This gym is completely inaccessible. There's no van accessible spot, there are 2 extremely heavy doors with big transfers. There are no push buttons. There are 2 lifts for the pool to get people in and out of the pool that have been broken for well over a year. The regular bathroom stalls have an "accessible" stall, but a wheelchair doesn't fit. It's also often "broken" and blocked off. There is 1 accessible toilet and shower but there isn't any buttons to help get in and out, there are no safety bars, and no emergency push buttons. As a rule gyms are loud, can you imagine if someone fell in that bathroom? Nobody would hear and who knows how long they'd be on the floor before anyone thinks about checking. If you're totally able bodied, the gym is probably fine. If you are a wheelchair user or similar, don't bother. I've been going here for about 3-4 years now and it's just a complete disaster here. The gyms equipment is falling apart, the equipment is also just awful old and outdated. The locker rooms smell like ass and damn near make you pass out every time you go in there. I'm not sure what's holding this gym back from shutting down or renovating it but it needs to happen. The only thing good about this gym to me is that it's convenient. But again, this place is simply just a disaster and if you were looking to join I'd go to the one in Severn, it's worth the trip. read more

I have been a LA fitness member for about 2 months now. I have been visiting different locations as I travel between MD, VA and DC a lot. I came across this one when I visited my friends in Catonsville. It's a smaller gym compared to the ones I usually I go to. It does not have basketball court. That's the main reason I gave them 3 stars. Pool is pretty clean and I like their spa a lot. Best spa after the one at Crystal city. Very clean. Sauna is huge. Very spacious. But to compensate for the loss of basketball court they have squash courts. They have plenty of parking spots. The locker is decent. I am not sure why they have carpets in the locker room as it absorbs water and stinks a lot. read more

The Towson LA fitness on York Road is a very bright, uplifting facility. That's always clean never crowded. The pool is always a perfect temperature and the shower facilities are immaculate. They actually clean the Showers and Saunas periodically unlike some gyms we've all been to. I have been a member of this gym corporation since 1991 back when it was but Balleys Total fitness. The acquisition by LA Fitness proved to be a great acquisition with improvements in management and quality work out space. For the money you won't find a better gym nationwide.. read more

If I could post -0 stars I would. Very rude and aggressive staff. Not all but most. I was harassed on several occasions and banned from the gym for no specific reason unless I spoke with the district manager Tyler Monday which I did asking to communicate via email and he refused to communicate unless I only spoke to him via telephone. This resulted in me ultimately feeling uncomfortable, unsafe and forcing me to cancel my membership. LA Fitness is a good franchise this location just sucks, Sadly disappointed. read more

