After reading the raving review by my buddy Jay G., I knew I had to give this place a try. I came here for lunch with a friend on 11/15/2019. When we arrived at noon, there was already a short line out the door. A quick peek inside revealed a clean interior. There were a few tables inside (plus a couple outside) for dine-in customers. A TV on the wall was tuned to the Food Channel. By the time I was done scanning the interior, it was my turn to order. I got their famous tri-tip sandwich ($9.95) with a few condiments and avocado added ($1 extra), potato salad ($2.95), and a fountain drink ($1.75). The total, with tax, was $17.02 (pro tip: order takeout to avoid paying sales tax). The sandwich was massive and delicious! The tri-tip was seasoned with their house blend of dry rub and smoked to a perfect medium rare. The meat was tender and moist. They didn't overuse the dry rub which allowed the flavor of the meat to shine through. The portion was very generous. There was at least half a pound of meat in the sandwich. My friend couldn't finish his and had to take it home. The potato salad was tasty as well. It was creamy but not mushy. The staff was very friendly and welcoming. I'm so glad I finally gave this place a try. Great food, great value. 5 stars in my book! Chef Kellie has put in so much of her heart and soul into creating a healthy lifestyle that's sustainable - from honey from her own honey bees to fresh veggies and herbs grown from her own backyard. The fact that she's the first Mekho in Contra Costa County is a testament to her generous personality and love of hosting friends and family. Everything, from the mocktails with beautiful homemade syrups, refreshing salad, garlic noodles with a veggie twist, delicious and innovative thin crust pizzas (the asparagus gremolata was our absolute favorite), and mouth watering chocolate chip and brown butter cookies and ice cream, were so unique to her and so so flavorful. Why it makes sense to charge $10.50 a person where everyone gets one 4-inch long skewer, one tiny spanakopita, one 1-inch thick vegetarian tofu wrap, and one giant cookie is beyond all of us (the organizing committee)... We organized a welcome event for a new faculty member, and were embarrassed that there was not enough food. Luckily, there was backup plan which saved the day. 2. No serving utensils (tongs, spoons, plates, serving ware) were provided. While this company is known for generating Zero Waste, it is bemusing that this apparently means serving utensils are not given. 3. On a related note, there was soft plastic cellophane which wrapped the platters, so Mixing Bowl is not actually Zero Waste. 4. There was way too much peanut sauce (two quarts) given how little tofu wraps there were. 5. The skewers, which were supposed to be vegan, had meat on them. This occasion was special - my wife and I were throwing our daughter an engagement party for about 70 people. Thank goodness I hired Cindy! Forget the fact there is no way I could have done this on my own for that many people anyway - but what really made the event was the fact she was beyond the ultimate professional she was a better version of me (sorry not trying to brag - just stating facts). She was incredibly prepared (and brought her daughter Ronnie who was an amazing help as well!). She knew her way around my grill as if it was her own. She brought all the right tools and gadgets to ensure every dish came out perfect - which ALL of them did! And she even took the tails off the 10 lbs of shrimp I had mistakingly ordered - in literally minutes - incredible! Everything was cooked, grilled and presented with absolute perfection. Last night was the start of something special between my family and love.cook.nourish. Cindy is now the only person I will trust going forward and is now unofficially an adopted member of our family or should I say my sister from another mother... The menu itself is limited on options but that was no problem. I had gotten the chicken noodz and cream cheese wontons on the side. The chicken noodz were $19 and the wontons were $11. Pricey, yes but most food trucks are, so I'm not knocking them for that. The chicken noodz were alright, nothing to rave over. Just average garlic noodles. So it was still good enough. The veggies that it came with were soft, in which I liked and they did have decent flavor. The chicken on the other hand was very salty. Not salty to where I couldn't eat it, but salty enough to have me write about how salty they were. Was it worth the $19? Probably not, but I ate it & got full anyways. The cream cheese wontons on the other hand were below average. Usually most places also have bits of imitation crab meat in it with the cream cheese, but this was just a straight glob of cream cheese, which I didn't hate, but didn't love either. They were fried well, as you can see on the picture, but lacked flavor; possibly not the best cream cheese or maybe they can start adding the imitation crab meat as an option, if some customers prefer. The sweet & sour sauce that came with it is also not what I'm used to. I'm used to the red Chinese sweet and sour sauce, but they had Sweet chili sauce like for Lumpia's, but it was still good. What got me was the portion to price ratio on this side. This side dish was $11 and only came with 4 cream cheese wontons. For $11, I think they should at least throw in 6 pieces instead of 4. Overall, would I come again? Probably not. I was hoping for better, but they did not deliver to my expectations. Hope this place is good for other people, though.
