Nice little quaint spot. Restaurant was pretty slow so we sat ourselves as instructed. We were brought some complimentary chips & salsa and our drink order was taken right away. Took a bit longer than expected for the food to come out considering things were slow. It is stated in the menu that the food is fresh, but I assure you; the tortillas are pre-packaged store bought tortillas. Most of the food was bland and that steak fajita skillet had about 3 onions, 1 bell pepper, and maybe 7-8 pieces of fajita meat. Sadly this placed missed the mark for me. Staff seemed nice. Maybe it'll be better for you.

Definitely 5 stars service. We took our Aunt and cousin visiting here from Houston, and ho wanted Mexican food. Also it's our first time at this restaurant. Since moving here from California last year, ethnic Mexican food has been a hit and miss, but that ended here at La Fiesta Patio Cafe. 1st bravo customer service to waitress Javi and owner Rivera. Before we ordered as first time guest, Rivera brought out a plate of the puffy beef tacos, tortilla soup and beef enchiladas for us to try, #1 selling foods on the menu. " delicious". Everything was great service, ambience and food, will definitely be going back.

Our "go to" for specific menu items. My wife gets the Chalupa Compuestas and I roll with the Guacamole Nachos. We both like their Tortilla Soup also. Chalupa Compuestas 9/10 - beef or chicken and guacamole atop two crisp tostadas, loaded with beans, melted cheese, lettuce, tomato and onion. My wife gets the chicken and subs the lettuce for alfalfa sprouts. She loves the flavor and they are also generous in portion. Guacamole Nachos 8/10 - cheese, beans, guacamole, jalepenos and onions. Constructed on tostada chips, the ingredients are large and tasty. Tortilla Soup 8/10 - their own recipe made with both serrano and ancho chiles in a spicy chicken broth. Served over crispy tortilla strips, cheese and guacamole. Not a chicken meat based but broth. Not your usual CTS, but very good. Service 8/10 - servers are always attentive and friendly. Atmosphere 8/10 - it's a quaint cafe. Overall 9/10 - honestly, it's not the best in town, but they are consistently very good. Definitely try them! #guacamolenachos #tortillasoup

Still putting out great food. They've changed their menu a bit. And walled over a couple of the glass walls in the big dining room. Looks nice inside.

    Vegan puffy tacos with avocado

This was the most welcoming place my mom and I could have gone for my first Tex-Mex food experience in San Antonio/Universal City area. I told the server (I think her name was Vanessa) that I'm vegan and she excitedly told the kitchen that and they went above and beyond to make me feel included. They brought out vegan puffy tacos (a restaurant staple apparently) for me to try and I immediately fell in love. Apparently they use fresh and local sprouts and it shows. The tortilla is crisped and filled with your choice of meat or tofu or beans (or avocado in my case). I also ordered vegan enchiladas. They have tofu but I don't do tofu so they customized it for me and added avocado instead. At this point in the review, it should be noted I'm avocado-obsessed. The food was good but the entire experience made it way better. I would return and get the puffy tacos again and maybe try something different or make a meal out of the tacos with the beans and rice. The restaurant has plenty of seating and bright and fun colors. It wasn't too packed for a Saturday evening.

The Puffy Platter & The Three Puffy 's Plate. Puffy taco heaven!!!!

Okay, I'm mid '50s & retired from the military, so I've been many places, and I've eaten at quite a number of different restaurants around the world. That said, there are definitely a small number of restaurants, in certain places, that can stand out as some of the best of a particular type of cuisine. La Fiesta Patio Cafe is most definitely one of them. First of all, here in San Antonio, The OG home of the Puffy Taco; La Fiesta Patio Cafe is arguably one of the two best in San Antonio. And that my friend, is saying a lot. The true mark of a puffy taco is, number one, that it is actually puffy, and not something that resembles a gordita. After that, you want a taco that is pliable, so that you can actually pick it up without spilling its contents all over your plate or yourself. And on top of that, you still want a taco that is not only has a crunchy shell, but not too greasy, and filled with very delicious contents of your choice. And boy do they have some great choices. Much more than the typical beef or chicken. And even more on top of that, the rest of their original Tex-Mex offers are not only some of the most delicious, but La Fiesta Patio Cafe goes out of their way, to also make their food as healthy as humanly possible. Having sampled there vegan, and meatless options, it is truly mind blowing how they can use such wholesome ingredients, to cater to a particular diet or preference, which absolutely are NOT native to San Antonio Tex-Mex, and yet make them taste so devilishly delicious. Finally, they have their own original takes on a variety of OG Tex-Mex, like they're very original salsa, that helps you to crave far more than merely one thing at a particular eatery. And also realize, that La Fiesta Patio Cafe is the only place, where we can taste such original, yet such tried and true Tex-Mex cuisine. So whether you want a quick but delicious and healthy bite for lunch; or someplace to take friends or family to introduce them to some some of the best Tex Mex anywhere, then La Fiesta Patio Cafe is where your search should end. Happy dining y'all.

The Tortilla Soup & Fiesta Salad Combo with mandatory fresh chips and homemade salsa. The BEST in SAT!

Jonesing for some authentic Tex-Mex with no frills...the kind of place that locals know about, the. Head over to La Fiesta Patio Cafe in Universal City. The place is very unassuming on the outside, but the food AND service is hands-down legit! My favorite time to go is during lunch because they have a huge list of great (and inexpensive) Lunch specials that will leave you completely satisfied and PACKED with food. NOTE: after lunch food coma is not my fault! I think their Tortilla Soup is the best in San Antonio, and so do lots of other customers because it is probythe most orders thing as a side on their menu. I was not fooling around the other day and got the BIG bowl of Tortilla Soup and a salad. Absolutely perfect in ever way. Take my word for it...you'll thank me later!

This is one of my favorite restaurants to eat at, the service there is very nice. But I am sad to see it close at the end of this month.

I've seen people mention the service being slow, but that hasn't been my experience at all. The servers are fast, friendly, and actually know the menu, which makes a big difference. The food is consistently amazing -- fresh, flavorful, and worth every penny. Prices are very reasonable for the quality and portion sizes you're getting. Plus, they gave the inside a little facelift recently with beautifully lacquered tables and seating, and it looks great. Easily one of my go-to spots for seafood. If you're into real Sinaloense mariscos, this place is it.

We ordered a chorizo and egg burrito, an asada taco with egg, a chorizo taco with egg, and a chorizo plate. The main reason for the lower rating was the chorizo. It had a very unusual texture and flavor--almost more like ground chicken. It wasn't bad, just very different from any chorizo I've had before, so it wasn't quite what I expected. My husband said the burrito tasted good but had a bit too many beans. My son's chorizo plate was plentiful and he said it was good. The salsas were also really good with no complaints there, and the customer service at the drive-thru was friendly. Overall, it was a decent experience. When I rate places, I usually compare them to the best and worst I've had in that type of food. This spot definitely isn't the worst, but it didn't quite beat my favorites either. I went back and forth between giving it a 3 or a 4, but it's still worth trying, and I wouldn't hesitate to stop here again if I needed a quick bite.
