Amazing meal with the family (and dog)! We sat outside and enjoyed the sun... Yummy margaritas, tacos al pastor, tamales, and enchiladas. I don't even like pinto beans, but I like theirs and ate them all. Also, the portions were perfect so we all left with full stomachs but weren't totally stuffed. This being a restaurant in a really small town, I know not to expect much. Service was really slow. Came in before 7.15, didnt get our food until almost 8. Salsa was delicious but not enough chips and no refills since nobody came by to check on anything. We ordered nachos, fried fish tacos (about $15) and al pastor tacos (about $13). The tacos comes with rice and pinto beans. Nachos was actually excellent. But they let it sit after being done before delivering to our table so by the time it got to our table the cheese already resetting/hard again. But there were a decent amount of beans and steak in there. Fish tacos were excellent. High recommend to order this! The fish were crispy. Mango salsa on point. Definitely ask for more salsa because together they make such good party in your mouth. The Al pastor taste more like chinese char siu (bbq pork) if you ask me. A bit too dry for my liking. It's ok I guess. I've had better ones. Ice tea is $2, not sure if it's free refill or not but once it was free and then it was charged as extra. Waiter did not check our table until food is almost gone. Note: The restaurant also sells non Mexican food if you dont feel like it. La Fonda Lopez is a decent Mexican family restaurant in downtown Twisp. In business for 6 months now, La Fonda offers a nice alternative to the other dining places in Twisp, especially when there are long waits at the Twisp River Pub. Definitely a mom and pop shop (maybe with junior helping out too), the food was good and they are creative on putting a spin on traditional dishes, for example their 'parmesan' rice. I had a delicious surf and turf (I know, it's a Mexican restaurant but I wanted steak). The steak was well seasoned rib eye and not tough at all and 6 large prawn cooked perfectly with a side of mixed veggies of broccoli and carrots. The parmesan rice was interesting, I'm not a big fan of rice, but I think a lot of people will like it. The only negative and I'm sure they're working on it, is that there's a lot of remodeling to be done. The windows are very drafty and the door doesn't stay closed. This place has a smaller selection but the flavors were truly worthy of a 5 stars. Just in case you have someone in your party that doesn't like Mexican food, they can choose from a traditional menu with items like burgers. La Fonda Lopez is a great addition to the Methow Valley dining scene, and should be your next stop for lunch or dinner when in the area! The menu variety is at first confusing (faijtas, hamburgers and linguini?) but, don't worry, it just means there is something for everyone. On our first trip we tried the Tequila Lime Prawn Tostada and the Chicken Mole, both of which were flavorful, extremely filling, and artfully presented. After being more than satisfied with our meals (and reading the reviews of the parm rice), I can't wait to go back and try their other options. This is literally a mom-and-pop operation, which means you might wait a little longer as the owner is also the chef and is cooking each plate just for you. However, it is well worth the wait, and I encourage you to try it instead of just heading to the Twisp River Pub like usual, you'll be glad you did! read more

It features a unique menu of Mexican and Italian dishes in a small but intimate space. They have seating inside and on a small front patio. The service is prompt with a dish of salsa and nachos delivered soon after being seated. The menu has a wide variety of dishes and there should be something for everyone. The waiter was friendly and gave you the impression they could meet any request. Everything was "no problem". The food was delicious and the prices are very reasonable. The patio seating may be a bit loud as there are several trucks on the main road Hwy 20 so if you want a quieter experience, indoor seating may be a better choice. Across from the chevron station and next to the twisp river pub, you might not notice the little house on the corner. But you should stop and enjoy the food. With just ten tables, it's full house at most dinner times here, but you won't have to wait long. I had a pork burrito and my wife had the tequila lime shrimp. Portions are ample. The burrito had lots of pork, and wasn't drowning in sauce like so many places feel they have to do. The salsa is spicy and smoky; I recommend it for a topping. They Also serve a few Italian dishes for those who don't want Mexican or want some variety. Beer list is small but fine. The Alaskan Amber goes well with the food. Service is also very good. The woman at the Winthrop Tourist office said: "Want great food? Go to La Fonda Lopez in Twisp." It was lunch time, on a Monday, which can be dicey, because head chefs are often off, but it was only a 20 minute drive, and what the heck we were on vacation! Everything, from the waiters to the menu to the delicious smell of food shouted out Authentic! This has to become a destination spot! We made a second trip to Twisp from Winthrop ON THE SAME DAY in order to have another meal-dinner-and another ice cold Corona served in a frosty cold glass, and believe me, if we lived in Twisp I'd be there weekly. (I'm a trained chef and have lived in Mexico; I love well prepared Mexican food, and I know what I'm talking about!) Trips to the Methow Valley will be more frequent now! I'm sorry I didn't take a photo of the Tequila Shrimp Tostada. A culinary work of art in presentation and flavor. Six or more jumbo shrimp cooked to perfection, pinto beans and rice +++++ homemade green tomatillo sauce on one side of the plate, and a red sauce on the other, with guacamole, crema and cilantro garnishing the top. 5 stars for plate presentation. 5 stars for unique, regional, and balanced seasoning. 5 stars for portion size. When we returned for dinner, we ordered the special: Chicken Enchiladas Verdes. While we waited and wet our appetite with the freshly made totopo chips and delicious salsa, I noted that the mood was upbeat and people were laughing, and as we were next to the hostess desk where people came and went, each party made eye contact with me, smiling, speechlessly trying to say "You're going to enjoy this!" There was a definite sense of ownership...everyone wanted to share in the success of the place. I overheard someone say La Fonda was moving across the street...I bet! They are working magic here! I have been here twice, once with my friends and the other with my girlfriend, all of the dishes different each time, and all of us were extremely satisfied. So baffled by the great reviews. menu is all over the place - Asian, italian, mexican. my motto is, when you see that, run. we didn't and I wish we had. we ordered two shrimp dishes - a tequila lime tostada and a shrimp burrito. there was absolutely nothing tequila like about the burrito. and there was nothing fajita about the massive shrimp burrito, which consisted mostly of rice and beans. chips tasted store bought. server was super nice and friendly and efficient. zero ambience here. would not return. my first clue should have been the lack of anyone else in the restaurant. read more

I spent a week in the Methow valley and surrounding area and tried four or five different Mexican restaurants. La Fonda Lopez was the best by far! Beef tacos were simply out of this world. It's really chunks of grilled beef that are exploding with flavor. Paired with a home-made hotsauce that was the perfect balance of heat and flavor, and you've got a meal I'm still salivating over days later. My compatriots had the steak ("perfectly cooked, thin with a little pink and falling apart tender") and the cheeseburger, which was surprisingly good for a mostly-traditional Mexican restaurant. The place has only been open a couple months, and I'm sure word will spread quick amongst the locals; definitely worth a stop if you're traveling through. read more
