First time here last week and I got the pupusas plate. They actually started me with some mini pupusas which only wet my appetite for more. The pupusas were hot, soft and delicious, just the right amount of stuffing, mine was pork and cheese. As good, though, as my pupusas was their rice and black beans. This place is amazing. We had a variety of pupusas, and they were all delicious. We had pork, bean and cheese, chorizo, potato and jalapeño, and pork, bean, and cheese. I loved them all, but my favorite was the potato and jalapeño. They came with a salsa, which was a little fruity and not hot, but went really well with the pupusas. Also came with a coke slaw, but vinegar-based, which was very good. We also tried the tamal de elote (sweet corn tamale), and it was also delicious. Highly recommend. read more

My first time going there for breakfast today. It was delicious and generous. I had cafe de La olla with a Guatemalan breakfast that was amazing. No it is not cheap but the coffee was huge. I was unable to finish it. The breakfast had eggs, bean, cheese, platanos, sugar, crema and thick handmade tortillas. The service was great. I am always excited to see Guatemalan restaurants; there aren't that many. My boyfriend and I decided to drop in for lunch on the Saturday that happened to also be Guatemalan Independence day. We ordered the trio of tostadas and the carne asada. We also tried their complimentary tortillas and black beans. We were pleasantly surprised with the flavor of the food. Never as good as moms but pretty damn close. They gave us free pupusas to celebrate Independence day. They were pretty large and very tasty. People in the restaurant were super nice and the decor was pretty cool. Restaurant felt clean. My only complaint is that they don't have Gallo beer (Guatemalan brand beer). They said they're getting their liquor license soon. Overall, a great experience! I'll be back for sure. read more

As someone from El Salvador that had ate pupusas all my life and knows how a good pupusa is supposed to taste. All I gotta say is their pupusas are nasty and SALTY AS FUCK! Also they are expensive and just not worth it! If you want real pupusas in Long Beach try La Santaneca bakery. My husband and me went to eat at this place twice. This place has authentic Guatemalan and Salvadorean food. I have been to many Guatemalan and Salvadorean restaurants; however, I consider this place the best. Every dish is delicious, the customer service is outstanding, and the decor inside this restaurant makes you feel like you are in Guatemala. I am glad this place is here in Long Beach. I'm very picky when it comes to Pupusas. When we found this place I was like SCORE! Husband and I are both fans. We have eaten there and taken to go and have gotten great service. Their food is great and very flavorful. Anytime we have a craving we come here and leave happy every time. The bakery is pretty awesome as well with their pan dulce and other warm goodies they have. I love La Esperanza in Torrance! So, naturally I was excited to find out they were opening one down the street from my home and was crossing my fingers that it was just as good. IT IS! I've NEVER had pupusas as good as these and I'm half Salvadorian. My favorite foods to order here are bean and cheese pupusas, sugar covered plantain empanadas filled with cream and their hot corn beverage (atol De elote). Service is good. Need to park on the street. The tables are wiggly and not firm. There was just one server and we were the only ones there that it took way too long to get served. I ordered the tamale and it was dry and had no flavor. The beans were good though. The ensalada drink tasted like it's been stored for days. The cheese was bland. The tortillas were made fresh which is a plus. I wasnt a big fan of this place I am not returning to this place the food was bland and I was hoping for some delicious food and the worst part of all it was pricey. The food is good. The biggest problem is that its not consistent. One day the food is excellent. The rice is full of flavor, the beans are yummy. The pupusas are incredibly good. But then the next time, the rice tastes like cardboard and the beans are saltier than the red sea. The service is good. The ladies who serve you are funny, energetic and nice.
