This is our go-to favorite Mexican food place. The food is always phenomenal, we love that you can add the pulled beef to almost any item as an option and it has such a nice flavorful taste to it. The chips and salsa are wonderful, has a nice cilantro flavor and a decent kick that's not overwhelming but amazing. A bit of sweet, spicy and salty in one bite. Our favorite and go-to dish is the pollo à la crema. It's is silky, saucy, robust and delicious. The mushroom cream sauce is amazing and when mixed together with the rice and beans (black is my preference) it creates an awesome flavorful taste profile I've yet to find at another Mexican establishment. My wife and I just ordered it tonight for her birthday as she was craving it. The plantains are also amazing and my kids gobble them up. We also tried the queso with beef tonight and it was also exceptional. A nice sized portion and had a nice kick to it with fresh jalapeños mixed in. Everyone we come here we are always impressed and love the food. My last comment is the margaritas. I've become more picky about them as too much sour mix tends to give me reflux but I love them. Their margaritas are always bogo and always worth the cost. They are very flavorful and pack a decent punch without a heavy sour mix feel. One of the few places we trust to get margaritas from and get the added bonus of 2 for the price of 1! The staff and owner are always very accommodating and ensure the highest level of satisfaction. Anytime we come they treat us with a friendly smile, respect and are genuinely happy that you are there. It's great to have a local establishment such as this and we find ourselves duly grateful that it is in our own backyard here in lake park within golf cart, scooter, biking, etc. distance. read more

Today I was c for some Mexican food and by reading some of the reviews from google and Yelp and of course I was very close to the restaurant I decided to give it a try ... First time here,So as you walk in to the right is a small bar and to the left was the restaurant booths we were greeted and seated as we were walking towards our table straight ahead there are glass doors that led you to a full size bar attached to restaurant . The restaurant is very clean and music was playing Spanish. I order 3 taco lunch with beans and no rice only and salad with plantains and my husband order the same different kinds of tacos chicken and pork with rice and beans . As we sat down we did have Salas and chips at table and I also ordered a strawberry margarita. The chips and salsa was very good fresh ingredients. My margarita was too sweet for me . Our meal overall was good I didn't like the corn tortillas but the meat was tasty and my plantains were good . This was my first time back here in a while, even though I live within walking distance. Being that it's taco Tuesday I thought I'd give them another shot. My mistake. The salsa tastes like someone chopped up a tomato and an onion and added water. I ordered the triple combo platter. A taco, an enchilada and a Chalupa. Zero flavor, which was hard to believe being a Mexican restaurant. High point of my meal was the live music which aided in getting the food down. I ordered the churrasco steak, with beans and rice. Just okay in the flavor department as far as my steak. Over priced for the amount that came on my plate. This restaurant is getting expensive and serving less. My star ratings keep going down the more I come here. If I'm paying $26 for a steak, at least make it look like the picture on the menu. $9.50 for flan? I didn't order the flan. My check would have been over $40. BTW they are adding a surcharge on your check, so be sure to subtract that amount when you figure out the tip. read more

La Fogata is a clean and pleasant place with good service, the food however, is lacking. I today ordered a bean and cheese burrito, with Spanish rice and refried beans. The burrito was more like an enchilada, flat, and the cheese was missing, but there was a little cheese on top. The refried beans were runny and flavorless, the rice was also flavorless. I may go back and try some other dishes, but the lack of the proper use of spices concerns me, as other dishes may be just as bland and disappointing. read more

Been coming here for 20 years and it never lets us down. Dinner tonight was a surprise to our waitress: she has taken care of us many times over 9 years and she was shocked when my wife did not order her usual. Truly, once every few years she'll order something different than her usual flautas. We all laughed and talked about it. I tell you this because that is the type of place La Fogata is: they know their customers and always make you feel welcome. I had the Fajitas de Camarones and it was excellent. The flavors were great, the shrimp (camarones) were jumbo and perfectly prepared. The fajita pan came out steaming and sizzling like crazy; what a great presentation. Our son had something he had never tried, a quesadilla type of dish with braised beef and Mexican spices. He said it was delicious. And my wife tried an enchilada dish and was delighted with her choice change. La Fogata is our go-to Mexican place and simply our go-to when we are feeling lazy and don't want to cook! We're always welcomed and seated rapidly, then treated to a great meal. They've got a bar with live music every so often. It's closed off from the dining room with a glass door, but you can see the action over there and if you're so inclined, head over. Both the restaurant and bar are lively but not overwhelming. To us, it's always a great way to end a day with a great meal or sneak out for a nice lunch midday. FWIW, we were in for takeaway during covid probably once a week. So did many other locals and I'm glad we did. They're still going strong and I'm already looking forward to our next meal there. read more

