Stopped in La Fonda Lopez last Thursday evening, my parents live here in Twisp so they treat me whenever I am visiting. I ordered the Chicken Mole, its not on the main menu, and since it was a special on this night I had to try it. The mole was thick and rich but not real sweet and the chicken was fall of the bone tender. Very happy with it. My mom got the Clam chowder with spinach and leeks, (she was worried about the spinach being in it) but she loves clam chowder so she couldn't pass it up, this was also on the special menu. Great service, tasty food with something for everyone - vegetarian, low carb, and picky kids. Accessible and friendly for grandparents with walkers and canes (I think wheelchairs would be fine too). This tiny little restaurant is hiding big flavor! La Fonda Lopez is an amazing place to find fresh, delicious and well made Mexican food. The menu boasts pasta and burgers as well, but I would say the feel of the place is a little more true to its Mexican style dishes. The service was friendly and well timed. The ambience is kind of small town friendly. Maybe it's because the tables are a little closer together than is usual, but you get a feeling of community, like everyone is a regular. It was nice. I had the fajita tacos, and they were awesome. The vegetables were cooked in a garlic, ginger, onion-y tasting marinade that made me feel less locked away in the fast food and pizza island that is Okanogan County. I can't even begin to describe how happy it made me to eat well made and fresh food. I will be making the trip to Twisp more often to get a taste of something worth tasting. Great job! read more

We decided to give this a try after a day of sightseeing. The restaurant is very quaint, it was busy but not loud or irritating, for starters was the chips and homemade salsa, very good both, I decided to try the beef tacos I got 4 tacos and they were awesome. The beef was in chunks and melted in your mouth, avocado slices adorned each taco 1 I ate 3.5 tacos the beans were also delicious they are whole pintos and cooked just right. the rice was perfect also I will be back. My love had the chicken fajitas hey we're awesome. Plenty of food the chicken was seasoned with a hint of cumin we believe that gave them a unique flavor. Anyway we left full and content. The gem of Twisp. There's nothing like stumbling upon a tasty Mexican dive after a dayhike, and this place fit the bill for us. The cook/owner is from Oaxaca, but knows the standard Cal-Mex style as well as novelties like the seafood paella which was the special during our visit (and was tasty too). Guacamole was the real deal, and we ordered seconds. Shrimp fajitas had some cinnamon and cumin spicing and were surprisingly fresh for being so far inland. A satisfying find. read more

Watch out for plastic! We came here based on a locals recommendation. Ate early since we just got into town for dinner with our 2 kids and there was only one other couple in the restaurant. I ordered the chicken enchiladas which were edible but nothing to write home about, my husband had nachos which came out burnt from the broiler and our kids each got an enchilada. My older daughter pulled a piece of plastic out of her mouth as she was chewing. It definitely came from her plate of food but when my husband brought it to the woman at the front she denied that it was even possible. He also said he didn't think we should have to pay for just her meal since she was only half way through. The woman refused. He paid and we just left. Super frustrating dining experience and lackluster food. Won't return. read more

We were disappointed with our trip to La Fonda López. First, the service was sub par. It is possible that the serving was new, having never been here before it's hard to judge. The server seamed to become quickly overwhelmed even though for the majority of our experience there was only about three tables occupied. The server forgot about half of the things we requested. Example being, we asked for an extra plate, more napkins, and water refills and on the next trip back he would refill the water but not brings anything else until we asked again. We were overcharged for a kids meal, we ordered the 4.99 butter noodles with a side of The fettuccini sauce for it and we charged 4.99 for "butter noodles" plus 6.99 for "cheesy noodles" to make it a 12.00 kids meal. We had to debate this with the server, who was also the cashier, and then debate it again with the cook, who after much debate, realized that that probably wasn't right and the server change it. Full disclosure, they did eventually make it right so I'm not docking their review solely on that experience. The food was hit and miss. We thought the salsa was above average for what we had and enjoyed it. The nachos were also average and we would probably order them again. My daughters kids meal had a bun on it that was extremely burnt, honestly, this irritated me. One of my first jobs was working at a burger resturant (a big one with a bird for a mascot) and I have literally seen kids cry with disappointment when their bun is burnt. If you know something isnt right, just fix it, don't try and pull one over on a child. The good: The fajitas had an awesome marinade on them and were probably the highlight of the meal. The fettuccini sauce that they put on the side for my daughters buttered noodles was excellent; it was thick, cheesy and had nice depth of flavor. Overall, this place is reviewed high so we may have had a one off, or they are getting sloppy with service and details. I hope owners and managers take note, great reviews and experiences can add significantly to your traffic, however our review isn't one of them. read more