Another Update! The same day I posted this, I called LA Fitness Corporate. Everything I say in here I said on the phone. I was told the was a change in the operations mgr and that the district mgr was on vacation. So I was a told a week. I never received a call back, 3 weeks went by. I went in to the LA Fitness on a Saturday 7/29/2017 @ 9:00 am to cancel my membership. First let me say the guy at the front desk didn't even seem the slightest bit concerned why. Like no want to even save the client base. He said " oh you have come between 9-5 mon-fri because only the operations mgr can do that." I say ... " well I work 9-5 and I not about to take off from work to cancel a gym membership. I joined at any time, why can't cancel" He responds" Well you can go to any LA Fitness and speak to an operations mgr to cancel" Me " Ok can I have the phone numbers" Him " Oh, you have to go on line, I don't have anything with the numbers" So I leave because I didn't. I go to my car, look up the number to the surrounding LA fitness' and call. And guess what. All of the operations managers, work 9-5 mon-fri . This is a effing joke. I call back to corporate on Monday. Speak with someone, and she says on yes I see where you call, she reads over my complaint. Its so far from I said, it ridiculous. I had to reiterate with other lady, and went over how no one ever called and the whole operations manager thing. And my schedule, solved the problem pretty easy . Emailed me a link to mail in to be cancelled . And can you guess what happened after that............. I got a phone call, from the Arbutus LA Fitness. To late... Ive joined another GYM, in the area where they keep in clean. UPDATE!! Over the time I've been member of this gym. Cleanliness has been an issue. I have complained and I know that I am not the only one. I have complained to several different people. They have had several management switch outs since I've been here.... Well at least that what it appears to be the case. I know that some of cleanliness issues are from sloppy inconsiderate ass members. Put it back where you got it from... It truly isn't that difficult. But a lot of is the just that the staff do not.. Do there part at all. There have been several cleaning "crews/people" over time also. But it doesn't seem to pass trash bags, paper towels refills, sanitizer refill, and mopping. Not sure if I've ever seen or have seen evidence of either or group fitness rooms mopped or swept (daily) maybe it was done 1 a week. And this is going by how many days pieces of crap (hair ties, tissues, dust balls, hair balls, headbands) stay on the floor for, especially since I'm in there at the very least 3 days a week. I am unsure if the complaints actually get communicated to the upper management. So today I called corporate and really complained. I was told that someone would be calling me back. I've been a member here for just about a year now. Very disappointing. There are SO MANY broken machines that have had a "service ordered" sign for a year. Doesn't seem like they will ever be fixed. Not every dumbbell has a pair. There aren't pins for every machine. Some staff members smoke weed in the parking lot then come into the gym to "work" but they stink up the whole place. I would be a lot happier if they actually fixed the machines !! read more

Dirty, no managment, no attention to detail, sauna is always broke, front door is always broke, towel dispenser is always empty, sanitizer dispenser barely works, weights never re racked, bathrooms dirty and smell, small lockers are always full (I usually am one of the first people in there and saturdays and the lockers are all prelocked), lifeguards just play in there phones instead of policing the pool area/sauna area. Bottom line is I have been a member of this gym for over two years and I just canceled my membership. No body working there seems to care one bit if anything is done correctly. Kinda sad because it's a great location. I have asked to have the manager call me multiple times and I have never got a return call. Very disappointing. read more

A particularly spacious, well-equipped, and clean fitness club. After my nearby (much older, run-down) LA Fitness location in Catonsville closed, I switched grudgingly to this location. After a few weeks of regular use, I'm really happy that decrepit old location closed. This location has: * Notably longer hours (closing 11pm M-Th, 10pm Fri, 8pm Sat/Sun) * Much friendlier staff (old one seemed to specialize in surly "who-cares?" staffing) * Much newer equipment, and better yet everything appears maintained and working (as opposed to the poorly repaired circa-2000 equipment at the closed Catonsville club) * Clean * Lots of activity rooms * Plenty of machines with duplicates among the resistance machines * Modern machine designs (no need to add +5 top-off weights which are integrated now, designs are optimized to decrease chances of doing an exercise wrong and injuring oneself) * Each type of workout area seems to have enough space and equipment (most clubs seem to favor just one or two categories out of cardio, activity, resistance, and free weights) It was a pleasure to use the smooth-running new recumbent bikes that have multiple programs, have a place to stash electronics and reading materials, and even a little built in fan and armrests. It's like we're in the 21st century! Cellular coverage seems much better at this location also (Sprint). I usually come dressed for the gym, but at a glance the men's locker room was one of the cleaner, less nasty ones I've seen. Only quibbles: * I'd put more music on the overhead displays, rather than local news channels * Would love to see even longer hours (midnight nightly?) * Missing a couple of resistance machines that were old favorites of mine So far, I'm happy to have made the switch. I remember when this place was a saddidy Ballys that I couldn't go to unless I had a special membership. Well times, they have changed! Now it is a LA Fitness and I can go anytime I want! Take that take that take that! The place is huge! They have lots of machines, they are new and they actually work! HA! I'm totally pleased with this location moreso than the other on 40. I have yet to attend classes, but the studios look pretty awesome. The machines appear to be taken care of, and the staff are generally helpful. i've been a member of this club since it's opened it is now very dirty and there's no soap for the sinks or the showers, employees say they can't do anything because there's no management; not only is it filthy it's not safe random people are allowed to enter I had my locker broken into and again there's just no concern by the staff. also half of the sinks and toilets do not work and a lot of the equipment needs repaired. I also could not renew my membership there cause no one knew how to do that. it's a shame I only live a mile from this club but now I have to drive to another LA fitness location. read more

