I had a very disappointing experience at this LA Fitness location. Two employees were extremely rude and unprofessional toward me, and the situation became serious enough that I had to escalate it to the manager. The manager said they would "talk to them," but from a member's perspective, that does not feel like a complete resolution unless the issue is formally documented and reviewed. I understand employee discipline is private, but members should still expect basic respect, professionalism, and accountability from staff. This location needs stronger staff training and better management follow-through. A gym should feel like a place where members can focus on their health, not deal with rude or dismissive employees. It's a shame, really. I used to go here 4 years ago before I moved out West. It was my favorite gym near me. Unfortunately, that isn't the case anymore. I recently moved back, signed up immediately with them, and kept my regular gym routine going. First and foremost, the weights. Half of the weights on the rack are missing, literally MIA somewhere on the floor, and good luck finding anything between 15lbs to 35lbs cause they're just, missing. Second, the machines. They don't have a lot of machines. Honestly, after seeing other gyms, why do they have such old and archaic options. Either way, a good chunk of them are broken, can't use them anyways. Third, if we're paying a price comparable to other gyms I. The area that actually DO have things in CONTROL, why is the sauna and jacuzzi broken and when you ask if there's an ETA, you get an idk? At this point, Planet Fitness offers a higher quality gym at a better price than you, and that's, sad. No hate to PF, it gets the job done, don't let anyone lie to you, but cmon, I paid the extra for LA cause I wanted the amenities, and the amenities are broken half the time. An experience with La fitness in Saugus and Benjamin W (Training supervisor) occurred on April 29. . Ben stated to me, promising to me that I have 7 days from the 29th of April to get a full refund. I had my first session with jared B at saugus location on april 30th @10:03am. After this 30m session i went to Ben to inform him I am canceling. I came back to the gym at 1:36pm on April 30th. Ben agrees to put in the refund but also said I have one session left and a few days to cancel. I started to feel uncomfortable, he would not submit my refund request. May 6th @1:46 I go to the gym and it is exactly one week from April 29th. I follow up with Ben to see how my refund is going. He says everything is good. I took only his Word, when I should have taken his words on paper. Ben knows the policy- you have to cancel within 3 days of new memberships to get full refund. Information he forgot to mention when going over the signing documents. He never mentioned anything about 3 days because it was 7* days. I talk to Ben, instead of Ben mentioning the 3 day refund policy he continues to lead me on by saying he has completed the paperwork and I should get refund within two weeks. I spoke with operation manager Arnaldo S and voiced my concern (last week of May 25-31) I voice to member services my concern and after my continous calling and a week of "investigating" they respond " we couldnt get a hold of you". The member service agent responded- the number on file was not right- I found this confusing as I called with a follow up a few days later with a different representative and they had no issue reaching out to me via cellphone. ultimately the original agent who Is doing the investigating said" do you have that in writing?" and said "theres nothing we can do", they said I signed the document for 3 days not for 7. Very disappointed with my membership with the inability to downgrade. Originally agreed to two training sessions per week but found my schedule only permits 1 per week. When asked to reduce billing to one per week the gym refused to downgrade until June. The gym would be VERY willing to have me add. Quality of this place is declining very fast! The bathrooms are dirty and floor is constantly wet ( not sure if water or urine). Our paper towels were taken away completely. They were replaced with hand driers. There is only one drier in locker room and one in bathroom. Jacuzzi is never operating. Always broken ( for months! ) walls in the bathroom have wholes that remind days of paper towels holders. I have been a member since they opened and it was not always like that. I've been to gyms all over the country and many ones that were not clean, but this was by far the worst. At first sight the gym was very nice. It matched my impression of the online presence based on first few pictures I saw. They had racketball courts, a gym and a turf area. These were all great and I was happy to see the many options for fitness. The problem came when I went to use a locker. I went to put my stuff away and was disgusted. The trash cans were full, there was trash all over the floor, damaged walls and never been cleaned amenities. This was disgusting and I decided to not shower before I even considered putting my feet on the ground here. The actual workout equipment was decent, but the place was crowded and all kinds of shit misplaced and not put away. On top of this, the overall vibe of people here were assholes. People shit talking others and being rude. Although it didn't happen too much to me, I did see it all over. This is not a gym you want to go. I wish there were negative stars on here because this horrible excuse for a gym does not even deserve 1 star. This is the absolute most disorganized, dirty, and unprofessional gym