About an hour outside of Anchorage, Feather and Flour is a destination in itself. Touted as farm, fjord, forest to table, their ever-changing weekly menu reflects many local and seasonal produce and meats. With a choice from 3 options in all 3 courses, we shared Mongolian inspired beef tenderloin skewers and local tomato caprese, followed by a summer herb salad and squash and potato soup perfect to dip that herb focaccia in. Finally an equally amazing teriyaki sockeye and beef tenderloin. If you want to make the drive to Palmer worth your while, stop by the Reindeer Farm beforehand to see and feed the animals before you get fed. read more

At the end of November 2023 Feather & Flour announced some changes to their restaurant starting December 2024. At that time they put their brunch service on hold to focus on a pre-fixe dinner service menu. As someone who has previously dined with them for their special dinner service I was excited for this change. Even though I love their brunch service I am a sucker for a good pre-fixe menu. In January of 2024 I joined them for their pre fixe dinner experience & it was absolutely amazing. I took my mother for her bday & she was also extremely impressed. Their menu was 3 courses for $60 with an optional beer ($18) or wine ($30) pairing add on. If you do not want to do a pairing you can order wine/beer by the glass, or one of their creative wine spirit based cocktails. I live & die by their espresso martini. It's one of my favorites in the state. The included courses are an appetizer, soup or salad, and an entree. Each category has 3 options to choose from with options in mind for vegetarians, GF & dairy-free. The menu also includes additional add ons of sharing plates, and desserts. The menu options rotate frequently with availability of product so there will always be new dishes to try. The courses were interesting, beautifully plated, and most importantly delicious. We added on the oysters with a lemon champagne mignonette, and the GF vanilla blueberry cake with lemon curd & meringue. For the first course we had the steak caprese & Brie wedge, 2nd course was a kale Caesar & tomato-squash soup, 3rd course was Bristol Bay sockeye & beef tenderloin. Menu picture included in last photo for descriptions. I think this prix fixe dinner service is very fairly priced, and we enjoyed our experience. Their dinner service is now a la carte, but definitely still worth checking out. Brunch also returned in spring of 2024 & continues on through winter. It's cool to see this spot finding their stride & providing a much needed experience in the valley. I can honestly say have never had a bad item at this restaurant, and it's one of my top 5 in south central. If you've never gone to Feather & Flour you are seriously missing out on a culinary gem. I finally made my way to Feather & Flour and it lived up to the hype! It is so cute inside and everyone was very friendly. We started with drinks (wild rose white mocha and blackberry London fog) and the gluten free coffee cake. Both were delicious. My friend got the Bubble & Squeak and loved it. Finally had the opportunity to have brunch at Feather & Flour and it was worth the drive from Anchorage. Make sure to make reservations before heading out. The menu is short and sweet with locally sourced ingredients. The restaurant itself is located in downtown Palmer in a cute converted 1950s house. There is very limited seating that provides a intimate setting. We split the espresso parfait and it was SO GOOD. The yogurt was light and fresh and it paired perfectly with the rich chocolate granola, espresso, and brittle. Everything was presented beautifully. It was a great brunch outing. Vibes are modern, clean, and relaxed with a touch of artistic flair. The menu, while a bit small, showcases vegetarian and vegan options, as well as carnivorous ones. Everything tasted fresh, and my husband even had the option to get scrambled eggs even though the menu listed the eggs as being poached or fried (can't remember and don't have a photo of the menu). The bread that accompanied my soup was crisp and buttery. Wished we had returned when we were driving from Denali to Seward. Next time! First time here. We came in for Sunday brunch, ordered the breakfast - eggs, bacon, potatoes, toast and small fruit cup. First, the water was cucumber water, very refreshing! I came up to my favorite state and my friend made us a reservation for Sunday brunch. She was told it's a popular restaurant and best to have a reservation so no wait. I started with the Knik Fog to drink and although I did not take a photo of it, I highly recommend it. The mint flavor was delicious with the green tea. We got the bread and spread to snack on (and take home). The bread was delicious with a crunch to the outside. The spread had granola on top of a cinnamon spread i believe. We ended up getting two entrees and splitting them. The orange cardamon waffle had great flavor without being overly sweet at all. My favorite was the prosciutto and ricotta though. Not only did Palmer need a place like this, Anchorage needs MORE places like this! TLDR: this is your textbook farm-to-table/twee/hipster/stark-white-walls-in-reclaimed-old-timey house brunch eatery. And I don't say that to sound dismissive. My tone might sound snarky, but it ain't meant to be. I LOVE places like this. Those are the types of places that a city like Portland (where I used to live) might have a few dozen of but...are extremely rare up here in the 49th. (the only others that come to mind are:Girdwood Picnic Club (RIP) and Spoonline, also in Girdwood. I can think of some coffee shops that tick most of these boxes but then miserably fail when it comes to food options.) So, I guess, in Alaska, places like this aren't textbook at all. I've already described the ambiance, but the food and service were also excellent. I wouldn't recommend getting what I got though. I got the classic breakfast, and it was quite expensive and quite pathetic looking (but was very tasty). Especially when compared to Abbey's gorgeous, enormous chicken sandwich. What they really seem to execute at an insanely high level is anything involving sweets or baked goods. The toast and jam, for example, were the best parts of my meal, by far! My only negative comment is that this place seems to be obsessed with having a reservation. The hosts debated for 3 minutes where to seat us (after we told them we didn't have one) and ultimately decided to seat us at an open two-top that was about 10-feet from the host platform. There were tons of empty tables. Business owners! You LOSE LOTS OF MONEY when you go (nearly) reservation-only! WHY do you do this? So, dear reader, if you want guaranteed seating here, it might be best to make a reservation. read more

