Grab a tray and tong, then fill your tray with the pastries you like. The store next door has grocery and household goods, a few tables and chairs to dine in. So this is the pretty awesome Bakery inside the Midtown Global Market that used to be called El Mexicano and is now called Samantha. Either way it makes fantastic baked goods and is a really great destination for Mexican bakery stuff. This Market itself is a little bit busy and hipster and has a lot of international stuff that is a little overpriced and not always authentic but in this case it's very authentic and very cheap and probably honestly belongs over at the Mercado Central instead but considering that it's here instead of at the Central, it's actually making this place much better and I appreciate it being here.

You should definitely try it before you buy one (they do sell single slices) because not everybody likes it-- kind of a wet, spongy cake that is rich and sweet but very different from the dry, fluffy American style cakes that we are used to. They always look incredible with the ripe glazed fruit on top and are delicious to eat. I also really like this location because you can see the bakers at work. Once I saw the owner frosting a wedding cake and once I saw him decorating a few tres leches cakes at one time. The cake looks fantastic except they placed canned peaches on the top of a pineapple filling cake! I had to find a little kid to help me thru the maze of little shops to find bakery. No markings on the outside of the building either. I could not recommend to you as it would be hard to find. The neighborhood is very sketchy. I am pretty sure a hooker asked me for some money!