I have ever set foot into in my entire life and I've traveled extensively. Half the weights are not racked and the ones that are you would think Stevie Wonder put them back after being spun around 69 times blindfolded...yes, blindfolded. Verizon would be unhappy with this place because there's definitely not more bars in more places. They don't even have enough barbells to fill the squat racks and benches at the same time so there are just empty benches and you're left standing around like the giphy of John Travolta from Pulp Fiction with his hands in the air nodding his head or the dog sitting in the burning house drinking coffee saying "This is fine". You might feel cleaner in an episode of Hoarders than this gym. The trash was overflowing in the locker room, paper towels were empty at the sinks, and barely anyone and definitely no staff clean off the equipment - the handful of staff were far too busy sitting at their desks talking to each other than making sure any hygiene/sanitizing products were available. The gym was packed with barely any available machines or equipment. You'll be able to get your steps in though as you go an expedition far and wide for the weights that are missing from the racks yet still can't seem to find them anywhere. It really makes me wonder what the manager/franchise owner of this location is like. There is zero pride in the upkeep and overall operation of this place. It's mind-blowing. The BEST part about this gym...was leaving. Find literally ANYWHERE else to go if you want to keep your sanity and have a productive workout. read more

This has got to be the most ......unorganized....full of capacity gym in the world. Showing up to this gym after 5 is the worst. After certain hours there's absolutely NO place to workout. We end up finding a corner and standing there for the majority of the workout. The machines do not get wiped down after use. I've sat and watched people end their workout and just walk away . The machines aren't up to date the bike machine foot holders are broken. The locker rooms and the pool are the best amenities they have at the gym. I do not wanna get started on the basketball gym. Guys you knew what you was doing when you built that small ass gym. There's no organization. There's no one in the gym to handle situations like who has next etc etc There should be a sign up sheet at the FRONT DESK being monitored so there's no confusion. Wth is even going on over here I went in for a day pass which is 20 dollars. That is INSANE and I couldn't literally do anything because it was so packed. I would not recommend this place for anyone who's really looking to get a workout in. Too much distractions and yelling and people just all over the place. Not to mention in the middle of a pandemic. I felt like things couldn't get worse than Boston sports club, but boy was I wrong. Things that are wrong with this gym: Old and very outdated equipment. Think exercise bikes that look like they are from the 80's, and treadmills that groan and constantly need repairing. Management should probably replace these but they don't. Locker rooms that are smelly and disgusting. The men's locker room is stifling and smells like a swamp. It never feels clean. On top of this, I'm led to believe that management is aware of these problems and doesn't care. They once spent money on a DJ to play annoying, rap music on 'member appreciation' day, when really that money should have been used instead to fix the four or five broken treadmills that were out of commission. I went to the gym today and I was very disappointed because the sauna was not open yet. Their reason was social distancing, but it just did not make any sense to me because everything was in full capacity and everybody was everywhere !! I become a member at LAFitness close to one year. When I joined the gym I was seeking a personal trainer to help me achieve my fitness goals. Tommy, the gym's personal trainer has been amazing fitness trainer. He's very consistent with his schedule. He guide me through the process and keeps track of our goals and exercises. Gym has what you need to train and get and stay in shape. Some equipment is older but still does the trick plus plenty of free weights. Tons of cardio equipment treadmills elliptical and stair machines. Has a full basketball court racquetball courts and an Olympic sized pool it also has an aerobics room with heavy bags for boxing or MMA training. I see lots of complaints about canceling memberships but pay by the year and have never had a problem always dealt with Luis the manager good guy. If your looking for all the fancy bells & whistles go to Equinox or Latitudes but for price this place is much better than Boston Sports Club with comparable pricing I gotta admit this place has really gone downhill especially with the maintenance the staff is great it's that corporate won't pay and the turnover rate is staggering so once they get a good cleaning staff they don't retain them and those pictures are the results. Also I've been a member here for 8 years it's been same equipment which I don't really care weights are weights but some updated cardio equipment would be nice. I was in LA Fitness in Naples Florida it was a 10 Star hard to believe same company. Rugs here are filthy if they hired a cleaning company or paid to retain employees and keep place clean I wouldn't even mind. My boyfriend and I have been coming to this gym for the past 7 years. We've seen and appreciated the renovations they have done including the pool, basketball court and artificial grass area. Unfortunately since COVID, we haven't been able to use most of the new areas. For a while, it seemed like most of the equipment were either waiting on required service work or needed it. The staff is usually friendly but the locker room/bathroom stalls can get pretty gross. I noticed for a while their soap was incredibly watered down to the point it was almost just water. However, the establishment is constantly making changes so we will see what the future holds. read more

