We had a reservation at 8:30 on a Saturday night, we arrived 50min early to see if we could be seated earlier, which they were able to do. I had no clue there was a downstairs, it was so cool down there! Huge bar, darker, you can see into the kitchen, a great lay-out. Drinks were great, I got the pumpkin espresso martini. My husband and I went here on a Saturday night at 8 o'clock. It has a lively and fun atmosphere. We were seated at a high top table near the bar. After waiting for over 15 minutes for someone to come, take our drink order my husband finally walked over to a few staff members and asked if anyone was servicing our table. It seems as though two different staff members each thought the other one was servicing our table, and they apologized for the oversight. Shortly after they took our drink order, a manager came over to the table with a complementary app and offered a round of drinks on the house. We definitely didn't expect this, but it was a very nice gesture. The appetizer she brought over was a twisty bread and it's something we never would've normally ordered, but it was fantastic. I had a spicy watermelon margarita and it was so good! I definitely recommend trying it. For my meal, I ordered the tuna poke bowl, which is very good. All in all I would say it was a good night. The drinks were good, the food was good. It was a lively and fun atmosphere and they were able to turn the service around. We'll likely return again. read more

I usually just come here for drinks (I love their spicy watermelon marg) but it was a busy night in Newport and we decided to stop here to grab some food. Servers were great and friendly. We ordered the crispy green beans which were good. I got the fish tacos which were lack luster, the fish was kind of cold and the breading was a bit soggy like they had been sitting a bit. My friend got the chicken salad and loved it but that's her go to when she goes here. Getting food also took a lot longer than we expected as we sat outside and it didn't appear super busy. One of the most underrated places in Newport; it's one of our favorites! Really fun and inviting tiki hut vibe outside- you can sit at the low/high tops or at the bar (or inside the restaurant, but totally different atmosphere). Plenty of shade outside, whether it's at the bar or a table. We always sit at the bar, so service is always prompt and available. Mixed drinks here are delicious, and they also offer a solid variety of seltzers and beer. The food at Surf Club is amazing!!! I was not a fan of the "breakfast/brunch" menu, but the lunch/dinner menu is great!! We've tried the meatballs, twisty bread, prosciutto and arugula pizza, chicken bacon ranch pizza, and pizza blanco (white pizza). The chicken bacon ranch pizza is the best of the pizzas, and the twisty bread with the tomato fondue is my absolute favorite. (Tip: if you don't get the twisty bread, ask for a side of the tomato fondue and use it to dip your pizza crust in it.) Meatballs are pretty solid as well. We will obviously be back each and every time we visit Newport!! Oh AND, they're dog-friendly (they even have a dog menu)! read more

If you're searching for a weekend brunch, Surf Club has it! Along with some brunchish mixed beverages, the brunch menu is small but unique. If you'd rather have a lunch/ dinner meal, the menu has a variety and you're sure to find something that meets your palate's expectations. I had a chopped salad with salmon and it had just the right amount of balsamic vinegarette on it. Not noted on the main menu (and no separate menu given either), there are kid's options. Ours ordered the Mac n cheese and the other chicken tenders with fries. Both enjoyed their meals- especially the mac n cheese!! Choosing to order brunch, my husband had the Benedict, and it was "tasty" as he put it. Just like the menu, the restaurant itself is unique and has total New England vibes (rightfully so)! You enter into a small door on the side of the building and the restaurant is actually downstairs. The architecture and decor are super fitting and give the restaurant a great ambiance. I went to the Surf Club for the first time a couple of weeks ago with my daughter. She was visiting from NYC and I wanted to try something different for lunch. We went downstairs and sat at the bar. The inside of the restaurant is really well laid out. It was nicely decorated and very inviting. The bartender was cheerful and made great suggestions regarding cocktails. Both of us tried the gin fizz and then tried it again...LOL. It was an amazing drink. I had the tuna poke bowl and it was fantastic. Tuna was seared perfectly and the other ingredients were super fresh and tasty. It is a great dish. My daughter had a salad that she enjoyed immensely. Prices were reasonable for what you got. I ordered the blackened salmon blt. It tasted pretty good! The sandwich and piece of salmon on my sandwich was quite small though. I also got the cucumber lavender drink which had cucumber vodka, lavender syrup and lemonade. I really liked that drink! Our server took a good 45 minutes to take our orders which was pretty disappointing. Then he never came back. We had to chase him down to get water and then we had to get up and go find him to get the check. I never mind having to wait for things while dining in a restaurant, I understand servers are busy but this night wasn't even that packed. And the amount of time was very absurd.
