Barely any swim lanes because they rent 2 out for swim school out of 4 lanes and then for senior aqua aerobics they are allowed to take up the entire pool and kick people out. Even at 5 a.m. when members arrive for early workouts, Ty always greets everyone with a genuine smile. His positive energy stands out, especially that early in the morning. You can tell he's naturally a happy and kind person, unlike some employees you encounter elsewhere. His demeanor is calm, friendly, and always approachable. Been coming to this Gym for past few years and never had compain about the gym and the staffs working over there, most of them are pretty nice and kind. But after today I think some of the fitness coach might need to focus on their own business instead of gossiping around and talking behind customers. I can see the reason why this guy don't have much classes lined up on his schedule. instead of talking behind others maybe focus more on training yourself, be better in your career? I've been a loyal LA Fitness member for over 10 years, but was deeply disappointed by the behavior of Regional Manager Vanessa (curly hair) She entered the restroom and abruptly, rudely told everyone to stop using the amenities and leave--without any professionalism. I was using a hairdryer for just a moment when she glared at me and demanded I leave, while others were still using the equipment. Remodel is a 10/10. Took it from a very meh gym to extremely nice. I really like the turf area for stretching, and now there are plenty of squat racks, cable machines and free weights. The staff are super nice. It does look like the ceiling is still leaking above their desk, but that's none of my business and maybe they like a little weather. I met my fiancé there in 2023. We are getting married this November. So basically go to the gym because it's nice and also because you're looking to land a husband. read more

The yoga room lighting does not work any longer; can't be turned off or dimmed, which is terrible when you're attending a yoga class. Management has known about it for over a year now and said recently they have no plans to fix the lights, even though they spent hundreds of thousands of dollars upgrading the facility recently. If I could give it zero I would. The girl up front with the glasses has a sour attitude and played 20 questions with me on how I got a 3 days pass when I signed up for it online. Then after dealing with her you get directed a salesperson who just haggles you for a gym membership. He was cool but was not a fan of the whole process. Gym itself is average and crowded. Things are dirty and the bathrooms a horrendous. Not worth wasting your time to sign up or even go in. Overall a good gym since the renovation. However buyer beware. Never sign up for a service or class unless it is already in place. I added access to Pilates, glute room, and studio group training in July at an additional fee than it would have cost to just add Pilates. It is now November and customers still do not have access to the glute room and studio training. Each time I ask when it is coming the response is soon or 30 days. $100+ waisted and still counting if soon is as accurate as soon was when customers kept asking when they were going to renovate ( turned out we told that for multiple years.) Renovation is just Ok. But you missed the mark in the aerobics room: You eliminated the entire mirror on the side wall. That's going to missed. We used that a lot for posture during class. You cluttered the other side with cycles so that's going to be a problem when we have crowded classes. And that's quite often. Those cycles take up to 10-15 spots of workout room. Also, please fix the light so we can turn it OFF for yoga and Pilates. It's been stuck "on" for months and takes away from the classes. And why are the walls black? La Fitness Review Looking for a gym for the new year? These are NOT the kind of people to do business with. The gym is nice enough and will probably be nicer with the recent renovations. LA Fitness preys on women and is the slimy used cars salesmen of the gym world! MOMS BEWARE!! They stole $180 of my money that I needed back for my baby's hospital bills. They will tempt you with being the only gym to offer childcare, but it is a cesspool of daycare germs. The amenities are plenty, but really, how often are you using them!? They will also lie and tell you anything to get you to sign up. The managers, Dimitrio and his counterpart, both solicited me for months over the phone, text and email because I had come as a guest with my friend. I was sent many "special offers" that were really just the regular website price but marked up to look like deals. The managers promised me if I signed up online they would fix the "deals" once I came in, in person. They promised if I needed to cancel in the first two weeks before the annual dues were charged, just go to them and they could issue a full refund. I found out the hard way these were all lies. After signing up and going to the gym 2 times, once to workout and once for their pointless fitness assessment, I was hit with unexpectedly high hospital bills for my baby. Being a single income family, we needed the money back, fast! I had paid $180 for initiation and first+last month. I cancelled one week to the day from when I signed up (no different than doing a one week trial). The managers gave me the runaround and staged it out for days, claiming they were going to corporate. They would not refund my money and claimed that the paperwork I signed said I only had five days to cancel and not the two weeks they promised. I even went to corporate through my credit card because this was clearly fraud, but they only looked at the paperwork and said it was a legitimate charge. If corporate cannot stand behind the promises their employees make, they need to fire Dimitrio and the other manager for making false promises and lying on behalf of corporate OR they need to stand by the promises their employees and refund my $180. $180 for one workout is not right! I did not return to the gym in hopes of getting my money back to pay bills for my baby's surgery. These are dishonest liars that do not support family or women. read more