Avoid this place! Do not initiate membership with LA Fitness! I started membership with this Saugus LA Fitness gym before the pandemic. They were shutdown for a while. I didn't cancel my membership immediately because I wanted to support the gym so they can reopen. However, it is a nightmare once they reopen. An email was sent out on 8/19/2020 6 pm that the gym will re-open the next day (8/20/2020), and notified me that LA Fitness will charge me again. I noticed that they will not allow people to play basketball and no swimming, so I've requested to refund. However, they charged me another monthly fee, and also charged me the annual renew fee which is not due in another 6 months! Then I went to the front desk to try to talk with the store manager, but already saw a line of people waiting, and they were all canceling their memberships. I peeked into the gym and immediately understood why: social distancing rules, state and city orders were not followed in this gym, and no staff is enforcing the rules. Half of the people are not wearing face coverings. There were no signs showing how many people can use the weightlifting equipment at the same time. For your own sake, read all the reviews. I'm sad to say I've been a member there for 10 years! I actually signed up at a Little Peach (now Tedeschi's) store down broadway before the gym was even opened. And over those years I've seen the changes, when the gym opened it was so gorgeous, clean and well maintained, people were grandly and the gym was a paradise, enough people to keep you motivated but now enough that it keeps you from working out.. fast forward to NOW, no one gives a crap that machines are ripped, broken, not working, the locker rooms are so dirty that the seats and wall are stained. Certain times there's so many people in there, I'm not kidding it's a fire hazard. They are definitely over capacity. Now the gym is still good but FOR $39 a month ??? LOL you'd think I'm kidding, It's really sad. Planet fitness 5 mina down the road charges $10 for a place I'm not going to catch tetanus from. There's still hope as other locations are not on this level of sloppyness yet. Even to cancel your membership is a hassle, you have to come in, pick up a letter and mail it. Bit hesitant to write this review...but honestly I feel compelled to do so now. Giving one star because of its inconsistencies with opening. Countless times I have gotten up early, gotten dressed and driven there, only to drive back because the opener won't show. This amounts to a waste of time, gas, and tolls I pay on the way there. Myself and other members who only have to ability to work out in the early morning, are left disappointed. Without any recourse to resolve this, as there is no corporate office, or any staff that cares. My rating would be more like 3.5 or 4 but can't do half stars on yelp. Started going to this gym when it bought out Bally's. Pros: Affordable gym with pool. I find it very difficult to find a gym with a pool that has the same affordability. There are racket ball courts, basketball court, classes that includes cycling, and plenty of equipment. Lots of fit bodies to aspire to but this place has a diverse crowd so you don't feel too bad when you're trying to lose that muffin top! Cons: It is a hit or miss if the showers are clean. I usually see a lot of hair in the drains. They do random maintenance on the spa, which may take more than one day. This is happening less frequently but it is still a pain. No lifeguard at pool- but I am okay with that. At peak hours it gets verrry crowded. I try to go in the afternoon before 4 or late at night. In the ladies' room I find it really odd that there is only one soap dispenser near the sinks closest to the toilets. read more

LA Fitness is okay but has a ton of issues and needs a major overhaul. I go mainly for the classes and equipment upstairs because the machines downstairs are always crowded and I often feel uncomfortable. There's TOO MANY PEOPLE. Maybe that's why they can't seem to be able to keep the place clean. I always find that the sanitizer to clean the equipment runs out and does not get refilled, the bathroom stalls often does not have toilet paper and are dirty.They need to do a better job keeping up with the cleaning. And the problem is not with the cleaning staff, I always see them working hard. There's just way too many people coming to this gym and not enough staff. Now, whatever you do, DO NOT SIGN UP FOR PERSONAL TRAINING. I signed up a while back and based on my experience it's not worth the money. I went through countless trainers that had totally different styles because trainers don't seem to stay there long. Regardless of what those high pressure sales people tell you, keep your hard earned money. They also double billed me for one month for my training classes and I never received a refund. Corporate told me to talk to the Saugus branch and Saugus kept sending me to corporate for months. Very dishonest and I would never recommend anyone waste their time with it. This place robbed me! They started charging my card twice a month. I continued to call and every time I tried to talk to someone