Nice little quaint spot. Restaurant was pretty slow so we sat ourselves as instructed. We were brought some complimentary chips & salsa and our drink order was taken right away. Took a bit longer than expected for the food to come out considering things were slow. It is stated in the menu that the food is fresh, but I assure you; the tortillas are pre-packaged store bought tortillas. Most of the food was bland and that steak fajita skillet had about 3 onions, 1 bell pepper, and maybe 7-8 pieces of fajita meat. Sadly this placed missed the mark for me. Staff seemed nice. Great food. The service was wonderful. My husband asked for one beer and they brought him two. Not sure why but I think the waitress said here the bartender made a mistake lol. The manager, I'm assuming, brought us out a complimentary dish to try when we arrived. Our waitress was on top of things. I tried the alfalfa chalupas and it's going to be a craving for a while. Our "go to" for specific menu items. My wife gets the Chalupa Compuestas and I roll with the Guacamole Nachos. We both like their Tortilla Soup also. Chalupa Compuestas 9/10 - beef or chicken and guacamole atop two crisp tostadas, loaded with beans, melted cheese, lettuce, tomato and onion. My wife gets the chicken and subs the lettuce for alfalfa sprouts. She loves the flavor and they are also generous in portion. Guacamole Nachos 8/10 - cheese, beans, guacamole, jalepenos and onions. Constructed on tostada chips, the ingredients are large and tasty. Tortilla Soup 8/10 - their own recipe made with both serrano and ancho chiles in a spicy chicken broth. Served over crispy tortilla strips, cheese and guacamole. Not a chicken meat based but broth. Not your usual CTS, but very good. Service 8/10 - servers are always attentive and friendly. This was the most welcoming place my mom and I could have gone for my first Tex-Mex food experience in San Antonio/Universal City area. I told the server (I think her name was Vanessa) that I'm vegan and she excitedly told the kitchen that and they went above and beyond to make me feel included. They brought out vegan puffy tacos (a restaurant staple apparently) for me to try and I immediately fell in love. Apparently they use fresh and local sprouts and it shows. The tortilla is crisped and filled with your choice of meat or tofu or beans (or avocado in my case). I also ordered vegan enchiladas. They have tofu but I don't do tofu so they customized it for me and added avocado instead. At this point in the review, it should be noted I'm avocado-obsessed. The food was good but the entire experience made it way better. I would return and get the puffy tacos again and maybe try something different or make a meal out of the tacos with the beans and rice. After that, you want a taco that is pliable, so that you can actually pick it up without spilling its contents all over your plate or yourself. Well, my biggest complaint is no outdoor seating. I expected a restaurant called "Patio Cafe" to have a patio, but NOPE! Outside of that, we enjoyed our trip here. My parents wanted to try the puffy tacos that San Antonio is famous for and this place is near my house, so we checked it out. Our server was exceptionally nice, friendly, joking, and very attentive to us throughout our visit. The food was also good. This is the best blending of local Mexican food for my tastes. Traditional options like the "mashed" version of refried beans (I am not a fan of San Antonio's soup-style beans) along with well-made local favorites like the aforementioned puffy tacos. My family and I have come here for years but, I think today was the last time. The food was so bland! The whole grain rice was very bland and undercooked, the beans were just meh, so so. My daughter couldn't eat any thing other than the puffy taco. We ordered from the kids menu fries, nachos and watermelon. They were going to charge extra $1.99 for the tiny little pale pink pieces of watermelon that were inedible. I complained and they took it off the bill. The so called nachos was two tortillas with unmelted cheese and there was an obscene amount of tasteless fries. We spent $33.00+ for two lunch specials and a kids meal. Let's say for example how a Norwegian or the Philippino person etc might make Tex Mex after trying one or twice . I'll start with the most important one the enchiladas the chili/meat sauce to be exact, theres no way it's not Salisbury packet mix or beef gray packets mix and nothing more . The puffy taco could have just been a potato idk it was flavorless and the tostada was cold mostly due to the half inch slice keeping it all chilled but the most offensive of all may be the fact that they don't serve any spicy/hot salsa green or red there is a salsa but it doesn't taste like salsa .
