Our Go-To Spot for BBQ - Nothing Compares!…read more We've been loyal customers of BBQ 28 since the day they opened, and after trying many other BBQ spots, nothing else even comes close. The food is consistently delicious, fresh, and full of flavor. The establishment is split into two sections. On the right side is the takeout area, where you can see the staff preparing everything right in front of you - from the perfectly chickens, steaks, ribs, to the freshly made rice. Their shrimp in garlic sauce is amazing as well as their salads, the dressing is the best, it should be bottled and sold. It's an experience just watching them cook! The food is always hot and ready, and the staff are incredibly friendly and efficient. We usually call ahead to place our order, and it's typically ready in about 20-30 minutes. On the left side is the sit-down restaurant, which has a warm, welcoming vibe. If you just can't wait to get home to enjoy your meal, you can always head next door and dine in comfortably. Whether you're grabbing takeout or sitting down for a meal, BBQ 28 never disappoints. Highly recommend - the food is always steaming hot, and the service is top-notch!

The menu had mostly Hawaiian options to choose from. The pricing was very reasonable as well. I had the customizable poke bowl ($15.95). There was a number of different options to choose from with different proteins, toppings, sauces, etc. I had a base of brown rice with avocado, cucumber, sweet corn, edamame, mango, ahi tuna, spicy mayo, ginger, wasabi, jalapeno, green onion, and cilantro. This was nicely done. Everything appeared fresh and it was a good size portion. I would have just liked to seen a little more ahi tuna present, but besides that, very pleasant and filling. I also had the spam musubi ($2.95) and a side of macaroni salad ($3.95). The musubi was okay. It was a little dry. There needed to be more sauce present. The macaroni salad was a heaping portion, and it was tasty. There looked like a lot of mayonnaise present, but it was not too overpowerful as some type of sugar seemed to be incorporated to balance it out. Regardless of what it was, the salad was flavorful. Will I go back? I would.

They tend to overcook the burger sometimes. They have saimin which is cool. Hardly any places have it out here. They dont have laulau or Portuguese sausage, but i havent found any places in jersey that serve that. Which is really sad, since i miss that the most. DONT GET THE POKÉ BOWL! They say 3 scoops, but the scoops are tiny. Each scoop had 4 pieces of fish. Thats fuxking ridiculous! All the other places I've been to use the big ice cream scoops. The poké bowl is a rip off. Just go somewhere else that will actually give you more than 4 pieces of fish per scoop. Would give 3 stars, but 2 stars because of the poké bowl. People are nice and service was good. Ps. Stop putting raw onions in your Mac salad. No good

I ordered a pick-up to take home. And let's just say it was the most disappointing dinner ever. To…read moreme, it was not worth $38 bucks. Loco Moco (Island Grill) - The grilled beef patty was terrible and dry even with the sauce it still did not help. The fried eggs, one of the eggs, were overcooked where the yolk cooked fully, and the other one was fine sunnyside up. Pork Katsu & Kalbi Short Ribs with Curry Sauce (Island Combo) - Short Ribs were overdone and tasted burnt. Like, not a BBQ tastes like a burnt taste. Pork Katsu was overcooked and dry. When you bite it, it is ready hard, like biting a rock. Plus, that Pork Katsu wasn't even a Pork Katsu. It's like a really thin slice of pork dipped in panko batter. It doesn't even match with the picture. (Japanese restaurants make better Pork Katsu). The curry sauce was at a different level. You can see the sauce sink to the bottom and water floating to the top. I think it was like a water down sauce that they tried to make it last without throwing it away. Overall, the meals, taking a quote from Bob's Burgers, as Bob Belcher says, "Overdone and Dry." Plus, it was missing Macaroni Salad. Even though their website says the Island Grill and Combo include 2 Scoops of Rice, 1 Scoop of Macaroni Salad on a Bed of Cabbage. Will never be coming back here to order food.

The service was friendly, and the food came out extremely quickly. I felt we were being rushed just a tad, but not a huge deal. For appetizers, the falafel ($7?), Mantu ($8?), and bholani cadu ($6?) were ordered. Regarding the falafel, there were five to an order. The falafel was very crispy and had decent flavor. I thought they needed a little more seasoning present. The Mantu were Afghan style dumplings filled with ground beef, onions, and seasonings. It was garnished with homemade mint yogurt and lentil sauce. This was light and soft with tons of flavor. The dumplings were filled appropriately, and the lentil sauce was a pleasant addition. The bholani cadu was a thin fried pastry filled with butternut squash and seasoned with fresh herbs and spices. This was interesting. The wonton was very crispy. The squash filling was sweeter than I thought, but still tasty. I also might add all of the three sauces provided at the tables were good, with the cilantro one being my favorite (cilantro I believe anyway). For my entrée, I had the lamb shank ($38?). It came with a soup, salad, a choice of rice, and naan. The soup appeared to be a lentil soup. It came out hot and was very pleasant. The salad consisted of tomatoes, onions, and cucumbers. It was prepared nicely as all the pieces were small and a good size portion. The simple dressing was great too. The lamb shank came with a few vegetables. The lamb was extremely tender, but not much meat was on the bone. There needed to be a little more seasoning too as it was lacking. I am just glad the lamb was so tender. I went with the Kabuli rice which had steamed carrots and raisins on top. This was fluffy and flavorful with a ton of it. The naan was okay, a little too crispy. I also tried the lamb chops. They had an unreal cook on them and seasoned well. I also tried the zamarud rice, which was good too. For dessert, the rice pudding ($8?) was ordered. It was creamy and filling. The nice crunch from the pistachios on top was a good addition. Will I go back? I would, yes.