Despite loving La Fogata for several years now they finally messed up my order. I ordered Pico De Gallo which normally comes with chips. Today I'm being told it never has by Manager Ed. Mind you I've received it consistently for over a year now. When the manager Ed came to the phone I asked his name and he immediately had a condescending tone. If no chips come with it what exactly are we supposed to eat the Pico De Gallo with?? Our hands. This was disappointing. He basically implied they were giving it to me in error. The bar is the happiest spot at this restaurant, and I recommend sitting there for good service. Melissa, one of the bartenders, is wonderful. The manager/owner Edwin is far too moody and has been downright rude to my table on more than one occasion. Avoid him. Also, for those who believe in Covid, no one wears a mask here, not even any of the servers. I have yet to be in any other restaurant where servers don't wear masks. I still say the two Margaritas for $11 are the best deal you'll find, and the Quesadillas and Fried Ice Cream rock. read more

So many of our friends suggested that we try La Fogata, I assumed that we'd be blown away. We were't impressed. It was pretty good, but nothing to write home about. There was plenty of good - the menu was broad and deep - food and drinks. Our margaritas were massive. (They were a bit watered down, but there was plenty of tequila.). The chips were plentiful and crisp. The salsa was tasty and rich, but not over-spiced. The guacamole was pleasant, but a bit under seasoned and bland. The fajitas had plenty of well cooked and reasonably seasoned chicken. However, the onions and peppers could have been cooked more; the peppers were still crunchy and tough. None of the onions were caramelized, and there were not enough of them. The beef flautas were better; the beef was tasty, perfectly cooked and tender. The fried shells were not over-done. So, they didn't have the consistency of a "shillelegh" like some other Mexican restaurants. Our best entree was the chili releleno. It was tasty with a perfect balance of cheese, pepper and breading. An interesting preparation. Rather than stuffing the pepper, La Fogata layers the ingredients on the plate; avoiding the possibility of an uneven fill. So, the preparation was tasty, but not quite authentic. The portions were large and the prices quite reasonable. Ultimately, we've had better, but we've also had much worse. read more

I've eaten here on a few occasions & could not continue to pass on reviewing this restaurant any longer. The service here on every visit has always been prompt, friendly & attentive. My usual order includes a house margarita & the ground beef Dos Tacos lunch or dinner combination. The combinations include your entree of choice with rice & refried or black beans. The main dining room in the restaurant was pretty packed on this Sunday night so we sat at the back bar. Tonight I switched it up & ordered a Strawberry margarita on the rocks. My boyfriend ordered the Guava margarita & fell in love with the taste after the first sip. My drink tasted great, sweet while not packing much of a punch. I attribute that to the margaritas being pre-made with your flavor of choice being added & shaken. Kudos to the bartender however on her service, I did not catch her name but she was fantastic. We also indulged in a few chilled patron shots while we waited on our food. The shots were reasonably priced & a good size. As an appetizer we ordered a blanco beef queso dip. The dip wasn't thick in consistency, however very flavorful. The ground beef and veggies inside the dip were hearty as well. Shortly after my tacos arrived. My two hard shell ground beef tacos were stuffed with lettuce & cheese (I opt out of the tomatoes) & I requested a side of sour cream (the side of sour cream is large enough to serve a party of 3/4 lol, so one for the table is generally enough). Not only were my tacos tasty but the rice & black beans were equally my favorite part of my meal. I would return to this restaurant to explore the other menu options. The service is awful, even when there are very few people in the restaurant, it's just poor service. The salsa is store bought garbage, the chips are stale. The main courses are, meh, they're ok, except they're far overpriced, much better Mexican food for less money around the area. Our dessert was the Churros, which took over 15 minutes to get and only after we kept looking at the waitress to get her attention, but it was clear she ran back to the kitchen to order them and, what a surprise, they were raw in the center. The ice cream was poor quality too, it's like the store bought crap you get in the 1.5 gallon tubs, major disappointment across the board. I wanted to give it two stars but I simply cannot, for the prices you'll pay here you can find other Mexican restaurants of better quality and significantly better service. read more

We had never eaten here before, but I had read many encouraging reviews. Since they do not have any outdoor seating we ordered to take out. We ordered 2 entrees, chicken fajitas and my husband ordered the 3 enchilada special. i asked for them to substitute the rice and beans for a salad for my fajitas dish. The salad was beautiful, covered with Avocado ! Very nice portion, enough for two. The salad either had no or very little dressing on it. My fajitas were plentiful and delicious but however where missing the sour cream, guacamole and one more thing, I forget what that should have been. Perhaps when I substituted the rice and beans for the salad there might have been confusion. We finished off with Flan. Great meal, we will definitely order again and look forward to eating in their dining room. read more

I've been to this place quite a few times now and it's definitely become one of our gotos during quarantining. We are trying to only treat ourselves once a week to takeout. I was recommended this restaurant by a friend, however I was not impressed at all. Be prepared because the servers don't know how to speak English. Actually, they were kind of rude. The tortilla chips were ok . The sauce taste like rago sauce that you buy from publix. I had the chicken quesadilla it comes fried beans and yellow rice. The best thing from the whole plate was the fried beans. The yellow rice lack taste and chicken quesadilla well let's put to you this way I rather go to taco bell. It was a bit pricey. We had three different servers throughout our time and were not given plates for the chips salsa and queso. We also were not checked on and instead the employees were busy having conversation.
