Came here with a work group and were seated up on the second floor. I got the scallops dinner plate and was very glad I did! There were a good number of scallops done just right served with spinach and rice, so I got my veggies in too! Several of the other people in the group were a bit less impressed with their food. The service was at best alright. I'm not sure if it was because we were a big group and I believe (though don't have the receipt in front of me) that gratuity was already included but it was rather a challenge to get the attention of anyone for drink refills and such. Even though there were multiple floors it didn't seem that busy. That said it was good for the group, they didn't have much trouble accommodating us and there is a very large menu. We were fortunate to snag a table by the front window, it was perfect. The windows were wide open letting the breeze to flow nicely in as we watched the people walk by, it was very relaxing. This place has the greatest cocktail menu I have ever seen. I wanted to have them all. I chose the chocolate monkey and it was fabulous. Could drink these all day it was like a grownup milkshake My husband and I are not big eaters so we shared the crab cakes, they were a little spicy but loaded with crabmeat. Then I had the lobster salad which was a nice mound of fancy greens surrounded with a good portion of strawberries oranges and avocados topped with a generous portion of lobster salad. Food/Drinks: This place is my favorite restaurant to eat at in Newport. They have such a variety of items to choose from on their menu, and I have yet to have something that I don't like. I am obsessed with the calamari pizza, and I don't think any other restaurant offers this. It's delicious, crunchy, and tasty. The loaded lobster nachos are to die for, and although I didn't include a picture, their coconut shrimp is also one of my favorite items on the menu. Food-wise, this place does it for me every single time, and their portions are shareable. Now, the drinks. Usually, a place will be great with food and lack with their alcoholic drink options..not this one. Their martinis are delicious and strong. Their margaritas are also just as strong and all worth the price. They have a variety of other drinks, and so far, every drink I've gotten has been delicious. Location: This location is in the heart of Newport. It's pretty casual; most people dress either business casual or casual, very popular, mainly in the summer. This location has lots of seating and is first come, first serve. It's perfect for any type of occasion or just to grab a meal with family and friends. The only downside of this location is the parking, as it does not offer valet or private parking. However, knowing the area, you can usually find street parking close by with a little walk. You won't have an issue finding a spot except on those crazy summer days when there's an event in Newport. Service: Service has always been great. I have not had any bad servers as of yet, and all my in person experiences have been positive. I will not take stars for this, but I must say that I have tried calling in to do takeout, and during certain seasons, they do not do takeout at all, even on weekdays when it's a bit slower. Although the servers in person are pretty nice, I have gotten rude servers over the phone. I won't take any stars away because, in general, I really do like this location. Stopped in from the cold to rest from lots of walking. We went to the 2nd floor bar because the 1st floor was full. We tried the Siamese Chicken Wings, and were very pleasantly surprised. Fried crispy very large chicken wings (I'm not usually a fan of the extra large wings, but these were cooked crispy so NO flappy soft chicken skin- yay!) The sauce was sweet and they were completely covered in sesame seeds...so much so that me and friend kept telling each other that we had sesame seeds stuck to our lips...very sticky. We couldn't finish the generous portion so we took the rest back to our hotel and ate them late night...and they were even good cold...like cold fried chicken. Highly recommend. The old fashion cocktail I ordered was below average...regular maraschino cherry, cubed ice, a little disappointed by the drink given the quality of the chicken wings. One throwback bit of ambience that I did enjoy, and that fit right in to the ambiance was the bar TVs were showing the "fireplace channel"...oddly it did make it feel more cozy. read more

This restaurant is a staple of Newport for many reasons. They're known for their large menu, but also for their exceptional culinary achievements. People sometimes say that if a restaurant's menu is too big, the food might not be good, but this place defies that line of thought. Beautiful ambience, dutiful waitstaff and amazing food are in store for you if you come here. This time I started out with their shrimp and scallop scampi. Seafood was all high quality and excellently cooked. The sauce has changed since I've been here last; very heavy on the wine flavor and less garlicky. Also, they're heavy handed with the butter, but you can't taste it right away because the strong wine flavor masks it. It's very delicious, but keep in mind that the amount of butter may weigh heavy on your stomach. Later on I got the Rasta Pasta, which is one of their more popular dishes and it's easy to see why. Absolutely amazingly balanced and delicious. Chicken and shrimp were great, sun dried tomatoes made the dish very savory, the cheese sauce was bold and flavorful without being too heavy. The bell peppers made the dish taste almost like pizza in pasta form. Even with all the bold flavors, this dish was surprisingly light on my stomach in comparison to the scampi. I thoroughly enjoyed this. Consistently high quality food from people who definitely know