the manager was never there!!!!! I actually had to cancel my credit card so they could not charge me twice anymore... so basically when I realized this happened I was out 200. Dollars and they never reimbursed me. The staff here is really lazy, most of the time on the phone, won't give you a moment of service or questions. All sanitizer areas are empty and small majority of workout equipment is broken or have unfinished maintenance. Was a member for years, and a fairly happy one at that. However, that all changed when I had to cancel my membership due to a move. When I called to cancel, I was told I had to either mail-in a membership cancellation request or I would have to go to the local gym. I walked into the local gym and spoke with someone about cancelling the membership, to which I was told he could take care of it. After giving him my acct info to him he made a phone call to someone who would do the actual cancelling and then told me I was "all set". I should have asked for a receipt or something in writing at least, but I didn't think of it. Five month's later, I was still being charged for the membership. Part of the blame is on me for not checking my CC information closely enough. After I call the local branch and speak with the operational manager he agrees to cancel my membership. I then call the customer service number to see about getting a refund on those last few months of charges. Customer service tells me there is nothing they can for a refund as there is no proof that I cancelled the membership. I haven't stepped foot in the gym since that day, and I think that after years and years of membership they could allow me this one courtesy of refunding these last 3-4 months of fees. So this review isn't necessarily about the Saugus location, even though they mishandled my original cancellation request. It is also about the poor customer service the corporate organization has as a whole. read more

The biggest problem I see at this gym is People walking naked in the locker room and sitting in the sauna naked and having their ass and ball sweat all over the place that's f.. disgusting they need to put a sign up in the sauna saying lay down a towel or don't fucking use it. This review is solely on the sales staff not the gym itself. (I actually like this gym.) So first off, I came in with my sister who was considering joining. She actually has a gym membership elsewhere. I told them I had a guest pass for her. Apparently they do not honor the 3 day guest pass or the VIP guest pass. What's the point of advertising this if you can't use it? So whatever, she opted to pay for the $15 day pass since we were already there. Instead, the sales woman kept pushing for her to join. She came up with every scenario possible and kept stating but "why not, just join, cmon just do it." She kept pressuring her to the point I wanted to tell her off. She didn't even offer to show her around or anything, which is the only thing she wanted before making any commitments. She left us with a really bad impression, we eventually just walked out. In my quest to find the right gym in this area, I've been here twice using a free week-long pass and felt compelled to write a review. I did use these reviews to try and help, but really, you just have to go and see for yourself. So, this place is a huge, commercialized fitness center. Its perks are it has a pool, a jacuzzi, a basketball court, bunch of racquetball courts, lots of equipment and lots of classes. I saw their Latin Heat class as I was waiting for yoga, and while there were a lot of people in there, there was actually enough room to move. Yoga was fine, but it just wasn't my type of yoga class/teacher. She was very basic. Those are the good things. On the other hand, I feel like I'm working out in a mall. It's a social hour for a lot of people. There are a lot of guys there who epitomize the word douchebag. I also saw Snookie's cousin there too. Having said that, there are people of all shapes, sizes and ages. There's really no need to feel out of place, because most of them are more worried about themselves than they are about you. But it's still annoying when all you want to do is go and work out and not have to deal with the stupid girls who are whispering during the end-relaxing portion of yoga. Anyway, if you don't mind using a facility like this to work out in, then this could be for you. But if you prefer a place that feels more like a gym, where everyone is there to work out and get sweaty, this might not be for you. read more

This place is big. And clean. The pool is great, the sauna is great. The machines and classes are great. The staff are not very friendly, but I think that is just because their bad fake tans make their faces stiff and its impossible to smile. There are tons of juicers to stare at :) and annoyingly hot girls to glare at. And still, this place is not just another meat factory type gym. You can tell that everyone is just serious about getting in shape!! Putting the commute aside, I give it 1 Thumb up! Cars being broken into was a problem during the summer, but that's probably because the gym is near RT 1 and in Saugus. The gym is very good value, I got in at $30 a month, it has good free weights, machines, pool, classes and spinning. The only thing that sucks is how pushy the trainers there are, to sell you into a training program, which would be fine if you could buy 3 or 4 classes at a time, but they try and sign you into a contract for a few months. So basically I don't ask for any help from their trainers because I don't want hear the sales pitch. read more
