Just tried this place as they were catering at The Beach Flea Market at LB City College. Had the shrimp and cheese tacos and the carne asada tacos! The shrimp tacos were amazing, want more!! Tried this spot a while back after hearing they had authentic Mexico City tacos (June 2021). I was super disappointed after having them back then. They were dry and the tortillas tasted like they needed more cooking. The avocado was a nice touch, but didn't make up for it. It also took forever to get them even though they didn't appear to be too busy. I remember the person taking my order wasn't the friendliest either. Back then they had close to 870 followers on Instagram. I vowed never to go back. Fast forward to December 2023 and I see some delicious looking quesadillas on my Instagram feed. I took down their address (didn't recognize it) and drove on over. Low and behold, it's them. I busted a u-turn and went back home. Today, I was looking through Instagram again and they popped up because Brian Addison, who I follow, liked one of their pictures/reels. I trust the guy with food so I decided to give them another chance... so glad I did! This time, I ordered a quesadilla de asada. I was hoping to get their flautas in a cup, but the person taking my order said they ran out (around 4pm on a Sunday), so I settled for the taquitos dorados (two chicken and one potato). The quesadilla was absolutely delicious. A 10/10 and a must have. The potato taco dorado was a 9/10 and the chicken taco dorado was a 6/10 (chicken was a bit dry). They provided curtido (fermented cabbage) which was cool, so I added some of that to the chicken taco dorado. It made up for the dryness a bit. I made sure to order ahead this time. Looking at the reviews, it doesn't look like that's improved. I got there 20 minutes after placing it and it was ready to go. They didn't skimp out on salsa, which is always appreciated. This time around, the person at the register was much friendlier than the person that helped me out a couple of years ago, so that's another improvement. Looking forward to coming back for another quesadilla and trying some other items out. LBfoodcoma (on IG) recently featured their tamales and they look delicious, so I'll have to give them a shot. I ordered the torta with carne asada and it was flavorful, especially with the home made salsas that I was given. The red one definitely was my favorite, spicy but delicious. I also enjoyed their horchata and found it more refreshing than overly sweet which is what I enjoyed more surprisingly and this might be my favorite horchata now! Started off with card read issues when I got there...no one's fault but time consuming...will definitely bring cash only next time (there's a $0.50 fee for card anyway). But this isn't my issue... We didn't want to lose our parking spot, so we walked over to different locales on a Sunday afternoon as dusk approached. We turned a corner to see if this place was open. My friend can't eat cheese products and therefore needed massive accommodations made to his order. I, however, ventured for some flavors I've only ever had a place called Aqui es Texcoco in Chula Vista: huitlacoche and flor de calabaza. Neither of us had any regrets about the order. The crisp on those (handmade??) tortillas made every bite feel like absolutely regal. I'd wager to say that these hefty quesadillas lorded over any others I've had. The flavors were intense and the portion felt enormous. I didn't even miss the meats as my two options were so delightful. Factor in that smokey sauce and I was in heaven. Yeah, our order took a while. So what? These are precisely the kind of flavor profiles I'm willing to wait for and pay for. Alright, here's my updated review for this hole in the wall... Nothing has changed, BUT the food has gotten better! Maybe it has always been good but I was always left disappointed with service and wait times to remember how good the food was. Yes, service is not top notch, with the exception of the older man that has answered the phone a few times. He's super polite and gracious every time you ask a question or consider patronizing, but the women that work there need to do better or be replaced. Considering how awesome their marketing is on social media, it is quite a disappointment that there is not stellar service to match. First timers more than likely don't or won't return due to the service AND THE EXCESSIVE WAIT TIME! This has very recently upset me to an extreme, due to the only thing that was ordered was 2 tamales and those are ALREADY MADE! There was no one eating inside and even if there are orders in for pick up... grabbing the tamales and bagging and charging them takes literally a minute or two. I waited nearly 20 minutes. Unbelievable. But they are good, and are a good size. That is the only saving grace. Most of the food I've tried is great, and authentic. That's what matters most I suppose, but change is needed because most locals already know this spot for the ridiculous wait times and stay away (this is what most of my neighbors have shared with me and what I'm receiving from feedback I've requested on social media lol) so in this new year I suggest Reyes del Taco Sabroso staff work on time management and a good attitude or they'll be known as Reyes de Tardarse para servir el Taco Sabroso y de el Mal Servicio. Yes. Yes. Yes. A thousand times yes. Love this place for its authenticity. Delicious meals served up traditionally. I've ordered take out from here twice in 2 weeks for family meals and we were not disappointed. We love their wet burritos, quesadillas (corn tortillas and queso fresco... yum) that you can pretty much add anything to, the tortas are delicious, and so much more we want to try on their menu. I would suggest calling in your order versus using grub hub, their online ordering system on their website is not up to date. Unfortunately, the first time we ordered, they never received it because of this fact. So we just placed our order again in the restaurant (we did have to get a refund from the cc company as they had to means to refund us directly - not sure why). The last time I checked there was no dine in, and I think they're not quite set up for that yet as we move into less restrictive tiers during the pandemic. The small front seating area was being utilized for storage, but pick up is just great. They also have a fridge of tasty looking deserts - chocoflan, paletas, gelatina... yum. It was huge and definitely didn't think we were going to be able to finish them, but we did. the taste and quality really vary dependent on who is cooking. the quality seems to be degrading as they have doubled the prices in the last few years. I understand that costs have gone up nationally, so they have to charge more, but cutting corners isn't something that I appreciate. They have been out of red sauce for over a week, so I'm very led to believe that they don't make much of their food fresh daily anymore. The burrito I just ordered is extremely salty, which can often happen if you use frijoles that may have been cooked and reheated multiple times. I don't really see any beans in my burrito, but they are there somewhere thru the overwhelming amount of rice. As I've had really great experiences in the past, I'm rating 3 stars even tho today's experience was lower. The chicken Tinga quesadilla was very tasty and the Sopes were great. this restaurant used to have daily specials that often included daily Guisados (various Mexican stews) but they stopped that a long time ago. many items are often out of stock and not available for periods of time, so I recommend calling in your order so you don't waste your time trying to find parking just to find that your favorite items aren't available.