their way around a kitchen. This establishment is one of the kings of Newport for great eating. The Clam Chowder was good and the Libster Bisque was dismal at best (I can get better in STL) but the Fish and Chips were bland and had absolutely No Flavor. Prices were a bit steep as well. This was my last chance to have seafood before heading north and I'm glad we came to Red Parrot. Menu said the fish in the Fish and Chips was locally caught. It tasted fresh and was not breaded too heavily. It was served over a bed of fries, wait too many for me to finish. Though the cool dish at the table was the Calamari Pizza. It is a combo I don't think anybody knew we needed, expect for Rhode Islanders. I ate a few calamari off the pizza and it was the best calamari I think I've had because of how it was spiced. I would gladly return to Rhode Island for this culinary creation. Also at our table was the Clam Chowder and the Berry and Goat Cheese Salad. Both were also very good! The drinks were so good, I'd go back for those alone. The ambiance is what you'd expect for a place on Thames St. Our server was friendly and attentive. The only thing that kept me from giving this a higher rating is the fact that one person in our party cannot eat seafood due to allergies. There were very few options for folks who don't eat seafood. I also wasn't super hungry but they have basically no small plates. I asked the server for recommendations and he gave me two: ahi tuna and swordfish. I ended up ordering the swordfish and only ate about half of it. The asparagus also had no flavor. The portions were huge and I appreciated that, but it was too much for me. I'd go back for the drinks and maybe to split a plate with someone. I felt bad wasting half my plate. Also, minus a star because they charge 3% for credit cards. It's a cost of doing business and they can either absorb the cost or raise their prices by 3% to account for the credit card fee. Their menu was extensive which made it so hard to choose from. I got the shrimp and scallop scampi and the lobster and seafood Alfredo. The Strawberry Balsamic dressing alone is something I look forward to, so I always get a side salad. We stared our meal with the Thai Spring rolls, which were ok but nothing special. Honestly tasted like any frozen spring roll you would buy. Then we ordered the Calamari Caesar Salad and the Mussel Soup. The salad was a large portion with crispy calamari. The Mussel soup was a very generous portion of mussels, clams and shrimp in a tomato broth. This was very flavorful and had a ton of seafood. The restaurant is large as is the menu, but it is a Newport staple. I would recommend trying this on your next trip. read more

Four of us went to the Red Parrot for dinner last night. It wasn't my first visit, and as usual, it didn't disappoint! The service was good despite the food coming out slow, but they kept checking in and let us know it was on its way. The food is just excellent. We started with the lobster quesadillas as an app and it was really loaded up with meat, the clam chowder was also a big hit. I had a blackened salmon on top of a mixed green salad that was one of the best prepared pieces of fish I've had in quite awhile! My husband had the mussels in white wine pasta dish, also a 10. Pictures of these two dishes attached. The other two orders at our table were lobster tacos and the tuna bowl, both were prepared fabulously. We really wanted to love this place after hearing such great reviews. Unfortunately, service was extremely slow, which didn't bother us because we understand being understaffed. Sadly though, our waiter just kind of abandoned us. We ended up giving back one of our dishes because it was not good. Thankfully they took it off the bill because it wasn't hardly eaten. The pizza we got was about a 3.5/5. Maybe we just ordered the wrong thing, because people seem to absolutely rave about this place. Will love to give them another chance on our next visit. While in Newport we were looking for a place near the water to eat. While this restaurant didn't have as great a view as we hoped, we still enjoyed our time and meal. We came in early April, so it wasn't too busy yet, but the restaurant has three floors to accommodate guests. Our server did an excellent job and we were very satisfied with service. I had the fish and chips and it was delicious. It came with so much food I was able to take some home to enjoy later. My aunt got the clam chowder and couldn't stop talking about how creamy it was. This restaurant stood out because it came up as a really popular and more budget friendly option in our search online. we came around 3pm and were immediately seated on the second floor. the restaurant is three floors and it was pretty full so we were looking forward to a great experience. the wait staff was friendly and attentive however unfortunately the food was very subpar. i ordered the shrimp and scallop scampi and it was extremely bland- the scallops and shrimps were not seasoned whatsoever and the sauce was also very bland- i had to add extra salt to it to try to add some semblance of flavor profile. you can see in the photo i included that the shrimps and scallops look as though they were boiled and not seasoned at all. my friends who ordered the coconut shrimp wrap and lobster roll were also very disappointed with their meals, saying they were very dry and also unseasoned. my friend who ordered the mussels and clams said the seafood didn't taste very fresh. the lobster bisque was very lacking in actual lobster. the calamari was probably the best thing we had- it was your average fried calamari but compared to the other dishes, it was well seasoned. we were really looking forward to this meal during our visit so it's really unfortunate that it ended up being a subpar experience. read more