this place is clean, they're good at that, but the problem is the equipmen, it's falling apart and not fixed. there's " out of order " signes throughout the workout area( some machines have been broken for well over a year with NO indications of it either being fixed or replaced) there's one piece of equipment that one of the arms fell off 8 months ago and it's still sitting there unfixed. treadmills are old , wonky, buttons don't work, TVs on the treadmills don't work, Fred's are loose, out about the quality of the buildings equipment THAT MEMBERS PAY FORof order signs posted on at least 10 of them and growing because they DON'T fix them they just add to the out of order signs as another breaks. recline bikes ONE out of five is working and that one randomly looses its traction in the middle of your workout sending your leg's flying. the juice bar seems to be more closed then open ( understandable because no one's ever getting anything there ?) one thing is for sure tho, they have a number of " trainers " up front where you walk in on the phones trying to get new members to joi oh they care about getting the money. don't go here read more

Okay, I came here for about a month. The only reason why I decided to come here in the first place was because my preferred gym was under renovations. So I came here for 1 month which costs me 75 dollars. 75 DOLLARS. When I pay the other gym only 7 dollars a month. That's LESS THAN 10% of the total cost of LA Fitness. After getting a 1 month membership for 75 dollars, I saw on Groupon that Gold's Gym in Columbia was offering a half off discount... The gym is gigantic and has a lot of space for people to feel good and not claustrophobic. There are a bunch of TV's hooked up on the walls and also have TV's in some of the machines for convenience. There are many rooms that have different purposes and they even have a store where you can buy their products. HOWEVER, the racks are disorganized and the free weights (dumbbells) are all over the place. One time I even saw a 40 pound dumbbell sitting near the pool area.... Alone.... Why??? Either people have no respect and just throw the dumbbells wherever they please or the employees just never re-racks any of the weights. I went there for 14 days straight and at different times to find the free weights disorganized. Why does no one ever re-rack them? It's such a huge hassle for me because the way I work out, I don't have long breaks in between my sets and work outs so I have to find each and every weight all over the place and sometimes there's only 1 40 pound weight while the other 1 is missing..... Then I would have to downgrade to 35 pounds or change workouts. 75 dollars?! The place used to be Bally Total Fitness but now is LA Fitness. You could tell because the free weights and some of the machines are named Bally Total Fitness. It's tough on what to give this place. I'm going to give this place is 2.5 stars, rounding it up to 3. read more

While I am not a paying member of this gym, I have attended classes as a guest of the gym, and let me say, I am glad I am not a paying member. I have taken several of the evening Turbo Strength and Turbo Kick classes and there seem to be problems every time. For the Turbo strength, the gym seems to be lacking in proper equipment, both quantity and quality, for the members to use. There are never enough dumbbells, causing class participants to wander the gym looking for them. Both classes utilize music and instructions from the instructor. The microphones hardly ever work, and the music systems are malfunctioning all the time. The instructor, who by the way is AWESOME, gets frustrated by the lack of response from the management and does his best with what he has to work with. I hope that LA Fitness will work to improve its classes and gym to provide a more effective, and professional environment for those interested in taking the classes. read more

I have been a member for almost two years..used to work for Bally's Corporate Office. Compared to Owings Mills location which has an extremely nasty bathroom, this one is pretty nice. Most of the members are older, there is a smoothie bar although I have never seen it staffed. The bathroom is okay, large and always clean, although the carpet in the locker room is a bit strange. They have physical therapists here and two racquetball courts which is nice, although they do not have a basketball court. Plenty of parking here..fitness center is one level although Owings Mills has two levels...all in all...this gym is worth a try read more