I am a former employee of this LA Fitness and now a member. For whatever reason this LA fitness is the only one that has not got reconstruction or a makeover. This building is in desperate need of a makeover. The machines are all so condensed and it really just doesn't feel as nice compared to the others. This gym is single story whereas almost every other LA Fitness is two story. There is no juice bar anymore as well so there is a portion of the gym that is vacant and seems like wasted space. The women's locker room can use some attention at times. I would say that the best workers are Taylor who works kids klub, Ener the master trainer and Alex the custodian. They have been there the longest and are the sweetest, most hard working staff out of everyone employed. I do believe that the kids klub here is probably the most fun out of all the locations. There is a play structure that is huge and as a young adult I even found myself in the structure going down the slide with the kids! There is two bathrooms, a TV section, and even a baby-toddler section. Some of the machines you can tell are starting to give. For the most part this gym does have lots of members. I do not experience any people here who make the gym experience any less. I don't know if I'm bias but I find that the staff isn't as friendly and doesn't greet the members that come. Before when I worked here there was almost always a member trying to just have small chit chat with the front desk or kids klub attendants because we were able to build relationships and actually engage in conversation. The instructors here are very fun and for the most part they do alternate all around San Diego. I suggest taking advantage of all the classes offered. Personally Zumba and body works plus abs classes are my favorite. For beginners wanting to try Zumba I would suggest trying Petra's class, she touches base on a variety of diff genres. My personal favorite is Melanie's class because the music is more upbeat and energetic, her dances are very fun and you will find that the music will start allowing you to have muscle memory. Patty and Diana good instructors for learning some salsa moves. Jackie is a ball of energy and truly emphasizes movement tightening the core, straightening posture and maintaining breathing to the diaphragm. Overall I will continue to use this gym, just find that there are many things that can elevate this gym to be up to par with the others in San Diego read more

I was very impressed today with Josue Lagunas. He was subbing at the gym in Poway. He greeted me when I arrived with a smile and a brief conversation about my workout. He offered suggestions which I took. I took this opportunity to ask him for help. (I've asked this from many staff members before with no luck.). Most of the stationary bikes no longer have pedal straps. As I've recently had knee surgery I need the strap. Josue took the time and found straps to put on one of the bikes. (It's a GYM! Staff is friendly and courteous. Upkeep and maintenance is bad. Womens stall 1 door has been broken for almost a year. Racqeutball door glass shattered about 2.5 months ago and is still not fixed. Leg press and a few other machines have been making aweful racket while in use for over a year. Same with some of the cardio machines. I think only 1/3 of the tvs work now. I am only a member for the racquetball but there is only 1 functional court there now which is the one that leaks during rain season. That will bring us to 0 courts in a few weeks. read more

He took my number and notified the vending machine person several times so I could get my money back. He followed up several times when I was at the gym. Since he was not successful, he gave the information to Vanesa OM, who immediately called the vending machine person again to report the money loss. I appreciate Demetrio's help and follow-up. He has excellent customer service skills; you don't find many good people who volunteer to assist and follow through these days. Why is this LA fitness humid inside? It's always just a touch too hot and the air is damp. The machines aren't the newest but they're not so old I'd complain. It's an average size location with ample parking. It's less busy than a lot of other ones get but I wonder if that's because it's awful to be inside. My body temp runs a little hot to begin with but I'm sweating here just changing in to my workout clothes. It's really miserable for me. Not only is it clean with lots of equipment available during a busy time but it just felt welcoming, which I realize does set a tone for the upcoming workout (and makes me realize that I should be more friendly to staff when walking into any gym and am greeted by them.) Don't join LA Fitness in Poway! The machines are OLD, and the company and staff management do not care. As an example: Three different bikes all with rusted/cracked handles. Four or more grind when you pedal. Three or more the program doesn't even work. A person shouldn't have to try multiple bikes to get one that works! If you happen to get one that does work someone next to you could still be riding one that's grinding so you still have to listen to it. Headphones don't even block out the noise. There are cleaner, cheaper gyms in the area where staff and the company care. Do yourself a favor and join one of them instead. read more

