. Friendly family owned. Traditional Mexican food better than your mama makes. "Drop the mic" best chile colorado. Serious chile rellenos which is my favorite thing in life. Tamales better than homemade. They don't cut corners on quality because you can taste it throughout. The quality in the chile colorado and tamales shows in the shredded beef and pork. Not fatty or gristly. The masa is light and flavorful not just a carrier where you would want to push it aside. But they also serve lunch food like burritos. My personal favorite has always been the spicy beef and potato burrito. It may not be a traditional choice but it kicks butt, literally. Be forewarned, spicy means mexican spicy. The burrito was $5.25 for a typical hole-in-the-wall double fisted burrito. It was also $5.25 10+ years ago, what the hell? They used to use a lot of lard in their cooking in the past but now it seems lighter than I remember. But don't go 'cause its healthy 'cause its not, go because its good and cheap. read more

We happened in here last weekend because we were on the way to Malibu and starving. I know have have said this before but these are the best chili rellenos I have ever had, this time really .La comida seta deliciosa The food is delicious, there is no better way to say it. This place is not fancy but, YUM. We both had the relleno and a chile cheese tamale which was surprisingly spicy. I woke up on a Sunday and was super craving a breakfast burrito. At this moment I wish I lived in Ventura, cause there would be many great choices. But I live in south Oxnard, so I thought there would be good choices. I yelped breakfast burritos and la especial was highly rated. Plus I've been wanting to check this place out for a while. I ordered the breakfast burrito, with 2 eggs, sausage, bacon, cilantro, onion, hash browns and hot sauce. The whole burrito was total under seasoned. The eggs weren't seasoned the hash browns were super unseasoned and even the onion and cilantro was dull. Also the hot sauce was so bland, that I used Valentina hot sauce instead. Also what was weird is that there was whole sausages in my burrito, they weren't chopped up at all. I'm so used to tacos la Costa and corralles, the la especial was beyond a let down. read more

The carne asada is so delicious, and the pico de gallo was so fresh. The outside is unassuming and almost hard to see. (Other than the fact that there was NO fresh baked bread or pan dulce which was a huge disappointment.) The burritos were delectable as usual & deserve a 5 star, but the decor, not so much. The place has not changed at all in that area. At the very least, removing the clutter & duct tape off the walls, updating their menu boards & a simple coat of paint is sorely needed. Wouldn't cost barely a thing & would do wonders for the aesthetic of the place. Again, the food is consistently delicious which is probably their saving grace. La Especial is my favorite spot for breakfast but they have so much more than breakfast. All their food is authentic and all the effort put into making their food really comes through in taste.