It was a toss up between 1 star and 2 stars....I've been going to this gym for almost a year now and was highly impressed with it when I first started going. It seemed clean and tidy and somewhere I would enjoy to workout however that has severely changed. Weights are now sitting around all over the place-no rhyme or reason-people park wherever they want - fire lane/no parking zones/take up two spots - no one does anything about it. It's like there Are NO RULES at this place! There are no fans either, so forget about circulation. I'm just done with it. Me and my fiancé are finding a new gym ASAP! Since the LA Fitness "coup" I've been very disappointed.. Bally's Sport had TRX band classes, boot camp, kick boxing, very cool instructors, etc - and now, we just have Yoga, Zumba, and cycling.. I'm strongly considering canceling my membership (especially since I have discovered Xpose fitness - review coming shortly!). The gym is no where near as clean as it used to be; there was always a lady with a spray bottle wiping down machines, cleaning the bathroom, etc. Last six days I've been there, there was only paper in the paper towel bins once to clean down the machines after using them and then I sat down on the floor in the room formerly used for TRX/kick boxing, etc. and when I got up I was stunned by all the dirt and dust my tights had pulled up.. All the cool instructors are gone, and now its just a lot of college girls running for 9 hours on the treadmill (someone please stop these girls and give them a meal!) or a lot of men that gawk. I've been followed out of the gym once for a guy that admitted to "just want to flirt with" me and then the ones that suddenly want to start boxing in the middle of their set while I"m trying to use the TRX cords... This LA Fitness location was formerly a Bally's. It has ample cardio equipment in the front. The inadequately small free weight area is tucked into a corner and usually packed. The culture of this club is off-putting. It's usually full of meatheads that seem to never rerack the weights. Other than that there's a lack of cleanliness- people tend to never wipe down the equipment after use. Today there was no soap in the men's locker room. If I have the time, I'd much rather drive to LA Fitness in Towson or Pasadena, which are much better clubs. read more

Not clean, 6 broken pieces of equipment that have been broken for months. Hell, the decline press machine has been broke for over 5 months. Hot tub isn't open, every other locations been open for a month,they say it's broke that they need a part..... only thing broke is their damn bank account. This was built in 2011 as a Ballys, but was bought out just a few months later, (late 2012) The transition was hard and there were no spinning or weight classes, but I made the best of it. There is always a stair master and a treadmill available no matter what time I work out. I enjoy the weight area which is very big. The locker room is very large and they have stations for someone who needs to shower and do their hair or make up. The facility is very cleaned and the staff at the front desk is always welcoming. Its a hit or miss with the instructors, their is only one, that I find makes me want to to leave the class and do my own thing. I just avoid doing her classes. read more

I love the M, W, F morning Aqua Fit class! I also love the T, TH eve and Saturday morning class but the instructor has been very unreliable. People are rushing to get to class only to have no instructor or an unenthusiastic substitute who shows up late (20 minutes or more) and seems like she really does not want to be there. The sub actually had on jeans, sneakers and a jacket instructing the Aqua Fit class. Tonight we did the workout on our own because once again the instructor did not show up. There was no substitute. We had fun but we are paying a membership for services that they say are included with that membership. No one told us anything when the instructor did not show up. The lifeguard tried to get information for us but no one was able to tell him anything except the instructor may show up. This was 30 minutes into class. q The cleanliness of this place leaves a lot to be desired. The women's locker room smells like mold and corn chips all day, every day. The showers often have sludge and hair in them. The dressing rooms are dirty. I go to the early morning and evening classes and it is the same almost every time, nasty and funky. This gym is conveniently located close to my home but I feel that I am receiving sub par service so I know it is time to look for a new gym. read more