Not sure why this place has such a low score... I am a new member here (due to their having a kids club), as well as a longtime member of 24 hour fitness. Arman made the sign-up process incredibly easy and even somewhat fun. Definitely go in and see him if you want any info on the gym, want to try it out, or even just want a tour of their facility. You'll be pleasantly surprised. They also provide a fitness assessment upon enrollment, ask for Trey and he'll take good care of you. He's also great if you need any assistance in using any of the machines there. All of the staff has been friendly and the gym, locker rooms, and bathrooms have been clean every time I've visited. Only thing is you'll need your own lock here, if you plan to use a locker. read more

I don't remember the name of the general manager, but he helped me with signing up for a membership. He only showed me one price for membership, $54 a month. I told him that I thought it was $27 a couple years ago, that seems like a steep jump. Then he said if I were just planning on going to LA Fitnesses in CA then there's a cheaper price, and then an even cheaper price if I only plan on going to the Poway location, which was my intention. $29.99 a month, plus the initial $75 membership fee. Fine, that'll work. He took me around the gym, and all the equipment looked outdated, but most everything else looked fine. He said all the equipment is getting replaced soon. It did feel pretty muggy inside and could've been colder, but whatever. The main reason why I wanted to join was to try the personal training sessions, which you get one free session with your membership. So I schedule it the next day with Ramone. The session was great. No complaints. But then comes out the salesman version of Ramone. Felt like I was talking to someone completely different. Just so you're aware of pricing before looking into personal training sessions, they require you to lock yourself in a 6 month plan, with a $99 enrollment fee, that they'll bring down to $49 for whatever reason. 3 times a week is $600 a month at $50 a session, so $3600 total. 2 times a week is $440 at $55 a session, $2640 total. 1 times a week is $240 at $60 a session, $1440. This is on top of your monthly gym membership. If you cancel early, they cover half the remaining balance, and you gotta pay the other half. I originally thought maybe I could schedule a PT as needed, but that's not the case. I'm 35, 6'4", 264lbs. I'm overweight, but if you were to look at me you probably wouldn't think I'm as heavy as I am. The price alone was too much, so I said I'd have to talk to my wife, even though I know she'd say no. Ramone told me to call her on the spot, not gonna happen. I told him "I know you're trying to get me." It was very obvious because he'd try to do some other method to try to get me to agree to it. At one point he showed me a picture of his grandfather who had diabetes and died of cardiovascular disease, then essentially said if I don't sign up I'll probably suffer the same fate, and that he's just trying to buy me time with my wife. Very bizarre. If he would've let me go after the second time I said I'd have to think about it, I probably would've kept the membership, but he kept pushing and it just left a bad taste in my mouth. Once upon a time, specifically on 8/20/2023, a raging storm... let's say Hurricane Hilary hit the good town of San Diego. Because of the fear of its wrath, gyms around San Diego started to pack up shop and close early. With me unknowingly of the circumstances, I was left without my OG gym, 24 Hour Carmel Mountain. During these harsh times and trying to find a gym to not lose my gainz, Michael, Arman, and Tristan came to the rescue. I arrived at the LA Fitness Poway gym by going through this torrential storm. After walking through the clear double doors of LA Fitness Poway, I was greeted with warmth by these great fellows. They welcomed me like I belonged even though I'm loyal to my 24 Hour Fitness in Carmel Mountain. Overall, they were pretty freaking awesome and showed me around the gym. Kudos to LA Fitness Poway for keeping the gym clean and updated. The bathrooms were nice and spacious. The gym equipment was much different than I'm used to, which gave me a pretty good "pump" (I think that's what the kids call it these days). They even had an indoor basketball court (perfect for the crazy "Twister-esk" storm that was on-going) and a large indoor pool. I had a great time there.