My husband and I shared the prawn tostada, and I have to say, it was the best I've ever had! Tortilla chips and salsa were homemade and delicious as well as the side sauces and rice. Seven of us stopped in for dinner while camping nearby. The food was reasonably good but the house margaritas were terrible (definitely from a mix and way too sweet to enjoy). Nice people and great food. Homemade smoky pinto beans topped with cojita cheese, fresh tomatillo salsa, grilled jalapeños and excellent guacamole. My parter had the pesto pasta (the restaurant serves both Mexican and Italian dishes) and enjoyed it thoroughly. Portions were big, about what you need after a big snowshoe or ski day in the Methow. What a great Mexican restaurant in Twisp! Everyone in my party found their dish excellent. I had the pork en salsa verde. It had a very tasty tomatillo and corn sauce, pork was tender, and the beans and rice were delicious. Others had vegetarian burrito, child rellano, and tamales. Everyone had lots of good things to say about their food. I had a nice cold IPA bottle to go with my meal. Not fancy but just good food in good portion. You will not leave hungry! We ate here on Monday and it is really really good. We had the special which is prawns and blackened Mahi Mahi. The Mahi Mahi melted in your mouth. The guy knew exactly how to cook it. The sauce was a rich light chili. The plate had black beans on the side and rice. This is the place to go. They were quick and it is not your normal Mexican restaurant and the food was great. We were in the area between Christmas and New Year's 2015. Not a lot of moderate priced eateries in the area. It was good enough for us to go back for a second night. We ordered fajitas, fish tacos, steak, it was all good. We really appreciated the large dinner salad with fresh greens- large enough so that the three of us could each have a serving and they were happy to supply three plates. The serving size is just right for a hungry skier without being a really heavy meal. Good food, good service. I found it a little chilly inside, but the outside temperatures were 12 degrees F, so unless you hit that kind of weather, it should be fine. read more

My wife and I dined at La Fonda Lopez, in late August 2017, during a stay in Twisp. I was surprised to see pasta on the menu of this family owned and operated, seemingly Mexican restaurant. The owner told me that the restaurant's location necessitated menu diversity, when I asked why there were so many pasta options.The Olive Oil Garlic Linguini with vegetables was made with fresh pasta, and it was delicious! The service was excellent, and the laid back ambiance of the place helped to make my wife's and my dinner very enjoyable. The dinner was a very good value. I would eat here again. read more

Very good food! Service is fast and friendly. One of the best places to eat in the Methow Valley. Wish there was more seating (cant really accommodate a large party) and wish they had a liquor license so we could get margaritas! Daily specials are very yummy! Kids menu is lacking. Definitely the best Mexican food in the Methow Valley--simple but delicious and beautifully presented. The menu also includes dishes from other locales such as curries. The daily specials are well priced and always good. My favorite dish off the regular menu is the tequila lime tostada but everything I've had has been great. It's the kind of restaurant where you can eat often and be happy each time. In a town like Twisp with so few restaurants it's been a real blessing to have the wonderful Lopez family open this one. read more

Our favorite restaurant in Twisp, and definitely among the best Mexican restaurants I've been to. They don't do anything fancy, but the basic stuff is wonderful (tacos, burritos, tostadas, quesadillas) and the salsa is always good. The vegetarian options have a good assortment of veggies (not just onions and green peppers), and the non-Mexican dishes are also good. I just wish they had flan and horchata for my sweet tooth. read more

We discovered this place on a Tuesday evening when a lot of other places are closed. Glad we did. Enjoyed something different. Most of the menu is Mexican food and then a mix if Italian? We stuck with what we knew with beef soft tacos. Was very good! Will definitely come here again and try more things on the menu. I regret not going for the tamales as bet they were good. My only complaint is our bill turned out high just because we added on margaritas and some sour cream and couple orders of guacamole. The margaritas were very weak, if not even made with any alcohol. Next time will stick with beer or just iced tea. Don't expect anything fancy. This place will look and feel like a dive. Very old rustic diner. But is good! read more

An amazing little restaurant with fresh ingredients, and a different daily special every day. The cook is a artist with food. We stopped with my Mother in law. The server handled her picky Burrito order with ease, and as per our usual my wife and I ordered the special. Today's was a Pork Enchilada. Only a four star today, as the fresh enchilada sauce "was missing something." Four stars in unusual for this Five Star Restaurant. Try it, you just might see us there enjoying the Daily Special!
