2026 Review, I have been going to this LA fitness gym since it opened up in the early 2000s My last review was in 2012. I have decided to leave another review for 2026. This place has gotten better. Customer service is enhanced. They are actually starting to greet you. "Hello, how you doing sir or mam." I was quite surprised. With the closure of the La fitness in South/Downey, foot traffic has increased. This La fitness was prepared. Accommodated by closing the basketball court and converting it to a free weight workout zone. I thought that was a good idea. No more pick up games means no more loud and annoying b ballers causing trouble. "MY OPINION ONLY" Facility is well maintained to cleanliness. Workers cleaning equipment, vacuuming the floor, re racking weights, cleaning weights and cleaning treadmills. Kudos for doing that!! Bathroom is cleaner then before. Carpet looks nice and there is always on going mopping. It was worse before. Overall, I see change for the better at this location. People seem happy to workout. Keep it up La fitness. Never forget to greet your customers. We are the customers that keep you in business. Always be kind , courteous and professional. This is my gym. Keeping it clean is always good for business. No resolution. Kevin is apparently the GM but is extremely unprofessional and has taken zero responsibility. They finally canceled after 4 months of me calling and requesting cancellation, only after I went in person. This reflects other reviews online too. BEWARE. Kevin told they would refund me for the months prior since I never went and had been requesting to cancel. He said that just to get me to leave the property. No follow, no refunds, nothing. When I called back to follow up, I was completely ghosted. When I finally did get a hold of Kevin he gave my their 1-800 number and said don't call back I can't help you. Extremely rude. This has been an absolute nightmare. I'm giving up and waking away. They stole my money and were just overall extremely icky and unprofessional. This is very much the shadiest establishment I've ever been to... i don't recommend supporting this business. read more

My first time here since I was in the neighborhood and want to try some new location plus the one that I really like in LB is closing down soon. This gym looks old with old logo (I think since I haven't seen this logo before). Big parking lot and with plenty foots traffic. Service is nice with greeting upon entrance. The layout is similar with the other one that I used to go so abit Dejavu. All seen nice, clean and well maintained. Equipments are also seem in order and well kept. Got a good workout overall. Warning to all members and future patrons, Please exercise caution regarding security concerns in the locker room. I have visited this facility three times; during the second visit, my wallet was stolen, compelling me to involve law enforcement through a formal report. Consequently, I resolved never to return. However, after a lapse of six years, I decided to revisit the facility, only to discover that my goggles were stolen following my shower. I reported this incident to the staff, who uniformly advised that the locker room is unsafe and recommended that patrons refrain from using it. Such conditions are unacceptable from an establishment that relies on customer trust. read more

I've been a member of LA Fitness (on and off) since the early 2000s, and I'm really disappointed with the new "No Gym Bags on the Floor" policy at the Long Beach locations. When I originally signed up, there was no rule against having a small gym bag with basic training gear (straps, bands, sleeves, roller, etc.). Now staff are telling us no bags on the floor at all--everything must stay in a locker or car. For anyone who trains seriously, this slows down workouts, makes it harder to use safety/recovery tools, and can even increase the risk of injury when our equipment isn't accessible. What bothers me most is how this was done. There's no clear, easy-to-find bag policy on the LA Fitness website when you sign up. Instead, this rule is being pushed later through local signs and staff, which feels like a unilateral change to what members originally agreed to--and potentially a breach of contract, since the conditions of use are being changed after the fact while dues stay the same. If the concern is theft or safety, there are better options (more security, cameras, size/placement limits) than banning all gym bags for everyone. As a long-time member, this feels like a downgrade in both service and transparency, and LA Fitness should either rethink this policy or be upfront and fair with members who no longer feel they're getting what they signed up for. read more

I have given this 2 star review because on 10/22/25 the steam room is out of service, and no one is currently working on it. I am also unsure if it is like this everyday, but the sauna is no where near hot. The cardio equipment is not up to date and needs to be swapped out for new treadmills & bikes. There has been a new Pilates studio being added that looks totally up to date and nice, but please do the same with the cardio equipment and maintenance on the sauna/steam room. I Love L.A Fitness, but how does Planet Fitness locations which are cheaper.. already updated with newer cardio equipment and new weight machines. read more

What really makes coming here easy is being able to bring my kids to the daycare there. I feel like my daughter is safe so I am able to focus on my workouts. Thank you to Jen who always engages with my daughter so she has fun while I'm gone. It was a struggle at first for me to leave because she would get upset and now she looks forward to going to play at the gym. Also thank you to Cesia who also makes me and my daughter feel safe and welcome! I do wish my favorite classes were still taught by the instructor Eloisa. There are new instructors are friendly but she brings positive energy to every class and I love her bodyworks and Zumba classes Overall this LA fitness has the most friendly staff and CLEAN facilities in my area. On the rare occasion I have a concern, Daisy who I think is management is on top of it. I also have to mention Max who is very welcoming and acknowledges everyone coming and going. read more