We had read great reviews and decided to try it for breakfast. Someone mentioned to seat yourself anywhere and come up to order when ready. We've been to brunch there 3-4 times and did the dinner service this past winter. Both options are fantastic. We found that with the pre-set dinner price and adding on drinks that it was a little more expensive than some of the similar options in south central, but overall the food quality was fantastic and everything felt super fresh. Brunch is always perfect here. I've had a variety of things on their ever updating menu and never had a miss. Breakfast drinks are also great, whether you're looking for coffee, chai, or something boozy. Brunch is Sundays-only right now but worth planning your weekend around. I highly recommend checking their website or socials ahead of time, because they've done a lot of adjusting in the year they've been open and probably will continue to do so and might change when they are doing brunch vs dinner service again. It looks like they are experimenting with a coffee shop vibe on weekdays this summer. If I lived in Palmer, I would be there at least once a week. The restaurant is a nicely appointed repurposed house in Palmer. We were able to find street parking very close. The table spacing was comfortable despite the small venue. The focaccia in the specialty bread appetizer was fantastic. The provided olive oil was depleted well before the bread. The Scallop Crudo was a refreshingly bright, citrusy first course, made with raw scallops. I do not think that I have had raw scallops outside of a sushi restaurant, so this was a unique dish to try. The Tomato-Basil soup as a second course was thick and delicious. It was served with bread, but unfortunately duplicated the same focaccia bread as the appetizer plate, for which we had finished all but on piece. As a third course, I had the Beef Tenderloin. Top notch. Very delicious in every way and nicely plated. For dessert, the Chocolate-Espresso Budino was super-rich and I was happy to take half of it home. Overall, the service was great - very friendly and attentive, with the exception of no further check-ins with the table after the check was paid and dessert was served. Dessert was served after the check was presented and paid. I try to stick with the table's server, but finally relented to catching a different staff member for a to-go container after a long period of being patient. The plates were all well-seasoned. While none of them tasted salty, after dinner I had 2-3 hours of thirst and drinking copious amounts of water. read more

That allows them to craft some great tasting food without spreading themselves so thin on too much variety. I had the Bubble and Squeak. I was curious in that a lot of potato dishes get the flavor washed out by the potato. Not so here. Every bite was full of flavor and very enjoyable. All the flavors came together really nice. Went to Feather and Flour for a 3 course dinner. Had the arancini, spring citrus salad, and Alaska Rockfish (substitute with cod since the rockfish shipment didnt come in). I forgot to take a picture of the Alaska cod because I was too excited to dig in, but that's okay just means we have to come back! I've had rockfish before and I had a tough time telling what I was eating was cod because they prepared it so nicely. It was so good with the coconut-curry lime sauce! Came in with a large group so I got to taste all three of the starters specialty bread, oysters, and sharing special. Everything was delicious! I learned I love fresh oysters now, especially with that lemon-champagne mignonette. My husband had the same thing except for the 3rd course he had the beef tenderloin which I also had a taste of before he devoured the whole thing. I definitely will be back. My guys had the steak and egg crostini with beautifully diced breakfast potatoes (currently on the menu) I enjoyed the carrot cake waffles (limited for Easter) We also enjoyed the carrot- ginger soup, and a spring salad with feta, strawberries, sunflower seeds and lemon honey dressing. We rounded out the starters with a coffee cake with pecan crumbles and 2 cheddar bacon scones. Dessert was out of this world! Matcha Hot Cross bun, lemon-meringue trifle and Mocha Affogato.