I've had a consistently great experience at the Long Beach LA Fitness. The gym is spacious, well organized, and offers a strong mix of strength and cardio equipment, making it easy to train even during peak hours. I especially love the new lifting weight room that used to be a basketball court--it's a huge upgrade and makes the strength-training area feel far less crowded. Cleanliness is solid, equipment is well maintained, and the staff is professional and helpful, which together make this one of the better LA Fitness locations in the area. read more

I joined LA Fitness last year with the goal to lose some stubborn baby weight I couldn't quite shake after having my son. I never expected that I would gain so much in the process of losing weight and reaching my goals. I love going to the gym, this is the first time in my life I feel truly comfortable going to one. The trainers are amazing and attentive, the staff is always friendly and incredibly helpful, and, most of all, the KidsClub is an absolute life saver and godsend! I am a stay at home mom and have been with my kiddo basically everyday, so when I started at the gym I was nervous to leave him. What I saw instead was such an incredible transformation with my little guy, at first we struggled with separation anxiety like all kiddos do, but it took no time at all for him to get comfortable and to love going to the gym. My son now asks to go everyday and even pulls my gym bag out of the closet, packing it with all the toys he wants to bring. I think one of the things that has really helped me as a mother is knowing my kid is in good hands. Jen is absolutely amazing! She is so sweet, so caring, and so incredibly attentive to all the kids! My son has always been a really shy kiddo but he warmed up to her right away, even giving her hugs, which is super telling to me. I can leave my little here while I work out and not have to worry at all about whether he is having a good time or if he is being cared for like how I would care for him. Absolutely would recommend! Especially if your a mama like me, my kiddo has really come out of his shell over these last 6 months! This gym is getting more and ghetto. Tonight in the showers there were 4 showers out of 8 that didn't even have shower heads so they were inoperable. The soap containers are never full. so rundown. read more

Great gym if you're consistent I've been going to this LA Fitness for a while now and overall it's a really solid gym. Plenty of equipment, so even during busy hours I can usually get my workout in without too much waiting. The free weight area is well stocked, and the machines are generally in good working condition. Staff has always been chill and helpful when I've needed something, and the gym stays fairly clean compared to a lot of commercial gyms. Locker rooms are decent, nothing fancy but they get the job done. It can get crowded during peak hours like any popular gym, but that's expected. If you come a little earlier or later in the day, it's smooth sailing. For the price and what you get, it's hard to complain. Definitely a good option if you're serious about training and want a reliable place to work out. read more

They don't let you transfer the Pilates program to another gym BUMMER! So I called to cancel so that I can sign up at Downey and the representative on the phone said I could only cancel when the operational manager is there which is Monday - Friday 9-5pm. Why do I have to wait until she's at the gym to cancel? She didn't sign me up so why cause this inconvenience? They just want to get their incentives for this promotion but they're lacking quality, my bad for taking the cheap route for $99, I should've just paid the $400 for other Pilate classes at this point. Same elliptical machines haven't worked in months. One turns off on its own while in use. Another jerks on every motion. Relatively clean.

Absolute waste of time. The sales personnel specifically one woman with curly hair. If you want the runaround with no results, make sure you go talk to her. Falsifying policy and procedure to legitimately waste your time. Confirmed an absolute waste of time by speaking to other LA fitness gyms in the area and asking them about their policy & procedure.. Ok so I literally went on yelp just to let the proper audience know how much this gym has changed my families life. In the children's center they treat my babies kind. They always leave happy that's a huuuuuge green flag for me. Also as a believer it makes my day to see the scripture on the white board as I leave the gym talk about where mental physical and spiritual balance this is the place. The staff are friendly and personal. I was gonna go to my car to get my girl a hair band and they had a fresh pack at the front desk. The manager literally knows my babies by there names. I have been coming to this gym for years. Over time management has created an unsafe and unfriendly environment. Most recently the new manager Kevin called the police on a long time member of 20 years after claiming he felt threatened for his life following a heated discussion (that he interjected himself into. )This was a power trip and what seemed to be racially motivated... considering this was an older black gentleman that has a hard time walking. His membership was also revoked. Watching this take place in our community space was very disheartening. A couple years back I was physically assaulted at this gym and informed by the manager Daisy that there was nothing she could do about it because it "wasn't against LA fitness policy". It is also clear to members that management picks and chooses when to enforce policies. Since new management came in... it is also difficult to interact with the regular staff which is part of what members loved about this gym. A space for community and family should be managed by people that do not hold biases. read more

I've been a long standing member of La Fitness, I just added my spouse on to have a membership as well. Carlos started the membership over the phone and was completely dishonest about pricing and what was being billed. When I called to get clarification Abby also lied about how policies and payments work. The people they hire here are dishonest and unprofessional. We'll be contacting BBB and corporate because it's about principles and this business doesn't have any. read more
